[MOD] [NEXUS 5] Dalvik+bionic library optimization - Flashable - Nexus 5 General

"We now have Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik libraries thanks to recent Moto X 4.4 release."
I found this in the Nexus 4 forums. It improves benchmarks and in most cases makes the phone seem smoother. Enjoy.
I've compiled libraries from several devices and linked them in post #3.
Flash in recovery. Completely undo-able, no partition wipe occurs when flashing.
What does this do?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47913987
THIS THREAD IS FOR NEXUS 5
DO NOT ASK ABOUT OTHER DEVICES
Which Dalvik works on which ROM and why
Regarding CM11 Themes and Paranoid Android
TO UNDO:
- Flash the stock file for your device located at the bottom of 2nd post. Choose your build number.
or
- Reflash system partition.
Don't forget to hit thanks! I am not responsible for any damage to your device, you know the drill.
Please do not post benchmarks. It clusters the thread and does not reflect real world user experience.
Take your benchmarks here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506965 and make sure to send em back to this thread when they're amazed at your scores!
Special thanks: @Elluel

Does this actually help performance or just boost quadrant scores?

Just to clarify, in the OP you link to, it says to NOT use on an odex ROM yet you say you are odex. I missing something?

I'm assuming they didn't pull it from the Moto X just for scores, though I'm still testing for myself. I can say it feels noticeably quicker.
I'll need more time for long term results.

No you read it correctly. It warns against using Odex however in the original thread numerous people on both N4 and 5 are having success on Odex including myself.

Anybody else using on odexed want to chime in, good, bad? Don't really want to flash deodex.

It actually helps with performance with no extra battery drain seen. I have ran this for a week so far and its running like a champ. I can say from personal experience before the patch I would run Maps, BT, Soundcloud, using Hangouts at the same time and would have slight lag when going through notifications. Now grant it was not that bad but more of a personal annoyance in general. Since the patch flash I have not had one single "lag" moment and I can run what I need with no ill effect. Just nan and flash and I promise you will not regret it.

OK guys. You're right. This is more than just placebo. I can definitely see a difference.

will this work on flo also?

I'm using this since yesterday on Cataclysm + Stock kernel and I got to say it feels really fast. No issues so far. Also it scores pretty high on benchmarks

So far so good. Camera app loads noticeably faster.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 4

no issues so far..dalvik scores on antutu have nearly doubled. quadrant scores doubled. feels smooth as ever though. will continue testing

just flashed this using beer gang & faux kernel 002 i'll report back in a little with my impressions

Assuming deodex and not running ART, any reason NOT to flash this?

Not yet at least.
sent from my Nexus 5

Just flashed this earlier today and went from 12xxx Quadrant scores to 20xxx or better. Also 35xxx AnTuTu. Awesome find.
I'm curious to try this on an ODEX ROM now that there are reports of it working.

I flashed this earlier on SlimKat(deodexed) and I odexed the ROM afterwards. My phone hasn't felt smoother yet.

Running cata + franco + dalvik mod
Getting 18k-19k Quadrant scores and 33k+ Antutu scores.
The 3d Antutu bench hits 55+ fps where before it would hit 40 so there is definately some improvement going on.

Kernel & ROMs benchmarks Updated 06.12.13

Hello everyone!
We all are interested in the question, what ROM most productive and the most energy-efficient? what kernel is best to install?
I decided to try to answer this question.
Each ROM and kernel will pass 2 tests: benchmarks, and 2 days of daily use.
All results will be available on the site http://okay-google.com/, where I will describe in detail about testing.
In this topic, you can ask the kernel or ROM to test. Be abreast of the project.

Considering I don't play games or listen to music on phone no more, I suppose I would achieve 5+ hours of OST easily on Franco Kernel (if I install it).
What ROM are u using, by the way? What is your complete set up right now, while testing franco?
And @andr4e, I want to ask one thing, what speciality does these custom kernels have, in comparison to the stock kernel, that they help u achieve 5 or even 6 hours of OST (which on stock I hardly get 4 hours)?
I think so, in my opinion you can expect for 2 days of use.
I am using full stock 4.4 ROM without any mods. While testing franco I don't change anything in kernel.
I'm no expert, but I think that in the custom kernel cut all unnecessary code, power consumption better configured. Disabling the cores at low load)

AOSP based kernel and tested on stock rom
I have a dream: a dream that one day, a developer, even someone new to the game, will come along and make an optimized stock kernel, i.e. a kernel with stock mpdecision, but with various optimizations that make it faster. I have high hopes for this kernel, please make my dream come true. Don't make another frankenstein-kernel.
i will test your build and report back.
Updated to v0.0.5
Changes;
- KGSL updates
- Reworked at L2 bus speed optimizations (more responsive now)
- Power efficient workqueue patch
- Simple GPU governor added / enabled by default
- GPU undervolt a little bit to reduce heat
Please test If you interest and let me know.
Thanks,

These are my first cycle results with version 0.0.1 and stock rom. I am gladly impressed.
Not hooked to any wifi APs just 3G.

Hi,
I am not playing any GPU intensive games. Thank you for the tip about Flashify Will report back with v5 results.
Hi there!
These are my results with v5, not hooked to any APs just 3G. As you can see SOT has gone down and i am pretty sure the use i gave to the phone was the same as when i had v1.
I am going back to v1 to see if my previous results stand.

I think the reason of this, highest L2 speed for 1026Mhz which is touch boost freq. I just decreased a bit for 1026Mhz.(in v11) Performance is in between v1 and v5 but battery stays much longer like v1.
v11;
- L2 bus speed decreased for 1026Mhz for better battery life
- Synced with Linux 3.4.85
Thanks,
hello @ihancioglu.. if its not a bother could u please provide future versions with any-kernel updater for us custom rom users, as some roms have some modifications in the ramdisk which would be removed by flashing the boot.img.
thanks
Hello!
Using v11 i got some random reboots. It also happened with the other versions but only at the end of the battery cycle and so i thought it was due to the battery finishing even though the indicator still showed 4% or the like. This time the reboots happened pretty often.

Hi my friend,
Thanks for your reports!
I also realize some random reboots with v11 which causes a bug on slub.c.
I don't have much time for now. So I created a new version with Mirage backend. This is completely stable. You can use it safely.
I will continue my project as soon as have free time.

The default mpdecision is the worst inefficient/bloated code I would like to have in such an optimized kernel. That is why I have removed it along with touchboost, dcvs, run_queue_stats. I have developed MiRaGe with the same mindset you describe: optimized stock kernel.
Can I request f2fs support? Patches are linked here.

I think this may be the rom that will hit over the 3k barrier. at the moment hitting constant 29XX mark in quadrant even with first 3D test staying on avg between 40-60FPS, 38-44FPS 2nd 3D and 23-25FPS on last 3D.
My Setup

Runtime: Art
CPU Freq: 1.4Ghz 1.2mV
Govener: Ondemand
I/O Sch: SiO
Additional Tweaks
Malive Booster v2.0
Flashable Seeder by ryu found in seeder op
Hyper Cola v1.6
Once again , Thanks @jfbs for another treat.
To others who are curious, this rom is stacked feature wise, responsive and impressive
Flashed this earlier today and I agree with @det0xx, this ROM has some great customization features and is very responsive!
I've only noticed a few bugs here and there (long pressing location tile doesn't navigate to location menu, needed to re-check and then un-check to disable flip tile effect, unable to remove torch tile), but nothing major. Overall, this is one impressive ROM! Great job @jfbs!
One bug I have is the lockscreen wallpaper disappears and stays black. Did a fresh install, not a major issue, just wanted to report it. Thanks for the rom, really nice.

odd i haven't got that issue or at least not yet. Mind giving more feedback as to
Gapps used/using: List all the ones you have tried only that has this issue. CM, PA, Banks, and/or etc. vers such as 4.4.2 -.4 and build date.
Theme: default or 3rd party if 3rd party link or name of theme
Wallpaper: used gallery or 3rd party app to set it.
Runtime: Art or dalvik
Gapps: banks standard 4.4.4 7-24 build, standard theme. Wallpaper set through gallery, dalvik runtime. The problem seems to come and go. I'm not really concerned with it as at the moment I'm using this device as a media player. If nobody else is having the issue maybe I messed something up when adjusting my settings. When I have the chance I will see if I can sort it out.

Sorry for the delayed reply been tweaking to hit a constant and stable 3k benchmark. at 2950-98 atm for constant and stable. i've hit 3k just recently however phone becomes unstable. if your phone can handle 1.5ghz oc without problems then the 3k is already possible but battery life i'd assume would drop quite a bit. i've also hit unstable 3k using 1.4ghz and tweaking some settings but haven't messed with it much yet. anyways as far as your issue. yeah it has me stumped without physically seeing everything. If your not worried about and at least to my knowledge no one else is having the same issue. let us know if you do figure out what it is that is causing it.
I got my issue resolved. I'm not sure what caused it, but I fixed it by re-flashing the rom.

prolly just flashed without wiping davlik and not 1 zip at a time per a reboot.
I used this ROM on my s4, it is a really nice ROM. Think I will pull out the exhibit and give it a try.
Well this rom is awesome.
And I finally figured out what I did wrong when trying jfbs's roms. It turns out I was not always loading just one zip at a time, and not leaving it alone long enough after booting the rom.
This time I left it be but with the settings screen on and CPU overlay enabled in developer options so I could tell when it finally stopped thrashing the IO subsystem in the phone (over 90% usage in the overlay, showed blue for a good 20 minutes).
So far so good! Been running it now for a day and no major issues.
Though one niggling thing is no way to adjust the hard buttons back light. I prefer to have it always on with the screen instead of timing out after 5 seconds.

if you really want to get the most follow my oc guide in general op. Note battery life decreases past stock voltage. however higher frequency does not. i would also recommend waiting til you try the phone for a little bit before overclocking. however if you want better battery life and lower cpu temps now without sacrificing performance you can always undervolt the cpu for stock frequency. Stock if i remember correctly is 1ghz at 1.2mV i know almost if not everyone using the galaxy w (which is where most of our stuff comes from) can run 1ghz at 1.1mV as far as i know all our exhibits can as well. I could be wrong but at least from others and my own experience 1.1mV works flawlessly for 1ghz. as far as flashing a kernel to do it with jfbs roms you dont need to flash anything with cars1198's roms you do. Also i would not recommend starting at 1.1mV as a starting point.
EDIT: @jfbs so been running this rom for some time now and i can honestly say this beats AOIP by a long shot now. rock solid, still constant 29xx .8%hr sleep, 24%hr (max 4hr15mins) at stress test usage oc'd at 1.4ghz @ 1.2mV. No rom/kernel sided bugs encountered.

Is it just an improvement over 5.0, or is it also running better than KitKat?
I seems to be running smoother to me coming from a custom 5.0.1 rom. I rooted and flashed with NRT then flashed MKernel. Getting a first benchmark of 21,600 so I'm happy with that. The camera app is with this update so that's a plus as well.

Just upgraded from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2. Perhaps it is too early to tell since no apps are installed yet, but I "feel" little smoother than before.
Wugs toolkit
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I flashed it as well and it is way better than 5.0. Not laggy at all.
What is the easiest way to flash a stock image on a non rooted N7 ?
Camera app? Nope, no stock camera app. But at least the ROM is indeed smoother than 5.0/5.0.1. I can't compare to 4.4.x since on mine it was laggy as hell. Then again, I didn't bother tinkering with different kernels and such.
According to the front XDA page it fixes fstrim, so we should see some difference in performance on the long run.
This is SO much better than 5.0... I can actually use my tablet now. I don't have to wait 30 seconds for my touch input to register...
Feels about as fast as Kitkat was. Kitkat was pretty smooth for me, so this seems pretty good to me as well.
It seems like google fixed the NAND and fstrim issues with 5.0.2 according to the front page [emoji106]
No improvement for me
I updated with fastboot (leaving userdata). Chrome takes 30 seconds to open
Has anyone rooted 5.0.2?
Did anyone actually get this pushed OTA, or is everyone flashing?

Follow these instructions.
Any idea on how to root this? Wug toolkit stops at 5.0.0, would it work anyway?
Btw the device result slighty faster, but not as fast as kitkat was. Still pretty unusable if you ask me.

Can someone recommend a Stock like rom but not CM?

I would like to change the date to be centered and expand the power off screen to include reboot to name a few.
I am looking for a rom that will be very close to stock with a few mods.
Thanks so much!

terminus. its aosp based, not cm based.
Thanks! Can I flash this even though my build number is LRX22C and the termius is LRX22G? I am also on stock 5.0.1 and this is 5.0.2.
Thanks so much!

absolutely. if youre on a aosp based rom, you can even try a dirty flaah(not wiping anything. but make a backup in recovery first, just in case. if your on a stock or cm based rom, you will have wipe data(factory reset) first
edit.. just read, youre on stock. so, in recovery before you flash this rom(+gapps, +supersu), you will have to wipe data(factory reset)(nothing else) first. dont wipe whats in your storage!
You could also try this

Sinless is a stock based ROM with the mods your looking for. I've used it since day one. I'm not really asop guy since there tends to be bugs. But to each their own.
Chroma rom. Contains what you need, nothing more and nothing less. Lightweight and stable.

I would highly recommend Chroma
Using Chroma since a while now. It's solid. Go for it.

I haven't seen you in the thread lately! Seen you posting in the Franco Kernel thread often though.
I have some secrets up my sleeve to celebrate being the 2nd most replied thread and 3rd most viewed thread in N6 Android Development forums while celebrating the one-month anniversary of the ROM release

Well I am having zero issues with Chroma and am hoping that sensor_ind gets killed and burned.
Hence being there more often.
Well I know one of the secret is the official Chroma theme

Chroma Rom has the highest Benchmark so far right after flash.

Psssh, that's not what I wanted to hear I want people to come back even if there aren't any bugs. Sensor_ind is on the kernel level, try Franco's test kernel. I also updated modified to r14.1 which stops sensor_ind (using Imoseyon's patches)

Yeah, I am on his test kernel. Have disabled both msm_hsic_host and sensor_ind already.
