QUESTION ANSWERED
I'm unable to install apps from the play store. Tapping install just freezes the play store. I can barely even browse the play store or do anything. Factory reset isn't helping and so far all I've done is unlock bootloader and fastboot boot pure2014sb.zip
What can I do?
Thanks
PS: Does anyone know which firmware on this page is for the US Pure Edition phone? https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
Try deleting your Google account and clearing the play services cache and data. Then log back in.
Thanks but I already tried that plus factory resetting. I think the pure2014 screwed it up. I need to find out which stock image is the correct one for the pure edition

Well the other GSM images are older versions of android 4.4,4.2.... The ones at the bottom are for Verizon.

Ok. How can I tell the difference between the GSM 2014 model and the GSM Dev Edition from 2013?
I just want to make sure 1000% that I don't flash the wrong firmware on a brand new device.
Thanks

As far as I can tell they're the same. I couldn't find separate sites for them. On my build I have KXE21 and this one has KXA21. I dont think there is any difference, but im not 100%. There's a rooted image on the android Dev section with the E21.

So it looks like those file names are different once Motorola finally shares them with you. They are all for ghost, which if memory serves me correctly is the 2013 model.

Could be. Odd that Motorola would give you the wrong images. This zip has all the moto x 2014 images.

Do not flash the images listed on their site yet. The Moto X 2014 images haven't been uploaded on their website yet, Motorola has posted on their forums that their working on it though.

Thanks for the warning. Owning a first gen model, I thought those firmware names looked a little familiar. Motorola's support is extremely lacking this year save for one nice person who talks to /r/MotoX on reddit. I wonder what happened to their support. So far 3 out of 3 support agents (1 chat, 2 phone call) have mistaken my questions about unlocked bootloaders for GSM locks, and had no idea what a bootloader is, until I explained it to them in severely layman's terms. For now I'm back on my first gen since I sadly need Verizon, and I also "need" the unlocked bootloader.
On the plus side before getting the RMA I did fix the issue. It was a bad root attempt. I skipped the pure2014 method and just used TWRP + flashing SuperSU as if it was a first gen. (second gen TWRP of course)
Thanks for all the help though.

I believe if you delete the exchange account and re-add it, it should work fine..
Just a heads up guys, the GSM dev edition is just running the same software are tmo, so anything for tmo can be applied to yours as well including the official OTA or the factory images for it

Been there done that. I have both a gsm dev and an AT&T and they both exibit the same behavior. There is a major bug in KitKat that flows across all devices.
Follow this thread, Option #2 including the last step(modem files) and you will be ready to successfully flash the OTA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536735
FAQ for Kit kat and How to prepare for it (All Carriers)
Beamed from my Moto X
Thank God someone asked this already! :good:
Btw, who is in charge of the Developer Edition updates (like KitKat and bug fixes)? The Motorola Team? Since it's not attached to a specific carrier when you buy it.
Last question, does it work worldwide? I'm thinking of buying this version of the Moto X, I live in Panama and this device hasn't come here (and probably won't, since it's not samsung or iphone market <_<). So if I select the "check for updates" on the phone, will it detect it? :fingers-crossed:

The GSM Developer Edition runs the same software as the T-Mobile version. Motorola is posting the factory images on their website. You can also get the files here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php
Not sure if your phone will detect an update or not but mine does on AT&T network, it shouldn't be an issue though for you as you will have two sources to get the files from yourself.

Yea it works perfect. I am on stock + faux kernel. Works like a charm. Can't live without active display.
Yea latest PA is there. Check in AOSPA thread
Just stick with the stock software so you don't lose any unique Moto features and once rooted install Xposed with the Gravity Box module. Gravity Box module has almost every Rom tweak you can think of built in, you can pick and choose what features you want to use...it's like building your own custom rom.
@DaRkRhiNe are all the indian 16Gb variants of Moto X are XT-1052 ?? Because my friend bought it and wants to root it too. Also if you are a 1052 user, did you receive the 4.4.4 update or are you still stuck on 4.4.2 like me?
@FSRBIKER what Xposed tweaks do you use?
If you want to try a stock based ROM that keeps all Motorola's goodies try Kryptonite. There's a patch for the UK XT1052 retail to get it to work.

Xposed Modules, Gravity Box has most options from Roms built in, Apps Ops for controlling apps permissions, MinMinGuard for ad blocking, I'm experimenting with Intelli3G(on Play Store) right now to switch phone to 2G when screen is off then to LTE or Wifi when the screen is on to save battery. I've used Twisty Switch and XYZToolbox also.

It is possible that your carrier has instructed Moto to not release the BL unlock code for their devices. All I can suggest is re-running the get unlock data command, triple-checking it, trying again, and then possibly trying on another computer.
In addition, the Moto website is known to be 'glitchy' sometimes, so you might try tomorrow and it could work immediately.
Sorry, this is all the advice I have for you.
Good Luck
EDIT: Also, you probably already know, but it should ONLY be the data, in one string. Remove the [bootloader] text and only have the data itself.

I don't think Verizon is pushing it to every one yet, so if you are not part of the Soak, that is why your phone says its up to date.
You can grab the OTA zip being sent as SOAK and manually flash it. (see HERE and HERE) BUT know that if you have a locked bootlaoder, you can't root it.

I wouldn't expect the process to be the same.
The Moto X was a new approach for Google/Motorola at the time.
A lot of lessons have been learned since then.
I think they finally 'get' that updating phones to the newest platform as quickly as possible is in their benefit.
All this fragmentation is like a rash that won't go away and they don't like it at all. We consumers don't either.
As a result, Google has been pressing other phone manufacturers like Samsung and HTC to release updates to their skinned devices quicker, so it would be kind of stupid if they didn't lead by example in this area.
It's my hunch that Lollipop will be released on Motorola devices very quickly....but it's just a hunch.

I think your hunch is right. I just got an email for some test software
Plus, they sent out the L preview was ahead of time and have updated it. Which means not just developers have been able to work with it, but OEMS as well. They may not have the final L version, but they've been able to work with L in some way since June. That gives them a great head start that they didn't have before.

Same here. I unrooted (after rooting earlier with jcase's supersu boot img) according to instructions and flashed stock recovery/boot image, but the bootloader is still showing "Software status: Modified." Does anybody know if there will be an issue with the OTA because of that or if there's anyway to get that to disappear without a factory reset?

Probably not this simple, but if we get root maybe the bootloader from one of these prototypes can be copied to a turbo using a dd command. Then we would all have unlocked bootloaders

That would not work because it is not signed by moto. The ONLY things that matter are: 1) Signed vs unsigned packages and 2) bootloader exploits. Some BL exploits require root, most do now since they have gotten advanced. I miss the days of hardware level exploits and stuff. No more though. Root will likely be needed for a BL unlock and I would assume once root drops people will start working on one. Jcase has unlocked many motos and I would assume he will work on one when he has time (he is sick and very busy).
So root will not allow a BL unlock by itself. I am not even sure if this root exploit removes /system write protection. Some don't. We just have to wait and see.
I was busy last week, but if there will be BL unlock for Verizon Droid Turbo, then I'll make the CM12 / CM12.1 universal.

Hi,
I haven't brought the moto maxx/moto turbo here in India. But I'll buy it soon and will be happy to help you in cm12 development.
Regards

Since when isn't a Motorola Engineering Bootloader signed by Motorola?

But he already said he shows no interest in unlocking the turbo.
EDIT: Gah, double post didn't get merged.

If you dump the package yourself I would imagine it would no longer have the same check sum no? Jcase has said this about many devices and then out of nowhere released exploits. I am not asking him to, I am just saying he enjoys doing this and is really, really good at it. I can see him collaborating with the root author to develop a proper exploit if it does not already exist. Either way, this root probably won't be released for another few weeks, if ever.

No, if you dump the bootloader yourself, it will be signed with the exact same certificates as when it was compiled. As a quick demonstration, take a device (not the Turbo) and download a custom kernel for it.
Check (and make note of) the MD5 checksum. Then install it.
Boot it once or twice, messing around with it. Then dump it (via
Code:
dd if="/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot" of="/sdcard/boot.img"
) and compare the MD5 of your dumped image to that of the one that had not yet been installed. Zero difference.
