Hello guys im new to the forum.
I use stock unrooted 4.1.2 JB on my I8190 but I am a little bit disappointed because it slows down sometimes and I'm willing to install Faria's [ROMS][JZ054K.I9190.XXAMA1][4.1.2-Jelly-bean] [26.01.2013] V5.1.
Link
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074514
I'd like to ask some basic questions:
1. Is there any step by step guide?
2. Will I be able to restore my stock 4.1.2 and all apps if I dont like it or decide to go for further official upadets?
3. Can I download official firmware via OTA or KIES in the future?
4. Will I lose my warranty?
5. I need to be sure that I will not lose any of my preinstalled apps, I am busy lately and browsing play store consumes time.
I used to 'play' a little with my old Motorola Milestone so I was jumping between custom roms. Have some experience.
I'd really appreciate if somebody helped me.
Cheers.

1. Its availabe on faria's thread only, under how to flash section
2. You can always revert everything back. Refer this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159660 Thanks to samersh72
3. With Faria's Rom 5.1 i dont think update through kies is possible. But the Rom status is official. You can flash the update or try OTA.
4. Play with your device at your risk. Make sure you follow correct steps. Learn more before you try. Warranty can be gained by reverting everything.
Thanks to Chainfire(TriangleAway),Faria,Benzonator,Shaan,Infected,Tyson and all S3 mini developers for making it possible.
5. Roms have un-necessary apps removed. Remember to take backup of everything in yo device before proceeding for anything. For missing apps, always playstore or restore ya backup
Thank you for quck reply
And question for my consideration: how would rate stock firmware and Faria's one in scale 1-10? And how firmware update affects your using experience?

I'm on Faria V5.1 ROM too. Is a good custom ROM, but still original Samsung based. I don't like the official ROM, it have a lot of bloatware, not really quick, and not really smooth... So...
Stock ROM - a poor 3!
Faria V5.1 ROM - a good 7!
I hope one day we'll get CM for the mini!
Hi Everyone
After waiting for a year now and it seems that Samsung didn't released any newer updates for my Note GT-N7000 at my country. I was hoping for them to release an update to prevent that "MMC_CAP_ERASE bug? that causes hardbrick" that i have been hearing around here..
But now i got tired of waiting and Now I want to try to root/flash to a safe custom rom, Since i am currently having some problems with my Note now. It's acting a little weird like apps not functioning properly and deleting a small MB file on Internal Memory it takes very long to get it deleted Annoying artifacts appearing during at Dark or Black scenes while watching a video. Using Earphones while watching a video the audio sometimes got muted itself then for a few seconds it resumes back with audio back on repeatedly.
I have only experience on rooting and flashing my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 but i had a soft brick thanks to the person who posted misleading instructions that causes this to happen. But eventually i managed to recovered from the soft brick and successfully flashing to a JB custom rom
Yeah before you asked me "have you read this Important thread ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 " Yes I have already read everything on the first post by dr ketan at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Anyway, Here is my Information i found on my Note.
Model Number is GT-N7000.
Android Version 4.0.4 Stock ICS.
Baseband version N7000DXLR1.
Kernel Version 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032
Build Number IMM76D.DXLR5
Here are my questions,
[Q Number 1]
I have already read everything on the first post by dr ketan. I notice there's so many of methods to root the Note. But I'm not sure which one is the safest and easiest method to Root and Flash Hopefully someone here is kind to guide me through the process since this is my first time rooting and flashing on a Note GT-N7000 running on Android 4.0.4 Stock ICS.
[Q Number 2]
There's tons of JB custom roms everywhere! I'm not sure which one is the best and popular one. I'm looking for a fast and stable Jellybean custom rom that are currently available for my Note GT-N7000.
I will be waiting and checking this thread regularly

The safest and easiest way to flash ROM and get ROOT at the same time is using Odin Mobile, which offers option for getting ROOT.
You can use Stock ROM LT4.
For most popular custom ROMs : Eybee1970, Team Union, Alliance, Sweet,
ThaiDai ROM for slim and mutillanguage, Glory ROM also for multilanguage with mods.
There are a lot of other good ROMs here, you have to read more to find out what suits better to your taste.

The safest and easiest way doesn't exist. It's up to you.
And best Rom threads and questions are simply against XDA policy, read the rules and you'll see.

Hello there
I'm really sorry if i just break some of the rules here. I wonder if it's okay for me to just follow the recommended method 1A by dr ketan ? Now i am in PhilZ thread i suppose i have to find my own Galaxy Note Kernel Version first right ? which is DXLR5 so i guess i have to download this kernel here http://www.mediafire.com/?c2jmfqnwajw8ei1 .PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-v3.99 Then flash it in the menu called Stock Recovery (VolumeUP+HOME+POWER button)
I found out that my Baseband version has a DXLR1 in there. Should i be worry on this ?
The PhilZ kernel file listed v3.99 there. my Kernel Version is 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032, Example when i managed to flash that kernel. I guess that my Kernel Version will changed to like 3.9.9.9 am i right ? or it is not okay to just flash to latest updated kernel like v3.99 ?
I hope it's okay to just answer my newbie questions here. I need someone to help me and tell me whether if i did it right or wrong.
Thank you very much

No problem when you see :
- Baseband DXLR1
- Difference between 3.99 and 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032.The first is the Philz own version, the second is the Samsung one.
It's normal.

1.As far as rooting method is concerned on said thread, all the methods are safe. there are pros and cons of different method and already mentioned on thread.
I do recommend 1A, as it will root device as well gives you protection from brick bug and without raising flash counter too. So in case you want to go that way, download LR5 philx kernel in zip version and flash from stock recovery.
2.See ROM selection is totally depends on own taste, you can never rely on others answer, but best way go through OP of custom ROM thread, read features mentioned, read some reviews/bugs and try it yourself. that's the only and best way.

First of all, Dr Ketan Thank you very much for helping me with this. I really appreciate your help Yeah i understand what you're trying to mean about that custom ROMs I will take a look at all of them later.
But now I want to see if i got it right again. I will flash it after you give me the final confirmation i need :victory:
1. Find my own stock Kernel build code DXLR5 then go to PhilZ thread and find PhilZ Kernel that listed my Kernel code which is PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-v3.99 then download it After that Connect a USB cable to the computer + Note then copy the PhilZ kernel and place at Root dir of External microSD card then turn off Galaxy Note, then hold VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER button for a few seconds to boot in Stock Recovery Menu then flash it at there. am i right ?
Last question here, Finding a Custom Rom that suit my needs might take awhile since i haven't read all of them yet. But i wonder if it's okay to stay in Stock ICS Android 4.0.4 + PhilZ Kernel ?

1.Yes, but remember you have to select zip version of kernel not tar
obviously there is nothing wrong to stay on stock with safe kernel till you couldn't find out best custom ROM for you.

Okay Yeah i got the signed version instead of that .tar version which is for ODIN.
Good News! i just flashed it and it works! I have SuperSU application installed. I really appreciate all your help that you have done dr ketan thank you very much. Now i have PhilZ CWM kernel. does it uses the same buttons to activate it like the stock recovery ? VOLUMEUP+HOME+POWER BUTTON,
my apologies if this question has been asked before but since i couldnt find it anywhere so i am posting now:
this is my first time rooting an android device and that too coz recently my htc desire c had become super slow so i unlocked bootloader and downloaded the hasoon2000 tool but after the recovery step i was totally lost on how to flash kernel and all so i switched to superboot and i successfully rooted my phone.
now i wanted to install a rom so i chose nameless rom but the instructions were so confusing and i messed up. i couldn't install it and then my phn wnt start so i went back to hasoon2000 and flashed kernel using the boot.img from the nameless rom and my phn was back up but my wifi is not on anymore. its says error and i saw that my mac address was gone. then i tried again installing the rom and this time i did successfully install it but my wifi is gone
i have two questions:
1. how can i get my wifi back in this rom?
2. can i install any other rom and if i do then will i get my wifi back?

The 'method' to install any ROM is the same and its not difficult. And there is no such thing as a best rom. It's just personal preferences. So if you like HTC Sense, then go for Revolution or Sensational Rom. And if you like a more 'Nexus-like' feel then we've got a lot of JB Roms for you. JB ROMs are believed to be faster than Sense ROMs in general.
So just look at threads of the different ROMs and once you decide to install, download it. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 right now. I've been using it for a long while now. It was the first JB rom made for this phone and all the other ROMs are made using this as a base..
We even have Samsung-like and Xperia-like Roms. So if you're interested in that, have a look.
And for Sense, Sensational ROM V4 is the most up to date ROM we have. It has a Sense 5 feel to it..
Hope that helps a bit. One more thing - never ask for best rom or best kernel. It's bad manners. But we can understand as you're new..

Click this link and make sure you only use the files labelled for the SGH-I537 US (AT&T) Active
Stay away from the international threads, a lot of their custom development won't work on your phone. The only "custom recovery" that won't brick your phone is SafeStrap and there isn't a huge selection of roms; the best choices right now are GoldenEye, Goldfinger, or Hyperdrive (if you like the touchwiz experience) and Pure Nexus if you prefer the AOSP look and feel
THANK YOU

Hyperdrive if you like touchwiz - Samsung's version of Android, how stock Samsung phones look but with more theming and customization, or
Pure Nexus if you like AOSP, so-called "vanilla" android, closest to how google makes android actually look (closest to the cyanogenmod look and feel). This rom (in both theming and overall experience) is based off of the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4.
Other than that there aren't many options. I would argue at the very least those are the two with the most support or ongoing development, although someone please correct me if I'm forgetting any others. Which of the two roms you choose I think really comes down to a fundamental personal preference: do you prefer Touchwiz or AOSP? Although again, someone chime in if you disagree with my assessment.
Im looking forward to install the Nexus room. I actually like more AOSP better than TouchWiz . Do i have to install the Google applications seperate or is already included on the room and SuperSU app?
Sorry to ask you many questions but your the only one helping me out and i appreciated your help!!

Good questions. You do not have to install the Google applications, they're included in the rom. You WILL however have to install SuperSU while installing the rom. Simply download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and flash it immediately after flashing the rom zip file (i.e. before you first boot up).
If you prefer AOSP over TouchWiz, definitely go with the Nexus rom. Just some notes, the first boot up will take a fairly long time, this is normal and just be patient. Actually it takes a while (I'd say up to a day or two) for the rom to really "settle in." And one noticeable bug that's easy to deal with: turn off Wi-Fi right before you either power off or reboot. If you don't do that, Wi-Fi will not work properly. Should you forget to do that, Wi-Fi can still be fixed with a hot reboot. So not a crippling bug, just something to keep track of. Other than that I can't think of anything, just good luck and make sure to always make backups before doing anything. It's always my pleasure to help whenever I can
bricked???
Can someone please help! My phone is showing the message: Update failed try again using kies ( or something very close to that), it won't enter recovery mode, all I can get to is Odin mode, yet when I try to flash the firmware it failed every time, out fails when it gets to boot in the dialog box. I tried to flash another boot animation, so I'm assuming that's where I went wrong, can someone please tell me what I can do to fix this? I'd be eternally grateful, thank you!

***I didn't even realize it was being posted in, my apologies for not updating this sooner.
I have decided to compile a list of ROMs that I have successfully booted, while maintaining root. This is, more or less, a continuation of this thread, just wanted to create a more thorough and organized collection. The Flashfire app adding aroma support has really opened up some possibilities for us, and with the extended delay of Marshmallow, I felt this could be helpful to some of you wanting to try something new. Also, I'd like to thank @Rakuu for the idea, I want to test more roms and expand on our list.
WARNINGS: The roms listed are not officially supported, thus results may vary. This is the standard liability warning, I am not responsible for any damage you do to your device using the roms and/or methods given. In the event a rom doesn't boot, you can try flashing the following kernels for your device using ODIN in the AP slot. It should also be mentioned that some of these roms contain aroma installers and require Flashfire, as safestrap does not support aroma.

Hi there,
I tried this rom, but hangouts crashes. Tried a full wipe, cleared dalvik and cache, cleared data and cache on hangouts, uninstalled and reinstalled hangouts, still crashes. Does it work for you?
Well, I dumped the Infiniti ROM. I need hangouts. Tried everything including flashing 3 different Gapps packages for 5.0 through flashfire. I've tried probably 15 different Roms over the years and I've stumbled on the best one of all:
Freedom from is by far the best for the att s5. It has an AOSP feel to it. You dont even notice TouchWiz. It has the Google dialer and camera(won't do 4k, but I use open camera and force 4k. The dialer alone makes it so much better. I encourage everyone on att s5 to use freedom ROM. I flashed it though flashfire.
One note. There is no boot up screen, just stays on the initial Samsung boot loader screen. First boot took like 10 minutes too. Also, you will need to change the APN (it's set for Verizon) to your carrier. I'm on an unlocked att s5 using T-Mobile. Was easy to change the APN.
This ROM rocks!

Well, just noticed the Freedom rom doesn't have any tethering options. If anyone knows how to enable this, please let me know. I'm off to put another rom on this (again). Thank you ATT for locking the bootloader, jackasses.
Thank you very much. But i'm lost in how to install these roms, especially the Phoenix. Need help. (G900A).

Can you tell me witch onde is better? Alliance, TMS5 or Phoenix?
Is aliance 9.0 working through flash fire ? Do I need to flash a kernel after I flash rom ? A few directions might help .... v8.0 worked great. I'd like to try v9 but seems Noone wants to actually post any help for all the people asking ....just telling people to flash in ff and nothing else is not very helpful .... do I wipe ?do I need a separate kernel ? Is there Change log for this version ? Anything I need to no about it ?

I just flashed the Phoenix v11 and i got the AT&T no go screen. As @IJoxer wrote, i flashed the G900A OC4 Kernel via Odin in AP slot and download mode in the phone (power+vol up+home) and the rom booted nicely. I think that they already tested these roms of the post and they work somehow.
Just want to thank again for all effort.
PS: is a team developer rom better than single person rom in general? Any advice of Phenix vs TMS5 vs Alliance?

As far as I have seen tms 5 was better than any thing we had until the phoenix ROM came around its a bit snappier than tms 5 and a bit more stable also . tms 5 seemed laggy after a while . also I've noticed if you don't leave at least 1gb of phone memory for any ROM to run on it will get buggy . for a while I thought it was the ROMs . but found out it was lack of memory . but I prefer Phoenix ROM myself.

Thank you for you help!
I used for a considerable time the TMS5 3.0 and the Alliance v8 roms and I had the same impression about the laggy stuff. Also, I came in the same conclusion as you about the time of use, lack of memory and get buggy. I agree in all of that.
I tried the Phoenix yesterday and I liked it very much, but I got confused about the aroma choices. Could help me with the must have choices? About the kernel OC4, is this the stock kernel for android 5.0? I noticed thar TMS5 3.0 and Alliance v8 use the OC7. What's the difference and i will lost much in using the OC4?
Is there any other roms that you recommend?

OC7 is basically the OC4 Kernel for the G900F, which is the international version of the S5 that the ROM was developed for.
When you see a ROM that needs OC4 or OC7, its usually safe to use OC4, OF2, or OF3 because they all run the exact same Kernel.

Thank you very much for your answer. Also, thank you for all your work. I believe that many of us are anxious for a 6.0 rooted rom... :good:

Hey there, sorry I've been a ghost here lately. I'm also anxious to see if @AptLogic gets MM rooted rom running. As for a recommendation on the roms listed, I would definitely recommend Xtrestrolite 2.2, and it is my personal favorite. It comes with literally no apps though, so you'll need to download Google Play Services/Playstore manually and throw them on the phone via PC. I also recommend a file manager since you need to get around in order to install them.
Good luck!

Well at this point it seems that we need to be able to modify the boot image for the rooting... Which doesn't really bode well for us because locked bootloaders don't like it when you do that. Still working at it though, just trying to force a systemless root onto the system. Should have test build 3J out by this Saturday or sooner..
IN THE MEANTIME IF YOU WANT A S6 MM PORT I CAN GET THAT RUNNING IN A SNAP!

Personally, I'd prefer the rooted MM rom, I've had it with stock, and I'm sure an s6 port would be a headache without root. However, you're the one contributing, so I suppose it's up to you, either way it's appreciated. I'm still looking at my options to downgrade, if any, I'm willing to test, but looking for possible recovery options just in case.
I need me some root!
