Contacts/Dialer app? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I have a friend who has a Droid. I think he said it'a a few years old, probably at least 3. It has 2.2.3 on it. He was complaining about the contacts app not having enough fields and options on it.
He actually carries some type of Pocket PC thing in addition to the phone. Older gent. What could I recommend to him as a contacts/dialer app that is good and can sync with Google?
I looked in the About section on the phone and under model, it just said Droid.

I don't know how much he is into custom roms and stuff, but I recommend to try out CM7 or any other custom rom. I've never used Froyo (2.2), but even Gingerbread (2.3) had a really decent phone/contacts app and is more widely supported by apps.

Custom ROM not a possibility.

[Q] A few questions from a newbie on the fence on what to flash.

So after 2 awful years with a first gen Blackberry storm I decided to make the jump to android with the captivate. Originally I was holding out for the Nexus S as I really wanted a vanilla Android experience (I have a deep hatred for bloatware) but unfortunately around where I live it appears Verizon and AT&T are the only ways to go if you want any sort of decent coverage.
Anyways, I've been doing a bunch of research and watching videos the past week I've decided to flash either Perception (build 8) or Cognition (probably 2.3b6) and am leaning towards P8 as of now. I am wondering how much of these ROMs is vanilla android.
I realize from what I've read/watch that the touchwiz launcher is removed in both of these roms as well as the AT&T bloatware, but is much of the other base applications such as mail, media player, etc is still the samsung apps?
Basically, I'm wondering how close to vanilla android will the launcher/interface be with one of these Roms (obviously the roms include some additional apps, I guess I mean just the basic functionality/interface).
Also, is there a major difference between running a rom such as Perception or Cog opposed to simply unlocking/lag fixing and removing bloatware as far as general speed and lag. I know these roms are using leaked Froyo firmware opposed to the stock eclair I would have if I did not flash, but I'm curious how big of a leap in performance it is.
Thanks for the responses, hopefully my questions make sense, my captivates not coming till Monday (bought it through Amazon wireless) and I've been reading random android forums seemingly nonstop.

I always click thanks button before quote button now! Oh well.
I know cognition has twlauncher, not sure about perception (I don't remember..)
All custom ROMs have bloatware removed at your convenience. I'd say froyo is definitely faster. Either voodoo lagfix from xcal's kernel or lagfix from SetiroN's kernel gives a big performance increase. Cognition is based on a captivate rom whereas perception is based on an i9000 ROM.
No ROMs right now provide complete vanilla experience. I believe I read it somewhere that the Galaxy S line devices use rfs loops whereas usual android uses ext and this causes a problem for devs to port over vanilla android or other skins like HTC Sense. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong?) As of currently all the stable ROMs are based on froyo leaks with captivate, vibrant, or i9000.
I've tried many variations with stock roms, rooted, lag fixed etc. I currently use the cognition rom, latest one. It is much faster and better than the stock. It has voodoo lagfix built in. I haven't tried p8, because I like the cognition so well. I definately recommend giving cognition a try. I was also going to try Axura, but haven't for the same reason.

Try Assonance or Axura. IMO they're more vanilla than Cognition or Perception.
Thanks for all the info all.
Honestly I haven't even looked into assonance or axura, are they as stable as Cog/Perception?
quarlow, when you say you use the latest version of Cog do you mean b6 or b7? I know b7 just came out a day or two ago. I'd stick with the non-oc versions, seems like they tend to have alot less issues from what I've read.
My bad, I'm using b6, I didn't know there was already another version. Yeah ... I don't do the oc thing. I have a hard enough time between charges without adding oc. It really is screaming fast already.

I haven't really tried Cognition or Perception, but I've tried both Axura and Assonance and both ROMs seemed really stable.
ah jeez, now that I've been looking into it, I think I'm gonna go with assonance. Seems like its alot more stable than either Cog/Perception from what people are saying.
Just curious though, how fast/smooth does it run? Compared to stock and/or Cog/Perception?
Axura gets my vote
Stable and fast without needing to overclock
Need to use google voice for vm notifications though

All 2.2 Roms are smooth and fast compared to stock. Assonance will be your most vanilla (least amount of Samsung apps). Auxura is heavily themed and no where near vanilla. Plus it's based off of leaked Vibrant and I'm not a big fan (though I'm definitely in the minority here). Personal favorite is di11igaf's Rom. It is also heavily themed, but all themes can be changed and it works the best as far as functionality (my opinion, of course).

I'll second this. di11igaf's ROM is the most stable and fastest I've used. It might not be "vanilla" since it is themed, but the dark theme on it is so nice. You'll like it. I've flashed this for friends at work and they all love it and they have no more forced close issues, whereas they complained frequently about FCs with Cognition.
If you don't mind beta software, CyanogenMod is the best. It's actually built from AOSP code, with only Samsung drivers. All the other custom roms are just modified versions of the stock rom/leaked rom.
I run perception 8 with gingerbread theme and vanilla apps injected in place of sammy ones... so I kinda feel like im running gingerbread

What's the best internal rom?

Ok, I'm a little overwhelmed by the number of nook roms out there, and I would like to know what everyone uses and why.
I've tried 2, and they all have benefits/negatives and I'm trying to figure out which to be my daily driver, while we wait for the next generation of roms to come about.

well which 2 have you already tried?
I personally use CyanogenMod 7, but that's because I use it on my Droid, and that's because it's the first ROM I found when I got my droid.
I haven't had it crash on me yet, but there was a Wi-Fi problem I had to fix through ADB. (Link) Otherwise, it's been more than good enough for a daily driver. I really haven't had experience with other ROMs. I just flashed the thing with CM7 while I was still in B&N. I would recommend a Honeycomb ROM, but that's not very "complete" yet.
Sorry I can't say much else (), but I gave my $.02.

I wasn't going to mention them so I could hear everyone's full opinion despite what I've tried and not hold back because I've tried it.
However, I don't want to be a **** so it's cm7 and HC v.4 now don't let that sway your opinions!

I was having the wifi issues to (Atleast I assume it's the same, I would just lose connection and have to reconnect pretty consistently) the thing that actually bothered me most about it was the back and menu buttons up at the top right. To small, wanted a different more tablety layout.

Oh, no the Wi-Fi issue was much worse. I couldn't get the chip to activate! At least the fix worked, though.
If "too small" is the problem, increase the LCD Density.
If you want a more tablet-like layout, you will have to deal with Honeycomb in its current state.
If you don't like the CM7 buttons, use SoftKeys or Button Savior.
(I would post links, but I can't.)
I tried soft keys, but I haven't tried button savior. and didn't know about lcd density. If I go back (which isn't in my nature with roms) I may try it out.
I'm really liking honeycomb especially as far as layout, but I would like a bit more stability. But really I Can live with whatever, the nook is really my fourth internet device and currently just a toy.

The solution is patience, then.
Wait for the Google to give us the source, and all your problems will be solved.
(Don't forget that HC is a port of the SDK emulator image.)
well I knew that, that's why I wanted to know what everyone else is using so maybe I could try some other things out... during that wait it out time
Well... if you want to try a Galaxy Tab-like experience, try this:
Install Nookie Froyo
Set LCD Density to 250
Install ADW and set the app drawer to paged.
(Continue with other minor tweaks here)
i'm rolling nookie froyo 0.6.7, but i'm going to move up to 0.6.8 soon. i like it, but i'm sure honeycomb is much better. since the bugs in hc for the nook color are still being hammered out, though, i'm going to stick with the stable froyo rom for the time being.

Yeah this is kind of the info I was looking for, trying to see which roms had what features and still had the best stability.
HC is awesome, but not yet a daily driver (unless you're the adventurous type) I have a friend who is about to buy a nc for himself and he wants me to root it for him. I have no problems with a buggy rom for me, but for him I need stable yet best.
not sure where you are getting the idea that there are so many roms to choose from.
We have stock rooted, nookie froyo, honeycomb v3 and cyanogenmod (gingerbread).
there is one modified version of cyanogenmod -- firemod and one customized nookie froyo build. thats about it as far as i know... am i missing a bunch of roms somewhere?
you can try all of them out relatively quickly and form your own opinion but if you insist....
stock rooted is the most functional option at the moment. oc to 1100mhz for speed and other tweaks. nookie froyo is second with faster overall 'smoothness' but still has some bugs to work out. third is cyanogenmod which is quickly catching up to froyo and is my personal favorite. just needs video acceleration at this point. last is honeycomb but very fun to play with.

That might be all of them, it seems a bit more for anyone walking into this dev thread, with the internal and on sdcard roms.
But seeing them listed out like this is very helpful thank you!
Is there large differences between the customized roms and their noncustomized origins?
personally id recommend rooted stock rom. Ive tried nookie froyo and honeycomb v4. Froyo was really slow. It was really frustrating browsing with it. Honeycomb is much faster than froyo but a lot of apps dont install. Stock rom was stable and I wasnt able to install just a couple of apps that I tried from the android market
personally, i'm only adventurous to the point of rooting. after that, i want stability. i don't mind staying a release or 2 behind the most recent releases just so i know the issues are being dealt with.
with froyo, i'm able to use my own launcher and customize pretty much to my liking. i still don't see all the apps i want in the market, but there are enough forum posts here and on android central that link you to apk downloads so that you can install them through adb. i've seen some fixes for this, but it seems to be an issue on both froyo and hc. hope this helps!

With my phone, I'm less adventurous, I have calmed down to where now I only put release candidate and stable cm roms.
However I got this nook for a really really great deal (100$ plus the cover) and I want to try out whatever I can (and if possible help, though I have little to none coding skills) I might have to try the froyo build out since it's technically the only one I Haven't tried based on the above list (minus the 2 custom roms)
I kinda wish there was a customized version of the stock rom.
I guess the oc kernel counts?

I actually just bought setcpu to try overclocking the kernals a little bit on my NC.
What would You customize about stock?
after flashing back to froyo i must say it is far better then I remembered.
maybe it's the newer kernels but it is fast and smooth. hardware video works which i was missing on cm7.
so i change my (current) order to nookie froyo, then stock rooted, followed by cm7 and then honeycomb. i would try them all though and see for yourself.

Need a Better ROM Than CM

I have had about enough of CyanogenMod. Been using it since 5, and every single version has had significant usability problems. Currently in 7.0.3 photos are bad, GPS is non-functional, it forgets settings like keyboard, and when I first answer the phone no one can hear me.
Terrible. There has got to be something better. If not I'm going to stock.
You can use MIUI ROM
Enomther's
It's not gingerbread but is by far the most stable and the fastest.
There's many ROM on this forum, you are free to use which ever make you happy.
CM7 has been great for me since the first nightly.
Autinhyeu seriously? Like RoDrIgUeZsTyLe, or straight MIUI?
Are most functions stable?
baseballfanz I'm glad you've had such luck. Many of us haven't. I'm looking for feedback of others' experiences on which ROMs seem to work the best. I already know which one I'm not using anymore.

Yes, MIUIMOD from Rod
i had use MIUI Stock 4 months ago, then i use CM 7 nightly build, and now, i comeback MIUI with MIUIMOD ROM, after a week use, with some tutorial, i think its best for my phone at the moment, hehe... some user dont want use MIUI, because it like as iOS but i dont care, it gives me comfort & i use it...
With MIUIMOD, you will have more than free Internal memory and RAM memory...
anyway, i saw dont more difference between the CM7 and MIUI, you can choice
With CM all I had to do was wipe and use Amon Ra to flash zip.
There are no instructions with RoDrIgUeZsTyLe except "MIUIMOD D2SD HowTo", which only seems to do with partitioning. Do partitions actually need to be changed, and if so why?
How to apply the ROM and why aren't there instructions?
Also he says, " (Please Read the D2SD HowTo)", but there's no link and a search doesn't turn it up.
MIUI is pretty good
Which one? I've found four so far, including one that seems to have Chinese buttons.

You should definitely go for QND MIUI
Used it from the beginning and I'm loving it. It's stock MIUI with XJ's multilanguage pack, so it's just like MIUI is supposed to be. No junk or ugly themes added
I also get the delayed connection when I answer calls but besides that CM7 is the best there is.Some debate MIUI is better but its a matter of the individuals likes/dislikes. Also the themes and control of customization on CM7 IMO by far surpasses any other rom out there currently so you should prolly stick w/ CM. Hopefully the next stable release fixes the bugs your speaking of
Mouse I've been patient with CM since version 5, and I am fed up.
The good news is I am really digging this MIUIMod. Seems much more modern, smooth, and usable than CM. Have just now gotten things set up so it remains to be seen how well things work, but the camera is sure better and that's a biggie for me.

flash away then and see what one you like the best thats what its all about...i would just use stock miui from either here or miui-dev if you are that finicky about roms
I just have so much to set up that it takes about a day. This is one thing that was so irritating abut CM; in order to correct atrocious usability bugs I'd have to completely reinstall each month and start all over again. I started with Rodriguez today and that's fine so far except for the lack of Galaxy wallpaper. Still have alot to learn about MIUI. Lucky it's Saturday...
You could always to CM6.x if you like CM's features.

So much has been fixed and improved in the latest cyan nightlies over 7.0.3 that you prob should try that out first.
Have you given any of eVilD's sense roms? NXSense and NXSense HD have been working pretty well for me, although nobody can beat MIUI battery life and cuatomuzability
Haven't checked out the Sense ROMs.
MIUI is very nice so far. Desktops rotate like a cube and other nice effects. It's like a 21st century iPhone except without the restrictions, not a 20th century Windows-like CM phone. And I've found the Galaxy wallpaper in the market. My desktops are games|multimedia|default|appts/calendar|utilities. There is no launcher place where all the apps are; all apps are on desktops, but you can put apps inside a folder app which is very handy. Those apps I use are on desktops, those I rarely use are in Apps, Utilities, Multimedia, and Unused folders. No more screenshot app needed; it's Menu:VolDown now.
GPS still has problems, and still some things I haven't figured out. I need to put contacts into folders in the contacts app. With CM I'd put them into one contact and change the label to Custom with their name in it. That is only simulating folders though. Wish there were a better way or an app that could handle folders. Edit: Hey, Contacts has something called Groups, which just may be the ticket! Experimenting.
Does anyone know why DroidWall is no longer in the Market? That is my most valued app to keep out G**gle's prying eyes.

General Problem with Firmware Choise -.-

Hey guys,
I have a prob, cauz I dont know, which rom I should choose from the giant amount atm.
My actual FW is Ficeto's Base Rom JVT or so. But it doesnt run like I want it so I'm searchin bout 2 weeks for a good rom. But now there are again some new roms, that were leaked or released.
So should I wait for them, cauz user say, that the rom is much better than JVT?
Do you have a personally prefered Rom you would recommend to me?
I want a nice and smooth experience with my phone without havin to fight with FC's and unfinished Looks :/ And is there a really good way to backup my apps? I did hear somethin about the titanium backup or so, but I dont really know what to do^^
I also thought about switching to CM7 and use TW4.5 cause I really like the surface but otherwise CM7 doesnt have some nice apps, which I like from samsung like the music player and the calendar. :/ But I saw in one of the MIUI-Threads, that someone added the tw-framework to the CM-based rom, but I dont know, if the dev also added some apps from samsung :?
so, thx and hopin for your replies

Titanium Backup is exactly what you're looking for. And it's simple: open Titanium Backup, go to the second tab at the top (Backup/Restore), click on any app and then click either Backup or Restore, depending on what you want to do. Also, if you press menu on the main screen, there's an option called "Batch"—and this will, with one click, backup/restore any critera of apps (for example, backup all my user apps, or restore all my system apps). Also, please note that when you're changing firmwares (for example, Samsung to CM7) DO NOT restore the app's data—only restore the app. Otherwise you risks annoying force closes.

I don't mind the apps at all. Plus, there's usually more suitable ones on the market anyways. If you want Samsung apps, simply use Samsung firmware; otherwise, you have plenty of choices. Also, could you link me to the person saying they have Samsung's firmware in a CM-based ROM?
Hope I helped. There's really a lot of options for ROMs. But you'll have to try some for yourself to find out.
Check this thread out here
I think Malcho recently said the best most reliable is Darky 10.2, I would suggest it, i dont remember having force closes, but its worth a try. Being on Ficeto base im sure you are accustomed to their website...
If that doesn't appeal, then i suggest you search for stock roms...

Darky's ROM is like stock with a few tweaks (available all over this board) thrown into it. If it wasn't stable, there would be a problem. I wouldn't really recommend it, but if you're not wanting to stray far from stock, it'd be alright.
@upichie:
I have been using darkys rom since version 5.0 or somethin like that In this time I also tried some roms, like CM7 and docs rom, if I remember correctly. but the performance of Darkys Rom was the best at those good times before.
But after all the new roms released like JVS and JVT the perfomance of the phone was not very good after some time. Well, thats why I want to change my rom.
I also checked this thread out, some time ago.
But I could choose the right one of the roms. Actually I want to have the SGS2 feeling, but Wtf, settings have forced-close, video player doesnt even work.
I thought already about to flash this rom and replace the brocken apps with the sgs1-versions Maybe it would work. But I just do some brainstorming.
The main question about CM7 is:
Does this rom really consume so much energy? Cauz I actually wanna use my phone at least for 2 days without recharging it all the time

Well, I'm not registered on darkys site, but I actually visit it sometimes, if I want to check out, of there is a new base rom, which runs smoother than mine. But in the last time there havent been any updates so far :/
So, thanx for the answers, I may will upgrade to CM7 in the next few days Have to take a closer look on the installing instructions Before, it was kinda difficult and just had to many annoying steps to get to your goal
best regards
alex
Well i'm using CM7 and im generally getting approx 2 days out of it, which is more than what i used to get on others... I think it's worth a try, im having some camera trouble, such as if i choose a setting like text, when i try take a picture it force closes. I have not looked into this as it hasn't been a huge issue, so it may only be me.
For CM7 installation, i have the link below which i used. He makes it sound like a huge deal but it isn't really (entertaining for sure! )
Ficeto has released 10.2 RE, that was a few months ago, but i remember reading that there were very few if not zero issues with that. (Not sure if this JVP base rom is after or before..)

[Q] My head is spinning - how to evaluate ROMs/kernels - wait for ICS?

First - Kudos to XDA and all of the amazing developers and contributors. I never believed in the concept of "too much of a good thing", but this place has me thinking that it might be possible.
I want fast and stable (unlike others looking for slow and unstable ). Due to the frequent releases and unimaginably long threads, I'm having trouble pinpointing the info that I need. Since the forum doesn't allow me to ask opinions, please provide guidance on how to find the data.
It does seem that there are several dependable choices and I can't go wrong by rolling the dice among them. Is that a fair statement? I only want to do this once, because I do not have the time or skills to evaluate and compare the installations.
And then there is ICS. The ROMs seem imminent. Anyone want to speculate on the ETA of a stable release? Would it make sense to wait?
I will get back to you later when I'm on my computer, reserved. ...

Depending on your needs, and what you're running now. There are some very good/stable GB releases, I personally like Mosaic 8 the most. Apex 10.1 is also very good. For something a little different, Miui is also very good. I suffer from somewhat poor battery life on Miui in comparison to Mosaic 8.
ICS is looking good, but there are some pretty major issues in the way right now, we really do need a kernel for our devices even though the i9000 works. There is no data(3g), and no Google calendar sync are the main issues for me. Obviously the dev's are working their butts off to get ICS going, and I dont like to speculate on timelines, because you just never know. Someone could crack the code today, or it could be weeks.

Thanks for mentioning battery life. That's a factor that I hadn't considered. I guess that I should expand my question to ask what are the factors that I should consider? So far I have three:
Stability
Speed
Battery life
---
If more are suggested, I'll add them to this post as they come in.
---
when pairing up a kernel and rom they must be the same android version (eg 2.2 2.3.3 or 2.3.5) build code (kk kj ) isnt important. (thanks TRusselo)
Do not reinstall apps that previously "fixed" issues like battery life, memory issues and GPS inadequacies because they may introduce instability, which sometimes may persist after the app is uninstalled.
Flashing is quick and easy. TiBU restores, settings tweaks and home app set-up is time consuming. Accordingly, kick a few tires to help decide which ROM works best for you.
well all the gingerbread roms are "stable". ( froyo too obviously)
many things can affect speed and battery- kernel, your apps, your habbits.
if trying a froyo first before "movin on up" MUST TRY firefly 3.0 with onix kernel. battery life worth drooling over! and many themes available for it.
gingerbread, many great roms.
when it comes to kernels, lately ive been seeing alot of "highly tweaked" kernels (eg red nebula) that well, just seems like over-kill (especially without kernel source) and to a new user is kinda "head spinning" stick with something simple and close to stock to start. samurai is a good place to start, or boogs kernels...

I assume that apps that run in the background or are processor intensive will be slower and consume more power. Is there any info to determine which ROMs or kernels are better with those kind of apps?

Is the kernel source an issue for someone that is not a developer? How?

I'll add that to the list above. Thanks, and thanks for all of your info.

Most of those issues will be determined by the apps you run, not so much the kernel you run.
On Mosaic, I have very good performance with Talon, and Semaphore

While going through the excellent XDA and Android Terms and Acronyms, I came across the definition for No-Wipe Package:
NO-WIPE PACKAGE: A rom update package that leaves the user's market apps intact while still performing the updates to the system files. Restoring from backup is not necessary.

Now that seem like a strong reason to use a package. Does anyone know which ROMs come with a No-Wipe Package?
However, is there any advantage to clean installs through backup/restore? Can a No-Wipe Package be used when going from Froyo to Gingerbread?
No wipe packages are usually for one ROM, when some stuff has changed but not the firmware version or anything super major.
Most roms are wipe packages, titanium backup pro comes in real handy, menu> batch> restore missing apps. And walk away til its done.

I too was wondering about this.
I'm on FireFly 3.0 and was thinking of going to Dlev 4.2.
I don't like flashing roms because it takes to long to get the phone back to my config. I prefer to flash and stick with it for some time.
Should I/we stick with a GB rom or wait for ICS?
Is there anything mind blowing in ICS that will change our world as we know it?

Look, too say ICS is "imminent" is just an overstatement..........if you have not done anything to oyour phone, or have little experience, ICS maybe a step too far ahead.
If you want to go straight to Gingerbread, that may more understandable.
In my OPINION, Apex 10.1 (a i9000 ROM) or Pinnacle 1.2 (a SGH-1987 ROM) are great top-of-the-line ROMs, especially because watsa includes his own ODIN packages and they are ready to go. A no-brainer for most folks. The instructions and packages are a big plus.
Now that I'm done
The upgrade was a much more painful experience than expected, but well worth the outcome.
I wanted to do it once, and I succeeded if you redefine "once" as 5 ROM flashes with full TiBU restores, settings tweaks and home app (GO Launcher) set-up. I also performed several other ROM and Kernel flashes where I just briefly checked out the look and feel and how well a few features worked. Surprisingly, basic apps such as the Market could be problematic. Even more surprisingly, the same ROM could perform differently when reflashed.
I suspect that is partly because I had a very sick cappy. Some of my problems were caused by too many app fixes that caused their own problems. One of the reasons for the multiple flashes with TiBu restores was to isolate the trouble makers while the rest of my apps were installed. In the end, I removed every app that "fixed" issues like battery life, memory issues and GPS inadequacies. Now that I know better, I think of these apps as personal bloat ware that should not be installed with any new ROM or kernel until you've had a chance to understand if you have problems requiring a fix. Sometimes, even installing and then uninstalling seems to create permanent problems.
I also learned not to be intimidated by flashing. It's an easy to understand and quick process. The key is to check out the ROM before the hard part - TiBu restores and customizing the settings.
BTW - The winner was (drum roll please ) - Illuminance 2.1.1. It has several SGSII features (new Swype is nice), seems fast, doubled my battery life and has been stable. I compared it to a friend's brand-spanking new AT&T SGS II and my reborn cappy held up. For example, the SGSII was a a bit faster on loading Google Maps, getting a fix and loading a traffic overlay, but not so much that there was a functional difference.
I actually flashed Illuminance 3 times - once just to kick the tires. I removed it once because my bloat created instability and caused the Market not to work. The only minor issue I have left is GPS optimization. The GPS works well (previously was often useless and very slow), but from reading this forum I believe it could be snappier and more accurate.
I added some of these observations to my second post on this thread.
Personally, I'd say just flash MIUI and then wait for the ICS port to become stable enough to be used as a daily driver without any major setbacks. But only because that's what I'm doing
The main attraction of MIUI is its huge degree of customization. You can customize everything from the battery icon to the framework itself without ever having to reboot your phone. You just find a theme you like and apply it.
The only downside of it is the battery life. While in use, it's the same as any other Samsung/CM7-based ROM, but it usually drains at ~5% per hour when in standby. Of course this can be kept at around ~2% an hour if you keep wifi/data/sync turned off (personal experience, ymmv).
... The more you know

Ok, so I spent a week or so reading up, and finally this afternoon, I flashed over to Pinnacle v1.2. I noticed that there was a v1.3, but I didn't get it.
It worked like a charm! I was done in under an hour. Thanks for your advice!
i would add that if you are getting into flashing a lot of different roms, its worth getting the paid version of Titanium Backup because it can restore all of your apps and settings in one step, rather than with the free version, where you have to click "install" for each one as the batch process happens. it will literally save you hours for all of maybe $6
If you really don't want to lose anything and you're getting into flashing it might be worth your money to invest in mybackup pro ontop of titanium backup pro.
It will restore call logs, sms, mms, specific app settings (like if you use a market keyboard), plus alot more. Its definitely worth it, you can restore nearly everything between after switching roms to a new daily driver.
Flashing is a disease so don't be surprised when you get the urge to look up whats new in a couple weeks and wanna try the different ICS roms and such, make all the backup software extremely important.

No...not really (on Beta 2 ics)...its just cool
I would update though.....really stable.
There is not a true beta 2 ICS for the Captivate, ytt3r hasn't done it yet.

Its the i9000 build with a custom captivate kernel....works the same as it would if it were a i897 rom.
Dude I know what it is... But there isn't a beta 2 kernel for the captivate yet...
