I want to install CWM recovery mode. So first do I have to gain root privilages to my device? If so, how?
Or Can we directly install cwm recovery without rooting the device? If yes please guide me how.
Thank you so much

If I was on your place, I would flash with Odin JV5 or JV4 stock FW with baseband for your region (India?) and flash after that kernel Semaphore 2.7.4, it contains root, CWM recovery and works great.
Alternatively, you can flash JVU stock FW and after that the Semaphore 2.5.0 kernel (compatible for that firmware)
All you need is Odin 1.81, 1.82 or 1.83 (last compatible version for the i9000). You can check my latest thread, there is step by step guide, all download links and even video how to flash a kernel or whole firmware (same proceeding). But read carefully whole the guide before you start!

No, you don't have to root to get CWM, you can flash a semaphore GB kernel as is to get CWM and upgrade to others. juts follow this guide and the semaphore GingerBread (latest) kernel

Read my post in the below link.
I described the whole (flashing and rooting) thing in easiest steps and can be easily understood.

As of now LA1 is not directly Rootable. Flash Rootable ROM then root, and after flash LA1.
Follow this thread to rooting guide.

LA1 not rootable
Download guide from last link on my signature, it will guide you step by step to Root it. yes you have to downgrade it first. N if you follow it exactly, there wont be raise counter.
I was on LA1 but now I downgrade to KJ1 and flash to Custom Rom by use Odin successfully. Seems no problem. But I really want to know is Counter raise.
What happened if Counter raised and what is it? Thanks

Binary Count will raise only if you flash any custom ROM using PC Odin.*If your Binary Counter is 1 or more than than 1 you will lose warranty. and there is way to make it 0. but that app needs ICS. and Chainfire is working on it.
Just Boot in download mode
In your device upper left corner you can see Custom binary count
it should be : "No"
Thank you
So I've to wait for Chanefire's work
Hi, I'm a new user & I need to root my GNote. I read the thread by dr.ketan. But I need to root my phone directly (without downgrading). Is it possible now ? or do I need to wait few days (until CF-Root is out for DDLB2) ? or is it mandatory to downgrade it ?
no it's not possible. it has nothing to do with CF root LB2 or the present LB1. you still have to downgrade, root and then upgrade.

Thank you !, Well, I'll downgrade it first then.
btw, will it increase the flash count if I downgrade via PC odin (mentioned in dr.katen's post) ?

No, flashing stock Roms with PC Odin never increases the flash counter. Flashing custom Roms/kernels does.

Yes, you can flash CF-Root using PC Odin or Heimdall, but you will get the triangle and trip your binary counter.
There is a way to do it without voiding your warranty. Go to Abyss thread, and you will find out how.

Yes, flash all three files.
Well hello, I'm kinda new to Xperia Modding and I'm trying to install a custom rom on my phone.. I just have some questions first:
1. Is there any custom rom that allows me to send apps and else to my external SD Card?
2. My phone can't unlock the bootloader since I checked that and it says it can't.. can I still install roms that way?
3. I'm trying or I want to install the Evo9 Custom Rom .. and my phone specs are the following:
Model: C6943
Android Version 4.4.4
Baseband Version 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270054-51
Core Version: 3.4.0-perf-g0109737
Compilation Number: 14.4.A.0.108
What do I exactly have to do in order to install that custom ROM on my phone? since the tutorial for lockedbootloader phones is really confusing..
/!\ for locked bootload
If you come from 761 or before
- Flash the ROM by recovery
- Flash the Gapps
- Power off
- Flash by flashtool the good kernel (C6902/03/06/43) for your device 108ftf strippedkernel by Nut...
Reboot and enjoy

What's 761 exactly? that number doens't say anything to me actually ._.
and the "flash by flashtool the good kernel" isnt' making sense to me since I assume I'm ignorant.. please could someone explain those things to me?
Thanks in advance.
1. Yes
2. Yes but only stock based roms
3. You have to get phone rooted and custom recovery installed
Head over this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development/newroot-z1-t2807092
All info there.

I'm on .108.. do I need to reflash the kernel? or it stays untouched?
Does this work with any operator?
so i purchased a note 4 off swappa that was rooted it I was looking at flashing a lollipop rom. the phone is currently running android 4.4.4 and baseband n910tuvu1ank4, and kernel 3.10.0-2796035, [email protected] #1. I haven't flashed a rom since my note 2 so my memory is a bit fuzzy on the process. Do I have to update all of this before I can go ahead and flash a custom lollipop rom? if so could anyone be kind enough to walk me through the process? I am also running At&t off the tmobile phone. (would this explain why when I click software update, nothing happens? The phone doesn't even go to a page to try to check.) Thank you to any one that can provide assistance.
Follow the guide here to update to Lollipop before flashing a Lollipop ROM. In this thread you'll find all the files you need to update, root, and get a custom recovery so you can begin flashing ROMs. Most ROMs will have installation instructions in the first post of the thread.

thanks for the response. i have root already but im still on 4.4.4. im looking to flash lollipop roms. Do i need to update anything or can i just flash a 5.0 rom right over my 4.4.4 stock rooted rom? i reread your comment which files do i need to flash in that guide? the two cod6 lollipop files? maybe im not seeing it but in the guide i dont see how to uppdate to lollipop....
You have to Odin flash the COD6 lollipop firmware. Just flash the entire 1gb file. Then follow the steps in that thread to root and get custom recovery back

so if i odin flash the cod6 file that is 1.8 gb that will replace my kernel or do i need to flash that as well? and this will make me lose root. and will have to re root the phone... sorry for the question i feel like a newbie again to all of this....
Yes it will replace everything. Kernel, bootloader, recovery, modem, everything. And you will lose root. But you can just follow the steps in the linked thread to get root and recovery back. And no problem! We were all noobs once lol
