New Gear Update Breaks Exchange Email - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Updated the gear to V700XXUAMMK7 and Gear Manager to 1.5.111394 and can no longer read my emails that come from my two exchange mail accounts. Could read the emails fine before the update. It now comes up with the following message...
The content of this email cannot be shown on the Gear for security reasons. For details, view this email on your mobile device.
The above appears with two buttons "Cancel" and "OK"
Does anyone know of a setting somewhere that would allow the these emails to be read?

Is this work email? Does your work enforce a pin lock? If yes, i suspect it is because of that - to prevent the contents being read by a third party.
If not that samsung have screwed up again

Or perhaps Knox related. You can always just flash the previous firmware to see if that repairs it...*as a matter of testing*.

Pin lock not required

No pin lock is enforced from our servers.

I just ran in to the same thing. And it's not on the Exchange side. I reverted back to earlier versions of Gear Manager and the Gear s/w. The Gear's useless to me without Exchange support.

It's not KNOX related either. I had no issues with KNOX or Exchange pre-update nor now that I've reverted back. It's most likely something introduced in Gear Manager or one of its conduits.

could be because the update isn't for US? maybe your email thinks you're in the UK

Then by the sounds of it, it's an intentional move by Samsung for one reason or another. Well that or a **** up!

It could be a region check or that there's something in the s/w that checks that the Gear's CSC matches the CSC of the Gear's ROM. Although I have a Note 10.1 2014 that's using the same Exchange accounts and KNOX configuration and incoming e-mail was normal with the Gear on MK7. My 10.1-14 isn't from the U.S. and never had the Gear connected to it before. So I think that the files from the first time my Gear was set up on my N3 associated my Gear to the U.S. and using the UK ROM tripped some type of security flag. We can check our phones to see if their status is "official." Is there any way to check the Gear's status?
In the meantime I'm sticking with older versions of the s/w until someone else in the U.S. updates and can attest to Exchange working properly in the U.S.

Even if you don't upgrade firmware on Gear - Exchange mail is broken since latest Gear Manager update. I have AT&T Note 3 and Gear and started getting empty notifications with "view on device" button after the update for all exchange emails today.

the new gear manager also shuts ATN down every hour or 2 it seems. I just reverted back to the prev vers of gear manager and everything is back to normal

Doesn't the new Gear Manager update remove the need for ATN? I went in Gear Manager and was able to flip the switch for notifications from any application on the phone. I removed ATN as it would seem as a redundant application. Am I wrong about that assumption?

For those of you with the firmware update then yes you don't need atn. for those of us samsung forgot we still need ATN or GG

My Fix for Exchange emails
I set up forwarders in our Exchange servers to forward the exchange emails to my Gmail account. Now on the Gear I get my exchange emails through my Gmail account. On my Note 3 the emails show up in both places. The new notifications seem to show a lot more information than the old Email notifications.

I'm in the US, I installed the UK update with absolutely no issues. If you want to stay stock I say flash the new FW. You will love it. It can still be rooted etc.

I am stock in the US and email notifications from exchange do not display the content, only a message about security and use your phone to read.

Tempted to remove and add back my Exchange account to see if that works. Has anyone tried?

Yep. Didn't change anything. My Gear works fine on my 10.1-14 with MK7/1.5 but I get the security warning on my N3. They both use the Samsung mail client to connect to the same Exchange server using the exact same settings. The only difference is the 10.1-14 never had the Gear connected to it before and it has a Latin American CSC. I think the former is the issue as my N3 registered the Gear initially with one CSC and may have realized the same Gear was now on a different CSC. I'd bet hard resetting both the N3 and Gear would resolve the problem but I don't feel like spending the entire day rebuilding my phone. I may have to any way if the U.S. version of MK7 still has the problem when it's released.

Does exchange mail work with an alternate app like Touchdown?
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app

Same problem I am having. No exchange email other than a notification. The text if the message is missing. I am stock US
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium HD app

I updated mine too and now it doesn't show content :/ Maybe cause I have a PIN enabled?

[Q] How to sync note 3 with outlook 2010?

The Kies 3 don't have the option for sync with outlook. Anyone know how to sync note 3 with outlook? Please help. Thanks.
I have a case open with Samsung support in the UK about this.
They advise the Sync Tab in Kies 3 is missing, and that their software engineers are working on it, and that it will be installed in the future.
However support people generally know less than customers so I will believe it when I see it.
Meanwhile if anyone spots an updated version of Kies 3 internationally with this attached please advise.
The Note 3 doesn't work with Kies 2 which is annoying and asks for Kies 3, which I found on the Samsung UK website.

@ fonejacker - I'm with you on this mate....
So on top of the fact business users/travelers can no longer go outside their designated area...in my case Europe...and use a USA sim for example due to territory blocking...we cannot do a sync with Outlook using Kies 3....after just parting with £600 GBP for this phone its seems a bit much!
However as I have upgraded from a Note 1....the tech is awesome on Note 3 by comparison....I feel forced to accept these missing elements...
A statement from Samsung saying that 'not a lot people use this feature' is because those that used Outlook sync never complained it was missing!! lol

Here ya go. This should do the trick.
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...id-without-3rd-party-app-exchange-server.html
same goes for S4
I was just offered an upgrade for my S4 to Android 4.3. I upgraded. When I tried to sync my calendar, I was told I needed to upgrade to Kies 3. I did and now I also cannot sync. I'm very disappointed in Samsung for this. I hope they fix it soon.
Update: I also cannot back up my phone. Backup does not back up in the order shown in the backup items list. I am able to get through Contacts, S Memos, S Planner, Videos, Music and Photos. Miscellaneous content files fails and Call log hangs forever. I tried disabling those last two and then it hung on something else instead.
Same issue with my S4
no help from Samsung customer service
I just called Samsung customer service in Singapore. They apologized a dozen times but have no information about when the "improvement" to Kies 3 will be ready so we can sync and backup again.
Any new updates on this? Not being able to sync the Note 3 with Outlook is a huge inconvenience.
Mine syncs with all of my exchange accounts.

The problem is people using outlook not aways (I believe mostly not) upload their address book onto outlook.com because of security and privacy issues.

KIES 3 synchro with contacts/calendar Outlook
Have big issue with the above. No alternative to get any synchro with contacts and calendar from Outlook as before. Does anybody knows when Samsung/Kies will have the alternative done with Kies 3 ?. If any other solution, please let me know.

Outlook problem
I have just upgraded my phone to 4.3 and Kies 3.0, and have just found out that I can no longer sync my phone with Outlook. I cant believe that Samsung could sell a premium product which is designed both for personal and business use without this important function. Has anyone found a solution, or this phone now redundant as a business tool?

Can't send exchange emails after update

I could use a little help. After updating to 4.3 I can no longer send emails on my exchange account. Everything else syncs. I get emails, calendar, contacts, etc. I even went to Sprint and they sent me a replacement phone. So, I tested it out. I set everything up pre-update. Everything worked. I took the update and got the exact same result. So, it's either the update or a setting on the exchange server side that only interferes with the 4.3 update. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
4.3 update right? Just to be sure since you mention 2.3 twice which got me confused a bit.
Just check exchange send and receive working fine for me on 4.3

I've always found that the nag (from inside the email client) about activating security settings for Exchange is unreliable, and doesn't always cause the appropriate 'system level' Android dialog to pop up after you click OK to proceed from the nag inside the email client.
I just played with settings in my Exchange account on my Nexus 7, and got the security settings nag from inside the email client a few times, but it only (finally) displayed the appropriate 'system level' activation prompt after a few tries, deleting account, adding account, etc...
When the security settings activation does work, you should see a notification in the system notification area, and confirming that (system level nag) seems to do the trick.
I hope that makes sense.

Touchdown emails notification truncated

I'm running Gear Manager 1.5.120903 and Software UAMK7 on Note 3. I'm considering returning my gear because i don't not get full body notifications from Touchdown, my work email exchange client, I do get the title of the emails but to see the full body I have to go manually into the app on the watch. On the other hand gmail works just fine. Any fixes?
I understand the Sony SWII gives full email content notifications.
I believe that it is because your Outlook server has security settings that make it that way. Mine did. Also made it so I had to have a lock screen with a pin code to unlock.
I Google searched Outlook no pin for android 4.3 and found a solution that worked. I had to flash a zip file.
Anyways. I think the issue is with your email server. Not the watch...

Thanks but can't root my phone as IT can tell. However why does Sony S2 work? Just bought one today and the touchdown email comes thru as a notification complete with entire email body
My company changed over to requiring Maas360 and TouchDown for accessing the 2010 Exchange Server. I poked around through the TouchDown settings to find the new server address and was able to setup my work account using the stock email app. TouchDown is still installed but pretty much disabled. I have had no issues with my work email account and get most of the email body on my gear. Don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a shot.

I'm fairly certain that this is because Touchdown isn't specifically designed to work with the Gear, and as a result it's just trying to do its best. If Nitrodesk updated their software to specifically communicate with the Gear it'd work ok. You may want to send them a request email, I'm probably going to.

[Q] Email failure after disabling magazine

Month old note 3.
Disabled magazine and now get email message "unfortunately, email has stopped" I see from threads elsewhere that this is the issue.
I DO NOT WANT magazine. Is there someway to eliminate all the junk on this phone without killing the apps that work. I thought my Atrix was bad but it isn't nearly as crammed as this phone. I have 26 apps turned off, and some more that wont give me the option. I use this device for work, not play, and only want the apps I need.
Samsung please fix!!! Give us an option to unload all the crap with the next update. You are killing a really nice phone.
Anyone have a work around??????

Autoupdate to 1.6 Gear Manager

Hello Guys,
I wanted to share my experience here with the latest Gear Manager update to version 1.6.
The main reason why I am using and keeping the Galaxy gear is the email notification not having to pull out my cell phone in meetings and check my email. I can discretely check the email and see if an email is important enough to pull out my cell phone or my laptop.
I didn't like the fact that there is no internet, etc on the Gear and I was also disappointed that the app amount is so limited compared to Google Play not to mention that Gear 2 is out not even 6 months after the Gear.
Anyway, with the latest Gear Manager 1.6 the email feature became useless as the message came up with "Due to security reasons this email cannot...". I tried everything with restore, etc to make the feature work again but I failed.
So then I went out there and installed NULL ROM 23 with the custom recovery and the email feature still didn't work.
Then I downloaded Gear Manager 1.7 and the email feature still didn't work.
The ONLY way to get my email working again on the Gear was to deinstall Gear Manager on the phone and upload via ADB the Gear Manager version 1.5. Now I have NULL ROM 23 with TWRP and Gear Manager 1.5 and my email is working again.
I don't know what Samsung is thinking but they sold over 80.000 devices between September 2013 and November 2013 and by January 2014 they had sold over 500.000 Gear devices worldwide. With $300 a pop that's $150M revenue.
Such a behavior of making THE most important feature of the Gear useless is like telling 500.000 people that we are using the Gear as a test ground and we don't care what you guys think.
I hope that my experience above will help other people facing the same issue and how to get their email working again but I should also point out that once you have your Gear email working again, you might want to disable the "Autoupdate" feature within Gear Manager.

thanks for sharing this! there is a general one rule - if something works the way you expect it - do not even try to update. i've done it way too many times.

Gear Manager 1.6.13 and Gear ROM NA6 (just released in the US yesterday, it also worked fine on MK7 which is what was released in December I believe)
I'm not sure what is meant by 'secure' emails, but it was my understanding that this issue was only occurring for exchange server emails. It's working fine for me, though (with Exchange server emails).

Yes, I was referring to Exchange emails. Gmail, SMS, etc worked fine but with the latest update emails stopped working. They gave us a new bundled view of the emails but removed the ability to read those emails on the Gear. I tried it multiple times even with factory reset but every email was secured and could only be viewed on the cell phone but not on the gear.
This update sucks I need my corporate exchange emails on my gear. Is there an easy way to get it working again? Can I just flash the old software to the gear with kies?

As I stated above. The easiest way to get this working again is to:
1) Uninstall Gear Manager 1.6 via Settings and Application Manager which will take a while until all submodules are uninstalled
2) Download the Gear Manager 1.5 APK for your region
3) Install Gear Manager 1.5 via KIES or ADB (SDK) by using adb install
4) Once installed uncheck the "autouprade" checkbox in the Gear Manager settings
The only Gear Manager that has been able to reliably work for me is 1.2.131013. Any other version would fail for me after just one reboot.

So i have null 21 on my watch and I am also using Gear Manager 1.5.123002
I have the email app that came with the null rom configured with my gmail account and I also have the gmail app install on my watch too. I was able to sideload the gmail2.apk onto my watch.
One thing I am wondering though...has anyone been able to get email notifications to work on their gear manager with these email apps?
Is there a way to setup with Gear Manager to get an email notification?
I was wondering if anyone has figured anything like that out...or is the only way to check with the gmail app or stock email app (which requires an internet connection) ?
Thanks again...

Depending on the version of GM you're using, GMail notifications can be enabled under either Notifications or Settings/Notifications. Also, if you can bluetooth tether to your phone, you can install a lot of apps directly.

Well i know for a fact that gmail notifications are not available on the gear manager 1.5.123002
My wireless provider does in fact offer bluetooth tethering...so i guess i am going to have to upgrade my gear manager.
I am a bit concerned because this gear manager has been working great with my watch + null 21 rom

I don't see how it doesn't work. 1.2.131013 is obviously an earlier version and Gmail notification works with that.
You know what I was just looking at Gear Manager and under the "more notifications" section I saw that somehow it had been turned "off".
And on the list of "more notifications" is the default email account. I also selected gmail as part of the notifications under the "more notifications" list.
I configured the default email app with my yahoo email and i turned "on" more notifications in gear manager.
Hopefully this will start giving me email notifications....

Ok so yesterday my phone installed the latest version of Gear Manager and my Gear was flashed and rebooted. After the reboot I can no longer read exchange emails. It says it can't show the emails because of security reasons. This is the entire reason I bought the Gear. I get about 350-400 emails a day and it's convenient to preview them on the watch instead of the phone for every email. Can anyone help me get email working again on the Gear? Also, will this be a problem on the Gear 2 I just ordered? Thanks very much in advance.
Samsung won't support Gear 1 with Galaxy S5

I did post in this thread how you can get your email for Exchange working again.
With that said here is another update:
I purchased the S5 Galaxy SM-G900T and it installs by default Gear Manager 1.7. This version comes up with the same error message that Exchange emails cannot be viewed on the Gear but only on the phone.
I did chat with support from Samsung and here is the emailed transcript:
Visitor: Samsung S5 SM-G900T
Visitor: Brand new since today
Visitor: Android version 4.2.2
Visitor: Sorry, 4.4.2
Visitor: Typo
Visitor: Galaxy Gear model SM-V700
Visitor: Anything else you need?
Daisy: Thank you for explaining.
Daisy: May I place you on hold for 3 minutes, while I gather the information on your request?
Visitor: sure. I just want my Exchange emails to be readable again on my Gear watch. Take your time.
Daisy: Thank you.
Daisy: Thank you for holding.
Daisy: As the issue started after upgrading the device to S5. It could be the compatibility issue.
Daisy: I can see that the S5 will support the gear 2 version.
Visitor: So you are saying that the Gear 1 is no longer supported with the S5?
Visitor: Is this what you are saying?
Daisy: Yes, you are correct.
Visitor: If this is the case then I will throw the gear one right back at Samsung because you sold 800.000 Gear one watches since September 2013 and 6 months later you discontinue support with the new S5 and just to remind Samsung paying $300 for a watch is not something trivial.
Daisy: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Visitor: thanks. I will escalate this properly. Have a nice day.
Daisy: Thank you for your feedback about this issue.
I just uninstalled Gear Manager 1.7 and I installed Gear Manager 1.5 and my Exchange emails are working again on my Gear 1.
