If anyone can help with this, I’d really appreciate it. I have been a little disappointed since plunging into Android that for whatever reason, the email app (not Gmail) doesn’t have a “move to folder” option. I’ve had this option on WinMo and Symbian phones so I found it hard to believe that functionality wasn’t in Android. FYI, I am currently running CM 6.1.1.
Well I bought my wife a Samsung Epic 4G for Christmas and lo and behold, the email app on her device has that option! Her phone is rooted and running the Epic Experience ROM. I have tried, to no avail, to put the email app from her phone onto my N1. I have the apk file, have tried to just install as is, have tried pushing via adb, even tried inserting it into the CM ROM zip file in place of the one that was in there. So far I’m not even close. So here are my questions:
Are there any ROMs for the N1 that have this function included?
If not, is it possible to install this in place of the email app in CM?
I’m rather fond of CM and would rather do the latter if it’s possible. I was able to get as far as getting the file signed, and the closest I got after that, I received the error:
INSTALL FAILED MISSING SHARED LIBRARY
With over 200 lib files in the Epic ROM, I have no idea which one(s) would be necessary to make this work. Both phones have Android 2.2.1.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
No help on this at all? C'mon folks, I know we've got some smart people in here that can make this work!
I'm new to all this Android stuff. Had Blackberrys forever. What exactly ist it to root the phone, how "dangerous" is it, and what exactly are the benefits to doing it?
I now have two Android devices, the LG Revolution, and a Dell Streak 7.
Thanks for your patience.

Rooting the phone gives you access to the protected areas of the phone. As far as how dangerous it is, that depends on the ability of the end user to carefully follow directions
The advantage is that you can customize your phone as you see fit. The manufacturers place certain software on your phone that may actually hinder you from using your phone to its full potential (i.e. Microsoft Bing, and Verizon Navigation).
Once you remove these additions, you can add the Google counterparts (for free) that make your phone far more functional, and eliminates the need to pay third parties (like Verizon for Navigation).
You can also install new images on to your system that does most of this work for you (meaning you don't have to be a developer to get rid of those services as someone else has done it for you). With some ROMs, it increases speed (overclocking), gives you functionality you didn't previously have (wireless tether - the free kind), and allows you to skin the parts of the interface that can't be skinned with a home app replacement.
Typically speaking, if you are using a stock home-screen, and the original firmware, you are getting the worst experience from your phone. Counting on developers, however, can have it's down side. Since they are working for you to get the perfect phone, but aren't perfect by nature, there can be bugs and flaws as they are in the development process. Most developers want to release a quality product, so they continue working on their product until it is as close to perfect as conceivably possible.
The trickiest part is getting your phone rooted and putting CWM recovery on it. If you can follow the directions to a 't' without skipping or ignoring portions of the instructions, you will usually be home-free to do whatever you want with your phone.

DUDE!!! you are in the exact same boat as me, and with the same devices! though i came from iphones.
I agree with majorpay. love the revolution and the streak7. i can never go back to ios now.
Ad Free! And console controllers!
Major, great explanation. I guess the thing I would add is the use of apps that remove ads. And something that kind of big right now is using a console Bluetooth controller, like the sixaxis (PS3) and wiimote apps. My wiimote syncs up perfectly with my rooted Droid 1. Gotta try the PS3 app. Neither worked on my stock LG Revolution.
As to what root exactly does...
"root" is the "Administrator" so to say in Linux and UNIX. You can do anything as root, and it technically (from a secure point) should never be used.
If you own root, you own everything. When you root your phone, you gain the ability to access the root user, which most providers do NOT want you do.
As majorpay said before, you have the ability to remove bloatware, and apps like Bing and Verizon apps which come pre-installed on the phone. This takes up space, uses memory, and you can't uninstall them. With root you have the ability to override Verizon's apps (per say) and delete them, then reinstall them with Google's non 3rd party apps which are free.
If anyone is familiar with "jailbreaking" it is the exact same thing, gaining access to the root user for the iPhone / iPod touch.
I have never used BB before, so I don't know if there is something similar to rooting...
TL;DR - It lets you do anything you want
I have used Chroma in the past with minimal issues, but prefer the pure stock over a rom - so my question is; is there any way to use the Chroma Rom Dialer on the stock 5.1.1? (since I know there's several telephony, dialer, phonesky apps/files) I am not sure how I would go about doing that, or what all I would need to change in order to pull it off - if this is even possible at all?
Reason for my question, I like that it has BUILT IN native call blocking ability that the stock dialer doesn't, other than THAT feature it's identical to the stock dialer. I don't care if it's the Chroma dialer, or another rom dialer, I just want the STOCK dialer (or stock-like) to have this ability.
I know there's 3rd party apps for this type of thing, and I've used many of them, but I very much so prefer NOT to have to use a 3rd party app for something that (IMO) should have been built in to begin with.
If you wish to know why this is important to me, read the spoiler:
So, I get ~3-6 calls every day that's just the same BS; Scam calls saying I can lower my CC interest rates and to press 1 to speak to a representative. They always call from a different number, so blocking them individually doesn't work since it's never the same twice (typically - you'll understand after reading below). If you DO press 1 you get a rude person who will cuss at you, call you names, or laugh at you if you ask to be removed from their calling list. Doing that will only make it worse. I've recorded dozens of calls where they say really effed up things to me. Beyond harassment, it's straight up abuse.
I have been getting them for years, I DO NOT own a credit card, never have owned one, and have never even applied for one - plus there's THOUSANDS of pages on Google about these type of calls being a major problem. Even the FCC has a $50,000 bounty for anyone who can legally or illegally stop them - no questions asked (how badass is that!?) - THAT should tell you how hard they are to catch, find, or stop.
After more than 2 years of filing formal complaints/reports with the FCC, Local PD, FBI (as told to by the FCC), USCC, and have seeked legal advice from my lawyer as to getting this stopped via getting a subpoena so uscc has to release the real call origin trace, I'm on the Do Not Call list... - I've been met with ONE solution that has been common on all counts; change my number. That's not really an option, I've had this number since 1997, I'm not about to change it for obvious reasons.
Now, I've tried many apps to get this stopped, ranging from free to paid, and have not found one that ACTUALLY works toward getting it stopped, many are difficult to use or require WAY too much effort and personal information in order to do anything but ask you to donate.
So far I have logged (through Google Voice VM) a growing total of 566 *different* numbers they have called me from - from all over the US and some that are unused anywhere on earth.
In conclusion, Ive logged 566 different numbers that have called me a total of 11,925 times since 2008.
If that isn't justification for this request, then IDK what is. Shy of ditching my phone altogether, I'm out of ideas.
Bumping - I'd really appreciate any help, gents.

Have no idea. If dialer would work would need boh contacts and dialer apk. Have no idea where the code for that mod is and if ASOP dialer will even work on stock. Then you have odex vs deodex to work through.
If it CANT work on stock (which, honestly, I didn't expect it to) given, as you said, the differences are small on the surface but in the actual build they're very different. I understand that, and those are things I considered leading me to wonder.
Can anyone MAKE the stock dialer with that mod added in, or a otherwise stock rom with that?
It seems like a lot to request, I know, but I've been looking for this for months, I've even set up a bounty in a thread on TUSCC, its something that I've really hoped would become a mod thru xposed or "Pure Shamu" rom with it. However, it seems that others don't experience this ridiculous problem, leading to it not being as popular as I wish it was.
Trying to stop an ex from calling is one thing, but trying to stop every call that isn't a contact, I realize that's quite another. Thus is my case, its crazy how many spoofed numbers they use. I'm more amazed that the carrier hasn't done something than I am that it's not a mod. There's tens of thousands of people with this problem and the one solution that requires no effort on the end user isn't available to cell phone users.
I don't know - I'm just at my wits end with these calls. I'd be happy to do it myself if a dev is willing to give me some direction, or ideas to try out.
As a side note, I've recorded several where I just screw with them for as long as I can - then put it on YT after they realize they've been trolled and blow up. It's a small, yet, satisfying "middle finger" I can do.

If I knew what the mod is it would be possible to port to stock. My guess it is in smali which cannot access on stock odex. Stock Would have to be deodexed to access smali which is also possible in rom form. Nobody I know of is deodexing stock 5.1.1 We have done it and got it working but don't post as we still don't know if everything works. Lollipop is still hard to make fully working rom from stock image. M is even going to be harder. Would still need the code required to enable the mod.

I concurr, your talking about taking apk's not meant for a certain rom and adding them in to pray it works. Did you look in the market t.o see if there was a KB you liked there? You can't just switch around apk's like that because you could easily get force closes. If you want to try just copy and paste it into a rom. you wont brick doing that, it may work
I know it isn't as easy as swapping apks - I had *hoped* it would be similarly easy, but figured there was no way.
Idk what the mod is, or how Chroma did it - but the dialer looks stock other than the addition of that option under the advanced menu in the dialer settings.
I've looked in the market, used many of them, Mr. Number was my go to for a long time but it is iffy on 5.1 as *sometimes* a call will get through for a couple rings then gets blocked. It would also block known contacts on a rare occasion, I would go a couple days without knowing I had missed a call from a family member because it didn't show up in Mr. Number or the stock dialer - somehow it blocked it and had no record of the call even coming in.
That's why I was hoping to find a way to get this option in the stock dialer - without porting anything or swapping apks, that way it's a native feature to the dialer and I wouldn't have to depend on 3rd party apps to do it.
I've asked Google, but their solution was to add them to one contact and send the calls to VM - while that essentially works, that means I'd have to add all 500+ numbers to a single contact, and they OFTEN call from spoofed numbers I've never seen before - so that really doesn't solve anything.
Hi All,
It's been quite a few years since I last rerooted a phone - I've found I just didn't really need to with Nexus devices, but since the next Nexuses don't have wireless charging, I've decided to pick up a Note 5.
It's a good phone, I really like it so far, but there are enough things niggling me about it, I think I will root this time. If anyone can provide advice on any of the following list I'd really appreciate it!
1. I see Dr Ketan's thread on the matter (http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/how-to-root-note-5-t3205073) which seems doable, and as complex as I remember. Has anyone tried one-click rooting and can comment on reliability? I'm all for just getting easy root access... For reference I have the SM-N920I. I also see "tripping Knox" a lot, but I have no idea what the means. Last person I asked said "I can't say if that is a good or bad for your specific situation" which makes me think they didn't understand my question.
2. I don't like TouchWiz. It's OK, but I much prefer stock, or, what I'm doing at the moment: Action Launcher 3. I prefer the stock dialer, and the stock quick menu (when you pull-down notification bar). Can I flash a stock ROM onto the Note 5? I mean, not stock-like like the popular MODs (Cyanogen for example) but something that is practically stock? I may end up going with something like Cyanogen, but I'd just like to know what's out there along those lines.
3. Having said that I don't like TouchWiz, and might install a new ROM, there are many things I do like about this device's interface: The SPen's overlay/menu is handy. The fact it brings up a notepad-like app if you pop the SPen out when the screen is off, one-hand mode (note: I have found an XPosed Module for this), the fingerprint scanner, the camera app, the S Planner app, the Home button shortcuts (single click->home; double-click->camera; triple-click->one handed mode) ... all things I assume I'll lose if I flash away Touch Wiz. However, perhaps I can get some (or all) of these things back? If so ... how? e.g. It looks like one-handed mode could be acheived with an XPosed module, and the home-button shortcuts with a launcher (I think Action Launcher can over ride this...)
4. Always listening Google Now. At the moment I have fingerprint scanner lockscreen security, always listening S Voice, and Google Now "from any screen." It... kinda works. But I can't see any reason why Google Now shouldn't just be always listening, and using a Trusted Voice allow me to throw voice commands at my device at any time. At the moment only S Voice is always listening... and even if I have the screen on, trusted voice doesn't seem to be able to get through the fingerprint security anyway. Ironically if I ask S Voice to launch Google Voice Search... it ploughs through in that scenario. Ultimate goal: Have Google Now always listening, and use Trusted Voice to get past the lockscreen, which would typically be secured with a fingerprint scanner.
If you can answer, or provide feedback on any of these queries, it'd be much appreciated!

1. Rooting is easy on the 920I. Just follow the instructions. As for tripping Knox, Knox is a security system which you may or may not use. Many don't but some people and enterprises do. Knox is also required for Samsung Pay which is currently rolling out. As soon as you root Knox will be disabled and a flag will be tripped which cannot be reset - thus once you root, that is that. Whoever said that they don't know whether you use Knox was absolutely right. The most obvious case is that if you want to use Samsung Pay, don't root.
Two things: when you root, make sure you backup your EFS. Also have a look around for which kernel you are going to install. I use arter 7.0 at the moment.
2 and 3. Experiment with other launchers and see what you like. I don't like touchwiz but I do like the spen integration. Same for ROMs - have a good look around before you root to see what you like. I prefer Dr ketan L3 but it's all personal choice.
I had a Nexus 5 running an experimental build of LineageOS 15.1. I had it for nearly five years. I murdered the damned thing.
A couple of questions:
1. I cannot find the developer option to enable ADB over the network. Is there a way to enable this in the shell?
2. For the life of me I cannot find a way to change the notification sounds of different apps.
Overall this is pretty snappy. The screen is a huge upgrade from the Nexus and this is pretty close to vanilla Android (which I prefer). No surprise there since Motorola was owned by Google for about three years before selling it to Lenovo in 2014.
The Nexus rooted in about 20 seconds from a bash command line. This looks way more complicated. I might take the plunge when a LineageOS 15.1+ is available.
1. I don't know much about ADB over network, but I am aware that there are apps for this. If and when you decide to go through the root process, this is an option for you.
2. Apps normally choose their own, but a lot of various apps allow you to change this via the settings within the app. Gmail is an example. Apps with notification channels (or categories) can have their sound changed for each individual category in the app's notification settings. As far as I can tell, you can't do this with apps without notification channels.
