[Q] How do i get busybox on the stock rom ? - HTC First

i kinda already got setup, unlocked, and everything on the stock rom, since this phone (and other htc phones) is/are "system locked" how do i get busybox on this? i figured they would stick through recovery but i cant seem to find a flashable busybox xbin/bin, and i know there USED to be a way to bypass the system lock but it used to cause kernel panics, what do i do ?
ive tried using moonshine but as i posted in that thread it just freezes after Test 2 at ERROR: ADB failure

You need to have S-OFF to install busybox via the actual app or you can just manually flash it via recovery.

Moonshine is the only way, just do it lol it's extremely easy. I've ruu'd my first countless times already and turned s-off many times too no problems.
Here's the thread I used to flash busybox before I turned my s-off though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44175626
First I downloaded busybox from the playstore then I flashed it.

I used something called RUMRUNNER , I believe the url is something like rumrunner.us , anyways it uses similar commands as moonshine and similar website , but anyways since moonshine didn't work they recommended rumrunner on the irc and it worked perfect , the only thing though is that it caused a soft-brick which the only solution is to Relock the bootloader , which is fine because even with a lock boot loader you should still be able to flash roms and I think flash recoveries (I don't know just pick a custom recovery that you like just in case you can't later) and yeah that was it.
Oh another thing, if for some unknown reason you DONT wanna relock the boot loader (which keeps S-off after locking) then none of the roms based off stock will work, only the sense ports worked while unlocked and s-off for me.
But yeah this may not happen to everyone, just sharing my solution to a boot loop / soft brick if it happens to anyone who reads this as well.

[Q] fast boot missing from battery settings, cant get S-OFF

Hi all,
I've been trying to get s-off on my One for a a few hours now and I've searched a lot of threads looking for an answer.
I think my problem is that I don't have an option on my One to disable fast boot in the battery settings, so attempting the s-off methods fail. I've tried different roms and even changed my kernel in an attempt to make the option reappear, but nothing worked. Any ideas on how to get the fast boot option to reappear?
Details:
GE-based rom 4.3
kernel based on GE 4.3 kernel
Please let me know what specific details you need.

Doubt if it's the "fastboot" option that's preventing you from obtaining S off. What's your Hboot version? Anything above 1.44, you won't be able to S off. It's advised that you should be rooted and type in the root command (su) in adb shell to get root access, then start the S-off process.

I've actually been able to obtain s-off since this post by doing hard restarts instead of rebooting via adb. I still have no idea why the fast boot option disappeared, but everything is going smooth now for my migration to a GE One.

Noob question
Just got my one on Saturday, I've unlocked it and running a custom Rom. Tried to get s-off and it says successful but when I go into recovery it says s-on and shows up with tampered on screen.
Tried different methods but still failed.
After reading this post I realise that my hboot is 1.54 and can't be done.
My question is that since s-off isn't available what does it mean for me personally? What are the limitations of my device without s-off?
I've just come from an Xperia Z so I didn't have to deal with any of this

With the S on your still able to flash custom roms, kernels, recoveries and flash radios, fine for most users since this gives you plenty of options. Advance users may want to flash different firmware and/or bootloader (Hboot), change the device's region or IDs, remove "Tampered" from the Hboot screen, etc. and that requires S-off. Not really needed to make your device run smoothly but it's cool to have these extra options, even though there's added risk. Maybe someone will find an exploit to enable s-off in the 1.54 Hboot soon.
Thanks for the detailed information much appreciated

I realised that I took a nandroid backup of the original firmware, so I have been successful in returning to stock.
When I boot to the bootloader, I see TAMPERED AND UNLOCKED. I guess this is to to a custom recovery and also unlocked bootloader. Any ideas how I can get this back to normal? Am I then back to stock fully?

There is NO way for you to remove the tampered flag or change relocked to locked if you are on Hboot 1.54, no S-Off available which is what you need. If you are on a lower Hboot then you can S-Off and remove the flag and return to 100% stock.
There are also NO 2.24 RUU's so don't bother trying to find one.
It amuses me that somebody would never buy another HTC phone because they don't know what to do. Other phones can be unlocked , rooted, flashed, by pure noobs who don't know what they're doing. The One requires you to learn a little and do some reading to know what to do, when you've done that you'll find it isn't hard at all.
Why are you so desperate to go back to stock? If you just want the stock experience, flash a stock rom.
If you're trying to hide the fact that you rooted and unlocked in order to return/sell it, you can't really complain that you're having problems trying to deceive people. Sorry.
Had either of you done any research and reading prior to rooting, your problems would have been apparent.

Try a factory reset, but don't use the backup to restore settings. It might be a hassle, but it should uninstall SU, and if you don't restore those settings, it should be unrooted. Just go to play store and reinstall the apps you had before. They should be saved under your account. I hope this helps.
Edit: Another possibility would be to install an all in one toolkit, and have that unroot the phone for you. I'm not 100% sure it would work with 1.54, though. There are two good ones here and here.
Edit: Yet another possibility would be to flash hboot 1.44 and then run the RUU again.
Edit: Finally, have you tried unrooting through the SU app itself?

If your phone was 2.24 out of the box and you never went s-off, you don't need a ruu because your firmware would not have changed. So you just need to restore stock recovery and stock system files, then relock. Flash a stock rom, flash stock recovery in fastboot, and unroot through the superuser app. Then relock in fastboot.
The AIO toolkits will not help with relocked and tampered on 1.54 because they require s-off, which is not available on that hboot. Also, factory reset won't unroot you; it may remove the superuser.apk but will not remove root access.

Who's flaming and complaining, and I did help ... I wouldn't help you now but that's another story. As for noobs, If you can't be bothered to read and search then that says something about you. For starters, even though you were wrong (and not the OP) I did help, I have also spent more time helping on here than I have posting anything else, so if you don't like it, you know what you can do.
You might want to give correct advice aswell, if he's on Hboot 1.54 then he'd need S-Off to flash an older Hboot, which he cannot do. Thanks

stuck recovery when you mean that ''fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'' pulled from nandroid back up ? yes ur right i manged to do that it was succesful but no change even a systim rom is not available getting signature failure 'seems promising yah
i know my thing is hard but it shouldnt be like that right im runing a rom now 4.3 im fine with it but i really want to F*** htcdev members :v
I mean stock recovery, which you can pull from the firmware file for your phone. Find the recovery.img file in the zip and use that.
Stop trying to flash ruus and firmware packages in fastboot; you may screw up your phone doing it.
Just get a stock rom that correspond to the firmware package from the development forum and flash in custom recovery. Then flash the stock recovery in fastboot. Once that's done, you should be able to get OTAs.

[Q] 4.3 Sprint RUU

Hi, I was wondering if there was going to be an RUU for 4.03.651.2 firmware. I tried to take the update with an outdated version of TWRP, and I would like to go back to stock and reroot. I have tried and failed to gain S-Off with Revone and moonshine. I am unsure of what to do. My phone is not recognized by ADB in recovery, so I cannot use the S-Off workaround to flash an old RUU. Any suggestions/responses are appreciated.
Thanks,

Hmm... I just assumed that there wouldn't be an RUU for 1.31. Do you know of any way to gain S-Off so that I can flash the 1.29 RUU?
RUU
This can be very frustrating, I know.
I used Moonshine to achieve S-OFF, yesterday. Reason was because I managed to delete almost everything, I still don't know exactly what happened. However, if I remember correctly, you need S-On in order to run a stock RUU. There are several threads that pretty much will walk you thru the steps needed to flash the RUU. I was on them yesterday.
Good luck.

You don't need S-Off or S-On to run the RUU, but the bootloader has to be locked (or relocked). Believe that I read that HTC was going to not release RUUs any more because they didn't want others to tear them apart, etc. But don't quote me on that one...
From my understanding, S-Off is required to flash an RUU for a firmware version that does not match the version you are currently on. Could you please refer me to one of these threads? I would appreciate it very much.

I've also heard the same however how can I gain S-Off without mounting the internal storage? Or ADB? I can't get either to work.

I believe that if you have a custom recovery installed, you can use the workaround by accessing the terminal from the recovery, type the command, and then lock the bootloader. I am not completely sure on that, though.
If your on 4.3 there is no RUU and no s-off exploit at this time. This is why it's always recommended to root/s-off before you update.

you can download naked drivers for htc one http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachd...river_0.72.zip but first delate/uninstal all htc/syn drivers
and jus push any 4.3 rooted rom to your phone and install g-luck

It isn't wasted. It does compatibility checks before it does anything. Most important thing is to have stock kernel for it to work

It worked :victory:
Now I am getting no signal.
I changed the CID to 11111111 and flashed a Bell Mobility Nandroid Backup since I intend on using it on Bell... the damned thing doesn't get signal...
Try flashing a newer firmware?
[Guide] HTC ONE Hboot 1.57 Root S-Off Change CID Downgrade Hboot & OS
Search the above phrase on google. The first result should be from the site forums(dot)gsmhosting(com) with the title same as search.
I am a new user so I can't post external links.
I used that guide to achieve S-Off on my HTC One M7 UL with Hboot v. 1.57.
I had to run the final firewater commands several times before firewater launched finally. Enough tries to make me memorize those commands so I stopped copying and pasting them and instead actually typing them. But it worked for me.
I hope it helps.

Thank you but, I did achieve S-OFF already without downgrading and firewater using Sunshine. My problem now is not getting signal only Emergency Calls

Have you checked settings to see what network mode is checked? Check each one separately to see which one gives the best results. Auto generally works best! Did you have a GSM or CDMA phone?

[Q] S OFF Help please

I am rooted unlocked. I have tried to get s off using revone and it failed. I have the M7 with HBOOT 1.57 and software 5.03.651.3, sense 6. I can not find a method to gain S OFF for this setup. Can someone tell me if there is a way?
I also cannot install xposed frame work following the instructions for the HTC One apk and .zip.
Am I alone or are others having the same issues?
TIA

I think firewater will work with a custom kernel
as far as xposed it should work ok. I've been using it right along but I have an engineered bootloader.shouldn't make any difference
you install xposed framework as an apk, not a zip, install the apk like any other apk then install the framework from within the apk and reboot to activate

@Aldo101t I think it'll work if you flash CM11.
EDIT: Not 100% sure though, but I'll read around and see what I can find. If I remember correctly, firewater uses a kernel exploit so it does depend on what ROM you use. Kangaroo Kernel for example, since it uses the newest stuff is not supported by firewater.
EDIT2: Got some proof to back my claim.

I let it sit there for 30 minutes, despite the 2 minute warning, and it didn't do anything. I have the exact same HBOOT as OP. Not sure what to do.

I finally got it, here is what I did and used in hopes it will help OP:
First, I was stuck at the white HTC Logo thing, and that was cause I was missing the radio somehow. I got the latest from here and flashed it in recovery.
Then I flashed this ROM.
Then I flashed this Kernel. <-- Important!
Then follow the firewater instructions, and it should work first time.
Let me know if you need help, OP, I might be able to help.

Thanks for confirming that you can get s off- But I do not want to put a custom rom or kernel on, hard to believe this is the only way to get S off with HB 1.57
Curious though- does firewater or any other methods allow you to turn it back to S on and remove the *TAMPERED* flag like revone does?
Also the kernel you posted says its for JB roms- I have KK.
What if?

Would creating a twrp backup of my stock rom and kernel, then installing a custom kernel to use firewater for S OFF, Could I return to the stock kernel via TWRP and would the phone remain in S OFF?

Yes Just be careful not to wipe your SD card (or copy it to your computer to be sure)
Finally something works!

Pew, I wish I had stumbled across your thread much earlier! I have been attempting to S-off my Sprint M7 for three days with no luck on a ridiculous number of combinations! Your method outlined above was the first one to work and it took no time at all! Thanks for being a lifesaver bud. :good::good:

No problem! I had just as much trouble as you did, nothing was working, but finally some combination did the trick. I hope this keeps helping people in the future.
This unfortunately did not work for me (same boat).
