I restarted my phone around 6pm and the boot image was a purple motorola m. Instead of the spinning motorola m globe, the boot animation was a mountain town with animals in houses. Each "globe spin" zoomed to a view through a window at different house with a different type of animal family. Something I hadn't seen before.
I restarted my phone twice since then and I just get the standard normal boot animation.
Is this old news or does motorola's 4.4 have contextual boot animations or something?

Odd, I haven't seen that yet.

Knew it. I must have been playing with the date setting on my phone and restarted it while it was set to December 9th.
Mine did the same thing, not changing with the dates. I flashed a new boot logo and animation, rebooted device and all was ok. Two reboot's later i got this purple M boot crap. find out its something "Motorola boot services" that can change the boot animation.... Anyhow Im no where near knowledgeable to dig around android as well as others but i dont know which app / service it is..
I cant post the link yet (not enough posts) but google "[New App] Motorola Boot Services App Brings A Festive Wintry Boot Animation To The Moto G" and it will come up
Its ignoring Androids normal location for the bootanimation.zip file. during boot it is using the bootanimation.zip file located in /data/local.
I switched that one out using root explorer to the one I want and all is well now.

apparently someone was able to locate the apk and the set values on it
Yeah I just got the purple M. That's why I just logged on to see if anyone else had seen this.

There was an R2D2 app but it has been taken off the market. I was wondering if anybody has the apk. I would also like to find a R2D2 Boot Animation, possibly with sound. Eventually I would like to have an R2D2 themed Droid Eris. Maybe someone should develop an R2D2 custom rom. I think if it was good, it would be successful.
I don't know about the app, but you can find the boot animation by following this link.

It's pretty sweet.
Thanks, Im bout to check it out
? So how do I go about getting these onto my phone... I have them downloaded just need to know what folder or folders to put them in and what to change in the script... thanks

I got everything to work, lwp, sounds, but not the bootscreen animation. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

The Bootscreen folder goes in the system/media folder. make sure you take out the bootanimation.zip out. I suggest buying root explorer so you don't have to hook up your phone to your computer to push it through. With Root Explorer, you can copy it there manually. The R2D2 bootscreen goes in a folder called bootscreen, not the bootanimation.zip. and you put the bootscreen folder in the system/media folder so make sure that is what you are doing.
Next time, let us know what you did so we can better help you. Its hard to tell what you are doing wrong when we dont know what you are doing.
There is already a folder in system/media for your ringtones. That is where the Eris stores the sounds it uses(ringtones, notifications). I definitely suggest buying root explorer so you can explore your Eris much easier.
i suggest using the first link for the boot animation since it has sound, while the boot animation for the r2d2 pack has no sound. I just downloaded the second link for the r2d2 pack, and the only thing i would use is the audio for notifications. just make sure u guys remember system/media because that is where u have to put the bootanimation.zip or the bootscreen folder at. u can also put the bootanimation.zip in data/local but i suggest system/media
I downloaded the pack yesterday. It has a "cute" little clock apk in it. I installed and the novelty wore off rather quickly. Still, if you're wanting to theme your Eris with R2D2/Starwars, it's kinda cool.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
I had my Eris themed with R2D2 by using the bootscreen with the sound. Then I used a wallpaper of R2D2 that I found and set the wallpaper not to scroll so R2D2 fills up the entire wallpaper. Then I downloaded a Starwars Soundboard and got the R2D2 sounds for my text message and email notifications(different sound for each one).
At the moment, I themed my Eris to being a Darth Vader theme since my silicone cover is black. My notifications are various versions of him breathing. I still need to find a bootscreen for Darth Vader, or make my own.
I still recommend buying Root Explorer to put files in their place over having to hook the phone up to the computer and pushing them through unless you really love working in the DOS environment.
Back to my original question, does anybody know where I can find the R2D2 apk that used to be on the market. R2D2 would make noise when you touched him or when you turned your phone.

Not sure about that one, but I'd like to see it!
Is this what you are looking for? I thought I had lost it, but I had copied it to a friend who still had it, yay!

A few have been asking about changing the logo or animation AFTER the Viewsonic logo (that Rothnic showed us how to change, thanks by the way)
Here is the one that I added about two hours before I even knew I could change the first logo. Im always looking for new things to play with. If you got a good one, drop it in!
You can ADB push the file but all I did was find another bootanimation.zip use root explorer to copy in the /system/media (of course I backed up the old one first) then rebooted.
Here is the animation I am using now, little Android guy with a spinning circle that I 'borrowed' from Eugenes Macnut13 release.
Nice
I pushed it ...and looks nice , lasts about @6 sec.
thanks
(adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media)

interesting... It last a bit longer on mine, 10 or so.
I have the same one on my phone as well that runs for a bit until the launcher is ready. The odd thing (similar but not) is that I have a shutdown animation on my phone that only lasts a couple seconds but I know the phone isn't fully off yet. It will actually vibrate when it's completely down and I cant turn it back on until I get that vibrating feedback; but the animation doesn't stay that long. The one it replaced lasted the full shutdown. Wonder what the timing mechanism is?
On zpad it appears to live in /logodata as opposed to /system/media and the directory is rw by default.

Hello,
quick question as noob. I have the Vegan gingerbread version. If I want to chage the bootimage, will it be the same process? From what I can gather, no need to nvlfash this thing, just a simple copy to /system/media? Am I correct?
Thank you!!
Hey. I downloaded the 4.4 kitkat bootloader thats floating around and tried to customise it.
I changed the "black" and "generic1" image files to white and added my name, saved them, rezipped them in "store" format and pushed it to my device.
It never worked the phone boots but instead of bootanimation it just stays black
can someone help me here?

Looks like a nice boot animation, I'll have a look at it for you.
Edit: It's working but only the last part of the boot animation shows, the white screen at the start doesn't show. Maybe someone else could shed some light on this.

Having this problem too, very strange
So, I'm a big sword art online fan. Wanted to see if anyone could make a boot animation like the one I've linked from my box account, to work with our phone (timeframe and resolution)?
TIA

This is easy. Take any of the N6 boot animations that exist in the N6 themes & apps. Take the desc.txt file from that boot animation. Switch it out with your example boot animation. Voila. It will be formatted to the right resolution for you

Do you still have this file? Id like to snag it as I too and a big SAO fan, thanks.
So its been a very long time since I last rooted and played with an android phone, until now. And it has been fairly easy going with this device. I don't really want to do much more or get crazy with theming etc... But I would love to see something nicer than the stock BLU boot animation...
As long as you are rooted you can download boot animations from the play store. Its worked fine for me.

Do I have to match the same resolution of the original or will it fit to screen? Also does the same process work for shutanimation.zip? And I assume bootaudio.mp3 and shutaudio.mp3 can also be replaced?? Thanks

Thanks, for helping answer those for me, i just read the following so I'll just try some premade ones out until I have time to come up with my own
"As a rule, a boot animation made for a lower resolution device will run fine on a high resolution one but it will be centered on the screen, with the extra screen space around it not being used. Using a high resolution boot animation on a low resolution device will result in the boot animation not fully displaying on the screen, with its outer parts being cut off due to being outside the screens bounds."
And this seems to be a good read on getting started on my own...
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/
Replacing both animations resulted in the boot animation being changed but the shutdown animation is still stock, so the software must be reading it from a different location.
You can brush a third party rom, or use software changes, you may need root privileges
