Then I got stuck on the htc startup screen with the green htc letters and white background. Ran the RUU from ATT HTC again and got stuck at 34% while updating system. I pulled out the usb cord and pulled out the battery and replaced it. Now there's an error with htc black background and 4 triangles. whenever I pull out the usb cord, the phone goes into a hardboot menu with only RUU option. I can't unlock my phone. it is currently relocked.
Please help :'(
thanks!
Just run the RUU again without removing the USB cord this time.

If you pull the battery, replace the battery, hold Vol- and PWR, does it take you to Bootloader, or to that "RUU" screen? If it takes you to bootloader, select Fastboot, plug in your phone, and run the RUU again. Looks like you have ICS Hboot, so make sure you're using an ICS RUU, and the correct one. You may want to redownload the RUU in case you got a bad download. If it doesn't boot to bootloader, try running the redownloaded RUU from that "RUU" Hboot screen
Thanks for the replies. When I try going into hardboot it has the black htc screen with the four triangles. When I try running the ruu it updates until 34% and gets stuck there

Like they said, re-download the ruu. if you want another option, try using another pc, or a powered USB hub.

All good suggestions...also make sure you're using the cable that came with the phone. A ton of strange going-ons are being reported with 3rd party cables..
I'm still stuck at the 34% mark even though i re-downloaded the RUU. Should I download another RUU version?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564776
Did you download the ruu from here? If not try it and see if it works. Maybe the one before was a bad download.
yea that's the one I used :/. I ran the RUU at least 8 times and it would always get stuck at 34% or the updating system stage. could the issue lie with the system?
thanks for the replies

Un brick my Vivid
My Vivid is currently bricked. Not enough reading first or rather the problem is some people create blogs that show up in Google and then post incomplete procedures... Oh well
My problem is I was trying to upgrade to ICS. I did not get the unlock keys from the HTC site. I copied PH39IMG.zip to the sd card and booted. Now it will not complete boot. If I remove the SD card and the battery and then power up with Power and Volume Down, I get to this screen

download the ruu from htc from the screen you get now pick fastboot hook your phone to your computer and run the ruu
..
Seems like I require S-OFF.
Currently I got custom recovery and ROM but it only boots into fastboot until S-OFF is achieved.
HBoot is 1.44 S-ON, locked with tampered flag(Not the new 1.54/1.45 HBoot).
CID has been set to 11111111 and has not been unlocked on HTCDev before.
How would I proceed? or is this a complete paper weight? Phone doesn't have warranty anymore.
Thanks.
Try running an RUU while the phone is connected and in bootloader mode.

Hey all I'm new to the HTC one and am a bit confused. I just got this thing yesterday and have unlocked the bootloader(HTC Dev), rooted it(SuperSU), and tried to S-off but it ended at this"must sanitize, skunky rum is nasty
hold please..............................................
[TTTT********************************************************]" so I'm not sure if it completed fine? Oh well. My question is...Can I upgrade from stock(4.1.2 to a ROM like ViperOne(4.3)? With no problems? I used to build SlimRoms for the Samsung Infuse and I know we couldn't just jump up builds like that. We had to go one android version at a time. Is this the case with the HTC one? Any help would be appreciated Thanks guys
Which hboot do you have? (you can check it in bootloader longpressing power and vol- when the phone is off).
If you have 1.44 hboot, i advice you to use the revone tool!
I believe I do have 1.44. I tried running sujo(?) Again and this time my phone rebooted to bootloader then to my phone's main screen and I had no data and couldn't unlock my phone. It said adb failed to load or something like that and "YOU fix it.." so I rebooted it and it's fine now..maybe dumb question how do I find out if I'm s-off or on? Because it may have worked..

Reboot into bootloader (adb reboot bootloader or longpress power and vol- when the phone is powered off).
At the top you will see a line with the S-ON or S-OFF Text.

So, I tried rumrunner again and this time it worked perfect. Now my device says S-OFF!
Now, Why does the OTA update not appear for me? Is it because my bootloader is unlocked? If so what's the safest process to go from 4.1.2 to 4.3? I'd like to update to the ViperOne ROM. Thanks for any help guys I really appreciate it.

The OTA depends about your cid.
However, you can upgrade to the ViperOne, just flash it in recovery.
p.s. I advice to flash the 3.62 firmware, so you will have a phone like the stock but with the Viper
I have read on various threads that when you send your phone for service, it typically comes back with latest firmware, and as a result, latest hboot 1.56. Would the device be considered for repair under warrenty if it is completely stock, s-on, latest firmware, but older hboot? This way the device firmware might not be upgraded during service and being on a lower hboot might make it easier to obtain s-off post service. Thoughts?

if everything is up to date except the hboot, they will know you have tampered the phone and your warranty will not be valid.
Ok get it. Thanks.
Now can someone please point me to the source for hboot 1.56 (I am on 4.19.1540.9, but had flashed hboot 1.44 and need to revert to original hboot version). I am looking for only hboot and not complete ruu (dont hv bandwidth to download ruu). Quick response would really really help.

You need the original unmodified.. these are GSM Only. By the way, does your bootloader say tampered, locked/relocked or does it just say locked.

My bootloader says unlocked - I had locked it day before yesterday (at that time it said Locked) but I have unlocked it again now so it says Unlocked. And am s-off. Mine is single sim gsm only phone and firmware is 4.19.1540.9. So which hboot to download? Will hboot for version 4.19.401.9 work on my device and be considered stock for it by service center?

That will work ok, But... That's not the answer.. in order to return for warranty.. You phone has to be locked not relocked. Have tampered removed. Stock recovery. In other words out of the box software..

Sure I will install stock recovery and do Lock (not relock). Thanks again!
I can unroot after Locked? From the super user app itself?
I plan to follow steps:
1) flash hboot 1.56
2) flash stock recovery
3) get Locked
4) unroot from app
5) factory reset
6) get s-on

Be careful with hboot 1 56.
If you go S-On. You may not be able to go S-Off again. Also make sure if you go S-On to do so before Ota 3.**.***.*.
Quote" Step 3: if YOU decide to go S-On*(Note: this should only be done for warranty or selling the phone, it is not needed for OTAs)
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
reboot 3 times and make sure it doesnt say "tamper detected - rebooting" and then shows TAMPERED again
as far as I know, this was introduced in hboot 1.55" End Quote. Thank you @nkk71
Though I see no reason to take OTA updates all the way to hboot1.55/1.56.
Not everyone I imagine wants to be on the latest firmware.
Has long as it's fully stock , HTC will honour the Warranty.

So you are suggesting I first downgrade and then achieve s-on? I am ok with no s-off. Getting warranty is more important for me at this point. I want to be on the latest firmware. So if I go s-on with hboot 1.56, I will be in a fix? In that case can I s-on with present hboot 1.44 and then flash hboot 1.56? Or it will not be possible since i would be s-on?

The hboot file didn't work. So I extracted it from the OTA file I had with me for 4.19.1540.9 and replaced the hboot img file in the zip I had for hboot 1.44. Worked!
But it was scary - I executed fasboot flash zip command and the progress bar n the phone was stuck around 75% but cmd returned OK. So as per instructions on htc1guru, I executed the command again and the status bar didn't move but again cmd said OK. Finally turned off the phone by holding down power button and prayed and turned it on. Phone booted with hboot 1.56!
PS: Exactly same thing had happened when I had downgraded to hboot 1.44

Sorry should have mentioned that. It goes like this..
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip hboot.zip
Now the first time you issue a command to flash firmware/ruu in fastboot it only prepares the flash. *You have to issue the exact command again:
fastboot flash zip hboot.zip
The green status bar usually does not reach the 100% mark. *When the output in the command window is complete, you can reboot:
fastboot reboot

Got my One back! Camera is awesome now. Low light, normal light, sunlight... every situation the camera excels.
Sensor is ov6488, no date.
Only thing that that is bugging me, but I can live with it - using flash results in a very light green hue on the entire photograph. But I rarely use flash.
And the camera lens (and the flash module) are a little off-center from glass at the back, but it seems to have no effect on the photos, so I am fine (but just a little annoyed) with it.
At the same time, I want to confirm a couple of things -
1) Does this sensor have OIS - had read somewhere it is same sensor as the one used in M8, which doesn't have OIS
2) The photos appear distorted towards the ends/edges - a characteristic of the wide angle lense I understand - but with the prior sensor, when I use to set Crop as Regular, the photos use to get straight at ends/edges; but that is not the case anymore - no matter what Crop I select - Wide, Regular, and Square, photos are distorted/wide at ends/edges. Hope this is the way it is suppose to be.
