Home key actions? - Moto X Q&A

Hey all-
Long time lurker, first time poster. I notice when I'm on my main homescreen and I then tap Home, I get a lil popup that says "App isn't installed." Anybody know what this is all about? Can the Home key be configured to do something else? I had my old Droid 4 set to open Browser when double-tapping Home, that was sweet.
I'm running 4.4, but the same thing happened on 4.2.2. Using Nova Launcher.

In RAZR we could configure the double tap home launch app through
*Settings->Accessibility->Double tap home launch (last option)*
Hope it's the same with X.

Doesn't appear as though that option carried over from the D4/RAZR. Still have no idea what's going on with this "App isn't installed" message when I tap Home (when already on the primary Home screen)...

[Q] exiting "app info" screen

I have noticed that when using certain apps (ES File Explorer and Avast! being two examples) that if I enter an "app info" screen from these apps it opens in full screen with no apparent method to exit the screen short of returning to home. Am I missing some gesture? Entering "app info" from default "settings" allows me to back out - but no such option exists in these cases. What is more if I do go to home then restart the guilty app using a shortcut it puts me back to my last location for that app, which of course is stuck in the "app info" screen.
edit: Forgot I'm using Nova launcher
Me to, why does that matter?

My particular problem was that I would enter the info screen through a misclick, attempt to return to the previous screen, use home to access desktop then end up back inside the same (dead end) info page when I attempted to reopen explorer through the desktop. As a novice to tablet interfaces I found this circular dance at best, unintuitive.

There is a solution. But you have to install an app. It is GMD Gesture Control Lite. It is free but sometimes nags you to buy the full version. I found out about it because another user wanted to hide the status/navigation bars. The app adds the ability to add finger swipe gestures for specific actions. One swipe that comes with the free version is back. So with that installed, just give the pre-defined swipe action and it goes back. And if you buy the full version it adds the swipe to hide or show the status/nav bar. So, if you give it that swipe, the back bar appears. I found I had trouble with the multi-touch tablet swipes, so I configured it for phone so it only took single touch swipes.
I could see where that app would be handy in a lot of situations. I am going to keep it installed. May even recommend it in my tips thread.

I tried that out but couldn't get consistent behaviour from it. More often than not a gesture wouldn't register.
Ok misunderstood your problem. Yes I've seen that too. Have to kill the app in manage apps

[Q] Loss of menu buttons?

Every now and then I keep getting no response when trying to nagivate the screen as the HOME, BACK and BOOKMARK buttons are no longer on the screen leaving me to restart the kindle.
Anyone experience this and know how to fix?
Sorry, it's not the menu buttons its the option buttons that appear at the bottom.
The only bypass has been to install an app called fullscreen
I've heard that happening because Gmail was installed. Not sure though

No that's the notification bar gmail affects,
Did you freeze some stuff by chance? Try going into the kfhd 7 general thread that deals with the bottom bar they've made some modded ones, perhaps yours just got corrupted

Multi window shortcut?

I rooted my phone and am wondering if there is a way to create a shortcut on my home page to launch the two apps quickly. I couldn't find anything online.

Use 2 fingers to drag from the top of the screen and you can see the multi window on/off

I think the OP means launching 2 apps at the same time, not the quick toggle. There's nothing out there that I know of for that.
You can do it with an app that supports shortcuts (i.e. Nova Launcher, Tasker, GMD Gesture Control, etc).
Thanks. I use Nova launcher, so I will see if I get it to work.

For some reason I don't see the option for windowed shortcut for 1 or 2 apps.
It just doesn't exist.

[Q] Apex select screen on watch on

I installed the latest version of null and all is almost good except for one annoying problem.
When I left up my hand to look at the watch it turns on ok but it shows me the apex launcher select screen to go to.
What is wrong how can I fix this behavior?
You need to change settings in apex. Do a search and you'll find the answer

Home button long press

I'm running a stock based Rom, firekat I believe.
my issue is when long pressing the home key I get 3 options, Google, greenify, nothing. There is no option to choose a default action.
Second party to this is that I do not have the default app choice option when clicking an icon as there was in previous versions.
Can anyone clear this up?

I don't know what the options are if you use Touchwiz, I don't. I use Apex and change the behavior of longpress in Apex settings. I'm also on Firekat V7.
I'm using wanam but it won't change the home key default

Nova launcher will let you set any action for it. (I think most launchers will do this too)
