[Q] Republic Wireless Moto X Root? - Moto X Q&A

Anyone kind souls that know way more about Andorid than me looking into making this possibly possible?
I got mine today, and would die if I could put my own ROM on it and still have all the Republic-wifi-calling stuff work!

I'm looking to root too, so I can't help you with that part yet, but I can tell you that custom ROM is out of the question. The RW features are baked into the stock ROM. If you flash a new ROM, you're likely to get booted from the network.

Well, I can now speak to the root question. The RockMyMoto method worked perfectly on my wife's RW Moto X.

EDIT2: Nevermind, got it. If you're having this problem TURN OFF FAST BOOT in System>Power, itll then boot into recovery.

Each carrier will have different versions to account for different bloat and some system options (tethering,...) But at large they should be the same

There are half a dozen or so of the typical Rogers apps (MyAccount, Ringback, etc.) but they are all uninstallable. That was the first thing I did was to uninstall those apps.

Ya, I was pleasantly surprised that all Rogers apps were uninstallable. Looks like Rogers is listening to their customers and letting us choose which of their apps we want.
I am wondering if anyone has or can make a nandroid backup of the stock Rogers ROM and post it? I missed making a backup
Thank you

Pa Cm And LS are unified builds so you can flash them. There are no stock based roms specifically for this variant.
To flash those roms its a tedious process

Can you please guide me in as to how to Root my Moto X (XT-1052) and flash ParanoidAndroid.
Thanks in advance.
Here's a guide to help with the rooting. And to install a ROM, just follow the instructions in the ROM threads.

Yea it works perfect. I am on stock + faux kernel. Works like a charm. Can't live without active display.
Yea latest PA is there. Check in AOSPA thread
Just stick with the stock software so you don't lose any unique Moto features and once rooted install Xposed with the Gravity Box module. Gravity Box module has almost every Rom tweak you can think of built in, you can pick and choose what features you want to use...it's like building your own custom rom.
@DaRkRhiNe are all the indian 16Gb variants of Moto X are XT-1052 ?? Because my friend bought it and wants to root it too. Also if you are a 1052 user, did you receive the 4.4.4 update or are you still stuck on 4.4.2 like me?
@FSRBIKER what Xposed tweaks do you use?
If you want to try a stock based ROM that keeps all Motorola's goodies try Kryptonite. There's a patch for the UK XT1052 retail to get it to work.

Yea 32 gb version was not released in India. And I am still on 4.4.2
Xposed Modules, Gravity Box has most options from Roms built in, Apps Ops for controlling apps permissions, MinMinGuard for ad blocking, I'm experimenting with Intelli3G(on Play Store) right now to switch phone to 2G when screen is off then to LTE or Wifi when the screen is on to save battery. I've used Twisty Switch and XYZToolbox also.

First, make sure you paste the entire thing into notepad, and then erase all spaces so it is one single contiguous string. If it still doesn't work, try a different browser!

It is possible that your carrier has instructed Moto to not release the BL unlock code for their devices. All I can suggest is re-running the get unlock data command, triple-checking it, trying again, and then possibly trying on another computer.
In addition, the Moto website is known to be 'glitchy' sometimes, so you might try tomorrow and it could work immediately.
Sorry, this is all the advice I have for you.
Good Luck
EDIT: Also, you probably already know, but it should ONLY be the data, in one string. Remove the [bootloader] text and only have the data itself.

Rom Recommendation for Friend

Hey guys,
My friend just got the LG G2 for Verizon and he would like to root it.
He asked me this and thought to ask you experts :
Could you recommend a "safe" option for rooting? I'm very happy with the phone as-is but I need tethering capability. used foxfi for tethering for years but it doesn't work on kitkat. so maybe minimal root access?

If he's happy with the stock rom, ioroot25 is what you need to root it, there's a guide in the General section on it.

It is strictly for rooting the phone which you need to do if you want to mod the stock rom or install a recovery to install other roms.
After rooting (ioroot 25 or towelroot) you can easily modify the Hotspot provisioning for tethering or flash a stock based rom that has it built in. Either way, I'd highly recommend installing a custom recovery and making a backup. If you go the rom route, I'd highly recommend Xdabbeb's 24a rom. Stock plus a few great additions (including tethering).

[Q] Downgrade to 4.4 from 4.4.2

DO NOT DO IT! Just search this forum, downgrading causes bricks, and most likely you will end up with a phone that doesn't work at all.

A temp root is available now. It is somewhat limited, but still useful. See towelpieroot in the themes and apps subforum.
No custom rom ability, but can run most root apps.

I wouldn't even bother trying to flash ASOP builds because I know better. This really isn't for end users. Strictly for development. I'm perplexed why people are even bothering to use it.

For me I was curious to see if this is like the treble ROMs that are out. There are AOSP TREBLE ROMs out that function quite well. One of the advantages is that we have a choice not use Google apps/services with the TREBLE ROMs. Just like the old days. Most of the custom roms out now are loaded with gapps.
There's even AOSP based ROMs with gapps in this section that have a lot more customations.
It's really about choice.

My wife is using one that has a locked bootloader. I tried everything without success. Then I gave up and bought the unlocked version and gave her the Verizon one LOL.

If you have fastboot then download factory image, extract contents to fastboot folder and hit run
If not download the OTA zip, load up recovery, sideload update in recovery using ADB
