[Q] Htc bricked, red triangle loop - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
How stupid I was. I was trying to root my new unlocked htc one.. Unfortunately something went wrong and cannot get into system now at all.. Little phone comes up with red triangle in the middle and after a while it reboots itself and same thing happens again. I can go into fastboot mode, bit either factory reset or recovery end woth red triangle. Bootlocker is unlocked, Im able to lock it again, S-on and I cannot turn it off. I heard about ruu files but as far as I know I cannot downgrade when S-on. My os version is 2.24.401.8 and the newest I could find was 1.38 (something like this). My question is: can anyone do something about it? Is onlu solution to wait for newer ruu version than 2.24? Will it ever come out? If someone will help me bring my phone back to life I will pay you for your time.. Thanks

You're unlocked, so no worries you should be able to get your phone up and running. post back the getvar and we'll take it from there

That screen with the red triangle is stock recovery. Hold Power+Vol keys together to get into the menu to reset, etc.

No hair pulling please :silly:
Since you're unlocked you can easily flash any ROM and get your phone up and running again, I do suggest (if you are willing) to get S-Off which will allow you a bit more flexibility now and in the future.
But one step at a time!! so, no hasty flashing, etc. and DO NOT lock your bootloader unless you are S-Off, otherwise there may be a chance you won't get it unlocked again.
How long till you get off work?

sorry which ROM, you didnt post a link
Your bootloader looks just fine!! you can flash pretty much anything you want except unsigned firmware or RUU downgrade (you need S-Off for those, and with you 2.24.401.8 S-Off can easily be achieved)
I'm gonna be off in a while, so if you wanna pick this up some other time just let me know (maybe the weekend best since it's almost here)
In the meantime, you can go ahead and flash any ROM you like.
Don't mess with firmware or RUU for the time being, and do not try and lock your device!!!!!!
To be able to flash a ROM, you will need to install a custom recovery (either CWM or TWRP), I personally use CWM Touch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173863
You flash that in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, on you PC:
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> enter RECOVERY, and make a nandroid backup
while in recovery, on your PC:
adb push <name of rom>.zip /data/media/ <- this will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, and should come back with sucess
in recovery "install zip" -> "choose zip" -> select the rom, and go through the installer
you should be good to go

If you just want to go back to stock, use CWM to flash this: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-401-8-zip/
If you want to receive OTAs, select "stock recovery" and "stock radio" in the installer
small walkthrough: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47085377&postcount=44 (except "stock recovery" and "stock radio" as mentioned before so you can receive OTAs)
Hit thanks if I've helped

before I start. theres 3 options
1. zip from sdcard
2. from last install folder
3. from sideload
Should I choose 1st option as this (]adb push <name of rom>.zip /data/media/) command will copy my rom to SDcard?

If you want a sense rom use the Android revolution hd 31.5.
If you want more of a stock android os get cyanogen, make sure if you flash cyanogen that you flash the gapps too . Hope re are many roms, those I would say are most prominent. hopethis helps

You need to get the zip file for whatever rom you choose in you're phone, then you would choose option 1, which will let you locate the zip file and select it to flash

when adb push <name of rom>.zip /data/media/ error comes up with DEVICE NOT FOUND.. Im using my computer at work and dont have htc sync and drivers.. is this the problem? Cannot install it because Im not an admin. I will be at home in few hours if drivers are the case. If I choose REBOOT it asks me about the ROOT. What should I choose? Will I have any problems when I choose yes?

If i go into recovery he gives a red triangle with ( ! ) in it.
I realy hope that you guys can help me, because i want to go back to stock or just install a rom so i can use my phone again.
You're not f***ed, dude You can get your recovery back by flashing a new one trough a PG32IMG.zip. To unroot your phone properly it's not enough to just flash a RUU. I once found a great guide on the internet but it's in German. But it worked for me, so it's definitely possible

plz tell me how , because i already downloaded a pg321img from somewhere but that failed, and i`m now downloaden PG32IMG_VIVO_ICS_35_S_HTCCN_CHS_4.08.1400.2_Radio_20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.24_M_release_264218_signed.zip is this the good one?
The red triangle with the exclamation mark is the 'fail' indication in stock recovery, it seems that your ruu has written the recovery but has not written hBoot which is why your hBoot reads 6.xx (revolutionary). My advice is to get a goldcard micro sd card and re flash the ruu using a pc (provided that your inc s can go to hBoot USB). Then you will be unrooted to stock.
Edit.
Downgrade from pc using goldcard and USB mode. Use a gingerbread ROM, preferably from your region, or English WWE and not the ICS Chinese ruu, unless you're from China.

ok dude, i realy dont know how to make a goldcard or so ever, i tried to do it with some tutorials but that failed.
How'd you get s-off using revolutionary? Didn't you make a goldcard for it? There's an excellent tutorial in the sticky section on how to make a goldcard. If I remember right, it takes just the 15 min including the time it takes for the revskills site to email you the IMG file. Best of luck.

OK, here is what you need to do:
1. Boot the phone into FASTBOOT USB mode and then flash ClockworkMod recovery image using the command:
fastboot flash recovery [path to recovery.img]
That will restore ClockworkMod.
From there you can either restore a previous nandroid backup you made or flash a new custom ROM.
Here is the link for ClockworkMod recovery image:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img

[Q] I deleted everything on the one, please help

I am a newbie trying to root htc one(att) , after I installed the 4.2.2 it began to keep restarting,I tought it was because I didn't wipe my data before I flash a new ROM, so i enter the TWRP and wanna wipe data and try again.
But I selected all the options and wiped everything on the cellphone including the OS, so now I can enter the bootloader, and I can enter the recovery, but I can't find the "USB storage" in the computer , so how can I transfer the rom to the storage and flash again?
Thank you very much

You know what ADB and Fastboot are I assume? if not, I'll explain more.
But you have to do the following:
- download a rom of your choice on your pc (or use one you already have on there)
- put it in your ADB folder (for example for me C:\Users\Thom\Downloads\One\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130219\sdk\platform-tools)
- then open a command window in that folder (shift+right click on the folder, or in a cmd window use the cd command)
- use the command "adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/ROM.zip" replacing ROM with the EXACT name of the ROM file and including the .zip piece on both ends. This may take a minute or two...or four, but you will see a message in Command Prompt saying something like <12345678kb to 1234567kb>. That is just telling you that the file was pushed properly.
Hi, thank you for the help. I followed your guide and successfully transfer the zip into the phone. But when I enter the recovery and try to install, it failed and says:
E: unable to mount /cache
E: unable to mount /data
E: unable to mount /system
E: unable to mount internal storage
I click the mount option in the recovery , there are 4 box (cache, data,system,USB-OTG), but I can't choose any of them.
Also at the bottom of the box it says that"Storage: Internal Storage (0MB)"

ok, I'll try to help.
I had the exact same problem yesterday (I was being a bit dumb and accidently pressed the wrong button ) and I managed to solve it.
Okay, here is the RUU. Download it, it may take a while.
http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/1847-ruu-m7-ul-jb-50-cingular-12650212exe/
So while it's downloading, start with preparing.
First of all, did you flash the new firmware already? If so, go back to the old one. I'm not sure if the AT&T has same firmware as the international, if it does I can give you a link because I still have it on my pc.
You can flash it with "fastboot oem rebootRUU" (case sensitive!)
then when you see a htc logo on your phone "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" (replace firmware with actual file name)
THEN FLASH IT AGAIN, OTHERWISE IT WON'T WORK AND YOU'LL BE BRICKED
then if it says succesful, use "fastboot reboot". Then go back into bootloader.
then, flash stock recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158763)
after that, relock your device (command is "fastboot oem relock")
so after the RUU finished downloading, try to run it.
Any problems, I'll keep an eye on this thread
Thank you . I am now at the htc grey logo status.
Since I dont know what firmware is I am afraid to take the next step.
Whats the firmware you've talked about? Is it OS? like 4.2.2 OS zip file?

No, the firmware package for the HBoot, Radio, etc.
I assume you didn't flash it when going to 4.2.2?
Or did you take the official 4.2.2 update before?
No, I didn't flah firmware when going to 4.2.2.
When my phone is good, all I did is I just copied the 4.2.2 to the phone and install in the recovery status.
Then the 4.2.2 keeps restarting and then I deleted everything on the phone .

and how do I do it? just shift+right click to cmd and fastboot flash recovery name.img?

Okay, you still have 4.1.2 firmware then. In that case you can just reboot already and skip the first step

okay, I have been browsing a while, but I unfortunately have no idea which one you could use.
HOWEVER,
I did see someone say you don't need stock recovery. So, try to just relock it and then flash the RUU.
You can always unlock it again if it doesn't work, so there isn't much of a risk

the problem here isn't the firmware he flashed the 4.2.2 rom, which uses the storage a bit different.
The problem he has is caused by the fact he didn't clear SD directly after flashing (needed if you jump from custom rom 4.1.2 to 4.2.2)
it could have been easy, but he can't boot into his rom, everything is gone. If he could boot it would be waaaaaaay easier, would only require a few ADB commands
OK, now I run the RUU, the phone is in the grey htc status,.It says gonna take 10 mins, hope it will be fine :victory:

no problem mate
good you're back.
before you flash 4.2.2, take the official OTA
or if you don't have it yet, first flash the 4.2.2 firmware (can be found in the ARHD thread) and then after the rom is done installing, wipe the sd card
Have fun with your One

HTC One original rom on root device update problem

...guys I was looking around, but couldn't find answer for my little problem. I have rooted HTC One, but rom is stock (didn't plan to change it at all just needed root), but the problem is today a new update came up, and when I tried to install it, it simple didn't do anything.
I go on Install now, phone restarts in recovery mode, then it gives me Installation aborted, and I have 3 thingies, - No; - Yes - Disable recovery flash: - +++++Go Back+++++
Whatever I choose, it just restarts and asks again for same recovery. What shall I do?
In console stands this:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.4
E: Invalid command argument
E: Invalid command argument
Warning: No file_contexts
Finding update package...
E: unknown volume for path [DATA:data/cp,/amdrpod_HTC_Europe_2.24.401.8-2.24.401.1_release_331108tottoh71qygw07hf.zip]

...ah, I knew it. I presume that stock recovery can't be flashed from custom recovery.
So I need to flash stock recovery, then to lock bootloader, and then I guess I'm good to go!?!
Can I flash it from custom recovery, or do I need to flash it differently? Anyone has link for it, or are all stock recoveries same (I mean from different providers)?
Thanks

Install stock recovery like I said above, once done type the following :- "fastboot oem lock"
You should be good to go then for the update. Re-locking your bootloader doesn't wipe your files either, only unlocking wipes the internal storage.
...OK, so here is what I did. From ADB restored the original recovery.img, then lock bootloader, and viola. Thanks guys for helping me out.
Cheers...
Edit: ...I forgot to uninstall SuperSU, and now I have a shortcut in apps and it cannot be removed. When I run it, phone says: "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a Problem!" ...lolz me, what to do?

What is all this about S-Off and HTCDev ... You unlock your bootloader through HTCDev, S-Off is NOT something that can be done any other way than Revone and Moonshine and NOT on Hboot 1.54 ... Yet.
I've seen several people mention S-Off and HTCDev in the same breath and I think some of you are getting it all mixed up. Unlocking the bootloader and going S-Off are not the same thing and only unlocking the bootloader can be done through the HTCDev website.
I'm pretty sure HTC aren't going to help you remove the security from your device.
I stand corrected you are correct I had soff before that's why I guess it wasn't reset after update

Original recovery and lock oem doesn't help.
Lads,
Would someone give me a hand here please.
There is a major update for HTC One.
I've flashed original recovery and locked back the phone.
Now it's downloading the update, then goes into reboot and opens fastboot bootloader, instead of installing the update.
What am i doing wrong here?
Thanks in advances
Hi,
I have the same problem as OP.
However the instructions in the replies are terribly confusing, I don't even know where to start!
Someone could do a step-by-step summary for less expert (or just android-retarded) people ?
Thanks a lot!

You need to be on stock recovery. Figure that out and you should be good.
Looking at the various guides somehow related to stock recovery doesn't make sense to me.
There's too many things I am not aware of such as how to flash the stock recovery, if the process will wipe all data, what is a fastboot command etc. etc. Has anybody ever created an easy guide to assess the problem?

For the sake of common knowledge and in case it may help other unknowing people like me, I'll post what I did here:
I sort of mixed these two guides: this one and this.
Premise:
A. It was impossible to make this whole thing run on my Win8.1 x64 computer. It would never recognize my Fastboot USB device plugged in. I had to use bloody WINXP x86 on my old-ass netbook....
B. Somehow I still had my fastboot/adb compiled folder that I used back in time to root my HTC at first.
C. My phone was Tampered, Unlocked, with HBOOT (i think 1.44 ?) and most definitely S-OFF I would say ? Still don't know for sure.
D. I updated from 4.1.2 through 4.2 to 4.3.
At the 4.2 upgrade the phone went on black screen twice (1st time at ~25%, and 2nd time after 100% was complete). Panic is useless in that case. I went to the bathroom, blasted the strongest lights I had and exposing the phone to the lights, I pressed the power button til the capacitative buttons blinked. After a while the phone rebooted and resumed exactly from the point it blacked out before.
The update to 4.3 went smooth as oil instead.
This is each step I did, following the quoted guides above:
1. Extract the stock recovery file (should be .img) that can be found in the OTA update firmware.zip file, in the firmware package (in some other thread it's explained the path of this file). Place the file in the folder with your fastboot commands.
2. Make sure fastboot and USB Debugging are unchecked on your phone in power settings>fastboot.
3. Power down phone by holding power button and pressing shut down.
4. Once phone is shut down, power phone into bootloader by holding volume down button and pressing power button.
5. Once in the bootloader navigate until it says fastboot usb (must have phone connected to computer).
6. Open up a command prompt where your fastboot commands are located.
7. Type the following with the filename of the stock recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <filename>
8. Navigate in the bootloader menu to the reboot option to restart your phone.
9. Download the latest SuperSU and place it on your sdcard.
10. Perform the OTA update normally.
11. Once it finishes installing, power down the phone like before and get back to fastboot usb.
12. Flash back the custom recovery using fastboot (I used latest CWM available):
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <filename>
or
Code:
fastboot flash zip <recovery>.zip
13. Then type :
Code:
fastboot reboot
14. Enter recovery by navigating with the volume buttons. Once in recovery, flash the zip of the SuperSU file you previously downloaded.
15. Restart once flashing is complete.

Nope, thank you.
Because you're going to have to wipe EVERYTHING (preferably at least); do a full backup of your stuff (nandroid etc)
Since your phone is S-OFF, make sure you have SuperCID. You don't really need to reflash recovery I guess, unless it's out-of-date or not working properly.
Start your phone in bootloader by typing
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Select "Fastboot" so that it appears in red instead of HBOOT
On your computer, make sure fastboot sees your device, then type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Type
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Download the new firmware.zip
Type
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once it's rebooted on a silver HTC logo, type :
Code:
fastboot flash zip [pathonyourcomputer/firmware.zip]
Wait until it is done on your computer. The green line on the phone will never reach the end.
Type
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Reflash your recovery (I recommend CWM). Might as well play it safe.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery [pathonyourcomputer/recovery.img]
Reboot into recovery (select the option in fastboot)
Wipe data/factory reset (you will loose everythng)
*** If there are files you need to keep, you can always use adb pull to get them out before hand (let's say a nandroid backup or something important)
Wipe Cache partition
Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
Now you have 2 options :
Push
While in recovery, type
Code:
adb push [path/rom.zip] /sdcard/rom.zip
Select "Install zip"
Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Voila ! You should be good to go !
Sideload
Select "Install zip"
Select "Install zip from sideload"
Type
Code:
adb sideload [path/rom.zip]
Voila ! You should be good to go !

Actually what I really want is to switch back and forth from sense roms to GE roms which I was able to do back then when I hadn't converted my one to a GE edition. Having that said I was under the impression that you couldn't flash sense roms once you fully converted over or is that a false assumption? I just want to get back that ability I once had I don't need to go back fully stock stock but just enough where I'm able to run sense roms.

Personally I'd just flash the RUU to make sure everything is up to date. Just put your old CID back. Afterwards, since you have s-off, you can install whatever you want. But I'd start with changing the CID and flashing the RUU. So pretty much do this but with the AT&T RUU.
If you really wanna switch that much, why don't you try this! Seems tailor-made for you haha
I don't know why you'd go through all this trouble. Just flash a Sense rom.
They work fine on GPe firmware. That's what I'm running right now. (I just like the black boot loader. )

[Q] S-On, reboot loop, HBOOT 1.55, need to restore

I've been having some problems recently. I've been wanting to update to Kitkat but I have replaced the stock recovery software with CWM, and thus it doesn't work.
To solve this problem I've figured out that I need to get my claws on an RUU, which I have. Hopefully I've grabbed the right one. It doesn't seem like the RADIO serial-thingy matches though. Device has
Code:
4A.21
whilst the RUU has
Code:
4A.23
.
I've tried using the RUU in fastboot but later figured out that I need to have S-OFF for that. That is currently not the case. I've tried using both Firewater and Rumrunner. According to the instructions I'm required to have the phone on in the usual way. As in, not in the bootloader. The problem is that my phone is stuck in some restart loop. When reaching the PIN-screen it will automatically restart/crash after a few seconds. I can however use the phone as usual during this time. Sometimes, it alerts me with an error.
It also seems like the battery completely empties itself sometimes. This is when trying to restore it, getting in and out from the bootloader and the like.
Here's some software info:
CID: HTC__Y13
MIDN0710000
Bootloader info:
Code:
M7_UL PBT SHIP S-ON RH
Code:
HBOOT-1.55.0000
Code:

Code:
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
Code:

If the RUU is an .exe file, then try placing it in the same folder as your ADB/FASTBOOT files. Plug-in your phone to your PC so that it is recognized on the PC then double click the RUU.exe file. Follow the on-screen instructions. You don't need S-OFF to run an RUU for your phone with the correct CID & MID providing the RUU is the same version or higher.

what is the ruu version you are trying to use (complete file name)?
easiest way: download this guru reset file, its exactly the same version you have on your phone now.
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-62-401-1-zip/
put TWRP 2.6.3.3 (recommended) recovery on your phone
copy the zip to your SDcard
Enter recovery and flash like you would do with a custom rom
in the Aroma installer, select wipe data, install stock recovery, install stock radio when prompted.
This file will put you back to fully stock.

I then tried flashing the latest Android Revolution HD, when I rebooted the phone after intallation, it just stays on the first spash screen. I forgot that I needed to S-off my device. So now, I can only access the bootloader and recovery. The status of my device currently is *Tampered*, Unlocked and S-On with 1.57 Hboot. Also, I can't copy files from my PC to the device. I don't know what to do. I've been reading around but I think I need some concrete advice. Thank you in advance.

Best to start your own thread, but on a quick fix, your problem is CWM, you need to use TWRP recovery to flash that rom, also recommend 2.6.3.3
Tampered and unlocked is normal, nothing to worry about, and you don't need s-off to flash custom rom's, just an unlocked bootloader

Bugger, I have it renamed to RUU.exe and it's md5 doesn't match any file from the site I remember I downloaded it from. I am, however, currently downloading
Code:
RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_O2_UK_4.20.206.16_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353143_signed_2.exe
CID and MID matches, but I didn't buy it in the UK. It was bought in Europe.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. I tried flashing TWRP recovery but when I go into TWRP recovery, my touchscreen doesn't respond. Any thoughts on why? It works when I'm on CWM though.

Did you name that file yourself, that's the wrong file, that one is O2 "206", hence 4.20.206.16 you need 401, 3.62.401.1 which is WWE, the same number under your os information in your first post and the same as the guru reset I linked.

download this file: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-62-401-1-zip/
this is a reset rom
flash it from twrp 2.6.3.3 or from cwm recovery
select to restore stock radio and stock recovery
then you'll be fine to take ota updates.
the file you are currently downloading isnt for your phone.
edit:
well @Seanie280672 already suggested you to do this (just saw his previous post)
will be the easiest and fastest solution in your case.

easiest way: download this guru reset file, its exactly the same version you have on your phone now.
**
put TWRP 2.6.3.3 (recommended) recovery on your phone
copy the zip to your SDcard
Enter recovery and flash like you would do with a custom rom
in the Aroma installer, select wipe data, install stock recovery, install stock radio when prompted.
This file will put you back to fully stock.

TWRP 2.6.3.3 has been flashed and I'm currently downloading the .zip file. Is there a way to put the archive on the device staying in TWRP/Fastboot?

with your phone booted in twrp main menu, and the rom.zip in the same folder of adb.exe and fasboot.exe:
Code:
adb push guru_reset_m7_3.62.401.1.zip /sdcard/
wait for the file to transfer (5-10 min) (there is no progress bar just wait adb to tell you the file transfer is complete)
then in twrp hit "install" and then choose guru_reset_m7_3.62.401.1.zip

Thanks!
On an unrelated side-note; if I "thank" someone in the forum, does that count as an upvote or a complete fix regarding my problem (like StackOverflow works)?

no, hitting the "thank" button doesn't count as an upvote like on other forum. This is only to say thank you to a person who helped you.

The ROM was successfully installed and I'm currently configuring my phone! The phone did not implode when restarting, something I take as a sign of a functional phone! A truckload of thanks for the both of ya!
