Hello,
I have a HTC One with android 4.2.2 and sense 5, it's stock but I have a custom kernel, recovery and have rooted it.
It's S-ON and I still wish to upgrade to the sense 5.5 4.3, or a custom rom.
I'm not sure how to install a custom ROM With S-ON, on the HTC One, is it the same as on the HTC One X? (Flash kernel, Install ROM etc)
Could i keep my settings i have on stock 4.2.2 & sense 5 when installing a custom ROM?
Or how could I upgrade to 4.3 & sense 5.5. stock without losing root/my settings *(So no RUU)*
Kind regards
Siem

As long as your bootloader is unlocked and you have a custom recovery you can flash a ROM and it will work fine, S-ON just locks out the very very low level stuff.
You can't keep your settings, no.

So I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere through extensive searching, so excuse me if this has been asked before. Simply put: can I go S-OFF if I have a custom ROM installed? One that isn't Sense based? There's talk about newer firmware not working for S-OFF, and from what I understand, you firmware depends on your ROM. I currently have MIUI installed, which doesn't have the Sense firmware that I've seen mentioned. Can I try and go S-OFF with this ROM installed or do I have to install stock/another Sense based ROM?
Yes you can S-off from standard or custom ROM. Although you would unlikely be able try/install a custom ROM without S-off...
Just try it out:

Awesome, thank you. I installed a custom recovery (and thus a custom ROM) easily enough without S-OFF, so I wasn't sure. Thanks for the help!

All you need to flash a custom rom is to be bootloader unlocked and custom recovery installed..... s-off is not required
Also Roms do not contain any firmware. This is why you're on a 4.2.2 ROM without the new hboot, and still able to s off.
AT&T HTC One
Baadnewz's InsertCoin 3.0-14
Flar2's Bulletproof 4.3
What if any ROMS can I use if I am S-On and on the 4.3 firmware?
I knew what I could do with S-Off, but having only S-On has me scared to try a rom without fully knowing first what I can do.
If I can flash a rom, should it be only the ones built off the 4.3?
Thanks for any help, been doing searches and have netted some results but not for my phone and not for the newest 4.3 HTC update.

the problem is how can i flash a custom rom when i have an s-on ??

You don't need S-Off to flash a custom ROM...
But it's not clear what you actually want to do - flash a custom ROM? Get the 4.3 stock ROM?

@pintabit is right, you only need an unlocked bootloader + a custom recovery to flash a custom rom. S-OFF is required for some GPE roms only. And some roms require a specific recovery version to be flashed correctly i.e ARHD require at least TWRP 2.6.3.3
Yup...be more specific with your question, and you are more likely to get a solution

Hello,
I'm currently running the SPRINT HTC M8 with Android version 5.0.1 (upgraded through OTA) with root and bootloader unlocked i think. I was just curious if i could flash that rom or if there was another rom that was pure lolipop that i can flash with s-on as i dont think we can do s-off right now??

Yes you can flash it. Being S-on you may need to flash the kernel separately from the ROM itself.
Just a normal flashing of the rom?
Wipe data system cache dalik then flash the rom? would i just flash the kernel after like i was flashing gapps? also is gapps included or do i need to flash that after the kernel?

Hey,
i'm going to try some custom roms on my gf's One M7, unfortunately she updated her M7 to Lollipop so i can't make an S-ON (right?!) except sunshine, which is not free. Anyway, i think S-ON is problematic but still ok, but which rom can i flash with S-ON?
Only stock based? Or any aosp based, but not higher Android than 5.0 ? I would like to try SkyDragon (Sense 7) but not sure if i brick the phone
Same s-on but different problem can't return to stock

If the phone is now running a lollipop firmware, you can flash any rom you'd like. S-On doesn't matter.

Even the Lollipop 5.1 (e.g. from M7 GPE) or 6.0 unofficial releases (if they are released/ported for M7)?
How about flashing cutom kernels (They will boot?) ?
Sorry, i'm really noob about possibilities with s-on (some time ago i had htc, but s-off'ed it)

System, boot(kernel), radio and recovery partitions are not secured so you don't need soff to flash a rom, kernel. Radio or recovery, you only need an unlocked bootloader.
