I seem to have lost the ability to check off USB debugging since upgrading my Gear... has this happened to anyone else? ... I see no mention of it here. Is there a fix for getting it back?

Yes it works!
Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About gear." Tap it.Scroll down, where you see "Software version". Tap it seven (7) times. After the third tap, you'll see a playful dialog that says you're four taps away from being a developer. (If only it were that simple, eh?) Keep on tapping, and *poof*, you've got the USB Debug option back.

My SGN display was broken including the LCD, hence i'm not able to see anything. I'd like to access and control the device from my PC, what is the best app for this?
My main goal right now is to enable tethering. The touch still works, so i'm confident it can be done.
In the interim, could someone take screenshots of each step from the home screen to enable tethering and post them for me?
I'm going to try and enable it blindly.
Thanks in advance.
The device is a N7000 running stock ICS.
I had a similar problem...

I won't say it's easy but if you are on a Samsung based ROM you might have a chance. (Obviously you'll need to buy a MHL cable though.)
Alternatively, if you've got USB Debugging turned on then you might be able to use Droid Explorer which includes a remote control add-on.
Yes, mhl cable +hdmi is the best chance

Hit Home
Swipe to Unlock
Hit Menu
Hit approx 1cm above menu button (You're now in Settings)
Hit roughly the middle of the screen (on the left hand side - its just easier on the side) "More"
Hit approximately 1cm down from the middle of the screen - "Tethering....."
Press approximately 1 inch down from the Samsung logo.. - "USB Tethering"
Good luck...
Thanks a million.
Haven't gotten it done yet, but i feel much closer.
Trying to get to settings from swiping down from the top of the screen as i'm not familiar with the other method.

Assuming you have swipe to Unlock
Just lock the screen with the power button - Press power button again then;
Swipe anywhere to unlock
and then press the Menu key..
The Settings option is about 1 cm or so above the Menu key
Lol, i just figured out what the menu key is. I must admit it wasn't a key i used alot.
Something else i just found out, the bottom 1/4 of the screen, touch doesn't work.
I'm starting to lose hope of getting this done.
Could you swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification screen, there is a settings link there, thats where i'm use to getting to the settings from. I think with a screen shot of that i'll be able to get it done.
Got it done. Found a pic on the internet of the screen i was talking about. Would still like a proper pic. :good:

Any chance you have AirDroid installed? It has a live view (screenshot) in pc browser ability built in, it can help if you don't have an MHL adapter.
If not, force an install from accessing play store from pc.

Hi,
I recently got a wireless charging receiver for the phone and now I get this annoying popup which says to close the micro usb properly to prevent water damage.
This happens also sometimes during charging in the middle of the night.
Can anyone tell me how to disable the popup? To make it clearer, it is not the flashing text that appears when the phone is connected to the charger. ( this can be disabled via xposed module)
The one I am talking about is more like a text with a white background picture.
"for protection against water damage firmly seal the charging cover before use"
Anyone else with the "problem" ?
I am on NEE-I9295XXUBMK2.
Thanks for the help in advance.

this also happens when I disconnect the device from USB.

I have found battery_cover_notice.xml in systemui\res\layout
There is an battery_cover_notice_image and an battery_cover_notice_message
The Pic is help_img_usb.png in folder systemui\res\drawable-hdpi
Now you can try and delete the battery_cover_notice.xml from the SystemUI

I tried and it worked ( at least the popup doesn't appear anymore) but I do not have a notification area at the top anymore. No clock, Signal or anything.
Perhaps it's because of the odex file? Didn't touch that.
I will try it again. Might be, I did something wrong.....
Thanks
okay thanks for feedback...
I will investigate this....
So is there no non-root way of disabling this?

I am.
No solution found so far.
Only I remember - that started after OTA update from Samsung in later 2013.
On original software I didn't have such warning.
Before and after is 4.2.2 Android, I didn't notice any changes, so I am lookiing for old firmware to download...
p.s. I also have wireless charger from "indiegogo"

Cloud it be that this notice is a toast with a custom theme? You could check it with my app EnhancedToast, and hide it if it is a toast. Enable logging in the app and watch it.And yes, root is required for Xposed. Btw, the Google edition don't show it at all

^Mostly what I was going to say, so thanks.
You should check EnhancedToast if you can, and you could always switch ROM's - I'm loving the CM 10.2 ROM, which doesn't have the warning, and offers a lot of other advantages. If a notification comes up in the bar, long-press it and see if comes up with the "app info" button - it could be run through some sort of stock app that you could disable or uninstall altogether.
Hi everyone! I'm new on the forum and in smartphones as well. Rooted GT-i9252 last week. Starting to develop app in future.

Any good source to learn more of ROMs? What do I lose if I dump the original, what do I get with some other ROM?
How should I backup? Meaning there's lot's of data:
- contacts and messaging and that stuff
- pictures, music, videos etc
- OS (?)
- ROM
- Apps (downloaded and system)
Maybe someone could explain the best practice to backup ROM,OS and apps.
Thanks in advance, Kaptah.

What method of rooting your phone did you use? They are not the same thing, but it is possible to do them both at the one time. If everything looks different, then yes, you would have changed your ROM while rooting.

You installed "Wanam xposed"?

This problem appeared/reappeared when i upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (ML2)
After rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690133 )
and disabling KNOXagent it still gives this warning, which it did not do after the 4.2.2 Active Root.
This is merely an annoyance but if someone figures out a quick way to disable it that would be grand.
i have this issue too. cant wait for a fix for this. just updated to 4.3 a few days ago and having to tap the bubble everytime is just annoying. why the hell would they add these rediculous notifications? its not like att or samsung will stand behind the "waterproof" claim anyway..... water damage weather the door is open or closed means your screwed no matter what.
I've personally tried using the "EnhancedToast" module for xposed and the prompts do not register as toast events. It has to be something else.
I cannot enable Usb Debug mode on my Gear, any idea what I am doing wrong?
On my gear, I am gong to apps-->Settings--Gear info
When I tap gear info, there is not check box to enable USB debugging.
Any help would be great, I really want to root this thing.
see the tutorial here
also here is the exact page from that for Debug
Very easy solution for this one. Go into your Gear Info, and to About Gear. Then tap the build number 7 times. Back out and the option should be there.

FYI, this technique to enable USB debugging works for all Android devices running Jelly Bean 4.2 and higher, not just the Gear.
I had usb debugging available before but now it does not appear. I had tried going to settings, gear info and then tapping serial number 7 times but it did not work. Any suggestions?

Hey guys,So I just got my Galaxy Gear today and Ive read around and even Samsung's own manual says there is this Safety Assistance where you hit the power button 3 times and it will take a picture with GPS and send it to you emergency contact. The manual says to enable it under settings then safety assistance. But under my settings in gear manager there is no such setting. I contacted Samsung and they can't find where it even says in the manual. Did this feature get removed,or am I just missing something?
Im including the link to Samsung's site and its on PG.35 of the manual.

My Gear and my new Gear 2 both have the option. My wife's does not. I think the issue is the rom you are running. My wife's Note 3 is running the stock T-mobile rom and she does not have the opinion. I upgraded to an international rom (to get rid of the t-mobile crap on my phone, most specifically the block they put on the tethering) and a side effect is I now have the Safety Assistance option.
Just figured I would let you know, incase you were interested,

The app wouldn't do any good unless you had the option in Gear Manager to turn it off and on, and to set an emergency contact for the app to message.
Perhaps there is a way to inject/mock the version of the rom to allow the option in Gear Manager so the option/ability is enabled.
