Hi,
I bought an Nook HD 8GB from ebay. I can turn it on. But the screen is solid blue. I tried to do hard reset but nothing.
Any idea on what is going on?
Thank you

Power and home is not a hard reset. That is supposed to boot you into stock recovery. Try holding the power button alone for like 15 seconds. That will totally power you off.
Hardware issue such as a bad chip or display device.

Had the same problem on my HD+. Hold down the n and the power button for 30 seconds or so and it will ask if you want to perform a factory reset. Hit power button to cancel and it should reboot just fine

Today I noticed that the power button does not work because when I can not unlock, but to remove and replace the battery automatically turns on what I'm thinking is that the power button got stuck
any idea?
Going to need alot more info. Where you running stock or custom rom?
Sent from my Captivate using XDA Premium App
im not running a rom, i stay in stock rom.
all started when I received a text message and read the message, when I wanted to block it and not work the power button. I have noticed that sometimes it works with a few strokes with my fingers but it shows me if I turn off the phone. I believe that the power button is stuck
Sounds like a warranty exchange

sometimes with few little strokes xD
when I put the battery automatically turns on, but if I keep pressing the 3 buttons combo I can enter recovery mode, but don't works power button in this mode =/
I'd try an clean around the button and if that works
I am not sure thus will do anything but if you can't get your phone running at all you can try to Odin flash stock to see if maybe it clears the problem. If you cab get into recovery then the power button works for something

Inzombie, what exactly did you do? I have been having the same problem for quite some time...I was able to get into download mode using a program I found on the internet, and I flashed back to stock but the power button is still messed up, it doesn't work at all. What exactly did you do
i know this is an old topic but I have the same problem. I got this phone from a friend and now I cant use the power button. I have taken it apart twice now trying to fix it with no luck. I know it isnt the rom. The button is "stuck" but it still clicks. I know it is stuck because it will never turn off. Once battery is in it turns on, and for 3 button recovery, I only need to hold the vol rocker.
I'm new here so I don't know if this has been posted before,
I opened up my nexus 7 to find the buttons on the right side, (from L to R Power, Vol up, Vol down) but there is also a fourth button labelled "Key 4" does anyone know what this was intended for?
for those who haven't taken it apart, its location is below the volume down on the right side, there is a small circle that stands out from the rest of the design.
Reset.

I have pressed, and held the button, It doesn't do anything that I'm aware of.
And holding down the power key is reset on android...
It's for factory use.

Was wondering what this was, Thanks!
If you look on the nexus 7 guidebook it shows that hole on the designs but doesn't label it.

I guess so, Is it possible to add functionality, like a dedicated camera key :silly:
I come to you all with a slight problem. I own a rooted Incredible 2 device and I'm doing great. My friend, however, owns a Droid 4. She went from an Envy3 to a brand-spankin'-new smartphone. She came to me for help since I pretend to know what I'm talking about.
Now the problem she's having is that sometimes when she turns her phone on, the backlight come on and the softkey lights come on, but the phone doesn't boot up. I've played with it a bit and after doing to reset method (hold down power + vol down) and it works every now and again but most of the time it does not work.
I'm hoping you guys can diagnose and help me out. Thanks!
I imagine you've already checked, but just in case and because the most obvious things tend to sometimes slip our minds...the battery is charged, right? If it shuts back down before fully booting, that could be it. If it just sits there partially booted, idk. Also, plugged in or not plugged in when this happens?

Haha, yes. I was going to add that in the original post but I thought it was too obvious. Uh, it might be partially booted? It's just the backlight and softkeys that are lit up.
Stock d4?... rooted... ? If stock I'm guessing you tried the basics like safe mode (hold "OK" button from moto dual core screen till it says safe mode...) FDR... FDR and safe mode without SD card... ? When booting or the attempt to boot where does it stop? Do you see the dual core screen... the DROID eye... can you get into the recovery menu?

I flashed ElementalX (been a long time since I've OC'd) and now I can't get past the HTC screen. I hold down the power button and it just blinks to no end. This is why I like removable batteries. Do I have to wait until it dies or what?
Try holding down vol down then power let it blink until it reboots

Did that and let it blink over 100 times (counted). Nothing.

Can't believe that actually worked. Someone on Reddit told me to so I did. I thought that was for people who had problems in a call or something...
Thank you.

try holding down the power button until the home and back button flash 15 times then let go of the power button, then press and hold the power button again and wait for the home and back button to flash again and it should shut the phone off. then you can hold the power and vol. down to boot into recovery. this happened to me and thats what worked for me. hope this helps

My understanding is that sometimes, the light sensor gets tricked into thinking the phone is in a pocket/covered and locks the screen off as a result. Seems a little odd, but then again I've never had this kind of issue with any other device I've owned, and it seems reasonable enough to believe.
Is Elemental a Sense-based kernel though? This issue has mainly been cropping up on AOSP ROMs/kernels (which forced me to revert to a Sense 4.1 ROM. )

wow i can't believe that did it, thank you! thought i was screwed. tried all combinations of holding power/vol+/vol-... whispering pleadingly to it... sure enough holding the #$%^& thing up to a bright light and vol- plus power did the trick. :good:
I installed cm-10.1.3-ovation on a Nook HD+ for a friend of mine.
It work for some month.
Now the Nook HD+ does not boot any more. It turns and there is jut a ligth glow in the LCD. Moreover it seems not to boot a freshly initialized
SD-card (NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13)).
Any idea to the Nook back to live?

Are you sure the battery is charged (using the stock charging cable and block)? Also make sure it is totally powered off by holding the power key for several seconds.

What I was suggesting was that the device was stuck in an on but screen off position and drained. That is why I asked if you hard powered off, charged and tried again.
