[Q] Moto x roms (XT-1052) - Moto X Q&A

I own a Moto X (XT-1052) and i seem to have a hard time finding roms that are not for carrier based models. Is there any rom for Moto X available that is not carrier based?
Any help is appreciated.

Pa Cm And LS are unified builds so you can flash them. There are no stock based roms specifically for this variant.
To flash those roms its a tedious process

Can you please guide me in as to how to Root my Moto X (XT-1052) and flash ParanoidAndroid.
Thanks in advance.

Here's a guide to help with the rooting. And to install a ROM, just follow the instructions in the ROM threads.

Does that method work properly? And which rom are you using? Also is there a latest PA rom for XT 1052? And yes I am from S advance forum.

Yea it works perfect. I am on stock + faux kernel. Works like a charm. Can't live without active display.
Yea latest PA is there. Check in AOSPA thread

Just stick with the stock software so you don't lose any unique Moto features and once rooted install Xposed with the Gravity Box module. Gravity Box module has almost every Rom tweak you can think of built in, you can pick and choose what features you want to use...it's like building your own custom rom.

@DaRkRhiNe are all the indian 16Gb variants of Moto X are XT-1052 ?? Because my friend bought it and wants to root it too. Also if you are a 1052 user, did you receive the 4.4.4 update or are you still stuck on 4.4.2 like me?
@FSRBIKER what Xposed tweaks do you use?

If you want to try a stock based ROM that keeps all Motorola's goodies try Kryptonite. There's a patch for the UK XT1052 retail to get it to work.

Yea 32 gb version was not released in India. And I am still on 4.4.2

Xposed Modules, Gravity Box has most options from Roms built in, Apps Ops for controlling apps permissions, MinMinGuard for ad blocking, I'm experimenting with Intelli3G(on Play Store) right now to switch phone to 2G when screen is off then to LTE or Wifi when the screen is on to save battery. I've used Twisty Switch and XYZToolbox also.

First, make sure you paste the entire thing into notepad, and then erase all spaces so it is one single contiguous string. If it still doesn't work, try a different browser!

It is possible that your carrier has instructed Moto to not release the BL unlock code for their devices. All I can suggest is re-running the get unlock data command, triple-checking it, trying again, and then possibly trying on another computer.
In addition, the Moto website is known to be 'glitchy' sometimes, so you might try tomorrow and it could work immediately.
Sorry, this is all the advice I have for you.
Good Luck
EDIT: Also, you probably already know, but it should ONLY be the data, in one string. Remove the [bootloader] text and only have the data itself.

[Q] ANSWERED: Can't install play store apps (Pure Edition US)

QUESTION ANSWERED
I'm unable to install apps from the play store. Tapping install just freezes the play store. I can barely even browse the play store or do anything. Factory reset isn't helping and so far all I've done is unlock bootloader and fastboot boot pure2014sb.zip
What can I do?
Thanks
PS: Does anyone know which firmware on this page is for the US Pure Edition phone? https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
Try deleting your Google account and clearing the play services cache and data. Then log back in.
Thanks but I already tried that plus factory resetting. I think the pure2014 screwed it up. I need to find out which stock image is the correct one for the pure edition

As far as I can tell they're the same. I couldn't find separate sites for them. On my build I have KXE21 and this one has KXA21. I dont think there is any difference, but im not 100%. There's a rooted image on the android Dev section with the E21.

So it looks like those file names are different once Motorola finally shares them with you. They are all for ghost, which if memory serves me correctly is the 2013 model.

Thanks for the warning. Owning a first gen model, I thought those firmware names looked a little familiar. Motorola's support is extremely lacking this year save for one nice person who talks to /r/MotoX on reddit. I wonder what happened to their support. So far 3 out of 3 support agents (1 chat, 2 phone call) have mistaken my questions about unlocked bootloaders for GSM locks, and had no idea what a bootloader is, until I explained it to them in severely layman's terms. For now I'm back on my first gen since I sadly need Verizon, and I also "need" the unlocked bootloader.
On the plus side before getting the RMA I did fix the issue. It was a bad root attempt. I skipped the pure2014 method and just used TWRP + flashing SuperSU as if it was a first gen. (second gen TWRP of course)
Thanks for all the help though.

Return to stock

Hi i hope someone can help me i would like to go back to stock Kitkat after being on CM12 lollipop for a while but i am unsure iff i have downloaded the correct stock rom. Could someone please have a look and let me know iff i have downloaded the correct Rom. This is the rom i downloaded XT1052_RETAIL-EU_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_54_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml. Before i flashed cm12 i was running Kitkat 4.4.4 and i am in the UK. I intend to do this procedure using Rsdlite.
Make sure you dont downgrade... put your phone in fastboot mode and check the bootloader version of your phone and let me know... AFAIK you Will be ok with the firmware you downloaded... Just take more precautions before flashing through rsd.. REMEMBER NEVER DOWNGRADE or else you will be hard bricked... As long as you dont downgrade and your firmware version matches your carrier you are good to go...

Ok i think you are all ready and set up to flash the stock firmware, again make sure that your phone is XT1052. And then go ahead and flash that stock firmware... And dont forget to edit the XML file and remove the lines that have "getvar'" written in them.. Save the xml file and flash through rsd.. again take precaution of the Boot loader you dont want to downgrade!
Here is a little heads up or info of boot loader's according to the firmwares for you :
30.70: original 4.2.2
30.71: 4.2.2 camera update
30.B2: 4.4
30.B4: 4.4.2
30.B7: 4.4.4
The order that I've written above is: (Bootolader: Android Version)
So you are on 30.B7 bootloader right now so you can flash 4.4.4 easily... But DONT EVER TRY TO FLASH BELOW 4.4.4...
Good luck mate...

IF the original motorola back is on the phone, there is some very fine/small print at the bottom of the back. It will have the FCC ID, Model number, etc. It could be hard to see, you might have to tilt/twist the phone so the light shines off it just right, or use a magnifying glass if you're my age.

Im surprised i think you should at least be on 4.4.4 by now but perhaps its a carrier restriction. The reason i want lollipop update is because i am now wanting to sell the phone and it will demand a slightly higher value being on the latest software.

the official android lollipop update for the Moto X (2013) hasn't been released world wide... I am familiar with this issue it used to happen to me too sometimes. CM12 is very good but i think because their is not a stable release yet their are still some little glitches. Otherwise most of the time it works really well and very customisable. Iff i wasnt going to sell my phone i would have definetly stayed with cm12 their doing a great job.

[ROM][STOCK][MM 6.0]XT1095 flashable stock rom

Here is your Christmas present.
I have created a stock rom of 6.0 marshmallow that you can flash via custom recovery. The only modifications that I have made are to remove the motrola OTA service, that way there will be no bricks from people taking an OTA and it won't bother anyone about OTA update messages. The recovery flasher was removed to prevent it from overwriting the custom recovery.
Installation:
1) If you are coming from another rom, or a different version of android you must do a factory reset.
2) Install the zip file through TWRP/CWM/etc.
3) Enjoy.
Download 6.0
Verizon CDMA users:
If you use verizon service please flash this file to to get cdma working:
Download verizon script

Use the kernel in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/root-root-moto-x-2014-android-t3249105
Also use 2.52, don't use 2.61-2.64, they cause force closes and crashes and make the phone unusable.

Hi, I get a boot loop when I flash this over cm13.
I did a factory reset from twrp first and installs fine and I selected no to the root.
I have the pure T-Mobile edition from about a year ago if that matters.
Flashed this on an XT1093 (US Cellular) and did not have network data. Any thoughts?

US Cellular uses CDMA. The xt1095 is GSM. If you change to a GSM company such as tmobile, at&t, etc it will work 100%. But this will never be compatible with US Cellular nor Verizon since they both use CDMA.

Hello XDA Fam, I've come to you for help.
Before it is asked, I did search around forums/threads but I really do have a hard time navigating around this site. And from what I seen there was no answers that I needed. Currently my Moto X4 XT1900-7 which I believe is on a factory image, no longer connects to my carrier. It is able to tell me the actual carrier but that's about it. The reason why I ask is because I'm on a completely stock image that's been updated via OTA.
I believe I lost my IMEI, carrier connection ( call it what you will) and orientation ( when you rotate your phone) after flashing this rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3876195.
Since then I've been lost. Please if anyone has a recent up to date fix for this I'd be very keen to hear from you.
I've heard of injecting the IMEI, and tried but some guide I followed on XDA was unclear. And I'm not even sure if it would fix anything .. So again if you have a clear up to date guide on this, I'd be very appreciative.
Thankyou for your time to read through. Any info you may need I can try and provide. I hope that I haven't upset anyone with posting this in the wrong section. Or the fact that it's been asked before. If so you could attach a link for me to follow
Which ROM are currently on? Stock or any other? Also give your device model name(eg. XT1900-2 in my case)
-----EDIT-----
Sorry didn't read the whole problem. What is Device Model? (XT1900-2,XT1900-4,XT1900-7)
Did you try flashing the Stock ROM again? If not, grab one from this link - https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/payton/official/RETAIL/

You can try doing -
Flashing the firmware again(stock), then try locking and unlocking the bootloader again, then, installing PE or HavocOS or any other ROM you like.
Just give it a try!

Cheers for the quick replys. Is the rom part necessary after locking/unlocking bootloader?

Yeah I suppose
The moto g4/g4 plus suffer from a similar issue. Couple threads from their xda forum. Seems some can solve it and some can't.

Google's Android flash tool

Has anyone tried this yet?
I'm going to try it tomorrow but was wondering if someone has already pulled the trigger?

I tried it as well but couldn't get it to make phone calls. I'm on Verizon and tried a few things. Yeah it's pretty plain.
It's aosp I'm really surprised Google would supply this to the masses. Reminds me of the good old days.

I wouldn't even bother trying to flash ASOP builds because I know better. This really isn't for end users. Strictly for development. I'm perplexed why people are even bothering to use it.

I have the Google store verizon on Verizon. Think you need to have an unlock bootloader to use this.

For me I was curious to see if this is like the treble ROMs that are out. There are AOSP TREBLE ROMs out that function quite well. One of the advantages is that we have a choice not use Google apps/services with the TREBLE ROMs. Just like the old days. Most of the custom roms out now are loaded with gapps.
There's even AOSP based ROMs with gapps in this section that have a lot more customations.
It's really about choice.

My wife is using one that has a locked bootloader. I tried everything without success. Then I gave up and bought the unlocked version and gave her the Verizon one LOL.
There is a thread in this section that talks about unlocking Verizon ones.
If I try this how can I flash back to a normal rom? I heard you need to use https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com but it's forbidden in my country.

It didn't work for me in the US either I just flashed the full image from Google to get back to stock.
Yeah I read somewhere that's it's a tricky business to get back to stock but I just flashed and it's back to normal. Aosp was interesting though.

If you have fastboot then download factory image, extract contents to fastboot folder and hit run
If not download the OTA zip, load up recovery, sideload update in recovery using ADB

Ok now we have a new tool. It's like the other tool mentioned in this thread. It doesn't mention needing "OEM unlocked" enabled. Question is. Can I flash Google fi firmware on my at&t phone and be able to enable "OEM Unlock" afterwards?
