[Q] Anyone else have broken wireless charging? Help me out. - T-Mobile LG G4

Hey guys.
I bought one of those NewWisdom stickers and it worked like a charm..... for a week. Then it would sit on the charger, show charging for a second, and then it would "disconnect". I am using multiple Tylt's and other chargers that I know work, but this error happened.
I read that the little stickers can be crappy and go bad, so I asked for a warranty replacement. I got a new one, installed it, and bam, same issue right away.
Is it more likely that I got 2 faulty charging stickers? Or that something is wrong on the inside of the phone?

I know you've posted on the threads re: the sticker.
Re: breakdown of the charging, I think the most relevant thread re: this is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/qi-stopped-t3176818
Though lots of reports here too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/wireless-charging-meltdowns-t3163156
Are you saying that right after the new sticker install, it never worked? Or it worked, then stopped?
It's becoming a widespread issue. Not everyone, but A LOT of folks.
My personal opinion, based on my observations on 2 phones using an OEM charging back, with a new sticker as a backup checker, is it is a hardware issue within the phone. Or perhaps some software issue tied into the hardware.

Thanks for the links. The Additional information helps.
I posted to see what sticker was best and if anyone had one die on them. Seems that this is common enough. I hadn't posted this exact question before.
The new one i bought never worked. I know the pins are lined up and I even padded the back of them a little. My QI pads all show a green light, then a red light. Makes me think the sticker works just fine, but the inside of the phone is FUBARed.
I want to like this phone, i really do.

yeah i use cheap china 5 dollar qi pad with g3 few weeks and wierless charging gone...

Hahah, me too! The camera, if you don't get one with a pink tinge overlay, is fantastic! The iffy touchscreen issues are fixed with the 10N update!
The fact the wireless charging capability keeps breaking down as a hardware issue is ridiculous though.
I may post a poll to see if anyone has managed to keep their charging ability >1 month. Maybe when more time passes, as the phone is still quite new.

Just to let people know... I got a replacement today and the back that didn't work on my current phone works perfectly on the new one. For some reason... This issue is tied to the phone and not the stickers coming out.
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

Yup there's definitely a faulty part in these phones.
Let us know how long the wireless charging lasts on this one.

Just a note, my wireless charging also stopped. It was a sticker I put on the original back. Just figured i'd screw with it later and that it probably wasn't making good contact so I picked up a regular wireless circle case to use in the meantime and it's also not charging. Likely something in the phone but I have no idea where to start. Oh well, that month of wireless charging was nice again. (and yes, I've tried different chargers that I know work, etc. Hah!)

Going strong for 4 weeks and still charging(with three different QI chargers and two different stickers). Possible cheap quality chargers are blowing out the hardware?

Always a thought, but I use the OEM original Samsung Qi charger, which has done fine with my S4 for years.

For any who have tried wireless charging, I have a poll and questionnaire re: your experience. Would greatly appreciate your input.

Picking Up Some Palm Touchstones

So the other day I decided to read up on the wireless charging dock. It seems that Google is taking inspiration from the Palm Touchstone. So I wondered if they would be cross compatible. I checked Amazon and found them for under 10 dollars, so I picked one up just for the hell of it. If it works, great. If it doesn't then oh well, I wasted 10 bucks.
I was wondering if anyone did the same thing

This is a really interesting idea... I would like to hear if this would work from someone more experienced with inductive charging!
If it uses the Qi standard then yes it will work
doubtful
I've posted this previously but I am sorta doubting it will work. I can't find anywhere that says the touchstone supports Qi. I looked at the Qi low power spec document and the ifixit teardown of the touchstone and it seems the primary coil geometries are fairly different. I definitely can't say for sure it won't based on just that but it leads me to wait until someone tests it. Phil over at android central has a nexus 4 now for review and has ordered a touchstone so he can test it. I'll wait until he does before I personally pull the trigger. I really hope I'm wrong though because at those prices I'd probably buy a bunch of them and have them all over the house and office!
the qi spec also requires a 175kHz "digital ping" to ensure a good connection between the receiver and the transmitter; of course not knowing what palm did doesn't help but it's more evidence that it won't be as simple as get it near and it should send energy. I was initially thinking it might work with a bit less efficiency as long as the primary coil operated in the 110-205 kHz range allowed by Qi, but the digital ping has me even less encouraged.
Save your money, a Googler on another forum (I think it was androidtalk) said he tried it and didnt work
The willingness to take one for the team is certainly appreciated, though.
I picked a couple up just in case, but after looking into it further i dont think it'll work
I figure worst case the touchstones are a nice enough magnetic desk "dock" (mainly to hold the phone, not connectivity) so no great loss
Kinda disappointed that it won't work. Oh well, maybe I can find another use for the touchstone.
Why it won't work? The palm touchstone is being used with modified s3 and others I'm sure I've read it use the Qi 2009 standards...

I have a few HP Touchstone inductive charging units from my Touch Pad tablet, might those work? Are they different from the Palm units?
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I have a BNIB HP Touchpad Touchstome charger, would be great if it works
I also snapped one up for £5 hoping they might work. Sucks that they apparently don't
If these are working on modded S3s, surely they can work on the Nexus 4?
Even if it doesn't work it'll make a great bed side phone stand. If it at least holds the phone in place it may well be worth it regardless.
Yeah, these things are so cheap, that the shipping is more expensive.
Check out page 24 of 30 on the first link about their research. Second link was members talking about Touchstone's frequency. I went and canceled 2 of my Touchstones order. So both devices have to matched frequency to have inductive charging. There is a high chance that Google inductive charging device doesn't match with Touchstone's frequency.

https://developer.palm.com/distribution/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=11227
Edit: It has been confirmed by Androidcentral's Admin that Touchstone will NOT work with Nexus 4.
Confrmed by android central. this will not work.

[Q] Galaxy note charging issue - replaced charging port but still not fixed. help

Hi All,
I have read other threads and can not find answer so that is why i am creating this thread.
basic things to know...
1. Got my Galaxy Note (GN) off ebay. It came with the following major issue: "cannot be charged via laptop's usb port or wall socket"
2. GN does not have a custom rom. It is unlocked to any network. So, i am assuming it has a "stock rom". can someone tell me how to verify that?
3. I looked into various threads and ultimately decided to replace my usb charging port.
4. I should mention that before any replacement of parts whatsoever, i could see my device on windows and transfer files etc. via usb connection.
5. before and after replacement, it says its "charging" but nothing gets charged. If anything the battery level goes down. This suggests to me that there is an issue with charging circuitry somewhere? anyone can shed light on it?
6. Currently i am using an external charger to charge up my battery. Battery is fine as it gets charged up, just fine.
7. What other options do i have to find out the solution to my charging issues. Anything i can do to narrow down the issue further?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ebay is your best friend. You can change the charging usb port for less than 10 dollars. I bought mine from chinese supplier. The board cost me less than 9 dollars, shipped. It came within 2 weeks. You must open up your phone (8 tiny screws- see youtube video on how to open up n7000). The board comes out easily. You must check the revision on the usb port. Mine is 1.0. It also comes in 0.0, 0.8 and 2.0. I got the exact one with matching colors as the original part. I saw the same board in different revisions and with different colored boards. I got the same exact one, looking at the ebay picture. I was able to change my board in less than 10 minutes. problem solved.

I have already changed the usb port and the problem persists.
How much of an issue will it be if the revision number do not match up with original one?
i dont have tools infront of me so i cant check whether there is a direct match or not.
thanks for reply.

I think matching the revision is important. you must have your original part to verify which was the original revision. I have seen on threads where the revision was not matched and the part didn't help solve the problem.

Check if U607 and R619 are good, they are on the main board.
Download service manual to identify those parts and first check for bad solder joint.
I hqve the same priblem but i didnt check the part numbers gunna have a look for them now. In all honesty i thought it wouldnt matter as they may have been all the exact same

Whoah, seriously? Seems kinda like overkill. What I've heard most is having to hold the cable in 'just' the right position for it to charge, which doesn' t sound like a mainboard issue, since the charge port is connected via a ribbon block (and an antenna cable).
What's odd is that the charge port board on mine has this problem, but it is ROCK SOLID and the connector blade inside is totally clean. Pushing the plug down towards the back of the phone would, based on the physical layout of the internal USB pins, if anything, REDUCE contact pressure. It seems like this is a non-permanent problem and I SWEAR I saw an amazon post somewhere where a guy describes a simple physical mod that suddenly lets all normal charges work fine. Just can't find it...
I have a Samsung Note 2, same thing...not charging through the port, battery is good, charger is good, changed the charge port circuit and nothing...re installed the operating system, it's unlocked, rooted..works fine as long as I charge the battery externally...I have no idea what to do or which direction to go...any help...and I'll keep everyone posted as to the results of any suggestions...goo part is...I know how to get the thing apart....Blessings, As Always...
Same here - changed micro usb board and still not charging
Hi
I have the same problem. Have samd=sung galaxy note N7000 and suddenly stopped charging.
I changed the micro-usb port - it is the same version as the one inside. The mobile is still not charging! :crying:
Has anyone found a solution to this ?
even stranger
Have just noticed that the mobile charges fine in the car with the charger that originally caused the problem.
However it will charge with nothing else - neither USB port of PC not directly to wall socket.
Could the car charger have set it to charge at a higher voltage?

Hi all,
Sorry to revive an ageing thread but this still seems to be an issue at large.
I have a question:
I am a little confused. After seeing a number of these charge port PCB's on Ebay, some sellers are saying only for Rev 0.8 and others say nothing at all, yet in ALL the images from numerous sellers, the PCB's have Rev 1.0 written on them including my own N7000's charge port PCB.
Please could someone enlighten me?
Many thanks!
changed usb port after charging probs
Hi there,
I am having the same damn problem. After having charging probs and a loose connection, I decided to buy a new usb port and everything should be fine again. After replacing the port i tried to charge before installing the back case part and everything worked! But after putting the phone back into the case it went back to the problem like before replacing the port. It is loose and i cant get a pc connection to work.
So after disassembling it several times and reading forum posts in several boards i found this thread which has not the answer for the problem but some suggestions what could cause the problem.
I think it is not worth it to change the Motherboard too but if someone could test it that would help I think.
In another board someone wrote he had 3 port boards bought and they were all dead on arrival. So i believe this could also be the problem what do you think? Did anyone try different replacement parts from different shops?
And is yours charging if you do not install the backplate/backcase?
where did you buy the port? and is it same revision that was in their.
I think a new cable (proper quality) fixes it
that or pc driver reinstall

Hello,
Got a similar problem. Samsung note 1 (n7000) wasn't charging the battery. Holding the mini usb down was the trick.
I bought a new charging port and replaced it. The thing....it is charging now...but giving me: Emergency calls only!
Send back that part and got it replaced.... Just installed it and again: Emergency calls only...
It does show that it has reception. It's not due to my carrier as sim in another phone is working ok. Replacing the old part solves the problem.
If anyone has an idea how to solve this problem.....PLEASE let me know.

the speaker is attached to the plastic cover on top of the usb port. it is not making contact with the right points.
try it whilst the phone is on, play a audio or video file and hold down that part with your fingers. u will see that it will work.
meaning that the screws are either loose or too tight and not properly aligned.

Does anyone know if this is normal

I'm using the charger that came with the phone. I also noticed my phone discharges while charging sometimes. Is this normal? I didn't wanna make another thread for another question so here I go, auto brightness has my phone at 100% regardless of lighting, is that normal?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Both circumstances definitely not normal.
There seem to be serious QA issues with the genuine HTC chargers recently. Both myself and my wife have been through several in the last year. They just don't seem to be as reliable as they used to be and I've given up buying them. If you contact HTC they'll just send you another pup. Try a Samsung/Sony charger. There is nothing special about one charger or another, other than the having the data pins shorted out so the phone knows it's plugged into a wall charger and not a PC, and rated current output. Avoid un-branded cheaper ones as these do not have decent voltage regulation or smoothing, and do not need to meet the same standards for manufacture. These CAN cause damage to your phone. I have used a Sony charger for the last few months on HTC phones without issue. I use my friend's Samsung charger whenever I go over to his house without any issues too. Just make sure the charger you pick can handle the current output that your HTC charger states.
Auto-brightness stuck is also not normal. I take it you have tried manually toggling it, and I factory reset? Are you unlocked/rooted? A bad kernel flash perhaps?
If you've tried all this and it's still stuck, look to see if you have a faulty light sensor. Download an app called Elixir 2. You can check all phone's sensors from there. Select the light sensor, then cover and un-cover the sensor and check you can see the light values changing.

Would I be okay in buying a note 2 charger for my phone I know it pumps out 2amps instead of 1. I'm fully stock and I downloaded elixr 2 and it shows my light sensor works fine. I just have to manually uncheck the auto setting for some weird reason to get it to work.

It should not be getting hot for average use. Gaming maybe, but web browsing and navigating menus definitely not. I seem to remember my One X suffered this in early firmware versions. Later versions fixed it. Which version are you on? Have you had the 1.29 update yet?
I know factory resets are a pain, but it will be the first thing HTC ask you to do before sending it back for replacement, so it's best to to get it out the way if you are already on 1.29. Failing that you can put your faith in the good people here to provide a kernel and base that solves any heating issues. That is what I did, sacrificing my warranty knowing I have phone insurance should the worst happen.

[answered]Not charging via pogo pins

My dock has been charging my phone perfectly for weeks, the other day I came in and plopped the phone on the dock and nothing.
I checked the pogo pins (of the dock) with a multimeter, they are working. I've tried different power sources for the dock as well (wall adapter, pc, other cables).
I've checked to make sure the pins are making contact with the phone, good solid contact.
I haven't changed anything on the phone recently, any suggestions?
The phone charges fine through USB.
[ANSWERED]
since i apparently posted this on the apple forums instead of xda, all the replies were "shoulda bought apple products"
so anyone having this problem, i solved it by reinstalling a nand backup. apparently it was a software issue. hopefully this saves you from the apple fanboys.
do you have original sony cradle? i had chinese replica and it did not work all times.

No, I was too impatient for it and got the goosewhite dock, besides I like the looks of it better tbh. The dock is putting out power, I don't get why it's not charging. its not a complex system at all.
Get the Sony one if you don't want the same issue occurring.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
why would changing the dock have anything to do with the problem? when voltage is applied to the pogo pins, the phone does not charge. how would changing the dock i use make a difference in that at all?
i would understand if the pogo pins were putting out less power or no power, but they put in exactly the amount of power going into the dock, they make good solid contact, i've check continuity and its making a solid connection...
Then take the dock apart and see if anything got loose

Because the one you've bought is rubbish!
I brought this as an alternative to the Sony DK26 because I was sick of opening the flap everytime I wanted to charge my phone. It does fit the Xperia Z and looks nice enough. It also activates the dock mode and the Xperia's smart connect function. This is why I gave it 1 star. HOWEVER, it outputs at 500mA as opposed to the 1800mA delivered by the Sony dock. This means it charges your phone incredibly slowly. I had my phone on the dock charging for 11 Hours and it managed to deliver a battery charge of just 51% which is ridiculous compared to the Sony charger which delivers a 100% charge in 2 hours.

I do not get why would anyone go for something cheaper and unreliable. Its like those iPhone users buying cheap non original cables to charge their iPhones, ended up causing the phone to blow up or messed up and blames it on Apple.
and yes you are the owner of the phone and you have the right to buy whatever 3rd party equipment for your phone, but dont expect it to work 100%.
Doesnt make sense if you ask me sir.
It is really hard to determine the main cause of this matter. It could be your phone: hardware or software (i doubt it is this one), or the 3rd party dock.
You tell me which one to throw and buy a new one.
Already told you why I bought it. There's nothing but stupidity in that review as docks do not put out power, they transfer it, the power supply puts out power. As for the amperage, it puts out what you put in. it will do [email protected] if you are stupid enough to put that through it... Assuming the wires don't burn. if you are going to base your assumptions on a review, at least choose one from someone knowledgeable. also, my dock never took 11 hours to charge, not that i ever bothered timing it but it sure as hell wasnt more than 4 hours (and thats giving an a good bit of a safety margin), i'd guess 2 hours 0-100 if i had to.
What I'm telling you is that the phone is not accepting the charge, not that the dock is messed up but the phone. And I wanted to know if anyone had similar issues or suggestions.
I'm glad you have insight on the matter and an opinion, however you are not trying to answer the question. I've already informed you the dock is intact and making a connection. I've checked the voltage of the xperia official charger at the cable at its end: 4v dc, the dock when hooked to that charger is 4v dc tested at the pins. I can put a larger amount through it, and any number of amps. A pogo dock is a very simple device, official or otherwise, the difference is mainly in price and design. The diy thread is a perfect example of that.
@LitoNi
I took it apart, nothing is loose. thanks

Recommendation for wireless charger receiver?

I have been using Samsung Galaxy S6 for two and half years, and I am about to switching to 5T.
I wonder anybody has a recommendation for wireless charging receiver -- the thin tap that sticks to the back of your phone. I tried some of them, including the name brand Nillkin, on my other phone (Le Pro 3) and found out that the battery will start to drain after being charged to full. Hence I wonder if oneplus has such problems or not.
Thanks.
No support for wireless charger on OP.

that wasnt his q. i dont know that anyone has had a chance to try one to make a recommendation. i suppose any usb c receiver that is qi compatible will work. maybe you can find one that supports quick charge.
I don't know if anybody tried the nillkin wireless charging case for oneplus5. I hope they can make one for 5t as well. I can't leave wireless charging now.
I have Oneplus 5 magic case with car magnetic charger and it work perfectly. I wrote e-mail to [email protected] and got feedback - similar case for 5t would be available soon.
Just want to have an update. Returned the Nillkin receiver, got another one, Tankship. Surprisingly this less popular one works. Used for over 24 hours, and was able to charge my phone to 100%. Of course, charging is slow, which is expected. But I sit in office all day except have meetings. It allows me to keep my phone charged w/o wearing out my usb port.
Will test it for couple more days ...

Got a link by chance, please?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075HVQX6Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Noticed one other issue, sometime my samsumg charger pad shows it is working, but the phone is not being charged (charging light is off but battery level goes down).
It happened once this morning, and repositioning the phone did not help. A reboot of my phone made it work again.

FWIW, I checked the amazon reviews on fakespot and it gave it a poor grade, couple of reviewers are suspect with giving too many positive reviews. I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger on getting one now.
I am bothered too with those fake reviews so I always go to the one with more reviews first, which is Nillkin. Unfortunately the one I tried first did not work at all.
Good thing is you can return it for free. Amazon Prime, I love it!

Wanted to check if anybody has had good experience with any of the qi-cases for 5T (or if not cases, at least qi receivers).
Hopefully something came up in the last year or so since the last post.
Yes, I did spend quite a few hours google-ing this but was not available to find anything.
When no qi-cases for 5T are available on the market - can anybody recommend a qi-receiver with usb-c that could be combined with a magnet system for car holders (like Nilkin: nillkin.org/accessories/chargers/nillkin )?
Are there any 5T cases with a magnet in the case itself which could be used with a universal qi-receiver?
Does anybody have a practical experience with a magnet ring or quadratic magnet like nilkins on the inner side or the outer side of any normal 5T case ? If so, which ("normal" 5Tcase was that?
Thanks for any and all help you could give me.
Regards,
Pavana
Hi Pavana,
I don't have a positive answer for your query. But if the need of having a magnetic cover is because you need hang your phone in the car, perhaps you can consider to use a qi charger on your car.
I have been using this for 10 months now. While it is slow in charging (barely maintains the level of charge if I use navigation+sportiy at the same time), it works with many cases, even this one.
