Return to stock - Moto X Q&A

Hi i hope someone can help me i would like to go back to stock Kitkat after being on CM12 lollipop for a while but i am unsure iff i have downloaded the correct stock rom. Could someone please have a look and let me know iff i have downloaded the correct Rom. This is the rom i downloaded XT1052_RETAIL-EU_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_54_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml. Before i flashed cm12 i was running Kitkat 4.4.4 and i am in the UK. I intend to do this procedure using Rsdlite.

Make sure you dont downgrade... put your phone in fastboot mode and check the bootloader version of your phone and let me know... AFAIK you Will be ok with the firmware you downloaded... Just take more precautions before flashing through rsd.. REMEMBER NEVER DOWNGRADE or else you will be hard bricked... As long as you dont downgrade and your firmware version matches your carrier you are good to go...

Ok i think you are all ready and set up to flash the stock firmware, again make sure that your phone is XT1052. And then go ahead and flash that stock firmware... And dont forget to edit the XML file and remove the lines that have "getvar'" written in them.. Save the xml file and flash through rsd.. again take precaution of the Boot loader you dont want to downgrade!
Here is a little heads up or info of boot loader's according to the firmwares for you :
30.70: original 4.2.2
30.71: 4.2.2 camera update
30.B2: 4.4
30.B4: 4.4.2
30.B7: 4.4.4
The order that I've written above is: (Bootolader: Android Version)
So you are on 30.B7 bootloader right now so you can flash 4.4.4 easily... But DONT EVER TRY TO FLASH BELOW 4.4.4...
Good luck mate...

IF the original motorola back is on the phone, there is some very fine/small print at the bottom of the back. It will have the FCC ID, Model number, etc. It could be hard to see, you might have to tilt/twist the phone so the light shines off it just right, or use a magnifying glass if you're my age.

Hello guys just to update i have had success in flashing the stock firmware using rsdlite and thankyou for the help you all provided. Their is just one more thing i believe the moto x has been updated to lollipop in the time i was on CM12 . Now that i am back on kitkat is their any way i could get the official lollipop update through normal system update as when i check it is not being offered.

Same here I'd like to get the official lollipop. I have the XT1050, its a weird phone but pretty cool. The latest Android version I have is 4.4.2
Looks like you're ahead, lol

Im surprised i think you should at least be on 4.4.4 by now but perhaps its a carrier restriction. The reason i want lollipop update is because i am now wanting to sell the phone and it will demand a slightly higher value being on the latest software.

I thought that myself but according to Motorola's website Android 4.4.4 hasn't even been release for the XT1050
Plus I don't know what carrier the phone has. There's no carrier label ANYWHERE on the phone

the official android lollipop update for the Moto X (2013) hasn't been released world wide... You have to wait for motorola to release it for your model of X..So just wait for the Update to pop up it self... And if you got successful you could appreciate us by hitting the "Thanks Button" on our posts which helped you get through your problem

I am familiar with this issue it used to happen to me too sometimes. CM12 is very good but i think because their is not a stable release yet their are still some little glitches. Otherwise most of the time it works really well and very customisable. Iff i wasnt going to sell my phone i would have definetly stayed with cm12 their doing a great job.

In that case... It's the firmware that shipped with the first release batch of the Motorola RAZR i. It is "branded" for the Great Britain region (thus the Retail.en.GB). It has an OTA update, maybe unofficial here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028814
I assume if it does not update OTA to JB
that I can without unlocking/rooting flash a later stock EU/UK friendly genuine Moto firmware?

That didn't quite make sense to me.
The current OTA we have is to a higher ICS version.
You can unlock the bootloader and flash whatever firmware you want with my home-made fastboots
There is an GB-update today for retail so no need to fastboot.
Is it Jelly Bean ?!?!?

So, from the Motorola global website I can see that the original shipping version for Verizon is this:
139.10.53.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US
and the update is supposed to take it to this:
139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US
However, my phone version shows this:
139.10.51.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US
Is it possible I don't even have the factory default version?? I got the phone from Swappa, is this a device with a pre-production build on it?

No, don't do it. Downgrading causes bricks. You must always use same version or newer.

That's because the base that you're currently on is a port from Verizon's 4.4.3 Kitkat update. They had more updates than we had. So for Sprint, we're currently still at 4.4.2. with a lower version #.
We won't move from that point til what is probably going to be the M7's final update for us, Lollipop 5.0.
Thanks!! :good:

He means, go to Settings>About Device and look what the Android Version is. If it is 5.0 then do not bother looking to root your device...it's not possible on an ATT device with Android 5.0 right now.

You can't downgrade if you're already on 5.0, and even if you could, you can't install anything beyond Touchwiz (Samsung) based ROMs because of a locked bootloader.
Let me know if you have any luck

Thank you for posting this question because I am in the exact same situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy S 5 Android 5.1.1. I was never interesting in rooting my phone until just recently and have been doing some light reading on Life Hacker to learn more and it brought me here. I just wanted to clarify your comment above. Are you saying that having the phone that I/we have we are completely out of luck if we wanted to root/modify our phones? Forever or just until something changes down the road?
Well I sold my at&t s5 and ordered a unlocked tmobile s5 to use on at&t with my sim card because you can root the tmobile version. I hope one day soon someone will figure out how to root it I believe it will be done soon just keep checking back on here.

I don't think that will work, the firmware listed there is 4.4.2 which is KitKat, you can not downgrade to KK if you are on lollipop or marshmallow, you could soft brick or worse. I would not attempt this unless you are actually on KK.

For future reference, don't give these unsure ideas to people and tell them to update their phones like this. At the moment, YOU CANNOT GET ROOTED LOLLIPOP 100% of the time unless you were/are on 4.4.2 KitKat with root (use Towelroot) and update through muniz_ri's update method. Trying to downgrade to KitKat will result in a bricked device as the thread previously mentioned.
The reason why root persists on 5.0 when you update it via this method is due to using the older bootloader which doesn't verify the system's integrity the same way the newer bootloaders do.
