I have the option to give a family member my GS4(I got the Nexus 4, because even CM doesn't run that great on the S4, let alone Touchwiz) for their upgrade, and the only phone I would want that's out on AT&T is the Moto X. I've got a few questions about the device.
How hard is rooting the AT&T moto X?
Can the annoying AT&T logo at the top be changed, through something like Xposed?
Is it possible to rub off the AT&T logo on the back without damaging it?
Did moto bake in battery percentage in the notification bar?
I understand that AT&T's contacts crap in infused with the stock contacts app( maybe, I remember hearing that somewhere, I could be wrong). If I remember right and it's there, can it be deactivated/deleted through titanium or something similar after root?
Would it be a better idea to just get the unlocked version through MotoMaker?
What's the advantage of getting the Moto X over the Nexus 5?(I'm gonna buy the N5 regardless at some point, just wanting some opinions on that.)
Thanks in advance.

I ordered my Moto X on Saturday through moto maker. Its a Verizon retail version. Any idea if 4.4 will come on it? If I don't have 4.4 is there anything I should do before accepting the update? My understanding is the the bootloader on the VZW Moto X retail version has not been unlocked by anyone yet. I am interested in obtaining an unlocked boot loader and root if possible if only for options down the road. I have been seeing tools like RockMyMoto or something on here...what are those all about. These options seem a lot different from what I am used to on my nexus, could really use a brief introduction to my new device. If I am missing a key topic, a link would be super cool.
Thanks!

i just received my verizon phone today and come with 4.2 so you can still using rockmymoto in case that you want to root
It's supposed to be on the path to 4.4 however I wouldn't expect it until early next year but I might be wrong but that's when vzw releases big updates it seems.

Just got mine today. 4.4 was not installed but it started the download on its own. I didn't realize it until it had already downloaded.

Someone has been living under a rock
Verizon released it earlier this week, and tmobile released it today.
I have the $150 promo code and am thinking of getting a MOTO X as a secondary phone. However, am I under the impression the DEV community is not jumping all over this phone based on the amount of threads/posts?
I also own a Nexus 5 which of course has tons of ongoing developmen but it has its quirks and issues, despite its low price point now being matched by MOTO X.
I would hate to buy the MOTO X as I notice very little development going on for a phone which has now been out for @ 3 months. I don't want VZW as I already have a primary VZW Dev Edition Galaxy S4 (whose development is now starting to thin thanks to Sammie locking it up for those not owning a dev edition).
Was thinking the GSM unlocked version was the way to go since I have a Straight Talk SIM.
Now that the MOTO X is more affordable with perhaps more owners, will dev pick up? Comments?
Custom roms that are cm based lose the Motorola fun stuff like active notification and touch less control. Also, most are finding you can customize almost anything cm like with xposed. Also we can't make custom kernels yet.... So there is not much need or demand for custom roms.

Thanks for the info! Not really a CM guy..more AOSP. But I do like exposed framework when needed. So it sounds like this phone is worth it right out of the box, i.e., fun factor. I would probably appreciate the option of not spending hours flashing, etc like I do on my N5/GS4.
I have a couple nandroid backups.... And mess around with xposed. Can do a lot with it. If there were a bunch of roms, I don't think I'd be flashing them anyway. Don't see the need. I think that's a common feeling.... So demand is very low for them.

down the road when we stop getting official Android updates.... That's when the custom roms will come in handy.

Devs will fix things, but right now, there's not much to fix, software-wise. If Motorola/Verizon stop updating the phone (I guess we don't have 4.2.2 yet, but sounds like it will be coming soon), then maybe it will pick up. I have the Vz Dev so I unlocked the bootloader (because it wipes everything on the phone, so I wanted to get that out of the way) and if I didn't need AdAway, WiFi tethering, and TiBu (I was shocked how many apps the non-root backup apps such as Helium can't do), I'd still be unrooted.
The stock android is great. Motorola just added a couple of useful apps the rest is AOSP. Xposed works great. This phone is a daily driver not a secondary phone trust me you won't regret it Android at its best.
Bit the bullet.. Ordered it and in process. Airjacket case was 50% off as well and I got $10 Google play credit and another 50gb of Google drive storage.

That is the code i used... you enter the code and it deducts the discounts for phone and accessories and upon process of the order and confirmation'a splash page appears with the Google credit and drive offer... Keep your eyes open as I almost missed it and closed the web page. you also get a confirmation email.

II have some weird issues.. i tried factory restoring and it doesnt help.. the radio switches from LTE to 3G and i get weird issues during the transition and im not even able to disable LTE (that i know of) so I can just keep a steady 3g connection. Plus I get an error trying to send text via hangouts on LTE ONLY, and for some odd reason i cant upload photos on facebook. I have a feeling that the verizon stock rom deosnt work well with tmobile network. Im not rooted or anything just plain stock. Is there any rom or flashing I can do to basically transform my verizon moto x to work like a real tmobile phone? or some similar procedure to make things work more fluent?
If i cant do anything like this, ill probably just sign up for verizon prepaid but id like to stay with tmobile if possible.. thanks!

I was just curious if anyone out there has Rooted their T-mo or Other carrier G Flex. I love aspects of Rooted devices (Vibrant, Sensation, Galaxy 2,3 various other devices) however I have found that with a lot of the newer devices that are coming out, I haven't really felt the need to root. Are there any real advantages to rooting my G Flex, or if Im happy with it should I just leave it be?
More specifically however, has anyone used the VROOT method?
Not yet I'm really happy with it I feel like I don't want to **** anything up

Well on the ATT model there is a ton of bloat as well as Carrier IQ. So yeah I rooted and am happy now.
TMO here and I've rooted for AdAway and Root Explorer. Think I'm going to wait for a solid recovery to be released before I do much more.

Not yet, I guess given that the phone was just recently released I want to wait until there is (or isn't) significant developer support for this phone. If not, then I won't do any modifications with it and dump it in 6 months and use a JUMP from Tmo.
Since I rooted, is my Jump nullified meaning I can't use it now?
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
Tmobile does NOT care if your phone is rooted when you go to use a Jump..
I have the T-Mobile flex and i rooted with ioroot. So that i can use xposed +gravity for pie and expanded
desktop view. Works flawlesssly!!!!!
I'll probably root once there is a working TWRP recovery..until then, I can wait, cause this phone is so sweet is so many ways right out of the box..
I have Tmobile flex. I rooted to get rid of bloat and so I can use titanium backups. I have to say, there are some similarities between LG UI and touchwiz but I think LG has this a little better organized. Haven't played with exposed on here yet but I will.
Sent. Edited. Sent again. Deleted, and rewritten. Sent again.
Bought the G Flex release day and rooted that same night! Got rid if the bloat with TiB and now messing with some of the xposed modules. Best. Choice. Ever.

Are there any sprint user that rooted there phones and could maybe list the bloatware apps that they had removed? Im thinking of rooting my phone so i can uninstall couple of bloatware there but since im new to LG im not sure which apps are safe to uninstall besides the sprint crap any help would be appreciated thanks.

I used ioroot..manual method. Did you have trouble with that one?
I haven't rooted yet; just got this thing on Thursday, and want to make sure I am keeping it before I do.
Plus, I might wait a bit and see if by some miracle, kitkat gets pushed out for this guy, in the next week or 2,and I dont want to have to unroot it, in order to get that.
I know the chances aren't good for that, but, I like to learn about a new phone for a week or 2, then decide what I want to do with it, so I am not in a big hurry to root; there is no custom recovery yet, and of course, no roms, so I can be patient.
Thanks everyone for the insight, seeing as this thread has brought more to the table than just tmo answers and users I'll leave it be. I have, with some regret, opted to swap my phone for a Note 3. I had an issue where I would get temporary screen burns (lasting no more than a few seconds). Seeing as these are high end devices, I expected better from lg. The screen burn a side, the flex really is a great phone.

And to that I must say, Welcome to Android from AT&T where we lock BL's for no reason and take away features that many would call useful. Don't hold your breath. Even if root is by some miracle achieved don't expect any roms because it more than like just won't happen.

Crap. Add ATT from the start with Android and all my devices I have rooted with custom roms. Guess they have these Samsung ones really locked down?
It's not just Samsung, I think the LG G3 and Moto X may have a locked BL as well. I know HTC M8/9 doesn't.

Wrong. HTC phones come locked boot loaders just like the rest. The difference is that HTC provides a tool so you can unlock. IMO all manufacturerers should do this but I don't think any will until HTC starts taking a lot more of their business and that's obviously not going to happen this year with the M9 being such a evolutionary upgrade and all other companies going all out trying to make the best phone ever made.
Just my .02

Sorry, about saying HTC phones didn't have a locked BL. I forgot since I haven't had one in a while and you are right, they allow you to unlock via a tool you get from their website.
