Dumb, Dumber and me - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

N900A (AT&T so no custom recovery).
Rom de la Vega worked fine, got root. Loaded some apps, some needing root, some not. Didn't trigger the 0x1, it''s still 0x0.
Everything worked fine until ... well, I don't remember exactly what I did, but it wasn't anything close to "stupidest move ever made". Phone now boots to the Samsung logo with the circles orbiting each other, then goes to the AT&T symbol with a few (about 4) bars of music, and stops. No soft keys (they do flash on for about half a second) and the home key does nothing.
If I wait a few seconds, it reboots, back to the unlocked lock, the "Custom", the Samsung orbits, etc. I assume that's a boot loop.
ADB doesn't see a device. I can boot into recovery (standard AT&T thing), download or standard boot, but ADB doesn't see any device. (The computer is set up correctly - plug my wife's N900A into the same cable and Kies reads it immediately.)
I've tried N900AUCUBMI1_OneClickBin and it seems to run properly, running Odin 3.09 after about 5 minutes. Press Start and the files start downloading. (Port 22, but I''ve learned not to argue with Win7 serial port assignments.) It finishes with all files listed and a green "passed". The pnone boots into the little green guy, then into the boot loop. This is with the original 16GB microSD, a clean 2GB microSD or none at all. I've cleared cache/system or not - same results.
I can't finish the rest of the procedure, because I can't put anything into internal storage - because the computer doesn't see the phone.
I'm at the end of my knowledge. I don't know how things are laid out in Android, so I don't know what to flash or if there's anything I can flash to fix anything.,
Oh - nothing shows on the computer - no Phone and no Card. If USB debug got turned off, I don't know of any way to turn it on from outside. I can't run any Android apps, of course. It I have to, I can install Linux on a partition on this laptop, but is there something I can do to just get back a plain working (preferably rooted) Note 3?
If not, I'm going to have to go back to the big blue and yellow place and feign stupidity, and hope all the boot looping articles will convince them that this is just another one.

You didn't update to the latest MJ 5 firmware, did you? ,accidentally and then try the one click to mi 1?

That's possible. I''ve been looking for links to MI5 and MI9 but with all the deleted links, I haven't been able to find any. All I have is MI1 and the MI9 file with the .tar.md5 files, which I'm reluctant to use, in case I cause a hard brick.

help rooted samsung captivate wont fully boot

Hi,
I want to say that everyone is very helpful in this forum and you all rock. I'm having some problems with my rooted samsung captivate. I installed the I9000 Full rom, and it was running fine for a few days then I notice it was very sluggish, so I did a factory restore, but data and apps didn't delete. So I then when in to recovery (R2) and deleted cache and all user data files, then it did a factory restore, and it went in boot up pass the att and samsung S i9000 screen and when to the lock screen, but once I unlock the phone, its just in the black screen, when I click and hold on to the home button it goes to recent, no recnet application and under Task Manager, I have 0 active applications. It won't load any programs or apps. I tried restoring the phone by holding the down volume key and power on button, it goes to R2 recovery and then reinstall package, but it can't find the package. I have it on the memory card, but I guess I deleted it from the internal memory when I did a factory restore. Am I screw, or can someone guide me through this and fix my fone. Thanks in advance. XDA Rules.
Odin one click back to stock, assuming you can get into download mode. Also do a master clear just to be sure. A fresh start might be just what your Captivate needs.

The same thing happened to me yesterday. Phone was on, battery fully charged. I got on my flight and left it on (forgot I guess) and when I got off the flight, the screen was black. I'll also add, that over the past 3 days the phone was starting to get extremely sluggish (for no reason that I can think of). But back to the rest of the story...
I couldn't get it to turn on, so I pulled the battery and tried again. This time I got the AT&T logo and the Samsung animation. Once the animation was completed the screen goes black.
The phone is still on. How do I know? If I touch any of the bottom buttons they light up.... and stay lit up until I do a battery pull.
Deleted/cleared everything, same behaviour.
I tried reflashing JI6, it works but fails to reinstall the packages, otherwise same behaviour.
I tried reflashing JF6, same behaviour.
The flashes always succeed, but always end up in failure.
Now for the interesting part. I went into recovery mode on JI6. I try to format the internal /sdcard, I get a message that it cannot mount /sdcard /dev... not found.
So to recap, phone not working, recovery mode available, download mode available. adb doesn't seem to be working, but if someone can tell me how to access the phone with "adb shell" while in recovery mode, I might be able to diagnose why /dev... is not mounting... Or at least how I could fix it using adb.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm traveling and needless to say, this is a huge inconvenience, I'm lucky I had my backup phone to at least be able to get online and be able to make calls.
HI,
thanks for quick response. I can get to the recovery mode, where the android holding the shovel. But when I load Odin one click, it don't seem to detect and do anything. o success 0 failed. I installed the samsung captivate windows 7 drivers, the funny thing is when I plug my brink phone in the usb port, it say unrecongize usb. Any other suggestions. Thanks

the shovel is NOT recovery mode, it is download mode.
have ODIN running BEFORE you get your phone in download mode

Captivate gets stuck with black screen after booting. No response to anything

Phone: Samsung Captivate I-896, with AT&T stock Android 2.2 flashed to it. Rooted and unlocked.
Action: Deleted some *.odex files from Root/Data/App, following a guide to get around the "out of space" message while trying to install software. Cleared Delviks cache directory.
Problem: First restart after above actions(which didn't resolve the out of space message issue), phone shows start-up animations, gets stuck with black screen. Left like this overnight, nothing happens. Vibrates every 50 seconds or so. Respons to hardware Vol+ press with the home/back/menu backlight. Otherwise, no response to anything, black screen(backlight on). Does not receive phone calls. I do not know for sure if the action listed above is the one that caused this situation, but I assume so since it was the last action taken before the issue appeared.
Solutions attempted: Tried every possible permutation/combination of buttons/usb cable/etc/ restarts etc. listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858765&page=1, except Jig. The phone would not go into recovery or DL mode.
Question.
Am I correct in assuming that forcing the phone into recovery mode and reflashing a new system(or reflashing the old one) is the only way to get the phone to work again?
There is no way to "soft-reset" the phone, with all settings reverted back to stock, if it does not boot up completely?

Sounds pretty accurate. You'll have to get a jig to get in download mode, flash stock Odin KK4 to fix w/e happened during your testing.
Thanks Bwolf. I just tried ADB console on a different computer and it connects to the device just fine in spite of black screen. I guess I had one thing right, USB DEBUGGING enabled before this whole deal.
Question: is there any way I can restore the phone using the console without wiping everything?

Make a backup with ADB.
Once that's done, push download mode with it and get Odin KK4 (without bootloaders). You'll have to start from there to fix w/e went wrong.
You don't have to wipe your sd doing so but you will lose your apps and such. If you backed up your phone with your Play Store account, it will re-download your apps as you're done booting up.
To get back up where you were, grab Corn Kernel, flash it with Odin 1.87 and then follow the full instructions of the ROM you wanna use.

[Q] USB/Blackrose Bad Combo Help

Hiya!
Been on the forums for years modding my Nexus One and would like to thank everyone for their humongous contribution! 3 years of constant upgrading and improving of what turned out to be the best phone ever!
Now, I've come to an end where my self-confidence took over caution and preparation and i think i've made a boo-boo.
Long story short, i have a unlocked Nexus One that has been running a CM10 ROM with Blackrose for a good 6 months. Most of the functions were working fine, except for a few glitches, but last night i decided to go back to the roots, and install a stock Gingerbread ROM. I found a unrooted GB ROM, and went straight on to renaming it to PASSIMG, throwing it on card and rebooting. Now that's where the funny things started:
First, all goes well, click Volume Up, get it started, and than a screen with all OKs except for [7] BOOTLOADER - Fail-PU and a message saying 'Only Blackrose can be flashed'
Next, I get 7 OKs, except for BOOTLOADER, and the following: Partition update fail! Update fail! Do you want to reboot? Y/N
Figuring i forgot to uninstall Blackrose and need to do so, i let it restart, it comes up with a clean un-rooted GB ROM, and here's where my troubles start.
1. USB Connection: Plug it in, laptop doesn't recognize it at all. Classifies it as 'Unknown Device' and that's it. Tried fresh drivers, Universal Naked Drivers, SDK drivers, ASUS tablet drivers, nothing. Tried 3 cables, the HTC one, a Blackberry one and a Samsung one. Nothing. Uninstalled all USB hubs/devices, restarted the laptop multiple times. Debugging ON/OFF, no difference. I'm at a loss here, no clue what else to try!
2. Fine, i thought, let's flash a rooted rom! PASSIMG on the card, phone finds it, gets to the line 'Parsing... Passimg.zip' and goes back to the neutral screen. Tried it multiple times, different ROMs, nothing.
3. At this point, figured maybe an earlier ROM will cause an OTA update and fix things up. FROYO PASSIMG on the card, flashed 'succesfully', just like in #1, reboot to clean un-rooted FROYO. Checked USB connection, same again. OTA Update - constantly failed.
Been reading through Wikis and Q&A's here all day today, everything seems to be so easy to fix as long as you get a live ADB connection, and i know i could fix it, but i just can't get the laptop to recognize the bloody phone! Do not have access to another computer just now, so can't check whether it's just my Vaio.
So now, the questions:
1. Any other ideas on the USB issue? The phone does not display the usual 'choose your option/mass storage...' when connected, and nowhere in the menu is there an option for that.
2. When booting into recovery, i get the green droid with the white triangle and the !, and then get into the 3e recovery that has an 'update.zip' option. can i install a custom recovery without the phone being rooted? just of the sdcard? is there an update.zip that can re-stock my HBOOT?
any other ideas will be greatly appreciated, as of right now i am stuck with a FROYO handset that is perfectly capable of running JB, and it's really frustrating!
thanks in advance for all your help, cheers!

Boot Loop

I have had my HTC One M7 shortly after it was release. I got it from ATT. I immediately found a guide here and rooted it. I had TWRP and every time ATT tried to push an OTA I would refuse. I haven't bothered with it until a couple weeks ago when I wanted to put in KIT KAT. so I found m7_Stock_Rooted_4.18.502.7_odex.zip. I did a dirty upgrade, as the thread said it was okay. And it was. I am going on a trip so I purchased a sim unlock code in between upgrading to kitkat and today.
I got another OTA. I must not have read the bootloader correctly to refuse the install. I was no longer rooted. I come back to XDA and thought what the heck, I'll try out this ROM, it looks nice: Android_Revolution_HD-One_83.1.zip. I use TWRP to put the ROM in and now I am full of fail. After a little bit of Google I decided to try to do a factory reset. And now I am stuck in a boot loop. I have went back to Google but so far all I have seen is use adb or some other method to put things on the "sd card". But how would I do that when this phone doesn't have a sim card and I can't hook it up to my computer anymore? FWIW at some point in the boot loop my computer will recognize the phone, but it won't stay in that state long before it goes away. What happens is my phone starts too boot. Boot screen comes up. After about 10-15 seconds it restarts. This time saying entering recovery.... at the top. That lasts for about 2 seconds, phone goes black and reboots like normal. Over and over.
Best I can do is get to the android hard reset screen by holding power and reset screen. But that is saying "tampered" and "unlocked" at top. I chose the factory setting option and that doesn't do anything to alter the current state.
Edit:
When I went to flash Android Revolution ROM I chose wipe data. It gave some error that some files were not copied. So I ran it again, straight from TWRP. But that never installed right and I was stuck in a boot loop. I don't have many options with the android hard reset menu. But if choose restore, I will get to see the screen from TWRP flash for just a moment before it goes away and reboots.
Also I do see my phone when I have it plugged in the control panel (windows). Under devices and printers, it is listed as Android 1.0 under unspecified devices.

Thanks dude. I had an older version, since I originally rooted this phone around 18 months ago and used a version from back then. I watched a youtube video how to push TWRP onto a soft bricked device using ADB. After that, I was able to install the ROM.

Stuck on AT&T logo and cannot enter recovery mode

This is my first post, but I've had my phone rooted for a few months now with no problems until today out of the blue. What I've done to root my phone in the first place was flash to 4.4.2 NE3, root it, then upgrade to 5.0.1 OC 7 DeOdexed while keeping the root according to the link below. And then I put Xposed framework on it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active/general/how-to-update-to-i537oc6-5-0-1-t3089355
And this has worked well for me for a few months since that was back at the end of December. Flash forward to today when my phone was being rather slow to respond to my actions so I decided to restart it. And upon restarting it, it's been stuck on the AT&T logo screen for a very long time. I can power it down with the power button, but think it actually just restarts it because then it boot ups again on its own. I cannot enter recovery mode with power+home+volume up, but I can get to the custom OS screen with power+volume down. My computer cannot see it as an adb device either. I've also tried removing the SIM card and the SD card and it's still gets stuck at the AT&T logo.
I've done nothing different with the OS or Xposed recently. The only new thing was about 2 hours prior to restarting it, I connected it to my computer to transfer some video files to the sd card. While I had it connecting to the computer and looking at the files on it through the phone's My Apps, it was sluggish to respond to my actions. But after disconnecting it, it was fine. I don't know if this is related, but I haven't done anything else different with it. Is there anyway to get my phone to boot up correctly? Or am I going to have to reflash it all over again? Thank you for any help.
Edit: I can enter recovery mode and I tried wiping the cache. It still gets stuck at the AT&T logo screen. I should also note that it no longer shows the Samsung "custom" boot screen anymore like it used to after rooting, now it just has the default Samsung boot screen, so it would certainly seem like my OS has been corrupted.
