I ordered my Moto X on Saturday through moto maker. Its a Verizon retail version. Any idea if 4.4 will come on it? If I don't have 4.4 is there anything I should do before accepting the update? My understanding is the the bootloader on the VZW Moto X retail version has not been unlocked by anyone yet. I am interested in obtaining an unlocked boot loader and root if possible if only for options down the road. I have been seeing tools like RockMyMoto or something on here...what are those all about. These options seem a lot different from what I am used to on my nexus, could really use a brief introduction to my new device. If I am missing a key topic, a link would be super cool.
Thanks!

i just received my verizon phone today and come with 4.2 so you can still using rockmymoto in case that you want to root
It's supposed to be on the path to 4.4 however I wouldn't expect it until early next year but I might be wrong but that's when vzw releases big updates it seems.

Just got mine today. 4.4 was not installed but it started the download on its own. I didn't realize it until it had already downloaded.

title says it all. just wondering if anyone has seen new/rumors of android 4.3 coming for our moto x soon. i seen an article that said it would be sooner than later but that was the only thing i could find.
was wondering the same thing. with the N5 coming out soon though i'm wondering if they are looking to skip to kitkat
The only thing I can think of in 4.3 that would benefit users is TRIM support, but the Moto X already has that: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7235/moto-x-review/9
On other Moto devices we had an app that would check Moto dev servers for leaked builds. The Atrix got unlocked that way. Can't we try that on this device?

4.3 libs are much much better than 4.2 but they are probably just skipping to kitkat

I doubt they're skipping 4.3. There was a 4.3 leak.

Anyone seeing anything for VZW?
So I just got this phone yesterday and I love it so far... My only question or concern is will it still get the updates as quick as the nexus... I noticed it was still on 4.2.2 and my Nexus tablet is on 4.3... That was my main selling point to buy the phone...

Not as quick as a Nexus. No phones or tablets get updates as quick as the Nexus line.
If that was the main selling point for you, I suggest you return it and wait for the Nexus 5.

Many people believe, since Google owns Motorola, that Motorola phone will get updates faster... Google has already stated that this is not true, they get no preferential treatment in regards to updates.
That being said, due to the limited bastardization of android on the moto x, it is fair to believe that this device has the potential to get updates quicker, whether that will play out as such, will be better known in the future.
But, the quick answer to your question is"no" this will not get updates as fast as a nexus device... Its not a nexus device. But it is understandable to believe that we will get updates more quickly than most other manufacturers devices on the market.

I will be happy if we hey an update in a reasonable amount of time... I guess that's a matter of opinion on what's a reasonable amount of time... I just traded in my HTC One XL for this phone so as long as I would get the updates faster than I did on that phone I will be happy... Also I was hoping to get support for this device for a longer period of time and keep receiving the updates... I just figured since it does not have a heavy ui like sense or touch wiz I would get updates quicker and supported longer... But I'm happy with the phone so I think I'm just going to keep it...

This is the first phone I've had that I don't want to root... I actually want the ability to get the ota updates, seems like Motorola is actively listening to consumers and pushing updates... I don't want to miss out on what they have coming. Plus, this phone is simply amazing, just the way it is.

Which versions?

I have the option to give a family member my GS4(I got the Nexus 4, because even CM doesn't run that great on the S4, let alone Touchwiz) for their upgrade, and the only phone I would want that's out on AT&T is the Moto X. I've got a few questions about the device.
How hard is rooting the AT&T moto X?
Can the annoying AT&T logo at the top be changed, through something like Xposed?
Is it possible to rub off the AT&T logo on the back without damaging it?
Did moto bake in battery percentage in the notification bar?
I understand that AT&T's contacts crap in infused with the stock contacts app( maybe, I remember hearing that somewhere, I could be wrong). If I remember right and it's there, can it be deactivated/deleted through titanium or something similar after root?
Would it be a better idea to just get the unlocked version through MotoMaker?
What's the advantage of getting the Moto X over the Nexus 5?(I'm gonna buy the N5 regardless at some point, just wanting some opinions on that.)
Thanks in advance.

Same here, execpt I didn't check for update via Moto Device Manager.
On a side note.. the system version is in the 160's, where as 4.4.2 on the G's is in the 170's.. so is this "older" than the G 4.4.2 roms?

Not part of any feedback network as far as I know. It came with 4.2.2 then updated to 4.4 and said a software update was ready for install so I said ok without thinking about it. I tried installing app ops and it kept force closing on me which I found to be odd. Then I remembered 4.4.2 broke app ops and I checked my android version...voila
I'm not getting any update prompt.

Wow interesting. It had to have been a glitch. Punit did say he couldn't wait for this week. So it's entirely possible 4.4.2 is coming out this week. I am part of the mfn but haven't gotten any invite. It's possible after the lady debacle with the people on the mfn not being able to keep their mouths shut moto didn't do the mfn this time.

When, I cannot say for sure. Likely very soon. As to why, this gizmodo article gives an excellent explaination:

it depends. The updates for the X seem to be rotating as to which carrier gets it first. The one Update, Verizon was first. Another Sprint was first. This one T-Mobile/GSM Unlocked is first.
But there is no "set amount of time"
Since they sell these phone for free with contact... We might not ever get an update from att...
