Using TWRP recovery with non-rooted phone?

Hi Guys,
My company uses Good For Enterprise for email, which requires a phone to not be rooted. Well I was using Xposed and Rootcloak to hide root, but it appears an update patched that exploit. So I flashed the SBF for 4.4.2 and have Good running. Well I wanted to be able to use TWRP to go back to my rooted backups, but once I push TWRP to my device, my STOCK unrooted fresh SBF'ed received a "SuperSU Installer" in my apps and also a persistent notification wanting me to install SuperSU through Google Play or TWRP. Good then failed the Root check and locked me out. So I thought I could push the stock recovery back and it would go away, but nope, no dice. Any ideas? FWIW I'm running a DE Moto X from Verizon, unlocked bootloader on 4.4.2 system and bootloader.

Seems you did everything right BUT when TWRP ask if you wanna install root or superuser.. forget which it says. Just say no. Then you should be root free. Hope that helps!

Thanks, but when I was in TWRP recovery it did ask me to root, and I said no; but it still had the "SuperSU Installer" in the app drawer, and couldn't be removed.

hmm, well if you say you came from stock, flashed TWRP and SU installed itself. than maybe just removing root would work. There's a guide for that, probably in the general thread. also, I read that there is a way to load multiple ROMs that's stickied in one of the threads. That could be exactly what you need!!
Don't remember which thread so you have to find it.

Is there a why to uunroot the att note 3 4.4.2 rooted with towelroot?

Im on the att note 3 4.4.2 ota rooted with towelroot. I have been searching everywhere but have come up with nothing. Can someone help me ?

Open SuperSU, click Settings, scroll down and click Full Unroot.
I don't know why you would want to unroot.

As far as I know all you have to do is download SuperSU from the playstore after your phone reboots from clicking "make it rain".
I personally have not used this method to root my phone because I was already rooted.
UPDATE : After watching videos online, it seems that SuperSU is not needed with this root method. Without SuperSU, there doesnt seem to be a method to unroot as of right now. I'm sure Chainfire (maker of SuperSU) has already heard about this and is working on a fix for SuperSU. He personally hasn't posted anything about it though.
UPDATE 2 : Apparently the latest SuperSU 1.99r5 fixes this issue. Problem is, that isn't the version on the Google Playstore.

The SuperSU from the Play Store will not work. You need to get version 1.99 and it will work fine.

I just private messaged you a download link for the SuperSU 1.99. Let me know if it works
All I did was extract the apk from the zip file and uploaded it to my dropbox. I tested it on my phone and it worked.
UPDATE : Chainfire just updated the apk listed on the playstore. So just go on there and download that version and you will be set.
Thank you guys I got it works great I how geo can get the bootloader unlocked next that would be amazing thanks again guys.:good:

What am I Doing Wrong Here?

Hello everyone! Last night I used Sunshine to unlock/s-off to root/unlock my phone. this morning i tried to install SuperSU, but got a message stating that the binary wasn't installed and SuperSU couldn't install it. I have done some searching on this, have tried to uninstall/reboot/reinstall SU, but each time I get the same error message. Iinstalled TWRP, but since I dont have super user access, it just closes, and because the binary isnt installed for SU, it just closes as well.
So, what I am trying to figure out is how to get superuser installed so twrp works, and i so i can on my merry flashing way. Any help you guys can give would be great!
Thanks

Actually nevermind.....i'm going to continuing reading through the phone book of replies on the supersu 2.13 thread. This can be closed for now.
You don't need root for a custom recovery on this device .
You unlock bootlooader 1st,custom recovery 2nd, install SuperSU.zip using custom recovery,3rd is cause you need superuser to gain S-OFF with Sunshine.

Not true...Sunshine does not require any of those.
When you run the apk from the website it ask for root permission. I'm S-OFF from using Sunshine

[Q] Root, S-on and installation questions

Hey all,
I have a HTC one M7, i had to recently send it off for repair due to battery and camera issues. It has now returned fixed... but updated.
It has S-ON and the latest hboot (1.66???) and from what i've read, is not possible to get S-off at this time unless paying for a service online.
I have rooted it using DEVunlock, flashed a custom recovery and ROM but im finding it soo very hard to do anything with 'root access' for example, game killer need root access and when granted, says "root privelege is needed" although superSU has granted it access, Amplify a battery app needs root and cannot obtain it even it has been granted and Xposed installer cannot install without manual recover (which seems to goto recovery and do nothing...)
From what i can understand, i do have root i think? but why can't i install any apps that require root? is it due to it being S-ON?
what can i do? really not sure what to search for and whats its called
bump

Download Root Checker from Play Store to check to see if you are properly rooted. If not, then re-install your custom recovery (TWRP includes root). What I generally do is install SuperSU right after I install TWRP.

You can have root access and S-ON at the same time. So, it is not S-ON. Update SuperSU and see if it does not fix the issue. If not, you might want to install Busybox you can get if from the Play Store as well.

Thank you for your replys!, the only reason i mention about S-ON is because ive been through this trouble before, i just cant remember what i did to fix it, i think it was due to it being a HTC my friend said, hence why i have a feeling it could be due to S-ON locking me out of certain parts of the phone.
I think i have the latest SuperSU v2.46, i installed busybox which also made no difference, still dont have access to lots of stuff...

If you have SuperSU installed and you can open it from the app drawer and the same with BusyBox then you have root. It might be the programs you are trying to run are not compatible with your phone or OS version. If that is the case then if you are S-ON or S-OFF it will not make a difference.

[SOLVED] Safe to continue?? or start again? please help

This is driving me nuts... I was on 5.1.1 and I am trying to get it rooted.
I'm following a guide which goes like this..
1. downgrade to kitkat 4.4 using flashtool
2. root 4.4
3. Install custom recovery
4. Flash 5.1.1 pre-rooted zip
I have had problem after problem and I think something may have screwed up along the way.
I finally managed to get kitkat installed using flashtool and a generic C6903 .108 ftf.
Problem 1... I used 'Easy Root tool' from xda to root kitkat... but it seemed to hang at the cleaning up' stage - is this a problem?
Problem 2... every time I restart my phone - kitkat asks what language etc. Whats that all about?
PROBLEM 3. The guide Im following says to install busybox after rooting kitkat.
I've tried 2 different busybox installers and both of them fail when trying to install bb.
QUESTION: Are these 3 problems linked and will it prevent me from continuing with the guide I am trying to follow??? i.e. do I need busybox to install XZ Dual Recovery and therefore a pre-rooted zip?
Root Checker basic says kitkat is rooted, as does the first busybox installer.
I'm taking a short break from this nightmare, so in the meentime if any of you chaps could advise me on whether or not its ok to continue or if I have fecked up the whole process, that would be great.
Thanks in advance
problem 1 : re run the installer again, don't use administrator mode
problem2 : use any simcard on your phone
others, sorry i have no idea, you could download busybox from playstore ?
I would just start over and try a different root program. busybox is failing to install because the root didn't work.

Cheers bud, I'll try 'easy root tool' once more without admin priv, if its the same story I'll start over and try a different root tool. Any suggestions on that?
Also: how come root checker says I'm all good and rooted but busybox wont install? even one of the busybox installers says "Your device is rooted"!?!?
Thanks for all the help mate
i think you don't have supersu installed, and busy box couldn't get root rights
so download supersu from playstore, open it and update binaries as normal, then reboot
and you would be able to install bb

Try the suggestion made by @Gamer4Life, just in case you somehow got root but it failed to install the APK needed to manage it. Might save you some work. That would explain why everything thinks you're rooted.
As for an alternative, if you still need it, I think I used kingroot successfully on 4.4.4.

Thanks mate. I was hoping Gamer4life might be right as there was no Supersu installed.
I installed supersu from play store no problem... but when I try to update binaries it says' update failed. Please reboot and try again.'. tried reboot but same story.
I guess I'll try 'easy root tool' again and then will give kingroot a bash if needbe.
One last pre-emptive question...
If I root kitkat using kingroot... should I replace kinguser with supersu before proceeding with XZDR and a pre-rooted zip or will kinguser be sufficient to continue.
Many thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to help me with this clusterf*ck,.. I appreciate it
can you screenshot the error you got ?
i reread your op, you don't need busybox to install dual recovery, it installs like the easy root installer, very easy
just one click and you are ready to go
also xzdualrecovery will root your device and install supersu by default if you have kitkat, so you can skip that.
edit (i don't think this will work because towelroot doesn't work on z1 4.4.4 108)

must have been a glitch in the matrix mate becuase its now working (Possibly thanks to your suggestion of installing Supersu?).
I reconnected to PC in order to give 'easy root tool' another crack at it.
As soon as I start install.bat It says checking if device is rooted AND I get a superuser request on my phone for adb.shell - Happy days!
I granted root access to adb shell and the root tool says Job Done. Root success etc.
So I disconnect and try to update su binaries and it worked first go!!!
*Touch wood* I think I'm now past the tricky part and it should be plain sailing from here on in. lol
THANKS for the help Gamer4Life, and everyone else who has chipped in.... hopefully my next post will be to report a fully rooted 5.1.1 :fingers-crossed:
