questions flashing lollipop roms... - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i purchased a note 4 off swappa that was rooted it I was looking at flashing a lollipop rom. the phone is currently running android 4.4.4 and baseband n910tuvu1ank4, and kernel 3.10.0-2796035, [email protected] #1. I haven't flashed a rom since my note 2 so my memory is a bit fuzzy on the process. Do I have to update all of this before I can go ahead and flash a custom lollipop rom? if so could anyone be kind enough to walk me through the process? I am also running At&t off the tmobile phone. (would this explain why when I click software update, nothing happens? The phone doesn't even go to a page to try to check.) Thank you to any one that can provide assistance.

Follow the guide here to update to Lollipop before flashing a Lollipop ROM. In this thread you'll find all the files you need to update, root, and get a custom recovery so you can begin flashing ROMs. Most ROMs will have installation instructions in the first post of the thread.

thanks for the response. i have root already but im still on 4.4.4. im looking to flash lollipop roms. Do i need to update anything or can i just flash a 5.0 rom right over my 4.4.4 stock rooted rom? i reread your comment which files do i need to flash in that guide? the two cod6 lollipop files? maybe im not seeing it but in the guide i dont see how to uppdate to lollipop....

You have to Odin flash the COD6 lollipop firmware. Just flash the entire 1gb file. Then follow the steps in that thread to root and get custom recovery back

so if i odin flash the cod6 file that is 1.8 gb that will replace my kernel or do i need to flash that as well? and this will make me lose root. and will have to re root the phone... sorry for the question i feel like a newbie again to all of this....

Yes it will replace everything. Kernel, bootloader, recovery, modem, everything. And you will lose root. But you can just follow the steps in the linked thread to get root and recovery back. And no problem! We were all noobs once lol

I was able to root mines on the same firmware. But I couldn't get the null rom to stick or show up on my watch. I went and factory reset everything. Now I can't get cydia impacter to root it I get error . Don't know what I did wrong now.

rooting is fine on the new nc1 firmware, just make sure you follow the correct steps in the guide on this forum.
if you want to flash null rom, you will need to downgrade, flash mk7 firmware, root that, then install null rom, the guide is also on this forum. The reason is null rom is based off the previous version to nc1.
if you want to go back to stock, you have to use odin to flash the stock firmware, that is the only way.
downgrade gets stuck

Kitkat wifi issue

Haven't seen a thread for this, so here it goes. I followed one of the guides to get me to kk. I was having trouble doing ota so I flashed the 2400258.zip file, and rooted with tr. Not sure if the problem was there before root, but after every restart, I have to re enter wifi password. I have tried udroid, and firekat ,and still same issue. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you. Would also like to add my wife is on 100% official kk, rooted with tr, and she has no issues.
You must be on nc2 rom with old bootloader.
i have the same wifi issue.
1. Flash the nc2 bootloader
or flash a older rom that is not nc2.

What thread is the bootloader, and if it's Odin, what option do I flash it? ap?
Everybody say do not flash new bootloader cus you can't downgrade back to jellybean. But why would you want to go back?
Check the general thread titled nc2 bootloader/download fix.
Thanks bud. I'll give it a go.

[Q] Remove Malware by Flashing a New Rom.

I wanted to flash my ROM to the stock ROM to remove any possible malware.
If I flash to a custom ROM will the Malware be removed?
Not really sure if I have actual Malware, but want to do it just in case. It's one of those random numbers showing up on the data usage screen.
Regardless, I want to act as if it were a virus or malware. Will flashing to a Custom ROM get me the results I am looking for?
Just return the device to stock via flashing the stock images. During that process you can command to erase user data and in the end you will have a phone like it came out the box.
Is that like a nomral factory reset?
I was trying to do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
The link for the firmware was broken.

(Can't post directly there with less than 10 posts.
So this, Safestrap recovery, is only if your already rooted, right? I would be following "For unlocked users" instructions if I have never done anything to my phone. It is a late 2013 version I think it may have an OTA 4.4 update, though not sure if that applies since its not rooted or anything.
The instructions say "1. Boot into TWRP 2.7 factory reset then install the rom."
But I need root access to install twrp?
I suppose using the ROM for my phone with the instructions form he thread I was looking at before (linked in prior post) will be a bad idea.
Since I have done nothing to my phone (i think an ota update to 4.4.2), can't I simply do a custom image recovery and have it be okay?
This thread seems to suggest i can just us RS LITE and boot the recovery image I pulled from the other thread using RSDLITE.
Would that work out? Should I, Can I, use the safestrap or unlocked image from here (iKryptonites thread)? I wasn't able to find my rom in the other links you posted, though else were it was hinted that I could use a sprint rom.
With a locked bootloader and no root, you have no reason to think about custom recoveries, SafeStrap, and ROMs.
If you want to upgrade to 4.4.4, flash this http://www.filefactory.com/file/63sfruck3srr/REPW_XT1094_4.4.4_KXE21.187-L2.24_cid6_CFC.xml.zip in RSD Lite.
If you want to stay on 4.4.2, flash this http://www.filefactory.com/file/6ra...A20.16-1.24-1.12-12-release-keys-cid6.xml.zip in RSD Lite.
I would recommend flashing 4.4.2 (if that's what is currently on your phone) then check out Sunshine to see if it will unlock your bootloader. If you need instructions on how to use RSD Lite, use Google. Do not try to downgrade the firmware on your phone.

[Q] Major help needed with lollipop root

Hi Everyone
I have updated my note 3 to the lollipop version found on this thread using Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/100-stock-lollipop-5-0-n900aucueoc1-t3069609
I'm now totally lost as to how i would go about rooting so that i can either flash a custom rom, or remove bloatware etc. I have rooted several devices before, but all the different note 3 models is whats got me lost and frustrated. My goal is to have safestrap (or something similar) installed, along with a recovery of some sort (cwm etc)
Does anyone have some clear and concise instructions as to how to root this device and flash rom's afterwards
Thanks for any help i get guys, sorry to be a pain

Odin back to NC2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54803130&postcount=136 Then root it, install Busybox and Safstrap. If you want Rooted Lollipop still "OC1 Stock Rooted Very Easy Procedure" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2 Safestrap is your only recovery, no CWM or TWRP it's an AT&T phone so the Bootloader is locked.
Thanks for reply

Rooting from 4.4.2 on T-Mobile

Hello all!
Have searched for over an hour and still no root.
Trying to root my S5 from 4.4.2. Phone is a SM-G900A,Baseband; G900AUCU2ANG3, KERNEL 3.4.0-2178781.
I tried towelroot and no dice.
I found this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299 but this is from back in 2014.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Flash ND3 kernel Try towelroot again.
Then flash ng3 kernel back.

Using the files linked in the post worked. Thanks XRange. Now that I have root I'd like to install a ROM. I'm currently on 4.4.2. If I wanted to install a rom that is 4.4.4 or 5.0, do I need to do anything special, or can I just install directly.
THANKS!!!
