Great news, Hulu Plus is now available for 6 Android devices. I wonder if we can get an apk from a compatible smartphone and test it on Nook Color. The compatible devices are:
Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix
Update: Found it here

The app seems to work perfectly on my Nook Color running phiremod v6.3.
Not supported
Not supported on CM7 n102. Installs fine but wont play anything.
OK, tested it and works fine on my CyanogenMod 7.

What nightly are you using ? Please and thank you.
Latest 7.1 beta and latest Dalingrin OC kernel.
Sent from my Nook Color
By latest 7.1 beta I assume you mean nightly 110?
When I run the app, I get a red and white message popup saying that my device isn't supported. It will allow me to login and manage my queue (big whoop), but it won't play anything.
I'm on CM7 nightly 106, Dal's OC kernel. Build prop is edited for manufacturer = HTC for netflix.
I tried changing my buildprop to match my Nexus one (all kinds of combos until it broke when I changed the processor type), but no joy.
Coincidentally, I am having problems on my Nexus One running CM7 stable (7.0.3-N1-signed). It will start playing, but immediately buffers and then complains about the network (I'm on WiFi).
Any ideas? I'll upgrade to nightly 110 after I run a backup.

Shows stream perfectly for me. Did you modify your build.prop or is it standard? Have you tried using using Rom Manager to fix permissions?
Works perfectly for me too. I'm CM7.1, Build GRI40. My NC thinks it's a "Nexus S" by "samsung" in name only. No fingerprint mods were made when I did this a while back to make Netflix work (which also runs great).
I found my APK here instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136634
Well, CM7 nightly 110 didn't help. Switching to Phiremod 6.3 didn't make a difference. Tried Nexus S / Samsung in build.prop (after switching back to nightly 110) and not only did Hulu+ android app refuse video playback, Netflix is impersonating Alvin and the ChipmonksĀ©.
Guess its back to HTC in the build.prop and waiting for an update to Hulu+ for me.
Oh, and the problem with my Nexus One constantly buffering was my modified hosts file for AdBlocking. I had to "Revert" to normal to get Hulu+ working on my N1. (It made no difference on my Nook either).
Question for folks that have it running on your Nooks: Did you ever modify your Flash player to get Hulu working in your browser prior to installing the dedicated app?

I'm running the official CM 7.0.3 (Encore build) with stock / non-overclocked kernel. Your issue is likely kernel / overclock related. It could also be that the unstable nightlies don't work. Try a stable build.

I don't think the OC is the problem (except for the Netflix Chipmonks, that's a "known issue"). To be sure I didn't load one until I restored my CM7 n110 install at the end.
Phiremod 6.3 includes an OC kernel and soricon reports that he or she runs dalingrin's OC kernel, so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Phiremod is also based on 7.0.3 stable and soricon uses "latest 7.1 beta" (which I take to mean "latest nightly").
Those users are reporting a "functional" program. I just hope that means they have Hulu + accounts, have logged in, and have actually played videos in the app and not in the browser.

You are right, I do have Hulu+ account and it runs in the app just fine.
I am running the Phiremod test build (which is nightly 102) with the 061311 Kernel and it works great for me.
Did you do the WIN or IE6 mod to your browser? I am using Dolphin HD...in settings, go to USER AGENT and use CUSTOM. Under CUSTOM USER AGENT, enter WIN for windows.
In the stock browser under SELECT USER AGENT, use IE6.
That may be where your getting stuck.

We are discussing running the new dedicated app for Hulu+, not going to hulu.com in a browser. I was concerned that there might be confusion on that matter.
I am also interested in knowing whether or not anyone that *IS* getting the app to run had previously been using the modified flash program in a browser to access hulu.com
Thanks

I'm using a non-modified version of Flash on phiremod v6.3 and the hulu + app is streaming perfectly. When hulu + was announced the other day, it was not available to me in the market. I downloaded the apk from the Android development thread here on xda. Once I installed the apk with app installer and entered my hulu + account info, it just worked perfectly. No modified Flash, no modified build.prop. Let me know if there is any additional information that I can share to help out.
Thanks for the info. It looks like CM 7.1 stable is going to drop in the next build, so I'll get all my backups up to date and prepare a totally fresh install (wiping EVERYthing). I'll try Phitemod first, but I'm hoping CM will work.
I have a theory that the apk I harvested from my N1 originally hosed something deep and switching to the app from xda later never really "took". That or the Netflix build prop changes and / or brian21f's fixer app changed something deep.
We'll see
It's running fine on my NC - CM7.0.3 stable, hulu-fied Flash, have not changed the build.prop (although I tried and couldn't get it to write for some reason).
I used to have Hulu+ but discontinued it a few weeks ago.
I watched on of the free streams this morning and it looked beautiful.
How much I love this forum! Pherimod 6.3 and Hulu + is running perfectly on my NC.
Hi all,
I am still running stock 2.3.6 but I am thinking about unlocking my phone to run CM. Anyway, I have been browsing through the dev CM7 thread and found that there are a lot of random reboots, lockups and other problems in the 7.1 stable release. I am thinking that installing the an older nightly perhaps would give me a better experience. Which nightly would you recommend?
Thanks.
I think its not good to stay on
a single nightly because there are few tweaks with every new nighty which makes it better from last one.
Anyway I recommend you to try cm7.1 rc1 before trying nightlies
For some time.

On my N1 Cm 7.1 is stable to but playing videos in flash full screen causes so many lock ups, i hope cyanogen would release a minor update for it

I'm one latest nightly, build 227. Very good and stable for me.
Just make sure you do a clean wipe including system partition
when coming from a different ROM.
Thanks guys! Do you know of a bug tracking page that lists all the bugs that CM7.1 currently has?
Thanks.
Not a bug tracker, but I find this page very useful and visit it daily to see if I want to upgrade to the latest nightly or not: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=passion
Looks like the latest nightly is marked as 7.1.0.1... #227 as baseballfanz said. Maybe that will fix the problems you mentioned... however, I will note that I've been running 7.1 stable since the day it was released (nightlies before that) and have had zero problems at all. No lockups, no reboots, no problems at all no matter what I do with it...
7.1.0.1 is a maintenance release for a few devices. The N1 was not included in this list. And most of the reboots and instability issues with the stable release are resolved when people perform full wipes of the phone. It has been rock solid for me.
Thanks guys... I have installed CM71 Nightly 231 last night. It was going smooth at the beginning but I got stuck on flashing Amon_Ra recovery. For some reason my phone wasn't taking the CM themed version but the original version installed fine.
First problem after flashing the ROM and gapps was Market wasn't downloading apps for some reason. I think it was because the phone was reinstalling all the apps at the same time and it just couldn't handle the load. I had to install the apps one after another and that got through it.
The phone rebooted itself when I played a video for the first time, but it's been working rock solid so far. Now I'll have to figure out how to use S2E!
Thanks!
first of all i have an I9000 and my only problem so far with these ICS builds is that sometimes my audio (mp3 playback, poweramp) gets re-routed to the speaker or the sound stutters. everytime i get a notification especially from gmail / market (when it updates my apps) this thing occurs.
i had to disable the notification sound in settings to prevent this issue occuring.
btw im using the latest CM9 nightly (did a full wipe) is this a known issue? or is there any fix for this?
HALP
The best place to ask this is the CM9 nightly thread here.
The reason for this is because its a very specific problem and the fact that it is a nightly so all bugs should be reported there or on their official website so they know about it... The sooner someone on the CM9 team knows about it the sooner a fix will be implemented and a new nightly will be released..
If you would like a more stable rom then its not a good idea to choose a nightly. Choose one of the other custom roms in the android development section. Read the threads the first few and last 5 pages so you are aware of current bugs and possible fixes. Also use the search in the individual thread. If you have a question and you cannot find an answer via search or reading then make a post (If it is very rom specific then within the rom thread)

The best way to know would be to read their thread (last few pages and OP) as well as trying it for yourself.
Not entirely sure if it's related to CM, but only on the latest stable (10.0) I've had issues with my WiFi not wanting to stay connected, even on a strong connection.
Everything else works great!

I just installed it yesterday. Problem with mine was that the ASOP keyboard not working. Luckily I just dled teh swiftkey.apk a day earlier. Play store wasn't working for me either and the browser just open and close. That's all i tried. I'm going back to CM9 til I know whats wrong and back up some data.
I installed the stable cm10 and the gapps. Hope others dont run in to the same problem as me
Did you restore your apps or app data? That would most likely cause this problem. Or flashing the wrong gapps.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
No, once I got cm10 installed. I was trying to change some of the settings and found "keyboard(ASOP) stopped working" or some error message along the line of that when I try to enter wireless password. After installing swiftkey, I tried opening play store and it just have "server error"
So I haven't gotten to getting titanium backup yet to restore apps
I just took the latest gapps (the first link on the list), so I'm not sure if that's the right one. I'll try again during the weekend. I'll let you guys know if it goes well.
I'm on CM 10 latest stable build, 4.1.2. Came from GB kk4 plus corn 7 kernel. with latest gapps. I use touchpal keyboard.
I have TiBU pro, but rather than batch install apps, I went though google play to install apps, then selectively restored data on apps with TiBU as needed. While this took some time with this approach (96 apps), CM10 is flawless, virtually no probs at all. it actually seems more stable than before.
at times a little laggy but not a showstopper.

UPDATE: Just flashed to CM10 stable. I found out that the GAPPS I used last time was actually for CM10.1.0 while the CM10 that is out is only CM10.0.0
Be sure to get the right version of GAPPS. The latest one they have is for CM10.1.0

Looks like I'm the unlucky one den. I'm about to try again. I'm using cm's 3.0.8-g2311908 kernel.
Wish me luck.
you are correct, you want the 10.0.0 version from goo, which points to gapps 4.2, backward compatible to 4.1.
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
thats what I used. I guess the 4.2 set the 'latest' bit in my brain.

I cant run Gingerbread (GB) because many apps I use do not support such an old Android version.
So it must be between Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), Jellybean (JB), and Kitkat (KK).
I've tried a few roms and cannot find the buglessness I seek:
[ROM] [4.1.2] [Mar 18 2013] Slim VJ Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - v1.0 for N1
VJ's previous non-slim JB rom
Evervolv's Kitkat
j00m's Kitkat
MIUI.us's unofficial JB port v2.12.28 (considerably worse than the official GB MIUI rom)
reider123's CM10 rom
tommypacker's pixeldroid AOKP kitkat
tommypacker's CM10.1.3 Android 4.2.2 v2.7
parkedraccoon's CM11
Evervolv ICS
All of them contain frustrating bugs. So the search continues to find the most workingest post-gingerbread rom.
Together, I'm sure we can find it! Who's got a lead?
And the winner is...
j00m's kitkat!
I'm using it on a 198/3/235 hboot (system is only 191mb)
one of the only roms besides official Evervolv that has trackball wake toggle (no more pocket wake-ups!)
on my recommendation, j00m replaced the /system/app/Torch.apk with one that stays on after screen turns off.
Tip: enable lock screen widgets in Security settings, and put the torch widget on the lock screen for quick access.
j00m fixed WiFi tethering (w/security set to None only)
i replaced the slow buggy stock kitkat browser with UCbrowser (it's even faster than dolphin)
i turned off the clunky window animations in Developer Options for a snappier experience
i installed the app Videocam Illusion to enable video recording
this is as bug free as it gets. Daily driver ready.
CM-11?

Hmm, the only decent post-gingerbread ROM I found was Evervolv/J00m's KitKat. It works fine for me, but others haven't had such luck...Evervolv JellyBean (3.2.0 I believe?) was the best alternative, I can't remember what problem caused me to switch back to CM7. I think (if my memory serves me correctly) that one time it was the home button that wouldn't work, but the second time around it worked, I think it had something to do with running out of space, perhaps due to the GAPPS? Anyhow, you might give it a try and see if it works for you. Maybe try to flash the core GAPPS and get the play store to install your stuff instead of the full GAPPS which is way bigger.
I have the same problem with a 4.4 evevolv, the phone restarts constantly and gives me process.media was interrupted.

Actually, the solution isn't as easy to find as I remember. What worked for me was to clear data of media storage: Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage. Others have reported that they had to clear data of Contacts and Contacts Storage located in the same place.

I'll give it a try.
@PhilipTD, yep, I think that's the one: [ROM] [DEV] [ICS 4.0.4] *7/1* Evervolv's Aosp TexasIce Cream Sandwich
hboot 220/10/206
I found a working download link to the final version of Evervolv's ICS rom (Evervolv-Perdo-2.2.0-Final-passion.zip): http://evervolv.codefi.re/builds/release/Perdo/
And its corresponding gapps: http://d-h.st/AxV
I tested Evervolv's ICS and immediately found 2 bugs that have been haunting me:
Cant play videos embedded in webpages.
Pressing the trackball to take a photo always requires 2 presses for the first photo.
So I gave the latest j00m's Kitkat another try, and while it's not bugless...
it seems to be the ONLY post-gingerbread rom that can play videos embedded in webpages.
Still has the camera-trackball bug. (is this bug present only in evervolv-based roms?)
Videocam illusion app works on EVERY rom for video recording.
Kitkat at least has the potential of fixing bugs as it is currently receiving very frequent updates.
So I think j00m's Kitkat is the way to go.

j00m's KitKat is really good. The only reason I switched to Evervolv's was because I wanted to try out ART on my device and that setting had been removed from the j00m's nightly...but ART doesn't work on my phone so they're both good for me. I might go back to j00m at some point since it is simpler to flash (don't need to flash GAPPS on top!) - plus it has a boot animation that has a clear start so I know whether my phone is in a bootloop or simply taking forever to load.

Additionally, j00m's rom is slimmed down to only 211MB system which means it should work perfectly on the ICS hboot - 220/10/206 saving lots of space!
The stock kitkat web browser is barely usable. Chrome browser is even worse. Thankfully, the Dolphin Browser works really well!

I've generally felt VJ's v6.0 4.2.2 was the slickest version of JB that I've used till date on my N1.
I've used PixelDroid, Carbon, PACMan, ParanoidAndoid and Evervolv. But while these ROMs are customizable and have different features, VJ's ROM had the perfect (imho) blend of CM and Vanilla Android which was right for me.
Video recording and Tethering won't work but the rest of the features are pretty cool. As far as KK ROMs are concerned, they are still not as smooth nor as stable as the JBs yet. I've only started playing around with @parkedraccoon's CM 11 and @texasice's 4.4. I expect better updates to follow.
