I lost my xperia z' s charger and so I brought a samsung note 2 original charger, since it is a 2000mA charger it can charge xz faster than its original cahrger ( xz can support 2 - 2.1 A charging current at max), and then due to loss of my usb cable along with the charger, I bought a 1.5 mts china cable. Ofcourse it do the charging, but its charging time is slower than what I get using a 1 mt high gauge nokia cable.
So this is what I learned, to get proper charging, we need to use original charger and a good quality high gauge usb cable too.
But since I wanted a lengthy cable of about 1.5-2 mts, I am going to buy a high gauge lengthy cable. Now here is my question;
Do anybody knows an app which realy works on xperia z which can detect the charging current properly?? I tried current widget, samsung charging current apps, and few others, all those apps shows some random numbers which changes randomly ( eg :- 300,206,540,750) , some does shows -ve values also, which totaly make no sense since I am plugged into a 2A charger!!
Thanks in advance.

Try Android Tuner app by 3c(available on playstore)
In app>>battery manager>>status shows the battery flow also the current capacity and a lot of other info
Also a negative value does makes sense...once your battery is fully charged the current flow is "cut-off" to prevent overcharging the battery and eventually damaging it.
If you feel that I've helped you in anyway, please hit the thank button

I already have that, think its not correct, coz I used a 2amp charger, ( note the charging current) this is why I asked. I think the stock kernel is not reporting it correctly???

I'm not sure of the voltage of the I9305 but the more volts = faster charging but hotter and hotter means a shorter life for the battery but it should be fine, I would trade it for faster charging. For amps, I have no clue and please correct me if I'm wrong anybody.

I'm pretty sure that you are saying the opposite way.
You can use more Amp but not more voltage.
More Amp - charges quickly.
More voltage - could blow your device.

AW: [Q] Charge with 5V/2A..?
In principle, the battery would load faster at higher charging current when the battery is capable of fast charging. If not, could reduce the battery life. I believe according to the charging control of Samsung, a current limiter is installed that can always draw only 1 amp. So it brings no benefit to using the charger of the tab. It may also be that the charging control of the current is limited so that is not loaded. The phone should not be harmed.

Should be fine for short term use.I've used half amp one amp and one and half amp car chargers wouldn't go any more than two amps no need to..may degrade battery a little so what there cheap enough to replace lol..easy peasy.. I live in tents an caravans 24/7 use leisure battery's not problem with amps just volts..bless solar panels..
The phone take what Amp it needs.. No more than its made for. 2A is only what the maximum out is for the charger.
You could make a charger with 50A, the phone still dont take more.
The volt is the value that need to be fixed though.
All phones charged via a usb needs 5V, no more, no less.(Usb =5V allways) Most batterys now days is something like 3.7V. Correct me if Im wrong.
Any way, you need a couple more volts in the charger than the battery to charge it.
Answere=Yes.. go ahead and charge.

I have had an HTC HD2 and used it's charger to charge my SGSII and now my SGSIII.
The time taken to charge with that is about the same as the SGSIII charger.
The charging circuits on the phone are smart enough to know that you are charging from a mains' adapter instead of an USB output from a computer and thus adapts the current draw from the system.
I previously did tests on the HD2 regardsing charging times and even with bigger supplies that the 1A one from HTC, it did not charge any quicker.

That charging circuit is made to cooperate with the battery and the rest of the phone.
So only difference you will notice is slower charge time if you are using a to weak charger that cant deliver the right amp.
As mentioned earlier you could use a 50A charger with out any faster charging time. Amps is allmoust of no interest if its not to weak.
Look at electricity as water. Amp is like how many liters of water a sertain pipe could deliver. Volts is more like how strong the flow is. To mouch pressure will destroy the flower. But with Amps you could pretend that the flower demands a certain amount of water and it will not suck more just becaus it could get more.

My sister got the GT-I9305 a little while back. Usually, she takes quite a few hours to charge it fully, about 7-8 hours. However, recently, it got worse. The phone has been sitting at 37% for over an hour now, and it is still stuck at 37%! I've searched for other threads on this issue but they didn't really solve my issue. It seems really weird that the battery hasn't even turned for the better(or the worse) after over an hour.
Anyone has any insight on this? Thanks a bunch!
P.S. Everything was off except for Power Saving mode and the mobile signal.
use a different charger, cable, port
i own that phone and i have to say that the charger is very weak 1000mAh charger for 2100mAh takes a lot i currently use my nokia's charger it has1200mAh and that makes a huge difference,my friend's uses nokia lumia's or of you have a recent computer you might have a supercharging port that provides much more power,
Hi everbody.
I use 2 different chargers, one from my tablet BQ Maxell Plus, other from another cellular...
NEVER had issues charging my I9300, with stock rom or other one....very fast and until 100%.
NEVER used the original one, but looking at it, is a joke of charger.....
Values: All debitate 5V, and 0.1 and 0.2 Amperes.
You must take in consideration other factors like electronic heat dissipation, filtrate, stabilitie, etc,etc with it seens not works well with the original one....
Who says that bigger ins`t better?:good:

you guys are using capacity units on a charger. Chargers don't have any capacity, they have current, which is measured in amps, not amp/hours. So S3 charger would be a 1000mA or 1A, not 1000mAh

how can that have an effect on the charging current?
On some cyanogenmod 10.1nigthlies versions it has problem with charging takes forever with oem charger, i am now on sentinel rom 4.6 it has same problem. Just use usb port from computer or some media player. It charge to full in maybe 5 hours from usb port, i dont remember excatly.
I agree the S3 Lte does not have the same speed in charging as the 9300 I use to own even though the chargers are the same, even different roms don't solve the issue, need a custom kernel to up the charging current that was available with the i9300 to reduce charging times

it's factory.. there is no fix for that .. in the manual says that you better don't use the headset while charging .. it consumes more power than the coming..
I think that it's protect for li-ion battery in xperia Z.

What charger are you using? If the 1500 mah wall charger that came with it, then it should charge just fine.
If some other charger thats rated lower, then you'll end up using more power.
When I got my GPS working and screen set to 100%, my phone uses 800-900mah or so. My 760mah car charger is hardly able to keep up with it.

The 'out the box' charger will charge the phone in its sleep state pretty quickly, however if you start using it (which isn't recommended might I add) you'll use more juice than the charger supplies pretty easily. Things like gaming or music will drain the battery quicker than it charges.
So try this...
Turn your screen brightness right the way down
Avoid gaming or music, or play music through a BT speaker/headphones
Turn off your internet connections
and finally....buy a better charger
Hello i have been a very long time user of xda on all my android phones, in the past i have had this odd problem with my galaxy s2 it would do the mysterious "charging but not charging problem" basically i would leave the phone in charge at like 45% and come back an hour later only to find out the logo says its charging but it actually dropped to 24% which was strange at the end after months of changing the cables it ended up happening only "some times" later on i figured lets just change that usb power adapter and what do you know problem solved. But here is my new problem i just recently got an xperia z1 which i have a lot of usb cables for i started using the original cable and it charged as normal, then i was using my cheap cables and i noticed instead of the problem the galaxy gave me this one gave me a new problem where it would be at 61% when i leave it and 20 minutes later i come and its at 62% i put the original cable back and it worked like normal again so i guessed this is a similar problem like the galaxy except with the cable instead. Now 2 months later i am still using the original cable and i have this different problem it would go from 50% to 80% in 40 minutes and then be stuck like that for an hour an then move along like normal. I dont know what the problem is now because this is original cable and original power adapter. Any ideas?
I know that Xperia S had that, some kind of protection for overcharging.
It would stay at 88% most of the time, because first time it charge to 100 and then stop to charge and let battery drain some power. So maybe z1 have some similar stuff, but I didn't recognize that on mine. For me he stop around 96% mostly.

You may have a bad reception and live in a hot place.
If your reception is bad then the phone draws tons of power. Quick fix: flight mode.
If your device is really hot when charging then the charging current is limited in order not to damage the phone. Try charging it in a cool place.
If this won't help either then buy a charger with 2A=2000mah output current.
Would always recommend using better cables to charge... Original Sony cable does +1500 ma charge and cheap cables does +300
That's your 20 minutes per % lol

I don't think that using genuine cable does any difference in Sony devices like it does in Samsung. Actually just using shorter, but thicker cable than genuine would improve charging speed.
i use a monitoring app
Battery Monitor Widget/Current Widget
Both can measure how much of +ma are being injected into the system
I've been examining these results for years with Android on HD2,EVO3D,SGS3,Z1
Cables make a difference whether they are
+300 (cheap cables)
+600 (car charger direct)
+300 to 1000 (car charger usb with 2amp)
+800 (original HTC cable)
+800 (orginal Western D cable for SATA ext disk)
+100 (cheap pink market side cable)
this greatly affects charging speed, and im 100% certain of this
your milage might vary depending on the cables you use, and the socket
i've just recently discovered a friends (Xiaomi cable) which does +1300 and it charges a hell of a fast
this also depends on whether you are using wall socket, powerbank, USB laptop, USB desktop but usually the bottleneck is on the cable
I'd like to let you know that the Z1 also limits the current based on the device temperature, just like it limits the cpu and GPU frequencies. If you don't belive me then open up logcat and get the device to warm up. You'll see the current limit going up. I think that it limits up to 500mAh current although it might not be the maximum cap. The best measurement of the current would be on a single hi amp charger in cold environment so the phone would be constantly cooled down.
Yes all devices also checks temperature and also, how many % remaining
Nearer to 100%, charging rates usually slow down

I don't think that ALL devices check the temperature and adjust it's processor speed and charging current. I really doubt it as the heat became a major issue somewhere around S800 chipset. There was no temperature control in xperia play at all.. If I were to speak about Sony then I guess that they implemented this somewhere around xperia s or later on the most powerful chipsets. I might be wrong, although I don't think I am.
I really doubt that the current changes depending on the current charge percentage, may I ask you for some kind of a proof? Regarding the charge and clocks I can give be you the proof without any issue, logcat proof, that's legit, but I've never seen any logcat about the charge percentage except for changing the image in the statusbar.
Can I discover what eating battety of my 2 week old Sony Xperia Z1 ?

Your phone is awake a lot of the time when the screen is off. Use an app like Better Battery Stats to find out what's causing the wakelocks. You can use Greenify to prevent apps from running in the background.
I also had problems with non Sony cable. Pluged in, handy is loading. 1 minute later it dont load. Best use original sony cable. With this i dont have problems.
Hey Peeps
Anyone else getting slow charging on SM-T810?
Using the bundled charger, I am getting average of only 680mA .... Definitely nothing over 950mA and that is even when screen is off...
Using the same charger and cable on my sony xperia Z3 easily achieve 1400mA ...
Same sort of numbers with other chargers etc... So pretty sure it is device not charger...

I just tested and am getting around 1500 mA. That is with my nexus 6 charger.
Bundled charger gives me around 1460 mA.
Are you certain it`s not the app that is wrong as the S2 is new and the app might not have been updated yet, Try the Samsung charging app below, you have to keep pressing the refresh button on the free version.

The charging rate can be anything from 300mAh to the maximum the power adapter can output, the tablet will determine the amount of power it will accept, and will jump from fast to slow charge depending on how much more power is needed until it reach 100%.
Thanks guys - obviously does not seen to be wide issue.
I tried the Samsung app above ... Sort of showed similar values ....
I did a charge from 69% to full and it took about 1.5 hours... So would be maybe 5 hours to charge fully?? Unless the device does much quicker charging at very low battery??
I will do a full discharge down to say 5% and then charge from there and see how I go.
Thanks again

Normally it will trickle charge slow once it reach approximate 80%, and is normally fast if the unit is almost power empty.
It's annoying. I've tried both ipad chargers and a 2.4A charger, but it will go to slow charging mode with anything else than the bundled charger.

Yeah i have found exactly the same!! Must be some sort of Samsung handshake protocol...
There is another thread on this that I have mentions about this, just use a good quality charger, or just go for a Qualcomm QC 2.0 charger from any known brand like htc, aukey, xpower, lots to name, just searh Qualcomm site for a full list.
It won't used the QC2.0, but all should work just like the OEM Samsung one
the ipad charger should be pretty high quality though, so I don't get why it's being so picky.

If you also followed the tab S thread, it's also been mentioned, Samsung tabs S are also picky, and yes all apple stuff don't work.
Should I rephrase it and say some good quality charger will work, even branded ones like sony may not even work, but my intital testing, most QC 2.0 charger will work.
The issue is that I'm trying to find one charger that will charge both my tab s2 and my iphone 6+ quickly. Any idea how qc chargers fare with iphones? The bundled tab s2 charger only gave my iphone 0.4A (it charges the tablet at 1.5A)

Odd, my old Nexus 7 2012 charger fast-charges my S2 710 without any issue at all. I had it spare as the N7 died on me (the S2 is its replacement) and was initially wondering myself as I had a few supposedly 2A chargers at home which only slow-charged the S2 (or indeed under Android 5.0.2 said it wasn't charging at all, even though it evidently was, but 5.1.1 has fixed that).
That said this is a charger without fixed cable (but with a decent USB cable) and I know from Raspberry Pi experience that the cable is almost as important as the charger for getting decent charging (ie enough current) to the device on the far end.
I would make sure the USB cable is a decent one intended for charging.
Proper charging USB cables have the shield connected at both ends for use as ground which is why they are notably thicker.

I agree, a good quality cable is required, as well as the charger itself, I'm using a magnetic cable and a reversible micro USB cable with a OEM Samsung, Aukey and Xpower charger, I don't get the speed of the QC 2.0, but it isn't suppose to as the S2 is not QC 2.0 compatible, but it does charge pretty quick, it also charges my ipod 4, and my nw-ZX2 work without any problems.
I get the "slow charging" message when using the Galaxy Tab S2 bundled charger.
If I use the charger from my Note 4 (Exynos) I get faster charging and no "slow" warning.
Did Samsung bundle it with the slow charger??
I can confirm that samsung did in fact bundle the tab s2 WITHOUT a quick charge usb charger.
I also thought the tab s2 didnt come with quick charge. I have extremely slow charge times but my battery lasts for DAYS... I can fully charge it, put it in airplane mode and check on it after 2 days and be at 98-99% battery.
I also use the quick charge cable AND the quick charge usb adapter that came with my note 5 and the tab still slow charges..
Here the same problem use Samsung charger and cable charge from 20% to 100% in 6 hrs and when use HUAWEI cable with Samsung charger It charged in 2 hrs
I guess Samsung have poor quality cable *-*
