I was just curious if anyone out there has Rooted their T-mo or Other carrier G Flex. I love aspects of Rooted devices (Vibrant, Sensation, Galaxy 2,3 various other devices) however I have found that with a lot of the newer devices that are coming out, I haven't really felt the need to root. Are there any real advantages to rooting my G Flex, or if Im happy with it should I just leave it be?
More specifically however, has anyone used the VROOT method?
Not yet I'm really happy with it I feel like I don't want to **** anything up

Well on the ATT model there is a ton of bloat as well as Carrier IQ. So yeah I rooted and am happy now.
TMO here and I've rooted for AdAway and Root Explorer. Think I'm going to wait for a solid recovery to be released before I do much more.

Not yet, I guess given that the phone was just recently released I want to wait until there is (or isn't) significant developer support for this phone. If not, then I won't do any modifications with it and dump it in 6 months and use a JUMP from Tmo.
Since I rooted, is my Jump nullified meaning I can't use it now?
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
Tmobile does NOT care if your phone is rooted when you go to use a Jump..
I have the T-Mobile flex and i rooted with ioroot. So that i can use xposed +gravity for pie and expanded
desktop view. Works flawlesssly!!!!!
I'll probably root once there is a working TWRP recovery..until then, I can wait, cause this phone is so sweet is so many ways right out of the box..
I have Tmobile flex. I rooted to get rid of bloat and so I can use titanium backups. I have to say, there are some similarities between LG UI and touchwiz but I think LG has this a little better organized. Haven't played with exposed on here yet but I will.
Sent. Edited. Sent again. Deleted, and rewritten. Sent again.
Bought the G Flex release day and rooted that same night! Got rid if the bloat with TiB and now messing with some of the xposed modules. Best. Choice. Ever.

Im thinking of rooting my phone so i can uninstall couple of bloatware there but since im new to LG im not sure which apps are safe to uninstall besides the sprint crap any help would be appreciated thanks.

I used ioroot..manual method. Did you have trouble with that one?
I haven't rooted yet; just got this thing on Thursday, and want to make sure I am keeping it before I do.
Plus, I might wait a bit and see if by some miracle, kitkat gets pushed out for this guy, in the next week or 2,and I dont want to have to unroot it, in order to get that.
I know the chances aren't good for that, but, I like to learn about a new phone for a week or 2, then decide what I want to do with it, so I am not in a big hurry to root; there is no custom recovery yet, and of course, no roms, so I can be patient.
Thanks everyone for the insight, seeing as this thread has brought more to the table than just tmo answers and users I'll leave it be. I have, with some regret, opted to swap my phone for a Note 3. I had an issue where I would get temporary screen burns (lasting no more than a few seconds). Seeing as these are high end devices, I expected better from lg. The screen burn a side, the flex really is a great phone.

I did the same, but it is FAR too early to expect anything.Since it has a locked bootloader, it'll probably take a while (similar to previous versions of the atrix) and I'm sure once Moto releases their webkit to unlock the bootloader the floodgates will open, but hopefully someone will step up and prove me wrong
I tried all the obvious root methods with no luck. There is no similar phone to the AHD yet, so nobody's attempted root on similar hardware.

Has anyone tried the root method for RAZR ICS / Droid4 ICS?

Once you guys get this, I really hope someone can pull that clock/weather/battery widget. I want it really bad. I also hope it doesn't rely on the framework of the phone

Hmm, it's a snapdragon S4 processor... What other phones have the same processor in there? You might be able to find some leads on that...
I was initially interested in getting my hands on the radio, but I think it's a completely different architecture than most of the other Motorola phones (most of the ones I know are TI OMAP), so you might need something different...

Atrix 2 still has a locked bootloader. It's been rooted, I've even had CWM work on boot. The only thing we were not able to do was get a kernel so we could get radios working under ICS.
There is hardly any extra effort when I want more access over my file system.

I'm just interested in why we haven't got root like most other phones. I mean, the HTC One X hasn't been out long before they had a toolkit out for it.
I think they even had root for the Droid 4 the day before it was released. SGS3 came out and people are already making JB ports.
Now the Atrix HD comes around and poof... nothing? If I had been more technically inclined, or knew where to start, I would have made a root method myself.
It shouldnt be so hard, whats stopping us? (besides a few people just waiting for the web kit)
...and if no one else is up to it, where do I start?

Not really.
If you go check the other thread we've tried over 7 methods.
Motorola patch the /system/, /data/local/, and all the system blocks.
We can push files into /data/tmp/ but we cant write to mmcblk0p36 with debugfs
It simply wont give us permission.
With an unlocked bootloader, yes for sure we can get root. At that point it'd be less of a concern to get root because we'd be able to do so much more.
I even tried zergRush exploit used by most Snapdragon S4 phones with no luck.
Again we ran into problems with permissions to write or mount /system/
chmod wont do anything either.

I'd wait another month or so before you jump ship. There's a pretty hefty bounty out there for root and bootloader workaround/unlock, so hopefully some devs will take notice soon. I simply love my N3. I played around with the new S5, and honestly, i'll pick my N3 over the S5.
I've rooted every Samsung device since the original Vibrant when I was with T-Mobile. The N3 was my first phone I actually felt I didn't need to root. So, as the months rolled on, I never rooted. However, I was one of those who's N3 was stuck on 27% for he KK OTA update. I followed the many postings to update my phone, which required my to root. I forgot to un-root my phone before I updated to KK. Now, I have this STUPID su app installed as a system app, and I can't get it uninstalled. I heard ADB doesn't require our phones to be rooted. I wonder If I can use ADB on my N3 to delete this su system app?
Does anyone have any thoughts about using ADB?
Removing the su binary should be no problem. Shell, su and rm su. It's the superuser app you want to get rid of as far as I've read in a couple of posts. That requires removing SuperSU.apk or whichever superuser app you're using. Which you can probably do with adb (I'm not trying it on my phone for you though) if you remove the apk first. (Then, if anything goes wrong, like the phone reboots by itself, you can still su from a shell to rm su.)
(If rm or su don't make any sense to you, google man page rm or man page su.)
So this weekend at least, the G2 is showing up as free for 2 yr upgrades, and I have a spare upgrade on my account I can use. I currently have a bootloader locked Note 2, running safestrap recovery, using a custom TouchWiz ROM. (no AOSP unfortunately for safestrap on the n2 )
I am wondering what the G2 community thinks about upgrading to this phone from a Note 2. Camera wise the G2 looks far better. The screen and battery are only slightly smaller, so I don't feel that is an issue, but how is it, nuts and bolts wise? Signal, reliability, etc. I see some GPS issues which may be of concern, and I am slightly unsure of the bootloader issue. I would prefer to unlock, root, and install what I please, and I *think* what I found is that you can push an older, unlocked bootloader to the latest update? Is that correct?
Anything else you can tell me that may help?
Thanks in advance
I came from a BL unlocked N2 and personally I love my G2. I had no issues rooting or unlocking the BL and I was running 24A. I would hands down go with the G2 if you are looking to upgrade but if you could wait and spend 200 then I would go with the G3 that troops in 2 weeks. Just my opinion.

The Freedom Tool is to get a custom recovery in this bad boy. I know one can use autorec to get a recovery, but I've read good and bad about it. I used Freedom for the recovery and ioroot25 to root.
Here's what I understand about flashing: if you're already running 24A from the official ota, then root/recovery, you can flash away (as long as the ROM is based on 24A, some are not). If you root on a 12B or 11A (I think) then you have to go and flash another zip prior to a ROM to get the 24A baseband.
I haven't flashed a custom rom so don't know about how they run. 2 reasons:
1) I feel LG did a great job with stock and with xposed, can do almost anything that a custom offers.
2) There are instances of screens being jacked up after a flash. Read through the development section and there's a dedicated thread that reports the issue. I realize warranty will cover a replacement but I'm too lazy to deal with that hassle.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well I did order one, so ill give it a go. Ill definitely check into the screen issue as that is a bit concerning. As long as I have root and recovery I'll be good. Seems odd that flashing a ROM would have an effect on the screen but well see. Thanks for the info

Nothing posted in the DEV section yet because we don't have root, and as far as I know there hasn't been a VZW Dev edition released yet (and I'm doubting there will be with the production issues they've had getting the regular GS6E's out).
Trust me, we all (or mostly all?) want root, but we have to be patient - i'd be blown away if we got a root solution before the Note 4.

I came off a RAZR HD MAXX, and have always had Moto phones (this is my first non-moto phone), but I read in at least 2 places that root cannot be had on this phone because verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders. Now, Im not sure what the boot loader has to do with getting root, because with my Motos I always rooted before unlocking the BL (on the phones I had that UL the BL was an option), but it just doesnt sound right.
I dont think I want to use custom ROMs any longer, I just want to use root apps. Really hoping someone finds an exploit for it.

I believe it is for all kernels up to May 2015.
It has been tested on the S6, and should work for any phone with a vulnerable kernel.
It should result in a root tool similar to towelroot.

You havent been on my roms then .. Its a stripped down bare bone stock rom with slight tweaks/mods.. i did try theming before but with theme engine now its pointless to theme it now..
My rom is the Extreme Syndicate rom in the Verizon S5 thread.. will develop for the verizon gs6 edge when possible and most likely make some buids for att s6 edge as well
