Hello all!
Have searched for over an hour and still no root.
Trying to root my S5 from 4.4.2. Phone is a SM-G900A,Baseband; G900AUCU2ANG3, KERNEL 3.4.0-2178781.
I tried towelroot and no dice.
I found this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299 but this is from back in 2014.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

Using the files linked in the post worked. Thanks XRange. Now that I have root I'd like to install a ROM. I'm currently on 4.4.2. If I wanted to install a rom that is 4.4.4 or 5.0, do I need to do anything special, or can I just install directly.
THANKS!!!

MLG is not official. NC2 is the official kitkat.
Restore your phone to MJ5(if your on MLG only), root, install safesrap, then upgrade with odin to Dyamic Kat or Undriod kitkat that already has root, install safestrap.

Sorry for the noob-ness of this question. I just went to the DynamicKat (3.0 NC2 version) thread and read the OP.
The OP makes it look like you need to use SafeStrap to flash this... Above, you referenced ODIN. I'm very confused.
I'm getting a warranty replacement Note3 this morning in the mail and, assuming it comes with 4.3, I'm NOT taking the NC2 OTA. I'm really wanting to get rooted KK.
Any advice or guidance you can further provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
If you get a 4.3 device you will need to root it, then use Odin, then install safestrap.
Here's an example.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the help.
Fingers are crossed that my device comes with 4.3
A new update is being released for the S5 Active, since i didn't see a thread on how to root the device... Here it is...
Towel root works on the NE4 build but will not work on the new NG3 update.
So what i did was downgraded with the firmware file found on Sammobile with the NE4 build.
Then used Towel root and installed SuperSU, it said it failed to install Supersu but after a reboot all was well.
Oh this was a AT&T S5 active.
SuperSU worked fine and root was verified!
I haven't posted much before. I would like to give back to the awesome community who has done so much for me!
Hit the thanks button if i helped!
Could really use your help

Trying to use your same method
I am trying to root my phone with Towel root and it won't recognize my phone either. My phone deleted all it's text messages, for some reason, last night and I need to root my phone so I can save some of the messages. Came across your post and figured you can help me. I downloaded the may version of the sm-g870A and odin. Odin won't open. I've never done this before and could use your help. If I can downgrade my firmware, or change it, in a way where Towel root would recognize my phone that would be exactly what I need. Also tried all the Modstrings, did no good. Whatever you could say to help, can hit me up personally and help me, idk if you could do that, but it'd be awesome if you could help me.

NE4 and NG3 are official kernel images...
Downgrade consists of flashing the NE4 kernel image via Odin...then rooting the device....and then flashing the NG3 kernel via Odin which will give you a fully rooted rom that is the latest version...
Knox will NOT trip if you follow the thread instructions...
We are forced to downgrade the kernel to gain root due to the exploit being patched in the latest update...
The root method works perfectly....g
Thank you for your help

Lol. That is not what I'm asking. what I'm asking for is what firmware do I need to step backwards to kit Kat. I know if I can get it on revision 2 bootloader lollipop, I can downgrade to revision one kit Kat. I did this in the past but I forgot how. Right now I downgraded to 5.0 and I'm trying kingroot and Kingo root. It's not working

I did. Says fuse binary of 2. That's why I need the lp firmware with the binary of 1. So that I can downgrade to 4.4. Believe me I know what I'm doing, I just can't find the appropriate firmware. I need the boc 5 firmware. But that was an OTA I think

thank you very much for your Noble efforts but none of your suggestions are working. I've done all this stuff already dude. This is why I need the boc5 firmware
so i purchased a note 4 off swappa that was rooted it I was looking at flashing a lollipop rom. the phone is currently running android 4.4.4 and baseband n910tuvu1ank4, and kernel 3.10.0-2796035, [email protected] #1. I haven't flashed a rom since my note 2 so my memory is a bit fuzzy on the process. Do I have to update all of this before I can go ahead and flash a custom lollipop rom? if so could anyone be kind enough to walk me through the process? I am also running At&t off the tmobile phone. (would this explain why when I click software update, nothing happens? The phone doesn't even go to a page to try to check.) Thank you to any one that can provide assistance.
Follow the guide here to update to Lollipop before flashing a Lollipop ROM. In this thread you'll find all the files you need to update, root, and get a custom recovery so you can begin flashing ROMs. Most ROMs will have installation instructions in the first post of the thread.

thanks for the response. i have root already but im still on 4.4.4. im looking to flash lollipop roms. Do i need to update anything or can i just flash a 5.0 rom right over my 4.4.4 stock rooted rom? i reread your comment which files do i need to flash in that guide? the two cod6 lollipop files? maybe im not seeing it but in the guide i dont see how to uppdate to lollipop....
You have to Odin flash the COD6 lollipop firmware. Just flash the entire 1gb file. Then follow the steps in that thread to root and get custom recovery back

so if i odin flash the cod6 file that is 1.8 gb that will replace my kernel or do i need to flash that as well? and this will make me lose root. and will have to re root the phone... sorry for the question i feel like a newbie again to all of this....
Yes it will replace everything. Kernel, bootloader, recovery, modem, everything. And you will lose root. But you can just follow the steps in the linked thread to get root and recovery back. And no problem! We were all noobs once lol
I just flashed .270, clean install over .108.. It's great, but I lost root. Now, I downloaded a pre-rooted .270 zip but obviously I need a recovery to install it, and Nut's XZ doesn't seem to be working.. What do you suggest guys? Downgrading is the only chance?
You could use KingRoot to root the device, how you get Nuts Recovery on that I do not know, so I suggest downgrading root, and recovery then use pre-rooted firmware to update to 270.
I found a lockeddualrecorvery2.8.15 installer somewhere on here this morning, worked great.

I tried that with .270 stock but it's not working here haha.. Do you have .270 or previous fw?
Plus, can anyone tell me how to get a flashable ftf out of the prerooted zip? It'd solve my problem..
I have never been able to get recovery onto 5.0.2 after kingroot, but I might be doing something wrong. Best way would be to downgrade. Removing ftf from the pre-root will not solve your problem as if you just flash the ftf you are just flashing the firmware itself and not the SuperSU and Recovery that help to root the device when flashing a pre-rooted firmware.
you can root. 270 with kingroot, then install nut recovery 2.8.15 and you have root and recovery ?
Did it guys, already facing bootloops for some modding stuff but did it ??

That never worked for me when I tried it, that's why I went back to the Pre-root route, however I have found this that might help the OP

Use Kingroot to root your phone and follow instructions on the link I've posted, just tried it and it works, then use nuts installer to install recovery.

I have ran Kingo root method and ran Odin v.309 and v.3.10 root method several times and both these rooting methods have FAILED. Towleroot doesn't work on 4.4.4 you need to back date to 4.4.2 kk then towleroot will work install busybox and j. Rummy root checker, safestrap 3.75 install ST mind you it will say not active until you install a custom rom in one of the slots I believe you can just activate slot one without installing a rom and it'll put safestrap in a active State. Droidveiws is a good place to get the 4.4.2 firmware get the AP BL CP files the install via doing 3.09 it's simple. Me personally I like kk better than lollipop.
