[Q] DirectStylus Support - Asus Transformer TF701

The TF701 has a Tegra 4 and DirectStylus is supported on Tegra 4 tablets. I was wondering if it is possible to use the palm rejection technology that it implements as I am looking to upgrade from my TF101, and was hoping to have a integrated keyboard and perhaps stylus support for school related things.
Thanks in advance.

[HELP][INFO] Jazelle JVM ROM from BenQ E72 for Touch HD ?

Hi,
First, some background informations (skip this if you don't care) : as a Touch HD owner and java developer, I tried to develop some J2ME GUI, with 3D, etc...But the embedded JVM (Esmertec) is really terrible : poor performances, buggy (ellipse drawing function)... unusable for (let's say) 3D GUI
Looking at the MSM7201, I saw that this processor include Jazelle technology, allowing to execute java bytecode "on-the-chip" (so, hopefully, really fast). But I guess that the included Esmertec JVM doesn't use it (maybe Esmertec didn't buy the license to ARM).
In a wonderful world, Sun would have provided an optimized Jazelle-enabled JVM for WM but... it's a cruel world.
Looking at Jazelle pages at http://www.arm.com/markets/mobile_solutions/armpp/21938.html, I saw that the BenQ E72 is
WM6.1
has a Jazelle JVM
So I'm starting to hope... Is it possible to dump the BenQ E72 ROM, get the JVM and use it on the Touch HD ?
After all, on the processor side... it's compatible ! And the graphic part is surely implemented through WM API.
Other recent phone using jazelle technology is listed in the right column at http://www.arm.com/products/multimedia/java/jazelle.html
Any thought is welcomed...
Wow, this sounds very interesting.
exciting and really interesting...
Hoping it will fix our problems with Java-Esmertec...
Mate, Jazelle is for ARM processors.
HTC is using Qualcomm platform and I don't think any Jazelle HW is included.
Where have you seen that?

hi????
hi ,this is
The sad thing is there is no proper Java (both ME and SE) support for Windows Mobile. Esmertec is the best you can have - its the only supporting M3G but only in software mode. You can easily forget JSR239 (OpenGL ES) support on WM. This would be technically possible with J9 because it supports JNI. You could try to port JOGL or LWGL for J9 but it takes time.
You can try MySaifu - it is in its early stages (for a long time now ) and it tries to be full Java SE JVM with hw accelerated Java3D. But it is very unstable and you propably will encounter many problems with running simple Hello World for it.
On the bright side the JavaFX virtual machine based on HotSpot recently hit WM. It will have support for hardware acceleration and currently you can run midlets on it in software.
I did not try hard but quick google search on BenQ E72 does not confirm that it has JVM with Jazelle support. The link you provided also does not confirm this. Sorry for destroying your hopes.

Future for Optimus 2X

I'm a bit concerned about the future of this phone.
1. From what I understand, Android doesn't take full advantage of dual cores before version 2.4, do you think 2X will get an update?
2. I've seen news about the Tegra 3 being just around the corner, is there any chance they'll put more focus on that and stop optimizing games and apps for the Tegra 2?
I'm no expert, and don't know a lot about the Tegra chipsets (or chipsets in general) so some info would be nice.
What do you think, is there a bright future for the Optimus 2X?

The user response for this product will show how bright future it has, from what I see many people are interested in it, including Paul O'Brien
It should certainly get the next update, and remember that Tegra 2 is going into a lot of tablets at the moment as well. This phone should be fairly future-proof.

The Tegra 2 was presented a year ago and it's just now that it's actually coming in devices so I wouldn't expect any Tegra 3 until spring 2012 as the earliest.

Yep, will be cool to have Modaco Custom ROM and Modaco Custom Kernel
Tegra 3 (Quad Core Kal-el) has been announced for tablets in Q4 2011.
I think it's pretty safe to say that it'll be delayed just like Tegra 2 until Q1/Q2 2012. Manufacturers and NVIDIA will want to get the most they can out of dual core first, before they introduce new technology into the market, as it'll just cannibalize their own sales.
It was really a very good future if updated because tegra 2 is very powerful

[Q] Alternate OSs

This thing appears to have the same specs as the Surface 2, other than the screen res. Anyone know of any plans for a Windows RT ROM for the TF701T?
Had anyone ever made a Windows RT rom for any device?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Don't think anyone wants too. Windows RT is generally shunned by most people, and with the price of the pro tablets dropping, I don't really see the point in it.
Just my opinion, and I could be completely wrong
Sent from my Venue 8 3830 using XDA Premium HD app
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think windows RT is open source.

Windows RT is a proprietary product of Microsoft and is closed source in every way. Distributing Windows RT without Microsoft’s consent is a sure-fire way to get yourself in jail for infringing on Microsoft’s intellectual property rights. I suspect it will also be almost impossible to make Windows RT run on any Android devices without the help of Microsoft. Furthermore, Windows RT requires UEFI secure boot, which is not available on the tf701.
On a less relevant note, except for Microsoft Office, there is zero reason for me to use Windows RT. Windows 8.1 devices are already cheap enough. If one day Intel and AMD manage to produce low-power SoCs that are powerful enough to run Photoshop and Excel, there will be no need for Windows RT then.

Agreed.
I had a Surface RT for one month. Not only did it suck - couldn't do much on it, the touch screen died, so I sent it back and upgraded to a surface pro which has been much better on the whole.
Ubuntu
And what about Ubuntu on tablets? Anyone tried it?
Ubuntu touch dual boot
Would be really interested in Ubuntu touch dual boot for the tf701t if anyone is up for it.

Nope sold it and bought a proper laptop
You won't find a windows ROM on the TF701 but did you hear what ASUS is going to release at the end of March? The Transformer Book Duet TD300. Its a dual boot Android/Windows tablet. Looks sick.
Transformer Book Duet TD300 specs.
Dual-OS - Windows 8.1 Standard / Android 4.2.2
13.3-inch Full HD IPS multi-touch display
Up to Intel® Core™ i7 processor
4GB DDR3L 1600 RAM
Up to 128GB SSD in Tablet
Up to 1TB HDD in Dock
38WHr battery, estimated battery life around 5 hours in Windows 8.1 and 6 hours in Android 4.2.2.
802.11ac Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR
Tablet ports: Micro SD card, Headphone jack, DC jack
Keyboard dock ports: 1 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0, 10/100Mbit/s LAN, HDMI 1.4, audio combo jack, DC jack
http://www.asus.com/us/News/hnzqzGZ8TfSnrQTo
a few sites listed this as going to cost 599. Not a bad price for those specs. I would return my tf701 right now for that if it came out already. But based on those "Up to..." parts in the specs I bet there will be different variations. i7 with 128 gb SSD and 1 TB HD will most likely be over 1,000.
Alternate OS
Hi.
I'm sorry, my English is very bad because I'm from Ukraine.
I will buy this tablet, but I want to have Ubuntu. Tablet+Android = Tablet, Tablet+Dock+Ubuntu = Laptop, I think. I like Linux.
Here is guide about porting Ubuntu, but I need source code.
Here is only kernel's code, as I understand it. Is Asus submit full source code, or no?
Thank you.

That's really interesting! Perhaps, would can made multiboot - Android and Ubuntu (or other distro). But, I think, also need drivers for Wi-Fi, USB, and other peripheral devices.

Linux for Tegra
Thank you.
I think, your links will help me. In all, different between tf700 and tf701 isn't big. I discuss this problem in one Russian forum too. If I'll can make dual-boot at this tablet, I surely write here.
We have console quality gaming in a 10 inch tablet. How low can you go as far as optimization. No limit. Compile it yourself. Or jam some disease like windows rt in. Make a Apple Android out of it. No thanks.
You can use debian kit. Not sure how it is with UI.
Well if i had the tf701t we could be having some linux fun, but i went the asus t100 route. There really should be very little to have to do to get a multiboot. All dual boot scripts from the tf700 should work (just maybe need partitions modified) The kernel shouldn't need really any modification to boot, Its all really in the ramdisk.

[Q] List of phones ported to WP8

In the search for a new phone, I was wondering what phones already have been ported to WP8. Does anyone know where to find a list of phones that has been ported, in particular, to WP8?
Welcome!
Grand total: 0
No phones have had Windows Phone 8 ported on them AFAIK.
Here is a list of genuine WP8 devices.
Also Windows Phone 8.1 is due for release this month so there will shortly be new handsets announced.
You can argue that the ATIV S is basically a Galaxy S3 with WP8 instead of Android, but they still aren't exactly the same (though very, very close).
Also, you port an OS (or any other kind of software) to a platform (such as a phone), not the other way around...
does windowphone8 ported on HD7?
Its not possible to port WP8 on any device.

Actually, when WP8 was first released, a group of developers ported Windows Phone 8 to the HTC HD2, but it was never released because of multiple issues (storage was one I think)
Considering that the HD2 doesn't even reach the RAM of the minimum, low-memory WP8 handsets, I'm not surprised. It also wouldn't be very fast, single core at 1GHz.
Still, it's impressive that they managed at all. Not a single one of the platforms that the HD2 (or anything like it) was built to support run NT...

Hi GDTD, I think you're right, but what about the new MS's choice of decreasing the minimum rewuisites for its machines?
I'm not an expert, but I think it would be applied also for wp8

How close are we to running Android 5.x on the new Raspberry Pi 3 ?

Now that we've got a quad-core 64 bit processor, as well as many handset connections and do-dads, are we any closer to a serviceable Android port for current releases?

Android is able to run also on Raspberry Pi 1, it is not a problem about SoC.. As we can see there are no Devs able to port Android to Raspberry Pi.

I'm actually interested in doing that. Just got my RBP3 and I will give a try and hopefully learn something.
Anyone interested to team up?
I saw a video of a guy running 5.x on Raspberry Pi 2 https://youtu.be/aSgQDhM84Ko
yeah i'm interested in teaming up. email me at [email protected] i already started to work on this.
Do you need specifically Android 5? peyo (can't post links - search for "peyo-hd" on GitHub) is doing great work with his CM repositories for RPi2 + RPi3. We also have a working image for RPi3 based on AOSP Android N Preview (again, no links... "RTAndroid" on GitHub). We also have downloadable images at our website.
Raspberry PI 3 is going to be supported officially by Google. So someone can port it for RPi2 too hopefully. Links:

Wow, that is very exciting. I am developing an application for use on the AndroidOS/JM for remote data collection, SalmonCam (https://twitter.com/yatrafish). I've had problems coping with the subtle variations in manufacturer Android builds and hardware specificities. I am hoping that we can create custom ROMS for the Pi that are less phone-ish and more technical. Thanks.

Based on the fact that the repository is still empty, I think it will take a while until we have an official version. Would be pretty cool though.

That sounds amazing. Becoming more technical is exactly the reasoning behind RTAndroid. Although we gave up on RPi2 as it was super slow.

I agree totally, there is a significant need for a modern technical OS.
WinCE/PocketPC is the primary option where ruggedized field terminals with hardware buttons are needed. See http://www.junipersys.com/ for an example of the industry standard device.

I'm glad I finally found somebody with a similar opinion. We did actually contact several manufacturers/resellers of rugged tablets, but only a small part of them were interested in Android in general. And those who were told us they are happy with the normal AOSP. I never understood how they don't have any other requirements for those devices. May be customers are now yet aware of what is possible.
