Got myself an ATT Touch Pro. When using the Internet Sharing Application, with either USB or Bluetooth, I am getting an error. This is what is going on.
1. Open the Application.
2. Select either USB or Bluetooth.
3. Click on Connect.
4. Click Yes on the Enable the Device Dialogue.
5. Status shows as Device Setup finished.
6. Network activitiy shows in the Top tool bar.
7. Error message: Cannot Connect. The Remote party has ended this connection.
I can put the same SIM back in my Tilt and I am running great. Also downloaded URPREY-ICS from a different thread and installed it. But still having the isssue. Any help is appreciated.
It's AT&T's way of trying to force you to get a tethering plan. You need a registry editor, and maybe your phone unlocked, but mine worked without it.
Go to the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
There will be a value ForceCellConnection it will be set to "AT&T ISP". Change it to "Media NET" without the "" and that should do it. You'll need to close and reopen internet sharing if you had it open while doing this.
Thanks so much! It worked!!!!
Internet Sharing on FUZE
All you really have to do is go into settings and select the ATT ISP... edit... instead of [email protected] change to WAP. This will connect the forced ATT ISP Setting to connect to wap.cingular... No need for a download or anything... I had mine working in a few seconds.
I am assuming it is against AT&T's TOS to tether without the plan, correct?
My question is... I pay for the unlimited data package... If I tethered for small amounts of data while traveling is it really noticeable? Is there any other way for them to tell?

they can't notice if the traffic is coming from a laptop or a phone but they can notice irregularities in the data consumption. Basically, if you use it for normal usage (web browsing, email, etc..) then you should be fine.

I've had unlimited data for over two years. I stream TV via orb from my home pc to my phone and laptop, browse the internet going to whatever site I please, etc. I've went over 5GB a few times, but normally stay in the 2-3 GB a month range. I've never heard anything. And not they can't tell. If it's against their TOS, they need to tell their reps in the store. When I got my blackjack two years ago, that's exactly what they told me to do. They said you don't need a plan other than unlimited to tether with this phone.

So did I. Because I already had a registry editor downloaded on my mem card and it worked fine on my new phone. A registry editor is a requirement IMHO, so it's well worth the download even if you don't use it for this.

Actually you are better off to just empty out the value.
This way, when you go to internet sharing you will get a second drop down asking you to select the connection.
I did this and it works greate. ( This is how the unlocked version of HTC Touch Pro has )

Have you tried any of the steps above? Your post is pretty vague.

I hit around 5.8GB back in March. Didn't hear anything, so I assume no news is good news. They CAN do it however. Doubt full that they will unless you make it a habit. That was only my second or third time over 5GB in over 2 years and the most I have ever used in a month. Yay march madness!
Took latest HTC ROM and sharing will no longer work
I updated my Rom on both my Fuze and Tilt. Now internet sharing will not work any more. I get the remote refusal message. I went into the reg and I do not have the forceconnect value to delete. Any suggestions??

Try a custom ROM? I don't have that ROM to tell you what to change, but I would guess it is the connection internet sharing is using. Use media net and see if that helps. If not, custom rom! There's no good reason really to run a stock ROM unless you intend on using your phone the way AT&T wants you to.
I know how to edit the registry on a PC, how do you do get to it on a Tilt 2?

Same way...with a registry editor.
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Does the Tilt2 already have a register editor, or do I need to download one? If it has one, how do I get to it? If I need to download one, what would you recommend?
Thanks,

You need to download one. I'm using whatever came with my ROM, so I'm not sure of the name, but they are available here. Just search for them.
Thanks, I'll find one.
Did a search and it didn't show any results about an app called Juice Defender....so here's a post about it.
Simply put it disables your apn when your phone is asleep then turns it back on when you go to use your phone.
It will really surprise how much it saves. Instead of my phone having 5% battery life left after normal usage in a 13-15 hour day, I now have 30-35% percent left.
I suggest everyone give it a try. It has customizable options and is a nice alternative for those not wanting to double the size of their g1 with an extended battery, but want more from their battery.
Just search "Juice Defender" in market or here's the link to the website: http://www.latedroid.com/2010/01/juicedefender.html
Doesnt that mean you wont receive calls or texts?

An APN is only required for 3G, so it should still be fine as EDGE/GSM would still be available. Thats the theory anyway.

Exactly I still receive all my calls and texts, and it also has a schedule so it will turn the apn on for a short time every so many minutes. Mine is scheduled for every 30mins my phone is asleep, it turns the apn on for 3 mins. This way I still recieve any updates that require a data connection, such as email or facebook.

The Access Point Name (APN) is required for GPRS/EDGE/3G. It's my job
OT
The reason why the custom ROMs have the "big apn list" is because when you use different carrier sims the APN is typically always different (except a lot of companies use "internet" for their APN). When I went to China last month my G1 automatically knew the APN for China Mobile. China Mobile doesn't have 1700mhz 3G and I used the APN appp to disable internet access so I wouldn't burn through my prepaid minutes. Very nice.
Im not sure this app works. I turned it on, left Hello AIM signed in, sent some IM's to my phone from my PC and my phone was still able to recieve the IM's in sleep mode.
something that I do is that I turn off my gps and my sync option also I only select my sinc for my gmail and not my contacts or my calendar (I unchecg those) I disable the option that allows google to get my location automatically and share my info with google
when Im not using the internet I select the option of 2g networks only
and that saves me ALOT OF BATTERY

Not sure why that's happening, the app definetly works. There's a half second delay when you wake up your phone and you can see the apn being enabled again, as it wasn't there previously. some things to consider:
-You didn't actually activate the app. It's not enough to just install it you have to click on it and select activate.
-You sent the IM's immediately after putting your phone to sleep. It isn't an immediate turn off of the apn, some data may still get through before it completely turns it off.
-Or it maybe a custom ROM problem. Maybe some unique setting is set so your apn behaves differently than the app expects.

This is what I did (and still do) before I installed this app to save battery. Try using the app and you'll see your battery life will almost double.
I can only agree. Works fine for me. Battery lasts considerably longer.

I don't see it on the market?
I see it on developer website as free and has a barcode. I scan it with my barcode scanner and it didn't find on the market either. Is this compatible with cupcake 1.5 ROM or only 1.6 or higher? I like to give this app a try.
Update: OK I looked at the FAQ on dev site and it's not compatible for cupcake ROM. So I guess I have to wait until 2.1 rom comes out.. bummer.

i just searched for it and it is in the android market.
I did a search in the market and found it... it seems to work like the OP said it would... I am still able to receive texts, and I can see the delay when the 3g comes back on. Only time will tell though... If you download the free version, some things are disabled. I might end up getting the paid version later if this really helps.
alright, so i installed it and played around with the settings.
i rebooted my phone and now it doesnt really boot up.
on the lockscreen, i get the 'no service' message. and then it gives me a ton of force closes one right after the other.
so basically, it doesnt allow my phone to boot up. doesnt even get to the part where it gets signal or anything.
im just gonna restore from an earlier backup and see what was wrong. but dunno if this has happened to any of you...

You need to make sure that your phone is connected through wifi and not 3g/4g. I had the same problem. It needs to download the update no matter what, but since the update is so huge it will refuse to download if your connection is not wifi.

Looks like we can just use ADB to unlock the bootloader and use TWRP to as needed.

Yeah reading that thread I was lucky not to jump on it since there were issues with the initial release. Although I am still seeing the "your phone is up to date" message. I tried disabling OEM unlock and using hide root to move the su binary just in case it was looking for that.
Appearing OTA for me.
:good:
I shall wait.
Its confirmed on my end too by using the LG Bridge Software. I am so happy that its out. it's a big update too. It's 1.57 gigs.
Edit: update successful. Here is the screenshot with the all the details. Update was like an hour or so. So worth it though
Bridge keeps saying my phone is not connected. Trying to update on a Mac will try on windows later

Finally updated my wife's g4 manually
20i? wow! waiting a custom rom.
Anyone know the difference between the OTA and Bridge updates? I know with Motorola phones it's recommended to use the PC download program because the OTA could brick the phone in certain circumstances.
what is better h811 20i or genesys 3.7 20d? ^^
Installed update using LG Bridge, took 15 minutes, no issue so far. 5ghz Wi-Fi works better, phone seems snappier.

As of the 12th Verizon has officially released update # 5 firmware version N960USQU1CSB3.
Check out Verizon's update web page & see for yourself firmware update #5 (pie) is posted finally.
Still doesn't mean I can get an OTA update even when spamming the "check for update" option.
Oh well.
You guys should have better luck. One Hope's anyway.
Of course you can update through Verizons update software while connected to your PC if you choose.

I had the same problem but it suddenly started working. Not sure if it was a coincidence but it activated after turning off the 'Video calling' feature under the 'Wifi calling' option.
Also, search for 'WiFi-calling' in settings, select it, tap Battery, and make sure 'Optimized battery usage' is not optimized.
