So what is the hold up. Is it just the Verizon variant that is lacking root? I thought the other variants had root? Not one post in the development sections. Weird.

Nothing posted in the DEV section yet because we don't have root, and as far as I know there hasn't been a VZW Dev edition released yet (and I'm doubting there will be with the production issues they've had getting the regular GS6E's out).
Trust me, we all (or mostly all?) want root, but we have to be patient - i'd be blown away if we got a root solution before the Note 4.

What I thought of course. But there should at least be a post or two saying: hey, I'm so and so dev. Im working on root. Will post back in a few days when completed. Lol

When you root your device, the integrity gets breached, which is necessary for important and sensitive features like mobile payments. :good:

Well if those so called "caring" companies would give us customers a little bit more control of our phones to get rid of some of their crapware, etc., then I would be all for it but they keep the lock on too tight as far as I'm concerned.

i lold at this post.. you dont just have a new device come out and a dev say it will take him a few days... the note 4 has been out for many months now and is still not rooted.. if you want to know where devs are at check those threads because they are working on rooting that device currently..
there is i believe only one L exploit that would not help in gettimg root available right now so until more exploits are found we dont stand a chance with root

You don't read the right threads then.

I came off a RAZR HD MAXX, and have always had Moto phones (this is my first non-moto phone), but I read in at least 2 places that root cannot be had on this phone because verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders. Now, Im not sure what the boot loader has to do with getting root, because with my Motos I always rooted before unlocking the BL (on the phones I had that UL the BL was an option), but it just doesnt sound right.
I dont think I want to use custom ROMs any longer, I just want to use root apps. Really hoping someone finds an exploit for it.

I believe it is for all kernels up to May 2015.
It has been tested on the S6, and should work for any phone with a vulnerable kernel.
It should result in a root tool similar to towelroot.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bionic has an encrypted bootloader. Will there actually be a development community behind this phone?

I'm sort of waiting to see if the Droid Prime is vanilla or not. Maybe by then the Bionic will be cheaper and I can compare the two. I imagine the CM team will develop for this beast.

The bootloader is not unlocked. It is unlockable if the carriers allow it. And that is the question "if"

you say its locked & unlockable if the carrier allows it, but the HTC Thunderbolt's boot loader is unlocked, so shouldn't this one be as well? All I know is that there is a crap ton of software that I do not want and would like to remove in the future.
Again I apologize for my question but having 2 people saying 2 different things to someone new like me just confuses me.
Should I return it and get the tbolt so i can get some cm7 roms, or will this have them in the future and should i wait it out?

Moto's had a nasty habit of locking bootloaders, which prevents custom kernels from running.
HTC did for awhile, but got some sense and knocked it off. Samsung doesn't lock theirs.
Even if Verizon does permit unlocked bootloaders, Moto still has to implement it. And if they don't, well, we're out of luck until they either change their policy or someone figures out how to get around it.
HTC has publicly stated they are only unlocking bootloaders of phones starting with the Sensation and the EVO 3D and forward; this doesn't include the Thunderbolt.

I sure hope so! Can't wait and hope it develops as the Inc forum has
the unlocked bootloader is a deciding factor in me getting this phone, I have hopes that a developer can get it. God knows how long it'll take if they do actually approve the unlock for it to go through, could be 6-8 months.

I did the same, but it is FAR too early to expect anything.Since it has a locked bootloader, it'll probably take a while (similar to previous versions of the atrix) and I'm sure once Moto releases their webkit to unlock the bootloader the floodgates will open, but hopefully someone will step up and prove me wrong
I tried all the obvious root methods with no luck. There is no similar phone to the AHD yet, so nobody's attempted root on similar hardware.

Hmm, it's a snapdragon S4 processor... What other phones have the same processor in there? You might be able to find some leads on that...
I was initially interested in getting my hands on the radio, but I think it's a completely different architecture than most of the other Motorola phones (most of the ones I know are TI OMAP), so you might need something different...

Atrix 2 still has a locked bootloader. It's been rooted, I've even had CWM work on boot. The only thing we were not able to do was get a kernel so we could get radios working under ICS.
There is hardly any extra effort when I want more access over my file system.

I'm just interested in why we haven't got root like most other phones. I mean, the HTC One X hasn't been out long before they had a toolkit out for it.
I think they even had root for the Droid 4 the day before it was released. SGS3 came out and people are already making JB ports.
Now the Atrix HD comes around and poof... nothing? If I had been more technically inclined, or knew where to start, I would have made a root method myself.
It shouldnt be so hard, whats stopping us? (besides a few people just waiting for the web kit)
...and if no one else is up to it, where do I start?

Not really.
If you go check the other thread we've tried over 7 methods.
Motorola patch the /system/, /data/local/, and all the system blocks.
We can push files into /data/tmp/ but we cant write to mmcblk0p36 with debugfs
It simply wont give us permission.
With an unlocked bootloader, yes for sure we can get root. At that point it'd be less of a concern to get root because we'd be able to do so much more.
I even tried zergRush exploit used by most Snapdragon S4 phones with no luck.
Again we ran into problems with permissions to write or mount /system/
chmod wont do anything either.

Have you rooted YOUR Tmobile (or any) G Flex.?

I was just curious if anyone out there has Rooted their T-mo or Other carrier G Flex. I love aspects of Rooted devices (Vibrant, Sensation, Galaxy 2,3 various other devices) however I have found that with a lot of the newer devices that are coming out, I haven't really felt the need to root. Are there any real advantages to rooting my G Flex, or if Im happy with it should I just leave it be?
More specifically however, has anyone used the VROOT method?

Not yet, I guess given that the phone was just recently released I want to wait until there is (or isn't) significant developer support for this phone. If not, then I won't do any modifications with it and dump it in 6 months and use a JUMP from Tmo.
Since I rooted, is my Jump nullified meaning I can't use it now?

Tmobile does NOT care if your phone is rooted when you go to use a Jump..

I'll probably root once there is a working TWRP recovery..until then, I can wait, cause this phone is so sweet is so many ways right out of the box..
I have Tmobile flex. I rooted to get rid of bloat and so I can use titanium backups. I have to say, there are some similarities between LG UI and touchwiz but I think LG has this a little better organized. Haven't played with exposed on here yet but I will.

I haven't rooted yet; just got this thing on Thursday, and want to make sure I am keeping it before I do.
Plus, I might wait a bit and see if by some miracle, kitkat gets pushed out for this guy, in the next week or 2,and I dont want to have to unroot it, in order to get that.
I know the chances aren't good for that, but, I like to learn about a new phone for a week or 2, then decide what I want to do with it, so I am not in a big hurry to root; there is no custom recovery yet, and of course, no roms, so I can be patient.
Thanks everyone for the insight, seeing as this thread has brought more to the table than just tmo answers and users I'll leave it be. I have, with some regret, opted to swap my phone for a Note 3. I had an issue where I would get temporary screen burns (lasting no more than a few seconds). Seeing as these are high end devices, I expected better from lg. The screen burn a side, the flex really is a great phone.

With a phone this popular, I can't imagine the bootloader will never be unlocked. Either Samsung will do so, or someone will fix it.
Not to be a doubter, but considering the S4 is reaching a year and a half without its bootloader being cracked put a damper on this one. Not sure if it has been improved more. I do believe it is being worked on. I hope that if one gets cracked the other will shortly thereafter.

It is still yet to be accomplished on the S4 (I am aware a demonstration was made). It should theoretically work on the S5 as well since it is nearly identical to the S5 in internals. (Those who want to disagree, go ahead. It is just my opinion that they are nearly identical). The exploit was for the particular setup in Snapdragon devices if I recall correctly, which that setup is present in the AT&T S5.
While the devices listed are unpatched and devices like the S5 are patched, it is my opinion that one can always pull back a patch for a problem. We see it all the time with Root. I'm just not talented enough to know how to do that level of work.

Twrp

I just bought the s6 edge for Verizon and rooted with ping-pong. How can I get twrp on it to flash roms? And do you expect the ROM dev community to step up once more people get the phone? Or would you switch to another flagship?

Twrp will trip Knox. The only roms I know that won't brick the phone you will find in the android development sub forum, and they can be installed using FlashFire

I bet the Moto X 'Pure Edition' will get a pretty good following

Looks like a beauty but I only have a 14 day swap out period. Hoping this phone gets a good following because it could be a great device with xposed at the very least

All the flagships you mentioned have root. The M9 is the only one with an unlocked bootloader.
Because I hate phablets and installing TWRP on the S6 is a bad idea, I would go with the M9 if I were you.

Also twrp though. I'm not a fan of phablets either. I guess I'm going to most likely go with the m9. The edge screen is doing nothing for me yet either. I know I'll regret it once this baby gets cracked open but I'm inpatient lol

The edge display is mostly a gimmick.
