Touch screen problems - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Today I tried to unlock my phone to find out that the touch screen wasn't responding (android was still responding because if i longpress the power button it goes to power menu) So i got a pencil and pressed the reset button after reboot the touch worked normally again..
after about 3 hours this happend again!
I am running cm10.1 if that could be the problem
EDIT: it's not the touch screen when the screen dims and i press it it goes on again?!
anyone that had this problem too?

This happened to me too the other day. Running CM 10.1 also. I reset the phone from the back

That can be a cyanogenmod bug. Try to get a logcat when reporting it

It happened only once in the week I've been using 10.1. I cant really force the phone to make the bug in order to record it with logcat

If it happens again. Plug it in you pc and run adb logcat > Touchissue

Must admit it's happened to me once as well. As it has happened to a few of us at similar times, it hasn't happened before and it hasn't happened since (for me), I suspect it was an app that was updated on Google Play in the last week or so.

i have this problem
me too have this problem
im in cm 10.2
but my friend is on stock 4.1.2 he also suffering from this problem
its not a major issue ,facing during once or twice a week

Home and search button's not working

Hi, I have an AT&T Nexus One, running FRF85B currently. As of lately, even before update I noticed my home and search button stopped working. The haptic feedback responds when I touch them but they don't do anything. I searched the forums so please don't flame me if I missed a thread. Much thanks to anyone that can help!
P.S. I soft reset the phone a few times and also have reflashed
can you post a logcat of what happens when you press the buttons? and also try wiping cache and dalvik cache
Try to wipe and reflash and post logcat
Gfs stock phone just started doing this. Will try to get some kind of logs... A reset wouldn't make her very happy, fffuuuu

according to this we arent the only ones. it looks like a factory reset can fix the problem, but some on the link above re-encountered the problem weeks later.
surprised XDA hasnt run into this before...
in addition to home/search buttons haptic'in but not doing anything, slide lock screen goes away and the phones cannot receive calls.
Those buttons are programmable, maybe some app took control and does nothing ?A launcher perhaps?
'Programmable'? How can I set Search to ixquick?

The app's manifest needs to mention that it can handle that event

doesnt make sense though, everyone that has had this issue had all 3 completely unrelated issues:
1. buttons vibrate, do nothing
2. phone cannot receive calls
3. lock screen disappears
a wipe fixed it last night but man it was a ***** to reinstall everything for her.

we ended up getting HTC to warranty the phone and everything was fine until this morning..
any help?
same
So i started having this problem about 3 weeks ago as well right after i flashed CM7's newest experimental build. first thing I witnessed was not being able to receive calls. I figured that this was a problem with CM7 and flashed modaco's r26, after a full wipe, when it just came out a few days ago. After a day, i got the problem with the lock screen and the home and search buttons not working. I again thought this was a problem with gingerbread for some reason and flashed MIUI Mod Rodriguez style rom, again full wipe. I had restored everything through titanium backup and other forms of recovery and within about 60 minutes my home button and search keys stopped working.
So I finally figured that it was some settings that I must have adjusted and carried through numerous different ROMs that caused the problems. So next time around I didn't restore anything, running on MIUI mod, and didn't restore anything for the remainder of the day to see what happened. Low and behold, after a reset the problem came back. One other complication is that the phone will always forget my google account and i'll have to re-connect it. Then I realize that the home key doesn't work. So even not importing anything from my old Rom's with a clean wipe didn't get rid of it.
I still get haptic feedback, but the buttons just don't do anything. I changed the setting for how home and search respond in both scenarios and can't get any response either. I flashed back to an old version now and so far i'm alright. But if someone can figure out why this is happening that would be awesome.
For the other people who are having this problem, when you're doing a clean wipe are you then restoring things back via titanium back up or otherwise? and when did you first start to experience these problems?
Istarted having this same problem today. I recently flashed over to cm7 rc2 and then the same thing happened. It seems like after I do a titanium backup and then change a setting it will reset to the cm boot screen and when it comes back there's no home screen or search buttons. All the same issues. Haptic feedback works but nothing happens. I'm on an evo btw.
Same thing occuring for me after flashing CM7. Reverted back to Miui, but so far no luck in fixing this. Numerous factory resets have yet to resolve as well. This is pretty frustrating...
Having this issue as well on CM7. DEFINITELY Titanium related.
I had this problem too. I just had to shut down the phone then leave it for about 10-15 minutes then turn it on again. Everything should be fine again. ^^

[Q] Home button has mind of it's own?!?

So I am currently running Apex 7.0 Update 1 Rom and recently I have been having an issue with my home button. Basically every time I unlock my phone my home button sporadically keeps pressing it self for no reason, and the only way I am able to stop it is by hitting either the back button several times or the search button. It also happens randomly while I am using my phone to browse the internet or play music. I noticed that this also occurred while i was on Serendipity 7 so I do not think it is a ROM based issue. Has anyone encountered encountered the same issue? Is there a fix for it? Any help would be great Thanks.

This happened to mine while I still had the stock rom on it. AT&T took it back, no questions asked and replaced it. I would suggest going back to stock and calling AT&T. I assume you're still within your one-year window.
As a bonus, my GPS was horrible on my first handset, but my second was has been perfect since day one, no matter what rom I've been on.

Try putting your phone in a bag of rice for a while. If the button is freaking out, there's a chance it may have some moisture in the phone that's causing problems, and the rice will draw that moisture out.

Back button stops responding issue

Hi guys I have been facing a problem ever since I got the device and do not know whether the issue is only with my device. The issue is that with all the roms the capacitive back button stops responding after a while and I have to turn off the screen and back on to get it to work for a while and again repeat the procedure. Is there a fix for this which I may have missed. I an using buttons saviour for now. Thanks.

My device always got that issue when I used my device heavily usage, especially when my device get hot/warm
Just screen off then on to reenable back button normally
I think main point in hardware device

same problem.... just hit home button and the back button "back" alive for me
switch between launchers
well i also have that problem.i also know others with this problem.in my case restarting the launcher helps.ofcourse if u r getting both the home and back button not responding at the same time then its not possible.i get both of them not responding at the same time very very rare.at that time all i do is turn of the screen and wait a few minutes.thats all, every thing is normal again.oh one more thing i think its a good idea to keep more than one launcher installed and not making any of the default.it helps switch between them easier.switching between launcher always helps in these not respondig issues.

now i am also facing camera not connecting issue at times.
I do have that camera issue you have sir, at rare times. Is it hardware failure in the works?
don't know mate. i have this time an again on most roms, previously i thought it was due to bad sdcard. But i am facing this from past 10 days or so. The phone killed one of my 16 Gb class 6 sd cards.

touch screen not responding

I read already that a few ppl had this problem with different ROMs. I never had it before today. I switched the screen on and it looked normal but I couldn't do anything. I could swich the screen off again and tryed to press the power button long, OK shoutdown menu apeared but as the touch screen didn't respond I couldn't select anything. Well I pulled the battery out and it started normal, works good again.
Maybe I never have this problem again, but if it apears again might canging the kernel help or is it a ROM problem? I had this problem with JellyBam 4.1 so I could just use a different CM10 kernel.
BTW as I pulled the battery I have no log, but there might be a change to still get that log with ADB because the phone was still running just no touch response and that means (nearly) unuseable. I just have no clue how to do it, if it is posible could somebody tell me how to get that log?
Before pull out battery, try hold both Vol + and Power button until the phone restart (if it can, if not, then, you can pull out battery and forget the logcat ^^)

This appears to be a common P970 bug with 4.04+ ROMS. Loss of touch control, and long-pressing the power button brings up the shutdown menu which you can't access.
GB/2.3.4 ROMs don't have this bug. I'm not aware of any fix, save reverting to GB.

OMG somebody is still replying to that old post, over a year old, I don't even use that phone anymore, may last year I got my S3.
As I said, it only happend to me once with the JellyBam 4.1 ROM, I didn't gave to mutch to that problem with JellyBam, cause it was not the only one. That ROM was bs and didn't stayed long on my phone. It had everything, but nothing worked.
A lot GB and ICS ROMs worked well and even most of the CM ones worked rather good, they where just to power hungry. I liked all the Zeus ROMs, especially IZS. IZS is LG 4.0.4 based and was by fare the one I liked the most.

I shouldn't have replied to you. It's an old post. I should have targeted the latest post in the thread.
i think its hardware issue,,if i press and hold a little while on upper screen (right beside lg logo) touch screen became normal again. but sometimes need to hold on there when touch not work again. a member on this forum call it a flex issue of the touchscreen.
anyone know how much cost to replace it with new flex to fix this issue?

Alright yeah I flashed stock and it worked fine but the problem dosen't seem to be the kernel......That's because it just worked fine and no problems but then I switched to AOSB again and again its not working....
