I rooted my phone a while back (Note 3) and have Safestrap on it. I checked with root verify and it says it is rooted.
I want to be able to do OTA updates as I don't really want to be rooted any longer or have safestrap on my phone.
Is there a EASY way to remove both/all of it so I no longer get the safestrap screen when it comes on that has the unlocked symbol at the bottom of it. And no longer have a rooted phone ?
Easy way, preferred as I stated before..

Well used Super Su, it says I am no longer rooted. But safestrap still shows on start up
And after I did that I checked for a update. It shows v4.2.2 and no available updates ? WTH.... It showed a update before...
Idk either I unrooted and uninstalled safestrap and factory reset my update trys 2times both times says updated failed
is safestrap realy there. i had the same problem and installed traingle away and it removed the safestrap screen.
To Un-root your phone
You'll need to use Odin. After using Odin it will still say custom after the first boot, just re-boot and you'll be good.
I used Super SU, and unrooted. Did check and it says I am not rooted.
But I think the reason it is failing to install 4.4.4 OTA update, is that the safestrap is interfering with the installation..
So if I want to get safestrap completely off of my phone how do I do that > I have been searching the forum, and still searching,,,
Trying to find Stock Recovery Files for the SM-N900A 4.v if possible.
Then I can install via odin ?

Turn your network time off and switch it to the next day and it shoukd allow you to update again

Lol you might as well not be on xda if you going to go stock with no root. 4.4.4 OTA official is like a death sentence right now. And you will be hitting your forhead wishing you didnt do that later.
But to answer your question, just uninstall safestrap from the app, and use supersu for full unroot. Or just Odin back with NC2 tar files from the threads. Odin back to NC2 should be no problems with the OTA

Well when I had my other Samsung phone I use to install updates all the time, different roms or what ever.
But now I just want to be stock, and knew all the people on this forum do it a lot. So this is where I asked for help...
It is on 4.4.2 and says now that no update is available ? I have already tried the date change trick ! Strange I can't get a update now...Wonder why ?

That is kinda weird in SuperSU did you disable OTA updates?!? But y you want stock 4.4.4 rom, as AT&T note 3 users there may not b a root or boot rom walk around for long time maybe even tell lollipop 5.0 or maybe never cause note 3 has been dead silence since 4.4.4 released almost like people stop using this device an goin to the note 4... Hopefully there will b a note 3 bootloader exploit for AT&T an verizon but idk again looks like main force is note 4
Well not sure how to fix it.
I have unrooted, removed safestrap.
Checked with root app and it says it is not rooted.
But it still won't update.
Took to AT&T tech center after on-line help from them didn't help. He was not able to update it. So I went to Bestbuys Samsung tech section. They hooked it up to their Smart update software, and it would not allow to be updated either. They said it was either rooted or had a foreign version of software on it. Or one of the software apps I had installed was messing it up.
So I again did a hard reset all the way back to stock ? And after setting up as a new phone I did a check for update 4.4.2 was on it and it said no update available......
SO WHAT IS GOING ON ? Is there a 4.4.4v that I can install with the odin, so that hopefully I can get over this bump..,, ?

I now have it setup just how I want it and I don't want an OTA to kill root or change anything so something stops working (phone isn't for me, but I've set it up just right for someone with special needs).
I've read conflicting information on whether or not an OTA will actually install on a rooted phone or not. Some things say that it won't if you've changed anything at all while others say it might be possible.
Is there some system file I can rename or something to ensure the phone doesn't get a system update unless I do it manually?

no matter how many times you will try to update via ota, you will not be able to. if any files change from stock, any at all, you wont be able to install an ota. especially with root.

Will it even attempt to install an update, and if so, does it only attempt once and then give up so you don't get stuck in a loop?
Install a custom recovery. Done. OTAs require the stock recovery in order to flash files.

itll only attemp if you let it(it needs your approval to update), otherwise itll only tell you that an update is available. if you let it, itll try, but fail. if you boot up, youll be where you were before.
Apparently I rooted it incorrectly because it was able to update. I just got a call and the phone had rebooted and went through optimizing X of X apps and now many of the tasker profiles I had set are no longer working.
It wouldn't have optimized a bunch of apps if it hadn't updated the OS, or no?

you can always look at your android version in aboy phone, to see if it updated or not.

You'll find update or not optimizing apps happens a lot especially if you clear cache etc...
Your fine otas can't install with root
Just flash twrp it will cone in handy incase you brick it one day you'll have twrp to fastboot fix or sideload a rom to recover from.
ONE NOTE: Never ever ever relock your bootloader with the toolkit you'll be screwed. Always leave bootlaoder unlocked. I just had to rma manufacturer phone replacement I relock mine with toolkit and couldn't flash stock firmware or oem unlock again.

I'll take a look the next time I get over there. It's not my phone, I just set it up for someone with accessibility issues and wanted it to stay the same as the day I set it up but apparently it's not done that.

Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB

Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

Turn off automatic date and time and manually advance it by a day, and try again.
When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.
im not rooted, performed a factory reset, and my device still doesn't see any updates. Can somebody provide a link to the ROM?

The OTA gets downloaded to /cache. If you are rooted you can see it. But the OTA is not a complete ROM, just a differential to the ROM you have.

I've reset several time and cannot download the update. I get "Connecting to DM Server" and then update interrupted. Has anyone gotten around this?

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')
#1-"com.tmobile.pr.adapt (10001) has been granted superuser permissions for an interactive shell" pops up on my screen every 30 seconds on the bottom of my screen in a grey box.
#2- i also noticed that i can accept and recieve calls but i can not hear, nor can the other person hear me. if i use hangouts video call, skype, etc it works fine.
#3-i also tried to get rom manager to make a recovery and it says it needs to get CWD recovery to install a new software, the first thing we need to do is install a up to date version, we will begin that process now... etc.. then it says to get started you must first sset up a custom recovery, it gives two options a samsung galaxy s3 on metro pcs or a samsung previal 2 on boost mobile, or device not listed, when i click that it says "SM-G920T does not have an officially supported CWDR yet. Have you installed a CWD based recovery manually?" so im not sure what to do from there, or if i even need that. i have been a iphone user since day one went to android after reading up a lot on it, although rooting is quite different than jailbreaking it seems, i am incredibly excited to get started if i can get past these little problems and get started and figure everything out. ANY advice, or anwsers to these problems would be Greatly appreciated! thanks!
Also i went to dev options in settings and noticed the "OEM unlocking- allow the bootloader to be unlocker" was turned off, i dont know if this is necessary to root if i did something wrong by not turning it on or what, or if it may fix any problems above if i turn it on now. thanks!
I have a samsung Galaxy S6 (SM_G920T) . i Rooted and did not trip Knox, Although i did just remember that my fingerprint sensor is not working either.

#1 Freeze that ****. Use some root tool to freeze that T-mobile apk, seems u gave it root permissions at some point. I believe there are a lot of apps that you will want to do the same.
#2 ? No idea. Stock rom/kernel?
#3 What is this I don't even. Don't do that. Go to TWRP's official web, get your zeroflte (SM-GT920T) twrp and flash it via ODIN, or else get the recovery.img and use flashify. All that assuming you want a custom recovery.
You will need to unlock the bootloader if you are on 5.1.1. I believe locked will prevent changes or wiping anything on the OS partitions, even recovery (can someone confirm?)
I believe jailbraking and rooting should be pretty much similar, if not the same, as both target to grant the user root access to do whatever he pleases on the OS.

How did you root? Sounds like you used the modified sboot which causes no sounds in calls and nonfunctional fingerprint scanner. If so, flash back to stock and use a different rooting method. The rest, pretty much what the above poster stated

I rooted using the version that I found the only one that works it seemed like, went to Odin put my phone In download mode and then put the boot loader download in BL and the. Put a something unikernel.sbin I believe, whatever the guide said also then it was done. I thought you couldn't use the twrp or custom recovery etc on tmobile one yet but I just read a thing about xtrestolite odex pure v2 which says it's for 5.1.1 and my model of phone but in the guide it says to root using CF auto root and a link there to it but the link doesn't have my phone on the list that the guide that clearly is my phone says to use I don't know if I'm missing something but I want to use it I understand most of it but I don't know if I need to unropt first and re root then use Odin and flash twrp that's supported on my phone then use that to recover the rom. Etc. The kernel that says is used in the guide is the same one I downloaded so do I need to remove it all then let it do that or?
Sorry if this didn't make sense I'm halfway there between confused and understood I have spent the last 10 hours reading and trying to figure this out though lol. Thanks guys!

Just flash the 5.1.1 firmware to return to stock. To root, flash unikernel with Odin. The other method you used was to not trip knox, but as you experienced has side effects. I had to Odin back to 5.1.1 myself. Can't have those issues

Yes, flashing to 5.1.1 works exactly like that. You need to get the version for your model (very important on this one) and then simply place that file in the AP field of ODIN while the device is in recovery mode. It is normal for ODIN to freeze for 2 minutes while verifying. Make sure to use a MD5 checker tool on the firmware before flashing.
Rooting has historically required more technical savvy and balls than jailbreaking, but PingPong made rooting the S6 brain-dead simple. CF-Auto root is still pretty painless, but you must make sure you have the right zip for your device.
Anyhoo, the quickest & easiest way to restore phone calls & fingerprint scan is to use Odin to get back to bone stock.
Next, use PingPong to root. After rooting, "com.tmobile.pr.adapt" will ask for root access. That is T-Mobile's "phone home" app and sends info about your device (probably including root status). Deny it root access and make sure you check "Remember my choice", and it won't bother you again. You will not lose any functionality by denying it root, so terminate that crap.
Don't bother with rom manager. CWM is archaic. If you want a custom recovery, use TWRP. You can install TWRP either using Odin or TWRP Manager app (it's free).

Are you still rooted? If so, and if you are experiencing the call audio issue, go flash AOU's kernel. He has made a kernel for the tmo s6. that should eliminate your call audio issue. The finger print scanner is the only issue with flashing his kernel. Also, I rooted with the modded sboot, his TWRP and kernel, and I didn't trip knox

No, it fails to install. You need to reflash the stock boot image to take an OTA.

I'm Sorry i'm so nooby in this regard.
So do you mean i have to basically get the stock ROM back again.
Then I can re-root like i did with the earlier version?

Yes. Razer's update engine doesn't seem to have the option to download full images like some other OEMs, so only fully stock ROM can be upgraded.
On that note, Razer seems to have set a week as the delay for releasing factory images, so if you want to keep root you might want to wait after an OTA, though we may be able to reproduce a slot earlier if someone captures the OTA package (but it's not as verifiable of course)

WARNING: This file is really intended for a developer to use in making a rooted slot. Flashing the file below could? remove root or cause other issues if you're rooted. Brick maybe? Although, mostly likely, it won't flash at all if you are rooted.
I used adb to capture the Razer Phone 2 MR2 OTA. It's located here.
I also downloaded it... but figure y'all would prefer a link straight to the Google source
SHA1 is the file name so you can verify it. E9F494FACBF8B7A6DF32F342C84459A7051ACE24

So With this. You can root, AND if they have any Update for the phone in the future, I can Update it without losing my root?

Not quite... The update will likely fail to apply due to checksum failures. If it did go through it would probably brick the kernel so that's a good thing. Sorry, there's not really a way to automatically root after official OTAs as they update block by block between two known states, and neither is rooted. It's just sort of not possible, by design. You have to unroot, update and root again.
The OTA package translucentfocus has provided allows us to reproduce a single slot before the week's wait for the factory image so we can root sooner.

Sorry, I didn't specify. It's the MR2 update for the Razer Phone 2. Original reply has been also updated with version information in bold.
How to update? Actually, I posted the OTA because it's really for someone to make a slot with root before Razer releases the Factory MR2 Images--as @CurtisMJ mentioned previously.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but just a few questions if you don't mind.
I just bought a used Razer 2 seems like the user rooted it (I was unaware) and it has been years since I rooted anything. I downloaded root checker and it said I was rooted. I assume I'm running the stock rom, though magisk manager was installed on the phone when I turned it on so I guess it's not stock. I guess this means I can not take any OTA or it could brick? I went into system update and it still checked to make sure I was up to date so maybe OTA isn't disabled? So much has changed with apps and rooting since I messed with it that I don't know enough and I don't want to brick or bootloop the device.

Yes, that sounds about right. When rooted the OTA function doesn't disable right away. Only after its downloaded an update and actually tries to apply it it'll refuse. The new Android update engine is pretty good at not bricking. My guess is probably stock. If it's rooted, then the bootloader is unlocked, and it's not too bad. For magisk root at least all you need to do is flash the stock boot image and the OTA will apply. With factory images around and an unlocked bootloader you'll have a hard time bricking it. Just don't untick "OEM Unlocking" in developer options. Ever. (Or at least until you've fully restored stock firmware. It's supposed to be disabled so you can't make that mistake but Magisk hide tricks the firmware into believing the bootloader is locked so it's enabled. Whaddayagonnado)

Thanks for the detailed response I managed to get up with the previous owner on swappa last night. He told me he unlocked the phone but never actually got around to rooting it. He also said it is running stock and the reason magisk is still on the phone after a wipe is because magisk persists after a wipe.

Sorry about that, I did unlock the bootloader but I never actually got around to rooting. I usually relock the bootloader before I sell it but I completely forgot. You can apply an ota because I never installed a custom recovery, something else I didn't get around to doing. You can easily relock the bootloader using adb. If you need help with this let me know and I can walk you through it. But the bootloader being unlocked has zero effect on ota's. You are all good to go as far as that goes.
Oh no you're absolutely fine with an ota. I just looked it up and you're absolutely right, magisk does survive a reboot now. Since I didn't load a custom recovery though an ota will install just fine. Although when an ota does install though it will most likely remove magisk because it will write over the boot.img with the factory one. Here is the link to the factory images. It includes instructions on how to install it. But honestly a new ota should be released any time now since the last one I think was November. Once that installs you will be completely back to stock.

Magisk does indeed persist through a data wipe. I wasn't aware magiskinit could unpack the manager APK though. Neat

The RP2 uses the new A/B update scheme. In this case it doesn't matter whether a custom recovery was ever installed. Recovery mode is not used during the process of installation. Unfortunately the new update scheme is also heavily based on deltas, even on the kernel image, so OTAs will be broken as it won't be able to retrieve a full kernel image from the OTA servers. Some OEMs' ROMs can do that, but Razer's can't. You can flash the factory images if you truly want a clean start, but to fix OTAs and remove magisk, reflashing just the kernel image with one from the factory image should be sufficient. The magisk uninstaller won't work due to the data wipe so that's probably the only option.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to flash the unlocked Razer phone 2 firmware to the AT&T version. Would the bootloader need to be unlocked?

Yes, that will return it to stock and remove Magisk. No, if you flash the factory image you don't need to do anything further with the kernel.

The bootloader needs to be unlocked, yes. I had the unlocked one from the start, so I can't comment on how well that will work though.
Has anyone with an AT&T version successfully flashed unlocked firmware?
