I just discovered a too-good-to-be-true (second hand ofc) offer on a Galaxy Nexus and I have a feeling it might be stolen (it comes without the box).
Is there any way for me to find out if it was stolen ?
I know there are a lot of apps that can track a device and I wanna make sure that they won't come after me if I buy it
Ask for the serial number or imei and call whatever provider the phone is linked with to verify if it was reported stolen or black listed. If it's linked to someone's account they will tell you...
I'm not sure what nation you're in, but if it's the US, you can call the police with the serial number and see if it's been reported stolen.
Hopefully you're just getting an awesome deal though!
In any case if you reset the phone any software for trace will be deleted.
The real problem is another, if the old owner remembers the imei code he can block the phone, but if it is so I think the phone now should be already lock.
Just tell the seller that you are going to check wherever its stolen or not as a precaution as you bought a stolen phone before. If he says go ahead, then still do it, but you are 99% all clear, if he legs it, well, you won't have to bother checking it

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. :/

Just as the title says, PLEASE HELP I ONLY HAVE 2 HOURS
My assumptions :
- Is the welcome screen can only show once you got it & we cannot see it again?
- When we open the case, it will leave traces ?
What do you know? How can I know that the Nexus 7 I want to buy is real? ( I want to buy it from another person, he said that he buy it from Lazada & want to sell it because he thought that it was 3g )
1 Thing to do is to check under settings, About and check all the software.
Chances are if its a fake device, it won't have standard software installed.
Check VERY Carefully, as fake software often mimicks the naming etc, but is slightly different.
Also, check all the outer body etc, to see if you can see any different things from what your used it, such as no logo etc?
Pop the back off like you said, check the internals to see if they match the Nexus 7 original.
Popping the back is fairly easy, and if done properly you wont be able to tell its been done.

Thx a lot man !
Can you show me more example on the mimics software here? Cause this is 4.1 Jellybean & I never had the experience with 4.1
Can you give me the list of things that I must check so that I can check it with the review on YouTube?
Go here - http://images.broadbandgenie.co.uk/fckImages/blogs/n7-root/Build Number.png
The easiest one to check would be the kernel/build number etc.
Under - Settings -> About -> Software Info

Seems to be a real one. By judging the kernel version, date and the FCC things. Also you can try to unlock its bootloader.
Edit what's lazada
Edit2: oops i mistook the replies. But you can try the suggestion i've said to you.

How did you do that man? Is there a trick to read it?
Lazada is online shop
Thx all, I already contact him that I will buy his N7
Or just check the serial number on the package. Simply ask Asus if this number is registered. If it is its real.

I don't think it'll have the serial number, being second hand.
Hense I described the alternate methods

Why would that have anything to do with not having a serial number? It comes on a tag on the device. If it is removed I would be suspicious that it is stolen.
That little sticker that's in the bottom? That was the first thing I took off when I opened it. I mean why would you put a SN on a sticker? That's no indicator if it were stolen.
Edit: I stick edit to the box, but yeah. If anyone else is like me and does not like superfluous stuck things in their devices, and they would have removed it too.

I had to re-read that a couple of times. So you're telling me, you haven't taken the sticker off your nexus 7, and that if someone tried to sell you one with the sticker on you'd think it was stolen?
NON of that makes sense, its hilarious !!
Its that dumb its genius.

He saying if someone tried to sell him one with the sticker off he would have thought it was stolen.

Second hand for a device like this is kinda shady to begin with. It being bogus is a risk you take regardless of anything considering its been used. serial numbers can be faked, especially stickers which can be taken off one and placed onto another. I left my sticker on just because....eventually it peeled off on its own so that shoots that idea down. You can very easily package a loaf of bread into a nexus box and until ya open it youll never know. best bet would be to make sure whatever service your using has an airtight return & buyer protection policy.
Honestly I don't think there are a lot of faked N7's(if any). It's not like you would buy beats headphones (cause there's a sh*t load of faked beats headphones).Faking tablets and phones is much "harder" and you would definitely figure out quickly if its faked or not mostly because they run outdated software.
Sorry for my bad english

Someone gets it. Yes, my sticker is still on my N7, primarily because there's no real reason to remove it and because it is in a case where the sticker is protected and not visible. I save the boxes that any of my gadgets come in until they are no longer under warranty. Sometimes even longer as resale is better on a device that is in the factory container. For a device this new I would be very wary of buying one used that the owner had disposed of the box and serial number sticker without much thought. At the least, it shows carelessness, at the worst, they could be trying to hide something.
OP seems suspicious to me.
cant quite tack it down, but something seems odd...
Google Gravity
A real N7 will bounce if you toss it on the ground real hard. Newer N7's have Google Gravity installed. Basically it has internal gyros and sensors that detect motion and reverse gravity in the event of a fall to prevent damage.
hahaha, I liked the last response better.
Hi everybody! My One has been in the service center for a week after getting hard bricked for no reason, and repair hasn't been started yet, and they're giving me an ETA of a week or two more So, if any of you is in any way related to HTC, could you pm me a number or an email ID, which isn't ignored, to talk or send a message to convince htc to get my phone repaired quick or give me a replacement? Talking/chat with any of the higher authorities, who actually care about customers would do.
Thanks
Hopefully I'll get them convinced

I bought my phone with a carrier that I'm no longer with so they aren't doing anything. I was forced to use HTC.
I guess it wasn't that bad since I had a backup.
And the ETA was given by the call center people , who don't know ***t about anything. The service center guys are saying that it may take two weeks or more because of shortage of parts. Why don't they replace the damn phone if they're gonna replace the most expensive parts anyways? Btw, my phone has a faulty mobo, camera, and speakers.

How do you have that many things wrong with the phone? They almost never replace the phone because (according to them) it changes the IMEI number of the phone. It does do that, but how the heck does it even matter? HTC support is useless IMO.

I don't bloody know. I took proper care of the phone, it was never out of a case and it never fell. And believe it or not, this is the third time I'm having a problem with this phone And if the mobo is changed, the IMEI is changed anyways, so what difference does it make? HTC support is always like "I'm sorry sir, but we can't do anything for you right now. Please check back in a week" it driving me crazy

Well, no. I got a new IMEI the last time my board was changed, and 3 months of data more from my carrier, so I'm pretty darn sure that at least here they don't

ihi im new here and i was wondering if some one can amswer me one question. can the person still report the phone stolen after i registered phone with at&t i just sign up today on post paid no contract plan?
I would yes depending on the circumstances. IF it was sold and payment was not received/revoked I could see it being possible. But if it was clean and there is proof of purchase/receipt of payment then no.
Best guess.

They should put numbers on your plate stickers like they do here so that if someone steals it then it won't match the plate numbers when the police pull them over.. It's an arrestable offense here to have a sticker on your plate that don't match your plate number.

My sticker numbers aren't the same as my plates numbers but if a cop was to run the numbers from my sticker it would come back with my plate numbers in the computer.. I'm not sure why they use different numbers for the stickers and plates.. It seems like it would be easier to tell if it's on the right car if they both matched but since they don't match here that just equals more work because now the cop actually has to look in the computer to see if it's on the right car or not.
