Hi everyone, I'm wondering if there's an app that will let me key in and send my text message from Gear. I'm not using any custom ROM but I have already sideloaded a QWERTY keyboard. Can you also suggest a 3x4 keyboard (the one used on older phones) because QWERTY just haviny keys for typing. I hope you can help me, thanks!

I've been trying that for the past half hour. I can't get Tablet Talk to install from my Gear (says not compatible) and I've tried a couple of the Dark Horse versions and there's nothing to open. After I install it, the only option I have is to unistall it.
Is it working on yours?

I finally got tablet talk working. The problem was that I couldn't scroll down on the screen on my Gear to select the phone. So I set up the Gear as the phone and the phone as a tab and connected them. Then changed both back to what they really are. Working great now! Whoo hoo! I can text from my Gear and get alerts now!

Are you running into any battery drain issues? Cuz I had TT working fine but my batter life was from hell.

Not yet. I actually just set up a live wallpaper because I still had 40% battery after using it all day and I wanted to drain it down more before I put it on the charger.

TT shouldn't drain battery. Didn't notice a difference except for more screen on time when I'm reading and replying to texts

Will this work on null custom Rom and with out internet out data on the gear?
It should because you are simply communicating directly with the phone.

How do you text from you gear exactly? I have never used tablet talk but I'm looking into getting it, does it have a built in messaging app you can use to receive and type up messages from the gear? Also, can I still use the stock messaging up on my phone along with whatever is running on the gear?

It's not easy to text more than a couple words since the keyboard covers the screen. You can still text on your phone.

I am currently running Stock ROM with a pushed APK of tablet talk and Google Keyboard. For me, the Google keyboard doesn't cover the whole screen and I am able to see about the first 4-5 words, which works great for me. I am also happy that I can view Photo and Video MMS directly on the watch with Tablet Talk.

You must have tablet talk installed on both devices so that they are able to communicate with each other via bluetooth.
How to install:
- Download/purchase the app on your phone
- Copy the .apk file from /data/app on your phone to your gear (via bluetooth or computer transfer)
- install the app on your gear
- [IMPORTANT] Set up your gear as a phone and phone as a tablet. This makes the two pair properly. Otherwise you can't pair them due to the tiny gear screen
- In settings, switch the phone to phone and the gear to tablet.
- Install a keyboard if you don't already have one.
- Note - you must be bluetooth tethered from your phone to receive internet connection for this to work
- Enjoy
After about 3 days of trial and error, this is the only way I could find to set the 2 up properly. I hope this helps others.

It seems texting directly from the Gear is something to be used sparingly. On a normal work day (w/o TT) I would come home and the Gear would be at 81%. My first day of using TT and texting from my Gear exclusively, I hit 50% in 4 hours.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me with this or point me in the right direction.
I use handcent, but it is becoming bloated and I would much rather use the stock app. My only problem with, and what keeps me from using the stock app (GB or froyo) is that the only keyboard it calls on is the stupid crap with the smiley face button instead of the return key. Handcent allows you to choose which keyboard it calls for.
I don't know if one would need to modify the app to have it call on another keyboard module, or if one would need to delete the Smiley face module from the keyboard library and replace it with a copy of the return key module, eliminating the smiley face crap altogether.
I don't know much about programming or the inner workings of android so I need your help! If someone wants to help me tackle this, show me where it has already been done, or point me in the right direction so I can figure it out myself I would be greatly appreciative!

Which rom are you running?
Attach a copy of the mms.apk (/system/app/mms.apk) from your rom, and I'll edit it for you so that you have return key instead of the 'stupid' key haha.
...sidenote: I really need to get some free time to completely set up my computer so I can submit things to CM...first thing I'm going submit is an "action key" selection for the stock MMS app.
Which looks something like this *hint hint* ->

Well, if your texts were still managed by the standard mms.apk app I could've just attached the edited apk
That way you could push it to your /system/app directory and the smiley key would be non-existent..but now that it's being handled by GV, I'm not too sure I'll be able to edit it for you. Ill check it out either tonight for ya or tomorrow after work

I'm feeling the same way about the group of people over there.
eh, I lied. I won't be able to get to the computer with CyanogenMod synced to it for at least a day, maybe longer. So you might have to wait till the weekend for the edited Mms.apk
BUT I did manage to edit Google Voice to get rid of that key
I haven't really had time to mess with it so if you get some FCs let me know. I haven't received any yet, only thing I noticed was when I signed in the loading circle image was really distorted.
I just signed the app with testkeys so a regular install will work

Hey, haven't seen this mentioned yet, but ScreenShare works for our phones and gear so we can have a full Web browser on our watches.
Here is what I did.
Installed ScreenShare on my Note 3.(No need for pro)
Used Wondershare MobileGo to install the -tablet- version of ScreenShare on the Gear.
Launch them both and change the connection type to Bluetooth.
If you are already paired between you phone and watch then they will appear under Paired devices and you just need to select the phone from the Gear.
If you are not paired, say you don't have a Note 3, there is a Setup Wizard option built in which will find your devices and set it all up for you.
After all the connections are done, just run the browser and it will open on both your phone and Gear, but from here on you don't even need the phone screen on and it won't sync screens until you press a designated button to do so.
Sometimes, it will mess up using the browser button saying you have no service, to get around this (every time in my testing) use the Help button, then go to the FAQs. The browser will open to the apps website FAQs and from there you can go to any site you want like normal.
The app also sync all your documents, music, videos, and pictures for use on the Gear as well. Fun stuff.
Hope this helps everyone who has been looking for a way to surf the Web via Gear.

Awesome, glad it worked for you too! I am planning to let the app creators know that this works for the Gear as well in hope that they might add gestures and the hide address bar as you said.
If not, maybe someone more skilled then myself can make something similar based off this.

Cool. What is this doing to your battery life. Was planning something but figured that it might drain the battery as hell.
Haven't noticed anything that drastically different. Other than the fact I am using more screen on time.
The Bluetooth connection is all shared so it's just the same as having it paired in the first place.
I got a full day use out of it, with
ATN, Tablet Talk, and ScreenShare all on.
Did quite a bit of Web Browsing trying stuff out. I also had several calls and maybe... 100ish texts if I had to guess.
I'll try tomorrow just having it on but not actually browsing to see if I notice a change.

You will need to sideload it through ADB or Wondershare. There is some guides on the forums but I will try to summarize.
Download wondershare on PC.
Install and connect to the Gear via USB. Then using Wondershares browser, search for and install ScreenShare tablet. It will download and install right to the Gear and then you are done.
You also will need a keyboard app. I use Hackers Keyboard, but I've heard people who had success with Google Keyboard.
Search and install either the same way as above then restart the Gear. This is important, the keyboard will not work until you fully restart the Gear.
Good luck! I will try to respond better soon as I get home.

Little unfortunate thing I just noticed, we can only have three Bluetooth connections including the Gear Manager itself. (So two third party) these include stuff like Ebay, Evernote, ATN, Tablet Talk, and ScreenShare.
So if these do not work for you, try turning one of those off. Hope a firmware update might increase this limit.
Battery life has hasn't been any worse than a normal days use for me today. I do not think it effects battery any more than Screen on and Bluetooth on does in the first place.

For anyone who doesn't want to or can't use wondeshare you can just download .apk extractor from the play store and extract it from the tablet version downloaded to your phone. I've been using this as the easiest way to get .apk files for my gear. There's an in app export that I just email myself the app's apk.

Just finished setting it up, works perfect !
Tasker integration on the gear is a go !
Some tips:
1. You need to active the bluetooth message listener using a tasker action, I personally have set up the listener to be activate if my gear is connected via bluetooth & deactivated if its not.
*NOTE* Its the only way to activate it.
2. The service must be enabled on both devices, I believe... ALTHOUGH ! someone please try only activating it on your phone tho to see if this is correct.. Im just speculating.

2. The service must be enabled on both devices, I believe... ALTHOUGH ! someone please try only activating it on your phone tho to see if this is correct.. Im just speculating.

And to answer YOUR question, I have the listener activated on the phone only and it works from that direction: watch > phone.
Wanted to let you guys know that tasker app factory works.
This is very useful for things like starting autovoice from the stock launcher, or sending a button press event to the phone's tasker.
With this, autovoice, autoremote, and null rom, my tasker needs are complete!
I just need to find the correct size icon, because my icon doesn't look good (too small)

Proof of concept more than anything. Wanted to see if it could be done. There are times when I may not want to talk. Might want to trigger an event silently.

I prefer the icon personally. Movement can go off while out and about.

AutoRemote 3.0 and AutoShare
new AutoRemote for Tasker v3.0 out
I am using AutoRemote 3.0 and AutoShare to share files, pics, messages etc from almost any app from GG to Note and vice verca
Works like a charm
Bluetooth sending intents etc all working great on GG
Is there a way to set your watch to tether to your note 3, when the note 3 flips to 4g?
Here is my problem. When home I use wifi all the time, which prevents you from ticking Bluetooth tether on your phone.
So I set up a tasker task to turn on Bluetooth tether when I leave the house, because I go to 4g.
Now what I would like to do is set up a task on my gear to automatically connect to the note?
Is there anyway to do this?

Dont, Its a bad idea.. will drain your battery.
What I have setup is a gesture on novalauncher to activate tethering and a timeout function when the screen is off for 30 seconds.
30 seconds screen off time = tethering disabled.
Setup using tasker.
Anyone else install SlingPlayer out of curiosity? It installs and works well w/ BT tethering. The one thing I cannot seem to change is the app auto-rotates the image 90 degrees, so you have to take the watch off to watch it. Is there an Xposed mod or another way of rotating the image back?

You can set orientation with app settings (xposed module).
Would have never guessed this works well? Which slingbox do you have? I'm very doubtful that the stream would be good enough via BT tethering?
I am also running slingbox..... It will take a minute to adjust to the speed but after that it works great! Only negative is battery..... but really That's a given!

Worked great. Thanks! And thanks for the great ROM also!
This surprisingly works really well. Is anybody else unable to change the channel using the keybpard though? The right column is practically gone, you can't use the "3, 8, and enter."
Is anyone able to post a picture of sling player running in their gear? I don't doubt that it works just want to see the scale of it. I think it is pretty freaking awesome to have TV on your watch.

Not a very clear picture, but this was one of the playoff games from this weekend.
Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to post that. Looks like I sold my gear a bit too soon. Probably would have kept it if I had come across this sooner. Oh well!

IP Camera Viewer
Since it's a similar idea, I figure I would just add this to the Slingbox post. I also set up IP Camera Viewer with success on the Gear. Now I can view my home cams from my watch as well.

I also got this to work, but come on, how practical is it If you have your watch, then your phone is close by and the screen size difference is huge.

I used it while at work to watch a playoff game! I was able to keep on working because my hands were free..... I would listen to the game and glance over at it when I heard the crowd or announcers speak up, Of course this is not practical for every job type!

Ive just recently noticed an issue withhe stock camera. I can open it, but i cant tap anything, no matter where i tap on the screen nothing happens, i can take pictures with the volume button though. Ive tried clearing the cache/data of the camera, and other cameras work fine, so im not sure what the problem is.

OK. What i see seems like everything should work. Just wondering what you have check or not in Developer Options, also (just guessing) for giggle, wondering if video you froze or stock launcher have anything to do with it. Can you try unfreeze this, restart phone and check., but first let me know developers options.

Same happened here
I bought an S3 before Christmas on eBay - OTA'd it to 4.3 (not knowing about Knox - slaps himself on head oh vey) and didn't really get round to starting using it as a main phone until this week, was showing it to someone - went to take a selfie and snap - camera opens but touch control on the buttons doesn't work.
Have installed Camera360 which works fine. So you aren't alone. Have you gotten any further with the problem - I might try downloading and flashing a camera from recovery maybe.
Hope we get it sorted

Dont really want to update cause I wouldnt be able to use the rom im on, Seems kind of strange there would be a bug in it that would show up out of nowhere and that no one else has had the issue. Im not doubting the fact it may have been fixed, i just dont really want to yet.
