Pls could you explain how exacty you did it? By "the updater" you mean Sony PC Companion??? My phone all of a sudden wouldn't work properly when in a phone call, I could hear the other person but they wouldn't hear me. So I just turned off my phone and when I tried to turn it back on the triangle icon wth wrench and screwdriver appeared (I had around 40% battery). I left it like that for almost an hour and since it wouldn't turn back on I did the power+volume up but it would load back on to the triangle. Then I removed the micro sd and power+volume up and it loaded the sony logo, then the xperia logo, then this sony colored waves/smoke started and the 3rd time this "wave" crossed the screen, it just froze and began a never ending loop of sony+xperia+waves+restart... over and over again :S I tried pluggin it on my pc and starting the Sony PC companion but doesnt recognizes the phone :crying:
Thx in advance for any help! (btw, my xperia z is with the latest update installed)
Don't worry about the battery, it keeps charging even, if the phone software is dead. just pop it on the charger dock. i had similar cases.
Hey guys,
I'm seemingly having the same problem here, so I'll share my notes, if somebody could make any sense out of this.
A few days back the phone prompted for an update to be installed, which I then did.
Today I decided to restart my device since it was draining battery quite fast and got all this screwdriver thingy happening all out of a sudden. This phase went over in maybe about an hour. I was stupid enough to try restarting the device in-between though, which might have messed it up...
After this I got into the endless loop of Sony-XPERIA-waves-restart. And basically i'm still in it.
Tried to flash a stock ROM with Flashtool, but it'd only say in log that device connected in flash mode, and eventually disconnect. Also tried to repair with PC Companion. It downloaded the ROM and connected to the phone in flash mode stating "Updating.." (translated), but eventually said it'd failed (obviously timed out..?) Did try many times.
When the phone is not plugged in a charger it can be turned off with pwr+vol.up untill three vibrates, BUT when plugged, it will just reset and go back to loop. EDIT: In charger it's looping only SONY-restart-SONY-etc.
I fixed it!!
I finally fixed it!!
All I did was download a stock ftf (I found the italian unbranded version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293794) and flashed it with flashtool beta 6 ( tutorial on how to do it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240614). At first it wouldn't start flashing but I tried several times plugging and unplugging my phone while holding volume down and it finally flashed It was the 1st time I ever flashed a ROM or anything so I'm sure anyone can do it.
I hope it helped.

Mmh. I've tried over and over again. No luck. :/

Now it also wouldn't even start looping anymore. When I power up the device (unplugged) it gives me "SONY" and then shuts down...
And when I connect it to USB it first turns on, gives me "SONY" and goes into flash mode (according to Flashtool)
Guess I should just take it in to service. It's naturally got warranty left after all...

Hi guys,
Just some background.
I bought my Xperia Z on . It was all good. I did not root or meddle with anything. It is pure stock.
Then suddenly, today while browsing using chrome, it just hangs and goes black.
I rebooted it but then once it get to the lock screen, it will hang again and reboot itself again. This goes on and on.
I then did a hardware reset. Hold Power and Vol Up for more than 15 seconds. The device vibrated 3 times. I booted it up again and the reboot cycle continues. Whenever it gets to the lockscreen, it will hang and reboot itself again.
Any one else having this problem?
Use pc companion to repair the phone.

Hey needing abit of help here
last night i rooted my xperia Z and installed CWM the locked bootloader way
after the cwm finishes installing the phone boots into cwm right away and all works fine...however...
i read on how to boot to recovery myself by turning the phone on and when the LED'S start changing colour to keep pushing the volume up key.
for some reason my when booting my LED goes green and stays green and the phone boots straight away normally so if i want to access cwm i have to keep flashing it to the phone first but i dont get why.
am i missing something here or have you any idea whats went wrong?
please help
thanks
Install the XZRecovery.apk and use the Reboot Recovery option.

If you haven't managed to get it installed from the computer then unfortunately you need to reflash and start all over if that happens, or at least to getting rooted and CWM reinstalled then you can just flash your backup.
I ran into a bootloop after flashing a mod my phone didn't like lol. I used the Sony update service to flash the firmware back again although it failed 1st time then I had to get the pc to pick up the phone and thank god it did I started again. So I rooted the phone again and flashed twrp using the app you recommended. But still when the phone boots up the LED doesn't change colour it just stays off or goes green on boot up. But I have the extended boot options to get into recovery mode now so it's all good. But thank you for your help m8

Hi Guys, wondering if anyone could help ?
My Z1 has run into a black screen issue a few days ago. Was on it like usual in the morning and just went to a black screen when I locked it. Thought it froze fo left it a bit, but still wouldn't respond.
Tried Vol+ and Power and button next to sim card, discharging it, nothing works. It doesn't charge (no LED) and isnt recognised by the computer.
Can anyone help, or is it completely bricked ?
Please try and give us a clue, are you rooted, have you unlocked, which kernel, which rom, which firmware, what did you do just before this happened

Sorry,
Rooted
Re-Locked bootloader (Couldn't do no camera)
monXdifed v01.02-01
Stock kernel
And I think I was turning off the alarm or something, nothing specific
Charge it for several hours then use pccompanion to repair.
If that does not work, use flashtool
Thanks, tryning now. Will post back in the evening after work
Same issue
My Mrs z1 had same issue black screen and not charging today, but this is on non rooted stock firmware (non Modded) (t-Mobile UK)
Luckily holding power & Vol up rocker shut it down (3 vibrations) and fix the charging issue.
Fingers crossed. Haven't bothered to turn it on yet but will assume it will start up ok now. Will leave it on charge. and update this afternoon.
[edit]
Yup all good now.
I had a similar incident with my Xperia T when I first got it. Screen black and no way to see what was going on. Non modded again.
Without a logger running in the background there will be no way to know what is causing the issue.

Tried both PC companion and flashtool, and neither of them worked. Drivers are installed and tried with both holding vol up and vol down whilst plugging in but the computer didnt recognize the device
Any ideas anybody ?? Sorry for bringing it back up
run flashtool
choose ftf to flash
do not connect phone until prompted to do so by flashtool, when you do press volume down as you attach the usb cable..
Tried it and didnt work. When promted, I plugged it in and held vol down but it didnt recognize. The instructional animation went a bit crazy but I think thats just my computer
what computer do you have?
Windows 8?
Windows 7, 64bit. Did I maybe not install the drivers correctly ?
seems so,
run drivers.exe from flashtool and choose tx, fastboot and flashmode drivers
Tried installing flashmode, fastboot, tx and z1 drivers. Still the same things happening
Try another computer
