With Motorola announcing the Moto G the other day, the low price of that phone and the power it has makes it an interesting option. For $200 USD you get a 1.2ghz quad core, 16GB nand, adreno 302 graphics, 1gb of ram, unlocked sim, unlocked bootloader, and guaranteed kitkat from Motorola. Other than the lack of hdmi and sdcard, that's a really good value. See here for the full specs. To deal with the 16gb nand, just get a micro usb thumb drive for music and movies, they cost between $30-$70 for a decent sized one, and 16GB should be enough to cover most users other than gamers...gamers'll probably want to be on a better phone anyways.
A really big plus in my opinion is the G's OS wiil be pure AOSP other than 2 Motorola apps designed to migrate your settings and apps over to the G.....less technical users like my Mother actually use and like them so I see those as a good thing. When your Mom can take her first Android phone, the Atrix HD, plug it up to her laptop and get it all set up and running to her liking relatively hassle free, then Motorola did something right.
G also comes with 50GB of Google Drive storage free for 2 years....not sure if that's a plus or a minus since you'll have to pay for the Google Drive storage eventually....I also have 190GB of free Copy.com storage thanks to all of you so I laugh at the G's 50GB free .
The G obviously has some downsides because it is a budget phone. For one, it doesn't have 4G/LTE, it doesn't have the Active Notifications its big brother X has, no hdmi port, & no sdcard slot.
I'm normally really against phones without the sdcard option, but for the price, the Moto G is hard to hate on; especially when otg thumb drives are as cheap as they are.
My only curiosity with the G is if usb-to-hdmi works with it. If it doesn't it isn't a deal breaker, but it would be nice to be able to hook it up to a bigger screen for watching movies or playing games.
There's a really good chance I'll pick one of these up on launch. If anything to show Motorola that if they make a good, fully unlocked phone at a good price that we will buy it.

Drop the X Dev Edition to $350 and add it to Moto Maker (even if it costs an extra $50) and I'd consider it. For $550, the X Dev isn't worth the $$$ for a slightly faster processor, active display, and touchless controls; and I bet ya the G can probably port over the X's touchless controls, if not more.
*I'm not a fan of white phones, looks or for practicality. My hands get dirty when I work and I'll have a white phone smudged black in less than a week.
I'm really looking forward to the new phone block phone. Especially since Motorola is working with them now.

Moto and block phone.....that makes things very interesting. I'd love the option to make me a brick phone. Thin phones are OK and all, but I'd rather have a 5" brick with a good battery, keyboard, and expandable storage (and a micro hdmi/usb configuration like the we currently have).
Still, name a better phone for under $250 brand new that's better than the Moto G. I say $250 because I'm including the cost of a micro usb thumb drive. When you can get a good phone + accessories for under $300, someone's doing something right. Kudos Motorola.

I can get behind the AHD ebay/G new similar pricing, but a lot of you aren't thinking about this in the right way -- this is a Motorola WORLD RELEASED PHONE with an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER in a price range almost everybody can afford. There won't be any rom, mod, tweak, or customization that this phone won't have, which is a value you can't put a price on and, I believe, gives this the edge over the Atrix HD.
The G is essentially a Motorola made Nexus 4.5.

I agree completely. Hell at this price I will buy one just to sit on the back burner. Hell, who am I kidding, "just to play around with" is how that was supposed to read lol.
I would have spent a little bit more to get 2gb of ram, and then it would rival just about anything on the market. That and the lack of SD card support are the only two turn offs for me. I just don't know if 16gb of storage will be enough. I haven't ever seen one so correct me if there is, but I wish that there were tiny little OTG flash drive that could plug into the USB and just sit there, a little bump on the outside, kind of like those tiny usb drives and wireless mouse recievers that they make for laptops. Where it's just a plug and not much more volume to it. It would be a hassle to unplug it to charge the phone, but no more than the hassle of carrying around a jump drive and an OTG cable.
Though, like you said, this is huge. An unlocked moto phone with very decent specs that will have pretty much every rom ever known to man? Gimme two.
As for no LTE, meh. Who cares. Once you reach a certain point, internet speed gets to be a moot argument IMO. Especially mobile internet. Who's gonna be downloading huge files that would need that kind of internet on a phone? 21 mbps is good enough for me. To put it to terms, at that speed you could fill up the entire phone's memory in a matter of a few hours. Or to put it another way, you could burn through an entire month's worth of data on a standard data plan in a couple of hours. So at that point who cares? Nobody uses that much speed on a phone. Your facebook page can only load so fast.

I really like the sounds of this phone. Prior to the AHD, I hadn't purchased a phone on contract for 4-5 years, I like to buy and not hassle with ehte 2-year agreement. However, lack of 4g/LTE is a bummer with this one.
I don't think the lack of 4G/LTE is that big of a deal, especially since 3G is faster than my home cable internet anyways. For me, 4G is just a way for me to hit my data caps even faster and 4G speeds won't really matter to me until Big Cellular allows more than 2gb a month before I hit said cap -- I can live with getting push notifications of GMail at 3G speeds.... Ya also gotta realize that this is a world phone and 4G is mainly for Americans and major metropolitan areas outside of the US.
There's something seriously f'd up with these companies being allowed to give us the ability to use a month's bandwidth in less than 5 hours.
Realistically, the data cap should be 2gb a day with 3 dollars a gigabyte after that. That's enough to watch a movie, check emails, update apps.
Can't even sync an android repo without hitting the cap.....
Can't tether to a PC without being charged $20 a month...only gives an extra 2gb of data....I'd rather root, rom, and risk the $10 a gb overage charge...works out the same on my end $$$ wise.

Same reason im on prepaid T-Mobile. Lol True i pay $70 a month but i don't have to worry about data as i have wasted last month about 50gb in a month on LTE. My laptop is very happy with this plan as well. Lol

This might be the only phone to get me away from my Atrix. I love the shells and form factor. I can't use giant screens either and anywhere from a 4.5 to a 4.7 inch screen are perfect for me.
The only thing I don't like in moto g is that it's a lot thicker than atrix hd

Moto G is a budget phone for 200 dolar that i am not interested in. If they need power users, they have to deliver powerful phones. All in all, even if it has neat specs, at the end of the day a 200$ smartphone is worth 200$. You will not find fine details in it but I can buy it for my sister,mother or father which is the purpose and reason for its market availability.

Me too. Glad they changed the release date....Releasing this AFTER Christmas would just be stupid.
Yes I was pretty surprised to see it was available already. My ass is getting out of my expensive att contact and getting the moto g. Feeling really good about this phone. Doesn't even bother me there's no 4g. The only thing I'll miss is being able to hook up to my TV via micro HDMI.

Can see VZ bloatware on one of the pics -- would assume this is fairly close. Moto/VZ appear to be really jerking around customers these days - I am sure Bionic customers are upset that the Droid RAZR came out so quickly (although the gap between Bionic and RAZR is much smaller), and now us Droid 3'ers have this Droid 4 coming out. I am more interested in how much RAM this thing has - LTE still sucks down too much battery life for my taste, and non-removable battery is non-ideal - I like the the slim Motorola extended batteries - the 1900 mah one for Droid 3 adds essentially no thickness and lasts a lot longer than stock 1500.

Non removable battery is an instant do not want from me also, but I'm just pissed about this ****. I will never buy another motorola phone, I'm done. Give me Nexus or give me death.
I paid full retail for this phone right when it came out, I'm pretty pissed. If that comes out within the next few months (from the looks of it, it will) it'll be goodbye moto and hello nexus for me.

Well, the Nexus looks great (as long as you are ok with something that big - I am not), and I do love the idea of a pure Google experience, but nobody has actually used one; we have no idea how good or bad it will be. And, this is a Samsung phone, and is coming out even closer to the launch of the Samsung Charge than any the presumed D4 is coming to the D3. This is the reality - you reach a point to get an upgrade, you get the upgrade, and you stop worrying whether something slightly better is coming out in a few months - because it is.
I'm ok with a thinner device with non-removable battery - I have chargers everywhere, including in my car, and there are plenty of great portable charging devices that you can get for phones like that. After tons of issue with the Bionic over two weeks dropping data (3G, in areas where I know I have a solid 3G signal), I'm happy to have the D3 for the next 19.5 months, and give plenty of time to Moto and VZW to get LTE truly ready for prime time - because it's not quite there now. The D3 is a great phone and I'll be fine with it; not a single data drop since I've had it, and battery life is about the same as the Bionic (when it was running CDMA only).
I do think that this angle-cornered design of the Razr and this prototype is a bit on the unattractive side, though, compared with the Bionic/D3.
I don't mind that they are putting out another version of the Droid soon. It's a losing battle to have the latest and greatest phone. What bothers me is what will happen to OS updates. Will phones get abandoned quicker?
Also did anyone else notice non-removable battery, looks like I wouldn't buy it. I pay an and a leg for a phone along with a plan and both Verizon and Motorola act like they own your phone. Do they not realize why people buy Android phones? I can upgrade/swap batteries, I can run whatever programs I want, I can add a memory card, etc.
for people like sims and whitty who have been doing a lot of work on the d3 and are being ostracized, i firmly believe this is an idiotic move on moto's side. I'm probably gonna go the nexus route if the d4 drops as soon as everyone is speculating it is. This is some major bs.
At least I have the Transformer Prime to look forward to....
But seriously. Ugh. Waco has no 4G of any kind and won't for years to come so this doesn't affect me too much, but still. This will take away a huge amount of potential users and will piss off all the D3 buyers, especially the ones like me who bought it on full retail.

Most people won't have 4G for at least another year. By then, that phone will be obsolete, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

Interesting point, if it does have a GSM radio, this will be the first Global capable phone with LTE. How wold that even work, 2 SIM cards?
Non-replaceable battery will keep it off my list too. I'm in the NYC Metro Area and I know a few people with LTE phones, Bionic, Charge and TB. All have the same complaint, the battery life is horrible and they have constant connection issues. I'm waiting until next year summer-fall when the 2nd or 3rd generation LTE chips come out.

If you're on unlimited data now (using 3G), when you switch to a 4G phone you stay on unlimited data (now using 4G).
At&T has a new price point for HOX at $99.99 on contract so is the Atrix HD worth it still? Right now I am not sure since CM10 looks pretty good on the HOX.

I strongly considered the One X but the limited and non-expandable internal memory was completely a deal breaker for me. I have a bunch of music and movies on a 32GB card that I would have had to squeezed down to its 16GB internal memory. Why in this day and age would they do that? Might be a "cloud" thing. Since with the "cloud" you don't need large on-board memory. I don't buy that. I don't want to blow my very limited unlimited data plan, and not all of us have LTE coverage. While I have LTE at home (though with WiFi I've never needed to use it) my work still is on edge!
In addition I got the Atrix HD for $49 from Best Buy AND I signed up for their upgrade gift card (back in Feb) so I got a $50 gift card back instantly.
Thanks and I forgot about the expandable memory, and good deal with bestbuy now. Wish I could do something like that myself, but I want to hold onto this unlimited plan for as long as I can just to stick it to At&t. Now that I think about it the I hope that the tmobile version gets a microsd card slot like the Sprint Evo LTE. Outside of that I hope motorola unlocks the AHD's bootloader since stock doesn't seem like it is taking advantage of the S4 cpu.

I have another upgrade coming in a week and my family is happy with what they got. I was thinking about picking up an SGS2 Skyrocket or maybe even the new Sony that came out, but now that the HTC One X is cheaper I'll be getting that.
When I traded my Atrix 2 in they gave me $150 and I got the Atrix HD and I still have the $100 gift card, so I'll be getting the OneX free as well (at cost of being in contract)
Even though the Atrix HD had been disappointing because the lack of a dev community and the locked bootloader. I've grown to really appreciate the phone because it's engineering has been so solid for the hardware/software, that this phone has been running so well I see no need to change anything about it.
Eventually in a few months Dev will pick up on the Atrix HD, until Then I'll have the OneX sometime next week to play with.
One X vs AHD
Yes it appears on Sunday the price of the 1X is going to match the price of the AHD making it a challenging decision. However, since the HTC has been out for a couple of months, many of the bugs and hardware issues have reared their ugly head, at least on the AC forums. Of course, I do realize this a very small percentage of the total population of One X owners. Regardless, I'm not a fan of what HTC did to a perfectly good functioning multi-tasking in ICS which is where the AHD shines. And yes, the lack of microSD in the HTC is also annoying.
Has anyone in this forum had any regrets for investing in a mid-level phone like this? All the GS3 fans rave about it, but it too has its issues and I don't like the fact that the native email client does not allow pinch zooming emails. When I tested the AHD it seems it does and I also like the Smart Actions app too.
As a noob Andriod user, would you folks recommend the AHD due to the near stock Android experience? I don't want to waste an upgrade and need to make the best decision. Thanks.

If I had the chance I'd get the SGS3
If I had to choose between the MAHD and the 1X, I'd probably stick with the MAHD. Even though the MAHD isnt really any fun to modify right now, that'll change soon or later.
It's really up to the person. If you already have doubts about the HTC One X's UI, then I'd stick with the MAHD
I love the ability to stack icons on your home screen to make folders, and the feature to swipe icons like your email or texts to get a preview without opening REALLY saves time and makes using ICS so much more productive.
As soon as we can unlock the boot loader, this phone will become a monster.
If we only had root access right now, I'd be able to edit the build.prop and have this phones hardware beat the 1x and SGS3 no sweat.
So if I understand correctly, an important part of the decision about which device to purchase should be the developer element? In another thread in this forum that has to do with someone that exchanged their GS3 for the AHD, a guy who's a big GS3 proponent stated he feels its unlikely the AHD will get a JB update since Moto moves very slowly with updates even though Google owns Moto Mobility. And since the boot loader is locked on this phone, there won't be any development yet.
From my perspective, the choice needs to weigh all the elements of the phone, how many issues people are experiencing and that it's well balanced in all areas. A new consumer review vid was just posted in the AHD forum on AC and it's well done. He points out all the strong points and the weak ones on the AHD, too. And as we know, the big sticking points on this phone are the camera and battery though from what I see in the XDA forum, most have found using Juice Defender and/or the Smart Actions battery saver help resolve the battery problem.
I like the new garnet red color for the ATT GS3 and with the credits I got at Amazon, it would reduce the price to nearly $100 (though I could get the AHD for $25 But money aside, I just want the best phone that will be reliable and do everything it should without any problems.

That doesn't actually have to be an important element in your decision if rooting, flashing Roms etc. isn't your strong point or desire in Android phones. Since this phone is still new development will be very slow for who knows how long!
I came from the GS3 which I owned for at least 3 weeks. I loved the phone, everything it was hyped for came with it. It was quick and snappy right out of the box, but so is the AHD. From owning the GS3 for that amount of time; easing into the AHD was not bad at all. It was still quick and snappy out of the box had no complaints thus far for speed/multitasking, phone as of now is unable to be rooted so what you get is what you get. As far as JB update...well I'm not too sure on that criteria, I came from both the Atrix and Atrix 2, now both phones still don't have ICS i believe don't ..quote me on that lol but both phones are capable to experience ICS thru ports via ROMs. So they still get a little taste of how it is, I personally believe if we don't "Officially receive JB" eventually we could possibly see ported ROMs of JB (BL unlocked hopefully) in the near future. Aside of the BL being locked some members are at work of producing a root method for our phones and once that gets done..boy our phones are just half way there lol.
Haven't had any problems with the battery thus far since I have activated Batt. Extender App thru Smart Actions immediately out of the box, also installed Juice Defender and I can say it does make a huge difference so your not missing out on the battery too much.
I too loved the look of the GS3 in Red and was considering exchanging colors as opposed to getting the AHD, but I came from the White GS3 and i suffered from the deadly "Paint Crack" defect on the back cover!! I figured damn well I don't like the blue color and it did have a problem as well with the back cover...so I assumed the red just might have a defect lying there somewhere hahah.
I purchased the GS3 at Radio Shack for $150 thru upgrade which came to $207 after taxes so if you do plan on ordering the device through Amazon your getting quite a good deal, cheaper than any other person had problem gotten the device for lol.
All in all the AHD is a very reliable phone as well as the GS3! Both phones are capable of doing the same daily routines i.e texting, calling, browsing, etc.(Root/Rom aside) You can't go wrong with either device they are both great and I recommend both, it totally comes down to personal prefrence! If you were to ask me IMO I would get the AHD it's price point is unbeatable and for what comes out of the box you definitely can't go wrong, you won't be disappointed! Hope I was able to be of some help!

Your unlimited plan will last as long as you want. Just don't downgrade data plans, because then you lose it. I kept mine. Actually did a cross upgrade (one of the phones on plan was due for upgrade but not the one that I wanted to upgrade). They switched my unlimited plan to a LTE unlimited plan, without any question, or argument.

Did you do this through at&t or a third party like best buy or Walmart? The reason I ask is when I went to a third party for an upgrade in the fall last year they said I would have to drop to a tiered plan. I went through At&t then to keep it, just wish I could get these reduced deals through places like amazon and RadioShack.

Chcl8.. Yes, you were of some help. Went back to the ATT store today and one of the reps is very knowledgeable and also owns a rooted Atrix that he's running Linux on too. I left the store thinking the GS3 might be the better decision due to not knowing if the AHD will ever get the JB update. And to me, that's BIG deal. I've never rooted or flashed a ROM due to owning an iPhone for so many years, though it's something I'd like to learn at some point. But I don't want to do anything that would void the warranty.
He said that after a few weeks I probably wouldn't notice the blue cast on the screen, though to me, it's pretty obvious now. And the points you are making about the hair line cracking in the plastic on the back of the GS3 was interesting and also made me think. But having a removable battery is nice just the same. I'm really torn right now and can't decide. And since I'll be getting the phone from ATT, getting the AHD will also include the car dock and car charger which is nice. I do prefer how Moto has skinned ICS as compared to TW though but the camera really isn't great at all. UGH!

I came from the GS3 which I owned for at least 3 weeks. I loved the phone, everything it was hyped for came with it. It was quick and snappy right out of the box, but so is the AHD. From owning the GS3 for that amount of time; easing into the AHD was not bad at all. It was still quick and snappy out of the box had no complaints thus far for speed/multitasking, phone as of now is unable to be rooted so what you get is what you get. As far as JB update...well I'm not too sure on that criteria, I came from both the Atrix and Atrix 2, now both phones still don't have ICS i believe don't ..quote me on that lol but both phones are capable to experience ICS thru ports via ROMs. So they still get a little taste of how it is, I personally believe if we don't "Officially receive JB" eventually we could possibly see ported ROMs of JB (BL unlocked hopefully) in the near future. Aside of the BL being locked some members are at work of producing a root method for our phones and once that gets done..boy our phones are just half way there lol.
Haven't had any problems with the battery thus far since I have activated Batt. Extender App thru Smart Actions immediately out of the box, also installed Juice Defender and I can say it does make a huge difference so your not missing out on the battery too much.
I too loved the look of the GS3 in Red and was considering exchanging colors as opposed to getting the AHD, but I came from the White GS3 and i suffered from the deadly "Paint Crack" defect on the back cover!! I figured damn well I don't like the blue color and it did have a problem as well with the back cover...so I assumed the red just might have a defect lying there somewhere hahah.
I purchased the GS3 at Radio Shack for $150 thru upgrade which came to $207 after taxes so if you do plan on ordering the device through Amazon your getting quite a good deal, cheaper than any other person had problem gotten the device for lol.

I think it'll get it, it'll just be a long time before it comes out. I'd bet the next version of Android will be out before this phone gets JB. If you guys ever get root though you'll likely be able to get it before the official update drops via leak on the Moto servers like what has recently come out for the Atrix 2. As for the hairline cracking, if you go ripping the cover off like a madman you can expect that. but if you get it started a little, and then use your thumbnail to run along the bezel of the phone to get it off the rest of the way you won't have an issue.

I love the ability to stack icons on your home screen to make folders, and the feature to swipe icons like your email or texts to get a preview without opening REALLY saves time and makes using ICS so much more productive.
As soon as we can unlock the boot loader, this phone will become a monster.
If we only had root access right now, I'd be able to edit the build.prop and have this phones hardware beat the 1x and SGS3 no sweat.

I'd consider getting it second hand in 6 months + if it had SD support. For me, spec wise, AHD is all I really need in a phone. Next phone I get will be something like an AHD with a keyboard.

Definitely will not purchase Motorola X. While Motorola phones Have very good build quality. I believe the hardware to be subpar compared to samsung and htc. The motoblur Interface on Atrix HD is a big improvement over that of Atrix 4g. which is a big step in the right direction . However Motorola has with both phones shown that it does not support updates as well as its competitors. for example atrix 4g support ended at android 2.3.6 and atrix Hd support ended at android 4.1.1. Add to this that Motorola Locks Bootloaders Making customization difficult . NO THANKS!

Depends on the bootloader status. If unlockable, then it will pick up really fast...if not, probably similar to us or the Defy -- depends on how easy it will be to root. Even locked, if its rooted there's a good chance it'll run ports of our roms.

Agreed. Though hardware is a moot point since most apps hardly support dual core, let alone quad and otca core phones. With Moto I don't even consider OEM support as a factor since I expect it to be next to nothing from the start. Moto releases OS updates as new devices.... My next phone will probably be HTC or Sony -- both have good OEM features, OEM support, and community support. I'm leaning towards Sony, only because I've never once bought a bad Sony product or had a Sony product break or go bad that wasn't directly related to me abusing the hell out of it.....usually because I drop them.

I dunno. Whatever Sony has next year that I can afford when I decide to upgrade the AHD.
I'm really interested in the Moto X. I like the look of some of the feature, notifications and active mic. My next upgrade is in Feb, so I'll make a decision at that time. However, I have heard rumor of a Moto Nexus coming (that was the leak rumor last week), if that is true, I may go for that off contract. I know everybody has different opinions on hardware and specs, but the Atrix HD is my 7th Moto phone (2nd android based), and outside of one poor flip phone, they have all been top notch.

Provided you can unlock the X's boot loader, then it'll probably be on par with us in no time at all. If locked, it might run ports of our roms if it is rooted and a rom flash method like SafeStrap is made.
If I were considering getting one, I'd wait a week to a month to see what's up with it, its quirks, and how much the community will support it.

As is, I haven't been able to use any cell radio internet for 3 weeks because I'm 50MB away from overage charges. Until phones either come with 64GB+ or the Phone Companies up the allotted bandwidth to at least 10GB a month, then external storage will still be necessary. The "Cloud" is useless with current Data Plans and 16-32GB isn't that much storage, especially once you start to consider Nandroids, Titanium Backups, music, a movie or three for a long trip, other roms, pictures, and the list goes on and on.

my 6th moto (cliq, q9h, v80, slvr, c139 prior) and I too agree with build quality, up there with Nokia for me.
I've also owned about 4 blackberry devices before going android and the build quality and reliability was anywhere from terrible to average.

Vote with your dollar! My feelings exactly. I give Samsung their props for continuing support for SDs and giving consumers what they want (incl. removable battery) Seems like everyone these days is going the other route.
Locked storage capacity + free cloud storage, it's all "politics" from my POV really and I'm not going to support it.

I agree that no SD is a big drawback...but cloud is one of the reason why google phones do not have SD. Only nexus 1 was the only nexus phone with a SD card i think! Well,,,thats the way google goes....i dont know if we have any say to it...unless samsung comes up with its own OS...
I was hopeful for the motorola x but after looking the specs and the fact that doesn't have a external SD I am thinking the Sony honami is my next phone.

I try to not get too caught up in the spec war. Look at crapple.....as much as it pains me to say this, they have low specs but they do an excellent job with optimization. So well that they can keep up with some of the new flagship phones.
I think the motoX will deliver a great user experience. And that's what it's all about. I'm not too fond of the no SD card.

Don't factor unlocked into your buying decision, you can unlock it yourself once you have root.
The "cons":
- "Only" 16 gb of storage (yet I don't know anyone who puts 16 gb of anything on their phone)
- "Mid range" specs (I've tested the most graphically intense games out there and they run smoothly)
- Size
- Facebook Home (not worth mentioning, we're on XDA)
The real cons:
- The camera is relatively weak but it improves with this mod.
- No expandable storage
- No removable battery
- Little attention
The pros:
- High PPI
- Specs
- Good battery life
- LTE, NFC
- Size
- Solid construction
- Matte finish
I don't understand why so few people care about this phone but go gaga over the One Mini, they're practically twins specwise. I guess people just like shiny things I'm a Thinkpad kinda guy so the First looks better to me.
People are trying to port the One Mini's stock 4.2.2 rom, once that's successful we might see Cyanogen on the First. Until then I'd recommend sticking to stock, JMZ's sense rom has a few issues.

I actually consider size one of my primary motivations for going this route. I find most modern phones way too large, and I sure as hell do not want to go the Iphone route. This phone seems like a really awesome phone that just wasn't marketed properly.
I do not mind the mid range specs, and my Gnex already is stuck at 16gb with no expandable storage, and while the battery is removable, its still a pretty weak battery.
I hope to be able to get one off Ebay sometime in the next couple of weeks, wait for the right deal.
In the first set of cons I was referring to things that reviewers have complained about. I kid you not, they complained about screen size after using their Galaxy phones for so long. They complained about numbers in benchmarks that are nigh unnoticeable in actual use. Then they spend the rest of the review bashing FB home which can be turned off with 2 taps.

I thought the HTC First was pretty great coming from the Galaxy Nexus. If you compare screen sizes, the ammount of display available on the Gnex is about equal to what's available on the First due to the on screen buttons on the GNex. I think the First is faster, has a prettier display, and has a really unique look along with LTE. That being said, my biggest complaint is that the phone is a forgotten phone already. There's no development support which is a huge bummer. I'd LOVE it if I could throw CM or AOKP on this device. It would be a dream come true.
I just got this phone and my mom took over my lg optimus g on sprint and put in a straight talk at&t LTE capable micro Sim card. I like the size and stock aosp. Coming from a rooted lg optimus g running pacman.

We have unofficial cm ports coming so we have some support. But HTC told me that its been discontinued.
Um, ya camera isn't as good as I would like, but hen I was picking between a used one x and this I picked the first cause 1.4ghz is a lot, my hands are small so 4.7 inches is too much and the used one x was 220$ while I got this for 155$ brand new.

So I currently own a S4 on Verizon. I've been wanting the X and my dad said he'd buy my S4 and I found someone with a brand new Moto X 16 gb for $300. I really love the design, nexus like look, and special features of the X. I've played with one at best buy an it is really fast. I'm just worried about a new one coming out soon. I know there will always be new technology but since this has been out for a few months, I'm skeptical. Also the 16gb worries me. I think I've read you're left with 11gb new. I just feel I'm going backwards lol
So I figured I'd ask the users of Moto Xs and see what you guys think. Not really asking if its better than the S4, just if its smart or not to get one at this point. It actually won't cost me anything an I'd actually make some money from selling my dads current S3.

The trend for Apple and Samsung has been to release a new phone every year (so we should officially hear about the Galaxy S5 in March)
Considering the Moto X hit USA Carrier shelves starting in the tail end of August, if Moto follows that "new release every year" trend, then you're not even halfway through the X's shelf life yet. (only about 4 months of 12).
So if you're just worried about "timing" and you like the phone, then get it... otherwise consider....
Coming from a Galaxy S4, consider the smaller screen. Can your eyes adjust? Non-Removable battery (but the X has better life than my VZW GS4), Camera differences (at first GS4 was noticeably better, but with the recent updates, the X's camera matches the GS4's outdoor and good light abilities, it still lags in low light a little), no removable memory slot (so your MP3's, pix, videos have to take up space in the X's main memory).
Out of the box, a 16gig demo X I had for a while had more memory/storage available than my 16gig GS4 (11gig vs 9). I would still opt for the 32gig model X due to lack of removable Micro-SD slot if you want to keep stuff locally on your phone. That being said, I have friends who got 16gig models, haven't filled them up, and are perfectly happy. Me, I have 7 gig of music on my phone and take lots of pictures of my son (who just turned 5).
The X is my daily driver. I get phones free for my job and for a while via the VCC (don't ask) for personal use. (full list of my phones is -> HERE) The X was the first phone *I purchased* since I got my Moto E815 back in 2006. After using a carrier supplied 16gig Demo X for two months, I purchased the Dev Edition X for Verizon (full price) in early November, and its been my daily driver since. If you look at my phone list, and consider an X (first the demo and now my Dev X) has been on my personal line since early September when I originally got the demo X, you should get an idea of how much I like this phone.
I lived with a 16gb Nexus 4 for a year and unless you have a large music collection, keep many movies on your device or download many 1gb+ games then you will be fine with 16gb. I hovered around 5gb left while keeping one or two full backups as I was flashing roms alot on the N4, that said I was deleting stuff on a regular basis to keep memory free.
If you plan on rooting I would personally recommend the Developer Edition, unlocking and gaining root is very simple and you retain your full Motorola warranty even after unlocking. It is also 32gb, selling the S3 & S4 you should be close to it not costing you anything.

Smaller screen, I believe I can adjust. I didn't have any issues when I played with it in best buy. Now I'm sure I'll realize it more as I use it more but I think it'll be okay. Its more knowing I'm going from 1080p to 720, but I know its not a huge difference an really only noticeable if you set the devices next to one another. I don't store anything on my phone. All music is through Google music. Though I keep a couple playlists of about 100 songs each stored on phone through Google music, but not a huge deal since I have unlimited data. I also never change out batteries so the removal one isn't a deal breaker.
Lastly I Dont bother rooting my phones anymore cause I always end up tinkering too much lol so I just want a solid, fast device. I'm just tired of Samsung's slow UI cover. Plus I hear so much praise on the X with its features that I want to try. Just worry downgrading in specs but I know performance is just as good as the S4. Main thing is the screen I guess.

The colors on the Moto X are better imo as well as many other people then the S4. As far as specs just remember this might be the first time the software and hardware have been trully optimized for Android, when that's done there is no need to use more processor cores just like Apple has been doing with I-phones.
I have been a flashing junkie since I bought an original Droid, I rooted my Dev Edition for the main purpose of using Titanium Backup for games and apps in case there is a bad update in the Play Store. I found using Xposed with the Gravity Box module gave me practically every option I usually looked for in a rom while using the stock software, I have since flashed all my families devices back to stock and use Gravity Box.
I don't think you have to worry about Moto releasing a new phone until late summer/fall, they know that style of releasing phones every few months doesn't work for them as it does for Samsung. Producing quality handsets and supporting them with very fast updates is winning Motorola new/past customers and the way they are treating the Android community is something that the other OEM's should strive to emulate.
Yeah the internal specs Dont bother me much because the I know the performance is still top notch. Its mostly the the screen adjustment and going for a 5" screen to 4.7". But I think itd be nice to be able to use my phone again with one hand lol my S4 I can do most things one handed but there are still definitely instances where I need two.

But I think itd be nice to be able to use my phone again with one hand lol my S4 I can do most things one handed but there are still definitely instances where I need two.

Absolutely. The X is the first phone I don't really care what the internal specs are or feel compelled to switch to CM or any other roms. I love it.
S3 ->Note 2 -> s4 -> HTC one -> nexus 4 -> moto x
My point is I've slowly downgraded the spec sheet and have no regrets. Comparing apples to apples. Every device listed was running AOSP/AOKP/CM and the last 2 phones have been by far the smoothest even though on paper they don't quite stack up to the others. Battery life is above average but not great in my opinion but the ergonomics of this phone is one of the best I've had in a long time

Best phone I've ever owned. It's so fast and fluid even with the "inferior" specs. Not only that, but coming from a Droid DNA with its 1080p screen, I prefer the Moto X screen with the much nicer colors and I can't even tell the difference in resolution.
Get the Moto X.
Putting in my 2 cents,
I have had a Galaxy note 2 with a 5.5in screen for the past year. I love the phone, mostly due to the amazing battery life and the large screen.
I bought my wife a Moto X last week. I have since rooted it, and have been tinkering with it. I gotta say, I want one. I don't really mind the difference in screen size that much. Battery life is just as good, if not better (remains to be further tested). Always on voice controls are super cool. And you have kitkat.
I wouldn't pay attention to the so called "specs". Yeah it's a dual core compared to my quad core Note 2, but in reality it is just as snappy (if not snappier)
Plus, my Note 2's compass sensor has always been dysfunctional. It never was steady, just jumps around. When I saw Windy Day and how flawlessly it worked with the built-in sensors, I was blown away.
I think Motorola is on the right path. With the recently lowered prices, near stock experience and the unlocked developer edition (on Verizon, which I still can't believe those bastards allowed it) Moto X is an awesome phone with great value. I especially like that Moto is going for improving the overall experience rather than getting into a pissing contest over specs.
I hate, really *HATE* Verizon, but let's face it, they have the best LTE network and I still happen to have unlimited data. I especially hate their practice of not letting anybody else sell devices that are compatible with Verizon's network (ie. Nexus 7). I hate the fact that I can't simply buy a cheap new phone from the manufacturer, but instead have to buy them from Verizon or their approved vendors like BestBuy for much more than what they would cost direct from the manufacturer.
I honestly can't believe that Motorola was able to price the Moto X at $399 with no contract on Verizon. Verizon likes to say that the phones actually cost $700 but you're getting a $400 discount when you sign a contract and pay $300 for the phone, when in reality, the phone would cost $400 and you're only getting a hundred bucks for signing the contract. Kudos to Moto. I hope it sets the stage for other manufacturers

Coming from a Note 2, the adjustment wasn't difficult at all. The only thing I miss is multi-window.

Verizon has the moto x for 50 bucks right now with a 2 year contract. I just bought one for my son. My wife and I both have the DE phones I paid 450 each on motorola.com...I have unlimited on both. Best phone I have ever owned hands down.
Well my original offer fell through but I'm suppose to be getting a 32gb version tomorrow for $350. So fingers crossed!
I never use multiwindow on my S4 so won't miss that. And the IR blaster, very cool but I only use when screwing around with friends TVs lol I think in the end, the moto x has more useful extras than the galaxy devices.

I just hope this phone doesn't show its age too soon. Just read an artical comparing the nexus 5 and X. Talking about the X showing its age quicker. Which is obvious since the nexus 5 has upgraded processor, etc. But just hoping I don't slow downs in speed and use in a year from now.

If you have the mindset about not getting a phone because its going to be outdated or not the newest, shiniest in a year your never going to get a phone!!!
The phone cycle is practically six months or so.
To be honest, phones are hitting their critical ass point ad far as specs go. When all these reviews talk about this phone is faster than that one they're talking millisecond at this point.
Find a phone that you like size wise, screen looks good to you and just buy it.
If you don't ur always gonna be waiting for the next new thing.
