I read a recent article that made claims that our beloved N5's should be able to allow us to chit chat for yogi up to 17 hours!
Anyone ever got over 5-6?
Where do they get these specs? Is there an updated uranium battery i'm not aware of?

1. its probably supposed to say 7h
2. the nexus 7 doesnt have "talk time" as its a tablet that diesnt come with a dialer.
3. i wouldnt believe anything that culturemob.com writes.
Nexus 7 talk time is hilarious ? ?. The actual specs are in the google play store and it does list 17 hours of talk time.

I've hit 7 and then my phone died. But it was literally a 7h phonecall.

Anandtech pegged it at 13.7 hours talk time. The official technical specifications list 17 hours.

No phone usually lives up to its "specced" battery times. Usually.

It does have the official specs at 17 hours talk time. I don't know how that's possible though.

That's clear cut deceptive selling. I think I might threaten a class action to have a full refund and save my money for the N6. Maybe they might learn to stop lying.

Did you notice the * besides that claim and the accompanying disclaimer?
You can try to sue every other manufacturer while you're at it too, lol. You didn't actually think Nexus was the first to "stretch the truth" in this way, did you? They can put the devices in low powered operation that normal users would never attempt to get those numbers
The 14 hours that Anandtech got is much more realistic and still that is with extra niceties all disabled.

Lol! I was kidding. I've accepted that corporations and government have carte blanche to lie about everything and believe that is acceptable behavior... and the kicker is that we allowed them to create this scenario!
I can't wait to get 23 hours screen time on the new N6!
Gotta remember ....whoever makes the N6 (Motorola? ) won't let the nexus be as good as their flagship.....and battery is always gonna be an obvious "skimp" item. To cut costs and sell the nexus cheap.

Well I lied. It was two phone calls. It was a 3h phonecall with my friend.. then a 4h phonecall with ANZ (no Time warner down here!)/
These numbers are based on the device running 100% stock and with 0 non stock apps running services in a very good service area if not on wifi.. so essentially the perfect storm.
People are consistently getting their N5 and other devices to over 5 and 6 hours of S.O.T. so I can see it being totally plausible to see insane spec times on a tablet with a much bigger battery.

My N7 2012 goes about 6 days with 6 to 7 hour screen times. But it also sleeps with a drain of less than 0.1 percent per hour. I think it's cause there's hardly anything on it....everything is off, it stays on wifi constantly, and has no radio. I think if it were the 3g model, and not in airplane mode....the radio at least would drain it a bit more.
But yeah....batteries can do much better than most phones currently have. Standby drain will always degrade tho with more features running and radio signal strength for sure.
Can't see phone battery life getting much better than say an lg g2, or Droid maxx or something. Unless the phones get even bigger or battery technology improves so you get more bang at a smaller size.
Guess time will tell.

The demand is certainly there. I think we're seeing more of a focus on battery life with current phones. By using fast CPUs and LTE radios tasks can be completed and get to idle much quicker than before.
Where I'd like to see more progress is from software developers. Many apps and games are draining more than they require and don't focus on optimizing.

hey everybody, i wasnt sure where i should ask this question but here we go.
My dad is looking for a new phone, looking at the moto x or nexus 4 because theyre pretty much the same price and ive always wanted the moto x. I have a nexus 4 now and hes thinking on buying the moto x and swapping it for my nexus 4. would you guys recomend me doing it? im having some doubts and i will list them now
doubts about swapping:
i love the nexus 4 design
i love how the nexus 4 has a android L preview and will get updates quick
i love the choice of roms, kernels and all sorts.
when i had a moto g (as a temp phone) to be able to use hangouts you had to have the text messaging app on as well, which i didnt like in the slightest. also the phone app didnt have the search feature like the nexus does.
Reasons to swap:
i like the smaller bezzles of the moto x
i like the features
i like how its faster
i like how the battery is better
i like how the speaker doesnt flicker like the nexus 4
better camera
better front camera
no snapchat reboots
(smoother?)
how it doesnt heat up and throttle like the nexus
I've searched and searched but nothing really answers my question, they just compare price and stuff but price isnt a problem. What do you guys recommend? Thanks.
If you want to flash lots of things, nexus. If not....moto x.
Easy decision when you decide that.
But N4? Why not N5? Price is comparable to the X.
The Moto X is probably in reality better than the N4 in every way. But a flashing enthusiast will get bored with the X....like I did. Now my wife has it. Also, some X's don't have unlockable bootloader.
My advice is always....want roms and mods...like to tinker...then N5....if not, moto X. Its a great phone!

The devices I own are in my signature. And the Moto X, I'm my opinion, is the most polished device I've used. And best radio signal strength as you expect from Motorola. I'd still have mine....but I like to tinker to much. Lol
My wife had an iPhone 4s. Then an S2. Went back to her 4s. And said she wanted an iPhone 5s. Then she played with my moto x and loved it. I gave it to her and got an N5...to play with. I asked her a month later if she still wanted a 5s.....she said nope. She never wants another iPhone.
She may want the next X tho.

A vote for the Moto X. I've bought a handful of phones of the years (HTC, Samsung, LG, Nokia, Moto), a few for myself and more for my family members. The Moto X stands ahead of the others for quality, ruggedness and design.
In fact, just for fun I did T-Mobile's 7-day iPhone 5s test drive last week, and I returned it a day early. I wanted to get back to my Moto X. (And I'm a Mac fanboy, by the way.)
That said, I do miss flashing ROMs the way I did on my HTC Sensation. But I probably get more actual use out of my phone now.

You are obviously right.
I did throw the N5 name in there tho. ?
Why Nexus 4? Why you picked that? Where I live Nexus 5 and X are of almost same price (N5 being slightly higher), and in UK the price is almost same if I am not wrong, unless you are in a contract. N4 is quite outdated, old.
Moto X definitely. Chose it over Nexus 5. The reasons have been said already, a lot of times, still repeating, Active display, AMOLED, Ergonomics and Size, Call quality, Speaker phone quality, and of course the performance. While with Nexus you will get the fastest Android out there at the moment because of better hardware, and a bigger display with more resolution, but it's IPS, so it's dull, call quality can never match X's, everyone knows how the speaker is on the N5, no active display, if that matters to you, and last but not the least an extremely fragile device.
If there were a phone at X's size, with S5's display, Z2/1020's camera and G3's hardware then I would probably let myself switch off from browsing mobile related websites for six months.
So I have a moto x right now and just loved the active display function. Very good battery life and smoother. Just my opinion.
I've had a N4 before and there's no comparison when pitted against the Moto X. Almost everything about the X is better than the N4 and N5.

thank you! im about to go to the shop now
I wouldn't say the X is better than the N5, just bought a N5 after having my moto x for almost a year, the major difference is development for N5 kicks azz while the moto x development just sucks. Both phones have there advantages and disadvantages, yes moto did a good job on the firmware side but for those who run custom Roms and the such the N5 rocks. Sorry moto ,nexus devices are always going to be in my pocket from this day forward
Moto X to a Nexus 5
I have 1 year left on my contract and on my S4, but I use none of the special S4 features and am tired of a locked down phone. I am thinking of moving over to a moto X, and was just hoping for any and all feedback.
X+1
I am waiting for the Sept 4th announcement to do anything, But I expect the X + 1 dev edition to cost too much (anything much over $500 and I will be seriously thinking, over $600 and I am out for sure.)
I am hoping to have the new phone I get cost roughly similar to a new phone on contract after I subtract the money made by selling my nearly mint S4 (hoping $250-$300?)
About me:
I don't play games, I just need web browsing, FB, music player, view the occasional document, ect..
I am not an obsessive flasher. I want root/custom recovery to give me the option of managing my own updates. Mostly having a recent OS and the option to flash minor modifications such as offered by xposed framework or stock based roms is my biggest concern.
I use none of my touchwiz fanciness, automated things that go off automatically tend to annoy me (not sure about that voice control in this regard though it sounds cool),
Why Moto x?
Active display, Moto's payment plan, unlocked BL, as well as the "grown up" focus on solid performance and ergonomics is what appeal to me. My S4's specs already seem to be more then I need, and if the Moto X can be as snappy or more then my S4 while giving me an up to date phone for the next year and a half I will be content. (Should be out of school and making decent money by then?)
Why not s4?
I feel like the S4 has more flash then I can appreciate, while being slightly uncomfortable, having annoyingly poor build quality and a fairly bleak future for the modding community... And that at least for now I could move to a moto X for the cost of a new contract phone, but with out contract and with an unlocked bootloader to boot.
Not sure on this one though, and a little worried about being happy still with a Moto X a year from now... So trying to get a wide variety of opinions on this.

It is VZ, but I thought the Maxx was no longer available as a dev edition?
If I didn't make it clear enough, the majority of the reason I am getting rid of the S4 is jumping through hoops with updates, and wanting a device that is guaranteed unlocked on Verizon.

yeah it looks like I just missed the $324 but I am going to call up and talk with customer service to see what they can do. Just waiting to hear back about the moto playment plan.
Can you talk more about the differences in your experience with each device? Just kind of general which one you like more and how the moto has been... I like what I hear about reception, seems like mine is never quite good enough.
I pretty much use the phone like you, I like my S 4 mdk for battery life and tweeks with custom kernel, but Samsung radio's have poor reception. I've owned Motorola phones in the past reception has always been good with moto. This is why I purchased.

I feel the X screen is too dim/variable compared to the Maxx. Root is not necessary on the Maxx, to me, anyway.

Signal is great on any Moto.
I love my VZW X DE. Had a non-DE maxx, sold it cause i lost root after taking 4.4
Performance and battery life are awesome. Im sure this device will please me for at least the next year, or until i have enough spare cash to justify an upgrade
One thing to note, is that if the O.P. browses through the development forums for the Moto X, there are not very many ROM's. If you love to flash something new every few days, then you might be disappointed.
However, the reason that there aren't very many ROM's is because the stock experience is so good - for the things you listed - active display, Moto Assist, etc. that don't work in AOSP based Rom's. A stock, debloated ROM with xposed is really all that is needed to have a fantastic device!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Moto X dev editions get cheap again after the Sept 4th press conference, or at the very least, I expect Swappa/Ebay to have several after that date Maybe even mine
I just switched from an S4 to a Moto X developer and I am very pleased. I took advantage of the $324 sale they had on the Moto X developer edition.

Currently Moto X 2013 (Mark it 2013 i plan in 2014) is ongoing stock clearance sell. Being sold without Adapter on Rs. 17999 (300$ Approx.) after that i don't think it would come again then for sell. I should make my decision in 1 week AFAP. My preferred budget is 250$-400$ (15000-25000 Rs.) for smartphone. :cyclops:
For Moto X 2013 Only negative points i think is Old Smartphone, Low Processing Power and Non-expandable memory. :crying: Positive and most liked points are Pure Android, Latest Version, Motorola, Something different than Poor Samsung
I welcome other questions to improve your reply for selection of smartphone. Please be Fast,
Thanks, :victory:
I just got one for my sister on a flash sale discount. I wouldn't say it has low processing power—1.7 Ghz dual-core/Adreno 320/2GB RAM is still on the high end and will run the most resource-intensive apps smoothly for the next 2 years or so. It's only a 720p screen, so as far as 3D games go, better hardware wouldn't do much.
The real downsides are as you said, no expansion slot, and battery life isn't that great either. But even at full price it's great value right now.
Got one for $250 USD brand new. These past few months I've been purchasing "old" phones since the prices have dropped dramatically. Also bought an xperia z ultra $300 brand new. It´s all about the size, because the devices are practically the same.
If you are into development, then it would be an obvious answer to go for the Nexus 6.
It is safe to presume, at this point, that the Moto Turbo *could* have a bunch of development in a short period of time. The Nexus 6 has a lot of development already.
Personally, the feel of the Turbo and the battery life make it superior in hardware.
From what has been said of the Moto Maxx variants, they are all bootloader unlockable on Motorola's Bootloader Unlock page. (I can't confirm this)
If you look at how many potential developers that puts out there, I think you will agree it won't be long before there is a substantial of development for the Moto Turbo.
Both are great phones. If you hold both and use them for a few minutes as I did, you will probably find you prefer one over the other. Battery life was also a deciding factor for me.
Hope that helps, man.
I already made that decision. I bought the Moto Turbo because it was the smaller variant being tested to be the Nexus 6 as late as mid-August. It's what should have been the Nexus 6, instead of the 6" tablet Google released as a phone. Nexus smartphone numbers (as opposed to the tablets) were always GENERATION, not screen size. So, no the Nexus 6 did NOT have to be 6" display.
Having used both now, both are wonderful devices. That being said, I will be trading my turbo for a nexus though, I prefer the screen size
Heading to VZ right now to get Nexus. Droid Turbo getting sold. I will miss the battery but oh well. Thinking about keeping both and switching between them.
I have a Moto X 2014 and a Moto Maxx. The Nexus 6 is just too big for me. I still can't decide which I prefer between the X and Maxx. If they had the same features I'd prefer the X, but the Maxx has the better battery and wireless charging - I love wireless charging!
The Moto X is thinner then the Moto Maxx/Droid turbo/Moto Turbo.
Modified Nexus 6...
I think my dream phone is a:
5.5" nexus 6 with Moto apps compatibility & 3900 mAh battery,
that I love both Nexus 6 & Motorola Droid Turbo (Moto Maxx) ^_^
I have a nexus 6 sitting unused on my nightstand... Haven't touched it since getting the Turbo.
I think the nexus is just too big. Not for me.
Moto turbo of course

To me the answer depends on 2 questions. 1. How much do you care about development? 2. How big of a screen do you want?
If development is very important to you, that will make the Nexus 6 a better choice. Root is supposed to be released at some point today (3/25) for the Turbo, but there is still no indication that the bootloader will ever be unlocked which will severely limit the potential development for this device if it never comes.
The screen size is also important. At times, the Turbo even feels slightly too large in my opinion. This was the biggest deciding factor for me. I simply don't want a phone as big as the Nexus 6 so the decision was easy for me. For some people, the Nexus is a comfortable size. Spend some time with both to decide which is best for you.

I see you posting this about calling it a tablet. Then you should call the note series a tablet also. This phone once your used to it isnt that bad to hold. The nexus numbers has nothing to do with the size, they are just the numbers kinda like what apple does with Iphone 5 and on. The nexus six is perfect all around, and for you to sit here and to say that its not is hogwash. Before you put a complaint out. Why not try one. There is a reason why moto went another direction with the nexus is because the turbo is an exclusive for verizon. Meaning that if the turbo is "supposed" to be a nexus as you claim that verizon would have to allow a unlock.
These kind of post you put on here are silly because I bet u never tested one. From all the complaints I see about the turbo and its brothers (what you have) there isnt much developement, and there more than likely wont be because most major developers went with the nexus. The moto maxx you have has been out for a while and yet u only have twrp which isnt official, and the nexus has been out alittle after the maxx and its developement is booming.
The nexus 6 is an all around phone, and developement is getting better. The maxxx not even a rom, just a twrp that from i read isn't even being updated now because a complaint from the developer that no one is recognizing him for it.
If i was this OP I would most defiantely go for the nexus. Be way happier.
Oh and before u comment I have both phones (nexus 6 and and the turbo). Battery life is only judge on the user. For both devices for me they are equal because of my usage. To say one phone battery is better just because of the specs is incorrect. I get the most time out of both and they are equal (1.5 days with 5.5 hours screen time).

I've held a NEXUS 6. It's too big to use as a phone. End of discussion.
The Droid Turbo is not exclusive to Verizon. At least the phone is not, just the name. Verizon doesn't even have exclusive selling rights in the USA.
The Moto Maxx has a custom ROM. WHERE have you been? Maybe you should read up before posting.

Well, you're wrong. Verizon marketing lies.
Phone with same FCC ID, same bands is being sold in the USA as the XT1250. Go do some research. I've proved it many times.

Where is this custom CM12 when its yet to be released? also its an unofficial cm12. Again from the post I read hasnt even been finished or completed. Get your facts straight man. Stop posting saying that turbo isnt an exclusive when it is.

The name is exclusive to Verizon, not the PHONE. CM12 is official.
Never was exclusive to Verizon.

Lol dude u just contradicted yourself
I am done with this petty argument when u think your always right when your not. You possibly have one rom, and thats it. If you do, but again the droid turbo is a verizon exclusive like it or not. Your device is limited

Have a nice day and do some research. Sorry you can't accept the facts.
You didn't even know about CM12. Maybe you should read some of the Development threads...

OMG one rom what is everyone going to do lol. Also I done my research and thats why i have the nexus 6. Far superior and more developement than the exclusive turbo which u claim isnt and that verizon just pulling marketing lies. enjoy the one rom dude lol
Also the Moto MAXX and the Turbo are not the same device. Different name and different device number. Just because the specs are the same doesnt make the identical. As I also recall the MAXX doesnt have HD calling or data over calling. Not the same devices buddy. No need to post your unnecessary post thinking they are alike. They are both different devices
