[Q] Is anyone experiencing flakey dock + tablet connection? - Asus Transformer TF701

My dock is randomly disconnecting from the tablet while in use. All of a sudden I cant type and the battery meter for dock disappears. I've traded both dock and tablet and the new pair is having the same issue.
I've also tried updating to the downloable firmware off the Asus site, but I fear this is a physical design problem.
Never had this problem with my TF700.

There's a thread below already talking about it.

So, have all tf701 this issue? Are there any tf701 without this problems?

I don't use the dock too much, but didn't have any problems with this until now...

Same here

My unit exhibits the same behavior. I have a new tablet coming from Amazon for another reason (headphone port is physically defective and prevents full headphone plug insertion. continued insertion attempts causes damage to the headphone plug). I hope the new unit doesn't have the issue, but I'm not holding my breath after reading the posts above.
The issue seemed to lessen after I applied the 10.26.1.7 US update, but it certainly did not go away completely.
The intermittent disconnection seems to be aggravated by changes in pressure on the hinge mating area.. (i.e. attempting to change the angle of the tablet in the dock).
Always, a re-seat of the tablet in the dock corrects the situation, but sometimes only for a short period.

I was having dock connection issues. I changed out the dock and the connection seems solid now. If I were you I would try another dock. Seems others are having problems as well. Maybe you had bad luck and got two bad ones. Did you get both from same source? Maybe a bad lot?

Does your new dock seem more snug as well, by which I mean there is less looseness and wiggling of the tablet while docked? Also, if you don't mind, what are the first 6 characters in your serial numbers?

Havining had the TF101 and this with a bad and a good dock I can tell you that you should hear 2 distinct clicks when the dock properly seats. My bad one did not do that.

Loss of touch sensitivity when charging

I recently discovered the lower portion of my touchscreen isn't as sensitive whenever I am charging the phone with the original charger and cable.
It is so bad that I am unable to complete the sliding motion to unlock my phone since I am using the white bar for widgetlocker.
Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and should I be worried?
Thanks!
According to the quick start guide, (yep that small paper nobody reads) that could be caused by unstable current when you are charging. But i am not really sure since i don't have that problem..

I know this may sound weird, but I have heard that some have found using another charger helped similar issues. Maybe try another charger and see if that alleviates the issue.
I can confirm that it's due to the charger or the wall outlet. I have my SGS2, and I've experienced this multiple times. On my iPhone 4 I also had this issue all the time (I think a lot of people complained about the screen sensitivity while charging), and Apples stance was "change outlets" and that fixed my issues, my friend's issue, and my roommates issue on our iPhones back when. Make sure you're using the correct charger as well, with correct voltages.

thanks for all the replies. i've now tried using the various powerpoint outlets in my house and as well as a few iphone plugs but all of it yield the same result, my screen still remains the same.
in fact, this issue seems to have gotten worse after sending the phone in for servicing 2 days ago and samsung service centre claimed they changed the lcd screen and the motherboard.

Hey man, Did you got the issue ? I would suggest, if your phone is rooted, you must be knowing how to change kernels. Do that. It should definitely solve the issue. This thing is called, deep sleep or ghost touch.

[answered]Not charging via pogo pins

My dock has been charging my phone perfectly for weeks, the other day I came in and plopped the phone on the dock and nothing.
I checked the pogo pins (of the dock) with a multimeter, they are working. I've tried different power sources for the dock as well (wall adapter, pc, other cables).
I've checked to make sure the pins are making contact with the phone, good solid contact.
I haven't changed anything on the phone recently, any suggestions?
The phone charges fine through USB.
[ANSWERED]
since i apparently posted this on the apple forums instead of xda, all the replies were "shoulda bought apple products"
so anyone having this problem, i solved it by reinstalling a nand backup. apparently it was a software issue. hopefully this saves you from the apple fanboys.

No, I was too impatient for it and got the goosewhite dock, besides I like the looks of it better tbh. The dock is putting out power, I don't get why it's not charging. its not a complex system at all.
Get the Sony one if you don't want the same issue occurring.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
why would changing the dock have anything to do with the problem? when voltage is applied to the pogo pins, the phone does not charge. how would changing the dock i use make a difference in that at all?
i would understand if the pogo pins were putting out less power or no power, but they put in exactly the amount of power going into the dock, they make good solid contact, i've check continuity and its making a solid connection...
Then take the dock apart and see if anything got loose

Because the one you've bought is rubbish!
I brought this as an alternative to the Sony DK26 because I was sick of opening the flap everytime I wanted to charge my phone. It does fit the Xperia Z and looks nice enough. It also activates the dock mode and the Xperia's smart connect function. This is why I gave it 1 star. HOWEVER, it outputs at 500mA as opposed to the 1800mA delivered by the Sony dock. This means it charges your phone incredibly slowly. I had my phone on the dock charging for 11 Hours and it managed to deliver a battery charge of just 51% which is ridiculous compared to the Sony charger which delivers a 100% charge in 2 hours.

I do not get why would anyone go for something cheaper and unreliable. Its like those iPhone users buying cheap non original cables to charge their iPhones, ended up causing the phone to blow up or messed up and blames it on Apple.
and yes you are the owner of the phone and you have the right to buy whatever 3rd party equipment for your phone, but dont expect it to work 100%.
Doesnt make sense if you ask me sir.
It is really hard to determine the main cause of this matter. It could be your phone: hardware or software (i doubt it is this one), or the 3rd party dock.
You tell me which one to throw and buy a new one.
Already told you why I bought it. There's nothing but stupidity in that review as docks do not put out power, they transfer it, the power supply puts out power. As for the amperage, it puts out what you put in. it will do [email protected] if you are stupid enough to put that through it... Assuming the wires don't burn. if you are going to base your assumptions on a review, at least choose one from someone knowledgeable. also, my dock never took 11 hours to charge, not that i ever bothered timing it but it sure as hell wasnt more than 4 hours (and thats giving an a good bit of a safety margin), i'd guess 2 hours 0-100 if i had to.
What I'm telling you is that the phone is not accepting the charge, not that the dock is messed up but the phone. And I wanted to know if anyone had similar issues or suggestions.
I'm glad you have insight on the matter and an opinion, however you are not trying to answer the question. I've already informed you the dock is intact and making a connection. I've checked the voltage of the xperia official charger at the cable at its end: 4v dc, the dock when hooked to that charger is 4v dc tested at the pins. I can put a larger amount through it, and any number of amps. A pogo dock is a very simple device, official or otherwise, the difference is mainly in price and design. The diy thread is a perfect example of that.
@LitoNi
I took it apart, nothing is loose. thanks

UPDATE: WORKING 2013.11 Dock

After returning 4 docks with a date of 2013.10 I finally received a dock with the date of 2013.11. Should I be happy or pissed that I didn't receive a dock dated 2013.12? I heard the November docks fixed the hinge problem but there might be a battery problem with this version. Can anyone confirm this or if there are other problems? I'm going to do extensive testing in the mean time. Thanks.

Before ASUS starting denying that the 2013.09 and 2013.10 builds were defective, a few people claimed that ASUS confirmed those builds were defective and that the 2013.11 and 2013.12 builds fixed the problem. I haven't heard anyone receiving 2013.12 so i'm not sure they exist either.
But anyway, I fully charged the tablet and dock to 100% each and now I'm going to see if there are any problems as the battery drains. Interestingly it seems that both the tablet and dock are draining at the same time. Currently the tablet is at 96% and the dock is at 98%. I don't remember it doing that with the orginal dock. The charge light on the tablet used to be on as if the dock was charging the tablet. There are no lights currently on but it may be too soon for any conclusions.
Are both the tablet and the dock updated to the newest available firmware?

So how is the dock connection to the tablet? Does it feel like there is less play? Any Disconnects? Where did you purchase it?
(Amazon just put the dock back on "Defect/Hold".)
Thanks for posting your results.

Yes the first thing I did was update the firmware. I bought the dock from Amazon. Here is my review on Amazon with everything I went through with returns: Review
The connection feels much tighter. I can't make it disconnect by adjusting the tablet angle. I inserted an SD card in the tablet for an easy test with disconnects because it prepares the card whenever you insert it or when it reconnects. The only time I notice the SD card re-preparing is when the tablet is in the closed position and then opened.
As for the battery issue: I jumped the gun when I said the tablet and dock depleted at the same time. The dock depleted to 98% then stopped. The tablet continued to deplete up to around 60% (ish) at that point the charging light went on the tablet and the dock started to charge the tablet. Tablet made it up to about 88% as the dock completely drained to point where I could not use it anymore. Disconnecting the dock and reconnecting it for some reason returned 7% but still continued to deplete.
This sounds like a software issue that a firmware update could fix. Someone else said that disconnecting and reconnecting the dock when the dock starts to charge the tablet will allow the tablet to drain further before the dock kicks in.
What needs to happen is the tablet needs to provide power to the keyboard when it is drained or the dock needs to stop charging the tablet when it is low on power, allowing the dock to still be usable.
Battery Issue: Wow step forward / step back. The dock is now just mostly useless (assuming it drains after the first few hours of use).
Thanks for the update.
I'm surprised the dock charges any differently between the older and the 2013.11 versions. Hopefully, they can fix this one in the firmware. It might be worth an E-Mail or call to Asus to see how they want to explain this one.
I have 2013.11 edition, I bought tablet from local shop (Czech Republic) 2 weeks ago. My dock have only one problem, in specific angel keyboard doesn't work.. so I have to "open it" more / less. (I will try to change keyboard) But other things seems OK

I'm not 100% sure it did. Maybe since we had to always reconnect the dock with the 2013.10 version we never noticed it since undocking the tablet allows the tablet to drain a little further. Unless the dock/tablet was completely still I was never able to go a whole batter cycle with the old dock without it disconnecting.
I'll let someone else contact ASUS. I'm tired of their terrible customer service. Especially since they lied to me about the defective dock.

I might consider returning both the tablet and dock and get a Dell venue 11. I'm very disappointed in the build quality and customer support from Asus. I started noticing flickering on the screen and black boxes in Chrome as well. It hasn't been as bad as what some other users have experienced but it was enough to really piss me off.

Dock Works!!!!
OK very interesting update. The first time, when both dock and tablet were at 100%, the dock began to charge the tablet once it reached about 70%. Then when the dock was depleated, the keyboad did not work anymore. I also said when I undocked it and reconnected the keyboard had 7% left for some reason and continued to work. I just assumed it would stop working again as it drained. So I charged it all back up and ran the tablet for a little last night. Reached 70%, dock started charging the tablet and after the dock depleated to about 75%, I shut off the tablet for the night. I did not however plug it in. I noticed the dock was still charging the tablet so I assumed he dock would be dead the next morning. I didn't turn on the tablet untill now, (doing a ton of research at work on the dell venue.) I turned on the tablet and noticed the dock was at 0% BUT it is still working. I'm typing all of this right now using the dock and its at 0%. I don't know why it stoped working when it reached 0 yesterday but this is great news.
My new experiment will be to start all over again at 100%,, let the dock deplete, see if it stops working again and if it does, undock and redock to see if it continues to work. If not maybe just a reset will let it work again at 0%. If this is the case then I would consider the tablet not defective with the 2013.11 batch. The black squares I only noticed once in Chrome. I'm going to monitor the flickering. These issues have nothing to do with the dock.
I've got the flickering and black boxes in chrome on both my S4 and HTC One, so I don't think that issue is the transformers fault.

Yeah it is a shame. I like the fact that the bookmarks sycs across all my devices, Home, work, phone, tablet. But it does seem a little buggy on my tablets. I'm glad those issues are not specific to the TF701.
Unless I find any other major problem between now and the end of the month, I guess i'm not going to return this unit for a different tablet. I'll finally be able to root this sucker and install your ROM sbdags. BTW, thanks for that. This is the longest I had an android device, since my first android phone, that I didn't root. Didn't want to mess with anything in case I had to return it.
So it is confirmed, if the dock stops working after its battery is depleted all you have to do is undock it once and reconnect and it should continue to work.
Hi Guys,
some of these problems are already discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530069
Some people (including me) confirm the black squares in Chrome disappear after FW update or hard reset.

Thanks for the update. It doesn't seem quite right though - when the dock battery depletes you should still be able to type without undocking/redocking, in my mind at least. Can owners of previous Transformers (TF101, TF300, TF700) confirm how their docks behave when the dock battery depletes?
Doesn't the dock need power to run?

[Q] Anyone else have broken wireless charging? Help me out.

Hey guys.
I bought one of those NewWisdom stickers and it worked like a charm..... for a week. Then it would sit on the charger, show charging for a second, and then it would "disconnect". I am using multiple Tylt's and other chargers that I know work, but this error happened.
I read that the little stickers can be crappy and go bad, so I asked for a warranty replacement. I got a new one, installed it, and bam, same issue right away.
Is it more likely that I got 2 faulty charging stickers? Or that something is wrong on the inside of the phone?
I know you've posted on the threads re: the sticker.
Re: breakdown of the charging, I think the most relevant thread re: this is here:

Though lots of reports here too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/wireless-charging-meltdowns-t3163156
Are you saying that right after the new sticker install, it never worked? Or it worked, then stopped?
It's becoming a widespread issue. Not everyone, but A LOT of folks.
My personal opinion, based on my observations on 2 phones using an OEM charging back, with a new sticker as a backup checker, is it is a hardware issue within the phone. Or perhaps some software issue tied into the hardware.

I posted to see what sticker was best and if anyone had one die on them. Seems that this is common enough. I hadn't posted this exact question before.
The new one i bought never worked. I know the pins are lined up and I even padded the back of them a little. My QI pads all show a green light, then a red light. Makes me think the sticker works just fine, but the inside of the phone is FUBARed.

Hahah, me too! The camera, if you don't get one with a pink tinge overlay, is fantastic! The iffy touchscreen issues are fixed with the 10N update!
The fact the wireless charging capability keeps breaking down as a hardware issue is ridiculous though.
I may post a poll to see if anyone has managed to keep their charging ability >1 month. Maybe when more time passes, as the phone is still quite new.
Just to let people know... I got a replacement today and the back that didn't work on my current phone works perfectly on the new one. For some reason... This issue is tied to the phone and not the stickers coming out.

Yup there's definitely a faulty part in these phones.
Let us know how long the wireless charging lasts on this one.
Just a note, my wireless charging also stopped. It was a sticker I put on the original back. Just figured i'd screw with it later and that it probably wasn't making good contact so I picked up a regular wireless circle case to use in the meantime and it's also not charging. Likely something in the phone but I have no idea where to start. Oh well, that month of wireless charging was nice again. (and yes, I've tried different chargers that I know work, etc. Hah!)
Going strong for 4 weeks and still charging(with three different QI chargers and two different stickers). Possible cheap quality chargers are blowing out the hardware?

Recommendation for wireless charger receiver?

I have been using Samsung Galaxy S6 for two and half years, and I am about to switching to 5T.
I wonder anybody has a recommendation for wireless charging receiver -- the thin tap that sticks to the back of your phone. I tried some of them, including the name brand Nillkin, on my other phone (Le Pro 3) and found out that the battery will start to drain after being charged to full. Hence I wonder if oneplus has such problems or not.
Thanks.

that wasnt his q. i dont know that anyone has had a chance to try one to make a recommendation. i suppose any usb c receiver that is qi compatible will work. maybe you can find one that supports quick charge.
I don't know if anybody tried the nillkin wireless charging case for oneplus5. I hope they can make one for 5t as well. I can't leave wireless charging now.
I have Oneplus 5 magic case with car magnetic charger and it work perfectly. I wrote e-mail to [email protected] and got feedback - similar case for 5t would be available soon.
Just want to have an update. Returned the Nillkin receiver, got another one, Tankship. Surprisingly this less popular one works. Used for over 24 hours, and was able to charge my phone to 100%. Of course, charging is slow, which is expected. But I sit in office all day except have meetings. It allows me to keep my phone charged w/o wearing out my usb port.
Will test it for couple more days ...

It happened once this morning, and repositioning the phone did not help. A reboot of my phone made it work again.

FWIW, I checked the amazon reviews on fakespot and it gave it a poor grade, couple of reviewers are suspect with giving too many positive reviews. I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger on getting one now.
I am bothered too with those fake reviews so I always go to the one with more reviews first, which is Nillkin. Unfortunately the one I tried first did not work at all.
Good thing is you can return it for free. Amazon Prime, I love it!

Wanted to check if anybody has had good experience with any of the qi-cases for 5T (or if not cases, at least qi receivers).
Hopefully something came up in the last year or so since the last post.
Yes, I did spend quite a few hours google-ing this but was not available to find anything.
When no qi-cases for 5T are available on the market - can anybody recommend a qi-receiver with usb-c that could be combined with a magnet system for car holders (like Nilkin: nillkin.org/accessories/chargers/nillkin )?
Are there any 5T cases with a magnet in the case itself which could be used with a universal qi-receiver?
Does anybody have a practical experience with a magnet ring or quadratic magnet like nilkins on the inner side or the outer side of any normal 5T case ? If so, which ("normal" 5Tcase was that?
Thanks for any and all help you could give me.
Regards,
Pavana
Hi Pavana,
I don't have a positive answer for your query. But if the need of having a magnetic cover is because you need hang your phone in the car, perhaps you can consider to use a qi charger on your car.
I have been using this for 10 months now. While it is slow in charging (barely maintains the level of charge if I use navigation+sportiy at the same time), it works with many cases, even this one.
