Yeah, you searched so well that you are pointing me an app that doesn't answers my question at all  I DID search before posting and I didn't find anything. Now I'm not even sure that you know what sweep2wake is. For anyone who don't know, s2w is a KERNEL feautre, so developers have to implement this. Only rooted nexus devices can add this as an app but they are the only exception (see PGM app in play store). This feature allows you to make a swipe on your screen *while it is off* (is kept on only the digitalizer and if you don't touch the screen, you won't have battery drain) to turn it on and vice versa. It's useful especially on big screens where reaching on/off buttons is not easy. About all HTC phones has it (even desire x, not an hi-end device), Sony xperia z and many other devices join day after day. LG g2 has this feature out of the box (OK, it's a double tap to wake, more than a sweep, but the way it works is the same, changes only the gesture).
And I checked all the 4x kernels out there, but didn't find this feature listed. And I'm asking why, since 4x has the same SoC of HTC one x, so it couldn't be so hard..
Sorry not to be the little lazy noob that you expected.

We have double-tap-2-wake or slide about the the buttons under the display.
This features is in Iodaks kernel look here:

OK, so it's work in progress, great news I couldn't find it because it wasn't added in the OP, it's something that came out a week ago and it's not working the best way..but it's coming finally. Thank you!

Did you bother reading the threads that had previously been created in the 4X forums which discussed Sweep2Wake? I searched for them and found that link which is why I posted it.
The reason I didn't research that app properly is because I have absolutely zero interest in this feature but as there were several threads discvered by searching -- one of which included my posting this on the 18th December last year
On the old HTC Desire S we had "Sweep2Wake" - but that requires kernel modifications AFAIK. Maybe something for the future as it was quite a nice feature, and I don't like using physical buttons to wake my phone as it wears them out too quickly.

so I would suggest that I am well aware exactly what S2W is and what it does
You would also have discovered that one of our key developers @laufersteppenwolf has looked at implementing this feature in Werewolf (both Kernel & ROM) but isn't sure due to the battery drain used in keeping the digitiser on all the time.
So, are you still going to claim you actually bothered to search properly?

You are telling me things that I had already discovered long time ago..but nothing satisfied me, so I needed to ask. And in fact I got even more than I wanted. And now I find useless going on with this thread because the answer was given and no additional considerations are needed..

[SOLVED][Q] Capacitive Buttons

First of all let me say that I am a brand new owner of a Captivate (switched from iPhone 3GS) and I'm absolutely loving it. I used to be a big user of jailbreak apps so naturally I've been diving right into the modding community of Android. I was just wondering and this may be a tired, old topic but is there any way at all to change the backlight period on the capacitive buttons. Like maybe set them so they only turn off when the screen is locked? Its not too big of a deal (I've had the phone for 2 days now and have already learned their positions for the most part) but it'd be a nice tweak to have. I'm using BLN already so I know theres someway to control the buttons but haven't been able to find such a tweak. Any help would be great thanks!

[Q] How is it to type with the accelerometer (tapping on the sides)?

When I was reading a review about LG Optimus 2X on GSMArena what I found REALLY cool is the feature in which you perform a little tap on the side of the phone to make the text cursor go precisely to the left or right.
What it feels like? I kept wondering what happens if you're typing on a bus though!
Used that feature dor the few days on stock... Works surprisingly good, the odd vibration is ignored, you really have to tap on a side to trigger the cursor movement. Waving the device around, sitting in a train on a rough ride etc won't do anything.
Loved that feature but, imho, since GB brought the blue "cursor-enlargement" it isn't really needed anymore.
I used it for Music. Previous and Next-Track on Tap. It was very useful in my Eyes.:good:

Theoretically of course. Already came across it during development of my hybrid ROM. LG gestures code definitely can be ported, but I never checked in detail on how to completely port and activate it. Also I fear I don't have time for it currently.
I hope you can find some time as this is great feature

I think the feature might be pretty handy.
It isn't that easy to reach the corners of the screen so when you want to put the cursor in the initial position of a line it'd be useful. Also my HTC EVO 3D used to refuse to put the cursor after the dot in a phrase in the end of the line (oddly when I went testing now I could do it flawlessly).
Anyway I'm looking to buy this phone to my sister that's why I got interested.

what is sleep2wake?

Hi all,
I know this is probably a very noob-ish question, but can someone tell me exactly what sleep2wake (S2W) is and what the benefits of it are? I've seen several references to it on the forums and I've seen a few posts mentioning that it can have a negative effect on battery life, but I haven't come across any mention of it's real purpose.
Thanks
actually s2w mean swipe to wake. search in this forum about kernel.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
It's a function from a custom kernel that allows you to swipe your capacitive buttons to wake or lock your phone. Basically functions like your power button.

Ahh, I got it now. Thanks to you both for the info. I was a little confused. l0st.prophet referred to it as sleep2wake in this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30901781&postcount=351 . I guess he meant swipe2wake?
Anyhoo, doesn't sound like something I'd really need anyway, especially if it affects battery life noticeably.
Thanks again for the info

Yes it's Swipe2wake, can also swipe to sleep . Anyway yes I would disable it if you use redux kernel as it's enabled by default, the battery drain is noticable.

[Requires Root][Open Source] Doubletap to Wake Enabler v1.2

Nexus 6 Doubletap To Wake
Description
Enables the "double tap to wake" feature that the Nexus 6 shipped with.. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this. I am offering it for free to members of xda-developers; you can find the apk below. If you wish to donate, feel free to download it from the Google Play Store for $0.99 (USD):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codechron.n6doubletapunlock
If you wish to view the code or build from source to verify that nothing mischievous is going on, you may find the code on Github. Note that the code may be slightly messy; most of my development experience lies elsewhere.
https://github.com/smskelley/Nexus-6-Tap-to-Wake/
Video
@techfanatic9 was kind enough to make a video demonstrating the installation and basic use of this app.
Caveats
Google's built in implementation of double tap to wake isn't perfect. It's likely why it wasn't enabled out of the box. Some users have indicated that if their device has been sleeping for a while, double tap to wake isn't always reliable. It is very unlikely to cause harm to your Nexus 6, but extensive longterm testing has not yet been done. Additionally, this is unlikely to work on anything but the Nexus 6. By downloading now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
Changelog
Version 1.2 - Mostly bugfixes.
Enhanced error checking.
If a non rooted device opens this application, it should no longer crash.
Small formatting changes.
Version 1.1 - Persist through reboot.
Settings now persist through reboot.
Changed name from "Doubletap to Unlock" to "Doubletap to Wake".
Updated Icon. Doesn't look amazing, but it's better than it was.
Updated some text.
Version 1.0 - Initial Version
Implemented the ability to turn on or off Double Tap to Wake
Dope! Testing right meow

You, sir or miss, are an amazing person. Coming from having the g2 and then the g3 I'm pretty accustomed to the knock on/off. Thank you for getting this out there on the swift tip.
Thanks, I am coming from the G3 and I still double tap my nexus at times since I'm so used to it. This works perfectly, I wonder why google took the feature out?
Just tested and works. This feature is essential since the phone lacks infrared sensors like the X. Nice work!

I have created an app for the Nexus 6 which enables the "double tap to unlock" feature. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this.
I have only tested it on my device. I wouldn't expect it to work on anything but the Nexus 6. It is very unlikely to cause harm to other devices, but know that by downloading it right now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

I dunno, but there is a commit in aosp that specifically disabled double tap to wake in HAL, for shamu.
Possibly to avoid pocket double tap? Or random double taps on accident.
If you reboot your phone, it breaks. You have to re-enable it again. Just letting you know.
it would be cool if you could double tap and wake the screen in ambient display mode
It doesn't take the proximity sensor into effect, so if your pocket double taps your phone, it will wake up. Next to my buddies OnePlus. If you cover the proximity sensor it won't double tap to wake.
This will wake no matter what. Just an FYI.
Works great for me. Thank you very much @naxir now the Nexus behaves like my G3

Are there any double tap to wake or swipe gestures when screen off for the Note 4 et?

It's something I love using on my Nexus 5 (through ElementalX kernel) and on my OnePlus One. Curious if there's a kernel implementation on the Note 4 (Snapdragon version).

Ah, the tap to lock/unlock on the ElementalX Nexus 5 was amazing. I posted something like this a while back in a development thread, the developer said he would give it a shot but we haven't heard anything since.
bumping this up a few months later. just ran saw two reviews for Xnote and another ROM, neither seemed to have the feature implemented but i'm hoping it wasn't shown?
anyone? if i'm going back the lack of a response meaning those features don't exist, then i'm surprised. off screen gestures are a great way to skip tracks when the phone is mounted in the car. i know the long press volume button is a popular choice but that requires actual pressure.

I can't tell you if better than vision or not as I'm not familiar with that kernel. I can say it is a pretty nice & stable kernel (my preference so far) on my 910T.
