[Q] TWRP Recovery to CM - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have s3 mini. I wanted to flash 4.4 Kitkat on my phone. I needed to use TWRP recovery for that. So I removed ClockworkMod & installed TWRP.
Now,the problem is I have my stock rom(4.1.2) backed up using rom manager in ClockworkMod.
I tried installing ClockworkMod recovery using TWRP, but still TWRP recovery appears.
Is there anyway I can get ClockworkMod Back?
Plsss Help me guys!

I think you need to use the same version of cwm that you used to take the backup. Example, if you did a backup with cwm 6.0.2.7 you only can restore it with cwm 6.0.2.7 not work with 6.0.2.8, I think, got it!?!

I did the backup with 6.0.2.7. When I backup it says md5 dispatch. I have another backup saved in my computer. I copied it into the phone but no recogonized by rom manager. Is there any other way?

I meant when i restore it says md5 dispatch.

Or delete the checksum file so it will skip that

hello,
try this:
1. CWM flashes with your back up when you reboot freezes at startup because it finds the data folder or another (can not remember which) I think.
2. Then reboot into recovery again
3. flash back your backup again.

[Q] Help. Can't install CM7

Hi,
I'm trying to get out off the stock rom, but I just can't
What am I dooing wrong.. (No SD card is used)
1) install CWM 4.0.0.5 (Int)
2) nandroid backup
3) Mount USB, to get the backup on to the PC
4) Smartflash Baseband 0606
5) NVFLASH stock rom (just replacing the recovery with CWM 4.0.0.5)
6) boot into CWM
7) Wipe Data/factory, cache, dalvik
8) Install zip (CM_p990_full-50), have also tried build 43
9) Reboot
10 ) crying... everytime it starts with FC of LGE everything. (10-13 popups, and endless loop in LG.SetupWizard)
Yes, I know i'm a NOOB, but this just makes no sence to me...
Please advice....

Yes, and it seams to work.
Then I did a Backto ext3 from cwm, and then tryed wipe and install CM. but now noting happers, it says "installing" but nothing like "writing to ...." and after that I'm stuck on the LG logo on an reboot.
Can't even restore back to my old rom....
so back to an NVFLASH for me and a restore...
Anyone.... Please HELP....
OK, that's proper weird.
From memory (and it's not that great as I'm on the Amigos) you wont see much other than 'installing..." when flashing CM, so wouldn't worry about that.
Did you do anything in recovery before applying the back to EXT3 patch? If so it might not have worked, as it needs /system and /data to be unmounted (found that one out for myself lol)
i had the same issue, try to reflash original cwm from ROM manager and youll be able to install cm7

I've no idea what you are doing. But I'm pretty sure there isn't supposed to be any "LG.SetupWizard" in CM7.
^ What he said. There is a SetupWizard.apk and an LGEServices.apk but no LG.SetupWizard. Or LG anything else, for that matter.

I have the same problem coming from stock.
I have CWM 4.0.0.5 external installed. Took nandroid backup, wiped data and cache, flashed nightly 52, flashed gaaps and everything went fine but when I reboot I get stuck on the CM7 logo in an endless bootloop.
Thankfully I could restore stock but what I am doing wrong?

Installing stock rom with cwm recovery

hi.
Is it possible to install stock rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 wit cwm recovery?
Will instaling stock rom with cwm recovery overwrite my cwm recovery? If I am rootwd now, will I have still root after installing stock rom?
If you install a stock Rom, you'll lose both your CWMR and root, unless you do it using Mobile Odin.
yes you can flash Stock ROM with CWM. n you have to select 'keep CF root' when it ask.
For detail guide, Download guide from last link on my signature you will find ' Update ROM using CWM' in New folder.

I must've skimmed the OP, hence the inappropriate reply.
My Note was never bricked BTW. I had flashed angelom's v1, not v1.1 or v1.2, and managed to pull back in time.

You need cwm from cf, with stock recovery can't flash any rom.
You are rooted already then get cwm first.
You said to keep cwm, means u have it, stock recovery can't b erased. Stock recovery hav limited set of function. I believe u have still confusion in understanding cwm, just read more.

I think you can not install stock rom with cwm recovery. But you can restore backups.
There is difference between CWM - its and application which can be opened when you boot in the phone, and CWM Recovery - you can access it without/before booting in the phone.
Sorry if my answer is wrong.

CWM recovery OR better term is stock recovery, which exist on all device(inbuilt stock function), which can be access with Vol up + Power + Home
This have limites set of function, Just wipe cache, n wipe data.
Niether stock Nor custome ROM can be flashed
Nither backup Nor Restore is possible with it.
For this fuction, you need to have CWM application, which can available only if you have your device rooted. If tou have flash CWM, then you can access it with same method(three keys), but menu will be more advanced.
Hope it should be clear Now.
n7000 stock android with cwm installed
Hello there,
I wanted to install kitkat on my note1, n7000. I rooted the phone with philz cwm6 ddlsc. Everything went good. I then tried to install the kitkat 4.4.4 and it keeps giving an error and does not install. Later doing some research i figured i need a version of 6.4 and above of cwm in order to install 4.4.4. So I decided to leave all this and go back to stock 4.1.2. I did not unfortunately create a backup. Now that im trying to install it through odin the stock android, odin does not detect the phone. I have wiped off cache, user data and dalvik cache. Everytime the phone is booted it goes to cwm menu.
Please help me install the stock android and remove cwm/root.
Your help is much appreciated.

Although this is the note 1 forum but yes usually that's how it works. If you backed it up using cwm, then restoring should also work. You will need to do a factory reset 1st.

How to instal TWRP in rooted phone with CWM?

I'm forgetful and can't remember the procedure I used to install TWRP on my rooted Exhibit which had CWM at the time. I now need to install TWRP on my girlfriend's Exhibit, which is rooted with the stock root (no custom ROM, just rooted) and which already has CWM.
I will copy the TWRP file onto her external SD card. I will then boot into CWM recovery, and flash the TWRP zip file. After I do that, when I reboot the phone, how does the phone now which recovery I want to use? Does TWRP over-write or wipe out the CWM when you flash it? Must I make a selection for my default recovery choice?
I am a dummy and I should remember this stuff, since I already went through this on my phone.
By the way, I am installing AOIP on her phone. I have really liked it on mine, after trying Slimbean and Nexus4 and CM10 etc. Her tired old phone on the rooted stock ROM is giving her fits. So it is time for TWRP and AOIP.

When you flash a recovery zip it overwrites the recovery partition in your phone. You don't have to choose anything because it will stay TWRP until you flash a different recovery.

you can flash twrp and it will replace cwm and vice versa.
i changed from twrp to cwm only by flashing it over, because twrp caues problems (backups were damaged or not recognized - never had such problems with cwm).

but sir tyson says twrp is better?
They both work fine, but I prefer TWRP for more advanced features.
Did you by any chance rename your backup-folders with spaces in them?
That would explain why they weren't found by recovery.

[Q] GT-S6500D Boot Loop after updating CWM from 6.0.3.2 to 6.0.4.7

Hello everybody.
I was trying to install CyanogenMod 11.0 for Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 but after getting Status 7 error, I did some research and found out that I had to update the CWM to the newest one.
I updated it successfully from the old CWM and after restart it booted me into the new one. Than I rebooted the phone and since then, it started looping. It doesn't go into recovery mode. Only if I push Volume Down + home + Power, it goes into Download Mode.
I googled but I couldn't find anything that would help.
I'm inexperienced in die-hard tweaking on Android but I'm not a newbie in mobile phones (Proud ex owner of N900).
Please help and thank you in advance

One sure way to fix this is to go back to stock. You said that you can go to download mode. So use odin to flash stock.
Another way would be to use adb to get into recovery, but I don't know if you have access to adb.

I have never used cwm 6.0.4.7. I always used cwm 6.0.4.5 and I had no problem installing CM 11 with this. So what I suggest is:
-First flash cwm via odin (whatever version you find available).
-Then via cwm flash an update to cwm-6.0.4.5.
-Then wipe data/cache and /system.
-Flash cm11.
-(Perhaps flash gapps?)
-Reboot and enjoy (it will take a lot of a time to boot for first time so be patient)
Warning: While using cwm 6.0.3.2 avoid using option "reboot to recovery". This is what will get you stuck in a recovery bootloop.
After upgrating to 6.0.4.5 you should be ok.

It has internal SD mount problems, but not everyone has this problem. For some it just works fine.
Also I think that 6.0.4.7 also has the same problem.
Finally there is a 6.0.4.5 that I've uploaded that avoids mounting internal SD and only mounts external SD. Just for those who have mount problems and still want to install KitKat (because KitKat needs cwm 6.0.4.5 +)
thanks
