Hi all,
I will admit I have flashed the phone about 4 times in the past 2 weeks (different roms) due to other issues but now when the battery indicator shows 40% which is rite it shuts the phone down suddenly and says battery empty even though it still shows 40%!!! I can even plug the charger in and it will charge from 40% not 0. It did not used to do this.
This problem has affected 2 (cyanogen & stock LG!) of the 4 roms I have tried now so its not a rom issue and the phone was fully and properly formatted before flashing the new roms.
Even when booting back up it lasts a minute and does the same. Battery drain is not fast and all works fine until it goes below half.
I have wiped catche, battery stats & Dalvik catche many times when 100% charged but makes no difference.
Baseband is correct also.
I really need help as its unusable having 60% of the battery usable.
Anyone got any ideas before I sell it for parts ??
Thanks

do you have problems with battery before you installed anyone ROM?
and maybe isnt problem in ROM maybe battery making problem
Are you using the kernel that comes with each of the roms or are you using a custom kernel such as pengus' kowalski kernel? I know pengus implemented a new battery driver that has been known to cause other people similar problems.

I have had battery problems plague me for the last month, regardless of flashing, reverting to stock etc.
The following data is compared to my friends captivate, who is running the same setup as I am Continuum 3.11 and Speedmod k13c. He currently gets at least 24 hours on a full charge (thats WITH gaming and calls etc.). I can barely scrape 10 on minimum use.
At first I thought it was a rogue app that was constantly draining, but unfortunately it was not (after several trials and monitoring apps).
Next, i tried reflashing, Master clearing + flash from stock, flash at 100% charge, but still nothing.
Next thing I tried was to see if it was my battery was faulty (doubted it because it was new from original phone. Only had it for 2 months) by swapping batteries with my friends Captivate (also original battery). I concluded that this was not the problem since he was getting great battery life (if not better since mine is newer) and I was still draining.
After, I tried battery stats wiping, recalibration (bump charging) flash to stock and flash to a rom with reportedly good battery, with k13C speedmod. Still bad results.
So heres my current situation: I am running Continuum 3.11 with speedmod k13c. I have tried almost everything in my arsenal and googling but I have come back empty handed. It is NOT the battery, rogue app draining OR rom/kernal. I am completely stumped.
Heres a summary/extra details of my trials:
-Flash to stock and try again
-change batteries
-wipe stats, drain and recharge, charge for 8 hours, bump charge (recalibration), flash from 100%, master clearing etc.
- setting brightness to lowest, wifi off, plane mode when turning back on
- being anal and not installing new apps / using what rom came with
- My phone remains ice cold on standby. I know that when it gets hot, it drains (during standby and etc. but this time its ice cold)
- Here is some data: In one hour of minimal use (checking texts, replying etc.) I lose 10%. overnight I lose around 20%. In a heavy usage, 4 hours.
(note : I know that some of you might consider that barely passable battery life, but if I directly compare to the set up of my friend, its not right since in heavy usage he gets about 12 hours, which is my max per charge on minimal use)
Im hoping someone can help me with this problem, because I believe that this problem is plaguing other peoples phones as well, not just mine.

This one
And this one of course
EDIT:
I recently swapped batteries again with my friend, because I recall fixing it at one point, but I had to reflash it due to a bug or something, i dont remember. But when we swapped batteries and swapped back, I seem to have fixed it. This leads me to believe that My phone right now has no idea where 100% actually is and its only charging to some random % that is NOT 100% .
This time, I swapped with him when he had 47 percent, and I had 87. After we swapped, we immediately checked the percentages. To my surprise, his 47% on my phone immediately turned to 23% But strangely, that 23% remained (the charge on 23 seemed to be holding for quite a while). But when I recharge, it charges WAY too fast (10 minutes of charging = 40% in total from 23%? B.S.!!!)

I guess thats happen when you flash new rom or kernel or modem...you need to wipe battery stats to fix that....

I wish it were that simple =( I already tried that via recovery. Unless the recovery method is bugged and not actually wiping the stats. I will manually delete the battery stats and retry, but I dont think it will work.
im just reporting back that manual battery stats wipe did not work =( Any help please? I am absolutely stumped
sorry to triple post but I thought I should ask something else:
Would extracting the batterystats.bin from another captivate and using that one work? (assuming i set permissions correctly)
hello,
i've had my SGS for a little over a week now. from day one i noticed battery drain but i thought it was normal for a new device. i flashed darky's 10.1 extreme on the second day i got it because it was very slow and had a lot of bloatware ( i wasnt very patient and i flashed at 95% or 96% battery), the drain was still there. i let it go through a few recharge discharge cycles and no improvement, so i used an app from the market called "batterycalibration" by marosige, no improvement and it the reading would drop to 99% or 98% after taking it off the charger.
i did a little digging and discovered i had the android os bug (was over 50% usage usually) so i used titanium to wipe software update and samsung account, and froze the first, didnt help by much
i then flashed darky's again at 100%, and now it still reads full charge after removing charger and android os bug i gone (reads 4% system and 4% os), but drain was still there. i emptied it to the point it couldnt turn on anymore then charged it from wall charger while turned off to 100% while i slept
i woke up and tested it by playing a game (Blastmonkeys) for like 20 mins and the battery went down to 90%, that was less than 2 hours ago, and now its at 87% and it was completely idle
notes:
my brightness is turned all the way down with no animations but display reads 54%, wifi is usually on when im home but battery stats show 6% wifi so i dont think its a big problem
also, the device was bought locked in france by someone else and im in egypt, so i dont know anything about warranty..
im sorry for the long post but i tried to be as detailed as possible...
hello, when i upgraded my sgs to 2.3.3 i also got battery drain and android os was consuming hell lot of cpu about 70%,..,.,then i flashed 2.3.4 jvp i didnt get any battery drain in that firmware then i upgraded it to 2.3.4 jvq this also donot have ny battery drain..,,.i recommend u to flash it and try it once
will try, but isnt darky only compatible with JVH? what happens if i change to JVQ?

see jvp and jvq are bug fixing firmwares and i didnt use any custom rom ,..,i have stock firmware which i just rooted and didnt use any mod or rom.,,.,.jvp and jvq are stable roms diffrence between the both is that in jvq browser is improved gallery improvement,.,..,etc
As far as I know, the percentage not being 100% after unplugging is normal. To prevent wear on the battery, the phone cuts the charger after reaching 100%, and restarts charging when it reaches ~95%.
I don't think a 3% drop in battery over 2 hours is uncommon. Wifi and data connection will pull a lot of power if on, even in standby.

Normal, this phone drains about 20% battery per hour of screen use, slightly less when watching video.
2-3% drain over 2 hours is also pretty normal if you have wifi/sync on.

I just got my SIM card replaced today. The one I had used before was about 12 years old. So whenever you-re having battery issues, make sure your SIM card is not the cause for it .
My battery charge fluctuates, sometimes it goes up from 5% to 35%, sometimes it seems depleted (2%) and if I check in 15 minutes it's 10% and so on.
I'm running CM 7.2 and previously Darky ROM 10.2. Since this started happening I've used a couple of the top-rated battery calibration tools, but to no avail.
Any ideas? Is it a hardware problem? Or a driver problem with the custom ROMs? Or something else?
Try the following If you haven't already.
Charge phone until it says it's full.
Discharge until it turns off. Try to turn it on to make sure it's absolutely flat.
Do this again.
Then charge it periodically so that you keep the percentage between the 20 and 90 approximately, and see if it improves.
Repeat first steps.
Wiping battery stats and similar "calibration" has no effect on neither the percentage shown or battery performance.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it and see what happens. Any ideas to the cause of all this? Also, would buying a new battery help?
I don't really know the reason why this is happening, Li ion batteries can be somewhat of a black arts.
A new one should fix it anyway, and they're very cheap where I live at least

I passed through Same problem when i had updated my mobile to jelly bean for first time. But after 7-8 days fluctuates is decreased from +/-20% to +/- 2%. And fluctuates are gone after 20 days.
So dont worry, just wait for 20 days.
I have a Galaxy Nexus, not rooted, and it does this all day. 80%, 14%, 78%. All in a matter of minutes.
I'm discharging fully then doing a full charge to see if it changes anything.
My Sensation never did this and the apps I have are the same. In fact I've installed less on the Nexus...
same problem
i also have this same problem, check this thread...

no one gave me the correct cause or solution.i've done everything i can but no luck.if you get any correct cause or solution pls let me know.anyway I am planning to buy a new battery....
There has been a difference of about 10-12% between TWRP and os battery percentage, running latest PN with EX kernel, the phone has also started to shutdown below 40 percent during last three weeks, have tried calibrating battery multiple times but the problem is still there, even factory reset my phone , has battery faulted after 2 and a half years of use? Or what could be the issue? Mind you the shut down happens only once and I don't have to connect the charge to turn it on, it always have 25-35% battery left
The battery itself is the issue. Replace it.
clear bootloader logs every time you charge the phone so it doesn't die at 40%, but yeah the battery is shot, need replacement

First... The info in TWRP is more correct because of how it is calculated...
Second... It's a voltage issue... Sign of a dying battery...
Repairsuniverse has a great video of how to replace it... Takes about an hour... Beware the volume and power ribbon... That connector is a bastard

I havent installed a custom ROM in a while so I was feeling bored and downloaded a new ROM, copied the files overs and booted to TWRP recovery and wiped everything. I cant remember what all but i think whatever was available to wipe, I wiped
I then installed ADB to my new PC and my phone was not showing up in fastboot or adb (possible driver issues) and eventually the battery died while in the recovery.
I plugged the phone into the charger and it kept showing the battery empty icon and was not charging at all. I left it on charge for hours but nothing happened.
I eventually got a new battery and while the battery still had life in it I charged it full and then went on to install a ROM from my old PC that already had adb and I used to use it previously for installing custom ROMS.
No the phone works but dies randomly at different battery percentages. Sometimes at 60% othertimes at 40% etc..
Battery drain doesnt seem too bad. When I disable wifi, bluetooth and NFC the battery only drains 50% after 24 hours but if I leave wifi on it drains faster.
When I try to play games at 100% battery after 30 minutes the battery would be at 75% and then just shutdown saying 0%.
Then I plug it into the charger and while the phone is off it'll start charging from 0% and when it reaches 25%, if I turn it on it shows 70%
Could I have deleted / wiped files that I was not suppose to that could cause this kind of a problem?

Try to make a clean ROM installation with prior the fw and formating data with yes.....
Follow installation instructions of the chosen ROM step by step and don't delete everything again except with format data yes
Did you say you installed a new battery? Was it from official service center? You can use some battery monitoring apps like Better Battery stats /GSAM etc and see what's really causing it. Otherwise fresh install, check for few days.
So you got a new battery as a replacement. If you just got this online then there's a high chance the battery is a scam and is not exactly 5020 mAh. I know this because I'm a victim of this too on my older phone, I literally have the same issue. I suggest to get a new replacement, making sure to get it from official Mi Store or service center. In the meantime, calibrate your battery by emptying to 0% (till the phone dies) then charge to 100% while off. Repeat a couple of times and the battery percentage should display correctly. There's also a suggestion of clearing batterybin stats or similar to Poco x3 Pro where you calibrate PMIC, no harm in trying because I tried it before too and it didn't seem to cause any issues.
Here's a link to the guide if you're interested:
Calibration of the PMIC (Vayu/Bhima/Surya) via fastboot.

But the same issue happened on the original battery also
"I cant remember what all but i think whatever was available to wipe, I wiped"
So you wiped internal storage? That's probably causing issues.
Yep I think I did or at least some of it idk.. Can that be fixed?
Re-flash Stock ROM.
BTW: Always use Android USB drivers provided by phone's OEM, not those found in Android platform SDK. Then phone should get detected via USB.
