Can we simulate a bluetooth button press? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Google Now can send and receive audio through our Gear. AutoVoice for Tasker can receive voice commands from our Gear as well! This opens up many possibilities! Both programs can be activated with the standard bluetooth button on your everyday headset.. is it possible to simulate this button on our gear? I am thinking our media control program works by simulating hard headset button presses. A program would be fine, but a widget would be ideal! TIA!
Another question. Is a bluetooth headset limited to these 6 button functions? Play/pause, skip, back, volume +/-, and the standard button mentioned above? If not, we can take Tasker automation from gear even further!

i hope for this
..

I've looked into some apps on play store, but nothing seems to work. Can't find any other examples where a headset is actually running android in order to utilise button in this way

brendo now rooted gear and install all, try if Utter or Klets work

This is all I need for a perfect gear !
I have searched ALL day to figure this out, although no luck sadly.
Best way of doing this would have to be using a plugin for tasker, just like atooma uses.
EDIT: We need to figure out how exactly the gear communicates with the phone, if we can manually send a request from the gear to the phone. We could setup a intent listener on tasker and it could execute tasks.
Maybe someone should speak with the dev's of gear getter ? Or ATN ? Figure out how they communicate with the gear ?

Got Google Voice to work from Gear
With Google search 3.1 all you have to do is say "Okay Google". This works for me.
To Launch Google Search from Gear
1) Set Up to recieve Google Notification
2) Open a Google Notification
3) Press Show On Device. This will launch Google Voice Search
4) Say "Okay Google".
Make sure you have "Record Audio through Bluetooth headset if available" checked in Google Voice. Only issue is that if Phone locks. Maybe someone can find a way to get a shortcut for "Show On Device".

See thread null Rom!
Wonderful!

I'm reviving this thread because I've been searching for this exact thing, and I can't believe it's so difficult - has anyone found a solution? I can't find vingar's "null rom" thread he refers to above as a solution. Any info is very welcome.

I too find it difficult to swallow that a solution has not been found. I am a little late to the "gear party" (only having mine for a few weeks now) and have been searching for a solution to this.
I believe Vingar's solutions is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47519892#post47519892
I have found a few apps that may help with this but none that directly address what I am looking for....namely a widget on the home screen of my gear that simply sends the correct keycode to my phone via BT.

That's it exactly. I have no programming talents, but this seems like such a simple - and powerful - solution, not least because it would allow Google Now voice inputs. And the watch is already a BT device, an also an android device. Frankly it's absurd that this wasn't included stock.

How to make the Galaxy gear launch an app on the phone?

I created an automate task to kill S voice and to launch Google Now. This helps me use the active listening wake up command feature on my note 3 to use Google now like the Moto X does. https://db.tt/X7LZSrzR
Does anyone know of a way to make the Galaxy gear button launch S voice on the phone? I'm thinking that combination would allow for Google now use from the watch since the audio would be both sent and received from the watch itself via bluetooth.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
by default the svoice is launched by double pressing the power button
but you can change it worth any other app from the gear manager

The problem is that will only launch S voice on the Galaxy Gear which has limited features. I'm looking to make it launch S voice on the phone.

I'm still racking my brain trying to find a way. The best I've come up with so far is kinda blah but it works. I installed the eBay for gear app and assigned it to the gear button after a double press. The eBay app opens and you click the view on phone button. I created a automateit app task to kill eBay when it opens and to launch Google now instead. It would work a little better if I could get it to launch voice search instead of google now and then saying google to start the search but that is not an option in automateit. I can't figure out how to use tasker to save my life lol. The audio for Google now is played through the galaxy gear via Bluetooth. It's 3 button presses and you lose the eBay app on your phone to do this though
that's great news
hope some of the devs will jump in and help you
keep up the good work

I too would LOVE to see Full S-Voice or Google Search/Google Now on the Galaxy Gear. That was the only reason that I spent 2 days trying to get the Null rom to work but couldn't. After rooting, I could never get the custom recovery to work. Everytime I tried to boot into recovery the watch would reset itself back to the default settings and I would have to reload everything all over again. After that happened over a dozen time I just gave up.
If anyone figures out a simpler way to get Google Voice Search working on the Gear please let me know...that's all I want, and the Null roms are a long tedious way of doing it for just that one function!

Installing null takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish so not sure how long it is taking you to make it long and tedious.
As far as the constant resetting issue you had, I can only imagine you never read the OP for installing TWRP because that issue is addressed in bold.
You might want to actually read the OP for 3 minutes before wasting hours of your time from not following directions and eventually end up breaking something.

Hey StaticMatt,
Thanks for the reply. However, I don't know if you install roms for a living or what...but my understanding is that to install the Null roms you first off have to root the Gear, and unless you already have the drivers, the .tar file...etc. that can take time to dl, extract, install, etc.
Then, a custom recovery has to be flashed (along with SU, which never worked either due to errors in MobileGo which you'll also need unless using ADB, in which case you'll need that, in order to push the apps). THEN and only THEN are you ready to install Null!
Although I'm not even close to an expert, I'm also not a NOOB either. I have 2 guides that I followed EXACTLY and neither worked, so with that along with the constant resets, it took a lot longer than 5 minutes for all 3 procedures!
I'll check the info I have against the instructions/guide here in this forum and maybe try it again when I have more time, but if you were trying to say that the info here is better/more precise than maybe YouTube videos then why not just say it? But don't insult me as if I haven't done any homework first. I have 7 Android devices (6 of them I've rooted). I've been on Android since the start and I am very aware of the risks of bricking so I never take such procedures "lightly."
Hopefully, once trying it again, someone else will come to my aid with some actual "help" if I get stuck, instead of attitude and sarcasm. But thanks again at least for the reply.
Questions (regarding the Null roms on the Galaxy Gear):
* First off, I apologize if any of these questions have already been answered but...
1.) I noticed that everyone that is running Null on their Gear has a watch face that looks more like a phone home screen than an actual watch. So does the gear have to look like that when running this rom, or can one still run apps like Watch Styler and still have "full screen" watch faces without the 4 little apps buttons at the bottom of the face?
2.) Once running Null can you set the double-tap launch app to Google Search using the Gear Manager? This is really my main goal. I'd simply like to be able to double-tap my watch button and give Google Search my voice commands, so I don't want to find out after hacking that you can't set it up that way for some reason.
3.) When on Null, can you still have all the same Gear functions like the Media Controller, Notifications, Pedometer, Voice Memo, etc. or would I then have to run all full apps like Google Music, PowerAmp, etc.?
4.) Lastly, how easy is it to revert back to stock if not liking Null? Would I have to reflash the stock image, and if so, how in depth is that process? I'm guessing that I would just open Odin and reflash the one file, but I'd like someone to confirm that please if you don't mind.
Modding this watch seems a bit different than all the phones that I've modded with custom roms (i.e. even the way apps are loaded is quite different in that you can't just attach to a PC via USB and simply drag & drop anymore. It's now all Wondershare MobileGo or ADB and all).
Thanks.

1) these 4 little icons is the dock. most of us are using nova launcher, i personally disabled the dock because it's not necesarry to keep these items on top all the time.
2) i'm not sure if that is possible. perhaps if you don't use nova launcher but something else, you can keep the double tap shortcut. mine is set to power on/power off the screen.
3) you can use 'stock' apps with no issues. i'm using pedometer, notifications and media controller. for the rest i found a replacement apps.
4) i never done it, but it will be 'as easy' as putting custom rom on it. but frankly.. there is no reason not to have null. you can keep null rom and just use stock launcher if that's your liking..

Thanks so much Hurdlejade! I really appreciate your response. It's also good to know that what I'm ultimately trying to do with Null may not even be possible (setting double-tap to Google Search/Google Now). I wish the Galaxy Gear version of S-Voice was much better!!!
I really want to be able to invoke Google Now with a double-tap as well, but have had no luck so far.
An alternative that I'm using that is also very convenient is to assign Google Now to one of the long-press button on UDN.
It's more difficult to invoke if you aren't in a situation where you can easily perform the swiping (like driving), but it beats having to scroll through home screens or the app drawer to get to it.

Currently no. If someone can remove the Google Play Licensing Validation, then we could push Tasker. There's an apk called "Lucky Patcher" that removes those sort of validations from apps (probably not legal in the slightest). However, Tasker is one of few that are considerably hard to emulate a paid purchase, causing Lucky Patcher to have no effect. So, no, not currently, but I'm working on removing that restriction and testing.

You're phone, by default, should detect your watch as a media headset or something similar. So, you should be able to use your watch in AutoVoice/Tasker on your phone as a microphone

Autoremote without bluetooth tethering?

Hello,
Is there anyway to get Autoremote to work directly with the Note 3 over bluetooth and not require internet? I'm sure I"m missing something? thanks.
You need internet first to register device in autoremote
After that, you only need standard Bluetooth connection to send commands
@Brendo my bluetooth autoremote seems to work fine.
However if I try to send a notification (not a quick message) via bluetooth it doesn't seem to get received on the gear
Please try and let me know if you can send and receive a NOTIFICATION thanks

Stock notifications aren't available on the gear. You can get the pull down bar in null rom, but even then I don't think it works with all apps. I've not tested though. If you mean the notifications like standard way that gear manager sends notifications, we really need an sdk to work out how to utilize that (there are workarounds where some apps used existing channels)

No, perhaps you misunderstood,
if you go into the autoremote app and select "devices" then there is a small envelope on the right as well as a triangle - these are used to send quick messages and notifications ( by autoremote app )
I can send the message, but not the notification by bluetooth..... however notificatio does work fine by wifi and it gets received by the gear no problem

I understand now. I had a look sending notification via plugin in tasker - which is the same, but didn't realise how notification was sent. Sounds like message uses direct Bluetooth where as notification routes through wifi. Sounds like you'll need to check with dev (may be a bug or unfinished since Bluetooth is recent addition to app?)
I ve got the same problème when i has was in theter i Can send command but without theter the command don t work.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one not able to get this working. I've trying for a week now and everything I found made me feel like I was doing something wrong.
The one thing I've noticed is that when you click and hold the device, and the menu comes up, when I select "connect Bluetooth device, it will say it is connected. But, right after that, it says "not a valid QR code". So I've been wondering if that has anything to do with it.

I've done this and it still doesn't work. Still getting "retrying 1/5" etc. I'm starting to think I must have some other BT connection issue because I've been trying to get the BT GPS sharing working again. It worked a few null roms back but seems to be broken now. I've searched all over the phone and the gear but can't find anything that would be blocking certain BT functions. Everything else works between the phone and the gear (notifications, weather, mini gallery, pedometer backup).

If ON, the icon is blue, if off grey

Yep, tried it multiple ways. Like I said, I think I've got some other connection issue. I even tried the Smart Remote app from the gear store and haven't ever been able to get it to connect either. At first I thought it was due to the null rom but others have said it works for them.
I just have no idea what would allow "selective" connections.
Edit: I just noticed that on the phone, in tasker, it shows as an active profile but in the gear it does not. I even set up a generic profile just to pop up a notification. If I test the action it works but the profile still shows as inactive and in the notification panel it still shows "no active profiles" yet all other functions continue to work. Can someone confirm if this is the same on their gear?

I had the same, initially, it took some time on the Gera with Tasker.
Try switch profile off, then on, save reboot, reconnect and have patience.
Instead of connecting to a "named" connection, leave that bank and choose the optional "bluetooth address" in taker profile state

I use autoremote on the gear over bluetooth and it work well with my note 3.
I have tasker which enable bluetooth in gear and note 3 when they connect them in bluetooth.
It work great until the watch goes in deep sleep. At this time the connection is broken until I reboot. I try to enable persistent notification on the gear when tasker enable autoremote bluetooth (to prevent the service to be killed) but at this time I have another problem, the gear and the phone are not able to go in deep sleep so I have a big battery drain.
If someone have ideas to help I'll be very glad.

I rebooted both phone and gear and the first try was successful. Next attempt back to trying. One thing I noticed was that upon restart both taskers showed the Bluetooth profile as active. After the first test the tasker on my phone now shows inactive. Prior to restart it was the gear that showed inactive.
Either way, this is progress. Now to find out why they aren't staying active.

Now I can't wait to get my home automation setup and working. To control it all from the watch is going to be awesome.
Thanks everybody for your support and ideas.

[Q] Xperia Z3C FM Radio broken?

I can't seem to get the Z3C FM Radio to tune into any frequencies in the UK, just static. All headphones tested worked fine with Z1C.
Anyone else have any luck getting it to work?
Whilst scanning for stations brings up a load of false positives, I can definitely pick up stations such as the BBC ones including the local station, Heart, Classic, etc.
Tested with Etymotic HF5s, RHA MA750s and Sennheiser CX150s.
Strange, I can't get anything at all, no matter what I try it with. Tried factory reset, repair via PC Companion, still just static. I'm guessing I have a faulty unit.
Works fine here too
Works fine in the US
The FM radio works for me, but only while it is in the foreground or while the notification window is pulled down. It doesn't work in the background for me.

I can't seem to get the Z3C FM Radio to tune into any frequencies in the UK, just static. All headphones tested worked fine with Z1C.
Anyone else have any luck getting it to work?

Hi - I am replying a bit late because I just came across this thread while trying to troubleshoot a problem I experienced with the FM Radio this evening, which until now has been functioning perfectly.
This may not be your problem, but I'm going to describe it and a work-around for it, in case others may find this thread later when searching for problems with the Z3/Z3 Compact FM Radio. I hope it helps you, as well.
The problem is apparently due to an unfortunate conflict between the FM Radio app and the Google Now voice-activated search settings ("Ok Google").
The main symptom of the problem is that the FM Radio will not play audio through either the headphones or the speakers. This may be misdiagnosed as a broken radio, or failure to tune any stations, but in reality the radio itself is functioning and stations are being tuned. There is just no sound coming from the speakers or headphones (regardless of the setting of the Headphone/Speaker switch within the FM Radio app).
I discovered the explanation for this problem at the following thread, which deals with the Sony Z2 model, and is claimed, on the thread, to only happen when the Google Experience Launcher (GEL) is used in lieu of Sony's stock launcher. Unfortunately, on my Z3 Compact, the problem is occurring despite the fact that I'm using the stock Sony launcher.
Here is a link to the thread:
http://www.thedroidbot.com/sony-xperia-z2-fm-radio-issue-google-now-launcher-fixed/
Basically, the problem is a conflict between the Google Now service's "Ok Google" voice detection and the FM Radio app. Disabling the service's voice-activation (being able to say "OK Google" to invoke the service in listening mode for verbally stating a query) will restore the FM Radio app's ability to play sound correctly.
To test if this is your problem, try the following steps (the FM Radio app should *not* be active while you do this - use the "Close All" item on the task switcher to make sure the app is not active if you have had it running):
1) Invoke the "Search & Now" settings for Google Services using one of these two methods:
a) Slide up and right from the "Home" icon on the device's bottom center to invoke the Google Now search screen, scroll to the bottom, and tap the "..." menu, and select "Settings"
-or-
b) Run the "Google Settings" app from the installed apps menu screens (or a shortcut, if you have placed one somewhere), and tap the "Search & Now" item
2) Select the "Voice" item
3) Tap the '"Ok Google" Detection' item
4) Uncheck any checked items on this screen ("From Google Search app", "From any screen", "From lock screen")
5) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left of this screen
6) Slide the "Audio History" switch to the Off position
7) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left of this screen
8) Tap the "<" back symbol at the upper left one last time to exit the settings app
9) Test the "FM Radio" app to see if it is now functional - if so, you must either choose between being able to use the FM Radio app or having the ability to invoke the Google Now service by using the "Ok Google" voice phrase (or you must memorize this sequence of steps and repeat them each time you wish to use the FM Radio app, and then re-enable them when you are done with the app).
NOTE: Disabling the voice activation feature of the Google Now service does *not* mean you are giving up the ability to do voice queries within the Google Now service. To do voice queries will simply require you to press the small microphone icon within the service or on the Google Search widget on your device's home screen to activate and place the service into listening mode.

That wasn't the problem in my case, as I could clearly hear radio static just no channels could tune, and also tried it with voice activation off since I'd heard of this conflict too. I returned it and my new one works just fine. Other users may find your detailed description of the other problem useful though, so thanks for posting.

I'd like to thank you for the info. This was exactly the problem with my device. Switching off Google Now fixed it! Now some big fixing updates would be great!

Glad it helped. As far as fixes go, I'm not optimistic since the problem has been around since the Z2 (and I suspect longer), but we'll probably find out sometime early next year when Lollipop is likely to drop for our devices.
Wish there was a good way to get reports like this to the right folks at Sony. There is also a very annoying conflict with this same Google Now feature and the Sony Camera app.

Perfect workaround. Noticed that my radio didn't work. If I selected TrackID I got 3 or 4 seconds of radio then silence again.
THANK YOU!!!! Worked for me!!! Xperia Z Ultra

Xperia Z3 Compact radio also not working. Downloaded another radio app (Simple radio) and bingo! I now have all the radio programmes that I want.

disable OK google listening

Ok I was able disable the OK google and it only listen when I press the mic icon. Now no matter what I do in the google app settings it's always listening. My only current option is to disable microphone permissions which isn't what I want since I can't press the mic icon and speak.
I had it setup on the note8 with android 9 to only listen when the mic icon is pressed. Got the note 9 did the same settings and it still responds when I say OK or hey google.
Currently have the microphone permissions disabled since my phone does NOT need to listen all the time. Is there a setting I am missing?
I had to remove the Google search widget to stop it from always listening. It is stupid that they removed the option to simply turn it off.

Exactly. Disable the "Google" app improve the memory and battery usage, imo
Interesting, I disabled the Google app for about 30 minutes and could not use voice with chrome so turned it back on. The mic permissions are enabled but OK google is now disabled yet I can push the mic icon and use voice for searching again.
So its exactly how I want it but a very strange way to get there. I have no clue how this worked but it did.
Well after a restart and about 20 minutes it went back to listening.
That's odd - it's definitely off on mine, but I can't find where I deactivated it! I use Nova Launcher, and there is an option in the Settings under 'Gestures and Inputs' to disable 'OK Google hotword' - maybe that's how I did it? But 'OK Google' doesn't work anywhere on my Note 9 (did this to save battery and because I have a Google Home & Mini).
EDIT: And I do have the Google App installed.
Not sure what's going on. Google runs me around when I tired to ask them. I know exactly where the setting is and its disabled but still listens for the "OK google "
Personally I would love someone with influence to get attention to this but it seems a little hit or miss on setups so not sure. I have the mic disabled.
I did do a really stupid test if my device was listening and used let's say red flag words to see if anyone was listening. Ironically the words I used are related to an event happening in my city which was horrible timing on my part but semi proved to me no one heard it.

Yes that works. The only thing I don't want is it to disable voice in chrome app which this does.
The settings to disable OK Google are there but don't function and google themselves either don't understand what I am saying or don't want to admit the setting doesn't function as it should.

It's not easy to find the option to turn off the Google assistant, but it's there.
Settings > apps > (three dots menu) default apps > device assistance app
You'll want to change "device assistance app" to "none" and then "voice input" to "Google". The you should be all set.
To go a step further, you can disable the Google assistant from running at all on your device.
Google app > "more" (lower right hand corner) > settings > Google assistant > assistant
Then, at the bottom you should see "assistant devices" with "phone" listed. Select phone and then toggle Google assistant off.
This should do the trick.

I was able to do the first part of device assistant app to none. The voice input option doesn't allow me to pick just google option.
Either way this has solved my issue and is now working they I want it to. Going to try a restart and see if it persists unlike my previous attempt.
Thanks again for finding this.
I like having the search widget and be able to type or voice input my search if I don't know how to spell something. With all the news of companies admitting they listen and record voice stuff having my device always listening is very unsettling. I guess it's a little paranoid but I live in a bad part of my city and I really don't want to be red flag because I walked by a drug deal which happens all to often.
That's strange, because that exactly what it should do when you disable Voice Match, since it is said that's it's actually the "anywhere OK Google listening".
Try deleting your voice imprint on the same setting page too maybe.
I wonder why is working fine on my phone and not on others.

I have no saved voice imprint saved. At least someone was able to find a work around that was a to do what I wanted.
