Droid 3 SIM - Motorola Droid 3

I'll be getting a Droid 3 soon, but I won't be using it as a phone, I'm just replacing my IPod. but I was curious, will I need a sim card for what I want to do? all I'll be doing is using emulators, the web browser, and I want amazon mp3. I have absolutely no intention of using 3g ever, More than likley I'll also be rooting it also

Don't need a sim card, it will work fine without

For just wifi nope. You could root it, get the 883 radio and unlock the SIM and get the 5GB or 200 free MB plan from T-Mobile and take data with you.

Apparently they now carry 4G SIM cards to allow access to their LTE network (see here). The details are a little sketchy, though, and I wouldn't bank on it working.
If you're really interested in doing this, I would suggest going directly to a Verizon store and speaking with someone there. Maybe even see if they'll let you test it out (probably not, but it can't hurt to ask).
The only other Verizon sim cards I found were international ones that allowed roaming on Vodafone's network. Since Verizon in the US uses CDMA for its non-4G network, SIM cards don't work. With a non-4G SIM card you would end up piggybacking on some other carrier's network.
That's my understanding, anyway.
Okay I have a droid incredible 2 it got damaged but it has a sim card its not 4g either so yeah

That's one of the international sim cards, which basically just lets it hop on GSM networks internationally when it doesn't have Verizon's US CDMA network.
So you mean its not possible

I can't say for certain. You would need to talk to someone at Verizon and ask them if their international GSM sim cards work here in the states.
My guess is that they'll tell you it will work, but since you would be essentially roaming all the time you're using it, it would be either costly or they wouldn't do it. Again, I'm not a Verizon employee, so I can't say that's 100% accurate, but that's my gut reaction.
Yeah ok makes sence my incredible 2 can only go into safe mode thats why I ask this

Have you tried putting the sim card on your captivate to see what happens?
Yes but verizon is so protective you have to have them activate it through the phones imei

Unfortunately verizon does not like you to be able to use at&t on there global phones so afaik there's no way to make it work.

Stupid question

Getting my droid 3 from ebay tomorrow. Do i need a sim if im just using it in u.s.?
It isn't the question but the way its asked.
That depends on what you intend to do with it. For most users, no.
No I have my global sim card out and it does not require a 4g sim either because... well because its not 4g.

That's not a stupid question. You need a sim card to use it in the US as well.

This is a Verizon phone and Verizon has never used sim cards because they are CDMA. The sim card slot is for GSM signals in other countries, since US based GSM providers like at&t and t-mobile are blocked on this.
Thanks for the replies. It came with one....but as I found out, its not needed for U.S. operation. BTW....loving the phone(even without root).

LG rev cdma

is it possible to run this phone in cdma with out Simcard ? if so please tell me how
thank you
Why would you want to? Verizon literally gives SIM cards out for free.
I do not believe you can though because even when I had it on just CDMA mode it still required a SIM card and it kept giving me the card error in my status bar.

[Q] Use this phone without SIM card?

Is it possible to use this phone without a SIM card, like a wifi only device? There is not doubt that i will change phones eventually and i do not just want to leave it in my drawer and by the time i change my phone the value of my ahd will probably not be worth selling
Yes you can use it without a Sim card to surf the web, download apps, listen to music. Only thing a Sim card does is let's you make calls and text.

Yeah you could even make text and calls through apps that use the Internet to do such things.

So you can just take the SIM card out and that's it?

Switching phones on Verizon website

I have a gnex with unlimited data, and just bought a Dev edition and I want to keep my unlimited data. So if I use verizons website and go to activate or switch device, will I be able to keep my unlimited data?
I just don't want to f*ck up when I use the website
Has anyone used the website to do this, and did it work?

If you're just switching devices you should be able to do it without losing your data plan. I did it many times when I was using VZW. However, you shouldn't need the web site if your phones are LTE. Just move the SIM to the new phone.

GNex uses Micro Sim while Moto X uses nano, so OP needs to cut the micro Sim or go get a nano Sim.

When i ordered the phone it said sim card included
I don't want to cut the card in case the Moto x ever breaks or whatever, so I can have a backup phone
So I guess I'll give the website a try

Website works fine, or just go into Verizon and tell them you want to change your phone. Did it at a store when I purchased my old Gnex off someone.
I switched mine on the Verizon website in about 2 minutes. You will need to use the SIM tool so you can pop your new nano-SIM out of your phone and read the number off it.
Unlimited data stays.
