I'm curious to know what others out there are using. I'd love to be able to project my note 2 screen ontova wall and play games "wall-size!" Also, I've read in another area that you can attach speakers and projector tovthe samsung smart dock for a full multimedia experience; as the pico projectors volume capabilities are not up to par in most cases.
I'd love to know anybody elses viewpoint on the whole thing!
Cheers!!

Following this closely. I've been looking for a pico projector myself.
My geekdar went off and I found this..... waiting for knowlage on this (googles with thunderous fury)
So about two months ago I bought the pico projector sold by Brookstone for $299.99. It's 85 lumens and is noticeably brighter than some of the other ones I've seen. It has HDMI input and has a USB power output so it can power up other devices, charge your phone, etc. Most importantly it can power up a MHL cable so it works directly with the Note II. It also has built-in speakers that, while not great in quality, are much louder than the ones in the Note II. It's very small and light and weighs almost nothing.
Here's a little YouTube review:
Link to Brookstone:

Link to the nice MHL cable: $14
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/206665927.html
Note that the Note II uses a different MHL cable than the first Note, or older devices. It's the same as the cable for the SIII, with the 11-pin. That link there is for a cable that works and charges your phone too.

Awesome! Now im also wondering if theres some type of an accessory that allows the pico projector to be placed facing upwards towards ceiling with some type of clamp that holds the accessory in place such as the headboard of the bed for ceiling viewing pleasure. Not sure if itll work on popcorn ceilings though...

So many possibilities on the ceiling;great idea! I would recommend making something yourself. it shouldn't be hard to make something out of a paper clip, stick of gum, and a pencil (Macguyver style)

854x480 @~80 Lumens for the Brookstone
Vs.
640x360 @~20 Lumens for the Sammy
Let me think for a bit why I might not go for the Sammy
But the Brookstone is at least twice as big so are they even really competitive options? I think they're after different markets perhaps...

I noticed the differences as well. I'm not concerned about the size of the pico, so I'm leaning towards the Brookstone based on reviews that I've read.

i would want to get the sammy one just because its sammy, honestly i think sammy is one the top leading manufacturers, everything in my house from electronics is sammy and honestly no regrets at all...with the exception of my sound system lol

Hi I am looking for a case that will plug into the microusb and provide an alternate port. The port being the weakness on every mobile device by plugging/unplugging all the time. Ive lost more than 1 phone this way. i just want to preserve the life of my Nexus. I dont mind if it increases the length overall. Has anyone heard of such a thing?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Here is how I solved it, I have:
1. Asus Nexus 7 Dock
2. Sena Ultraslim pouch
So if I need to charge, it easy to remove the tablet from it, as for transferring files, I use wifi or Google Drive, simple as that.
Maybe I'm lucky, I've never broken a charging socket on a phone....but...the idea of a socket extension on a case is a great one. I've had to 'mod' a few charger plugs to get them to fit into the space left by case manufacturers around the socket.

do you mean something like the battery pack cases for phones cause I have never seen one for any tablet. You could get an otg cable and mod a case to hold it in place to do what you want I believe.

Yeah I've thought about doing that but was hoping for something more professional. Also I use a $35 seido case (already broke 2 N7's so I need the heavy case), would have to buy a second one to extend it to make the mod, with a good chance of doing a bad job of it and wasting $70.

I still don't get it, according to Wikipedia, micro USB port, can handle like 10000 cycles of connect/disconnect, and will be fine..so how do you destroy them?
quote:
"The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device"

My HTC Thunderbolt disagrees. Ive been having to swap the battery 3 times a day for the past year, using external chargers. For a while I could still connect to PC with a usb cable, not to charge but for file transfers, but now I can't do that either.

Hello,
My LG G2 charging cable seems to not be working anymore.
I also have a bunch of random chargers/cords (some in better repair than others). Does anyone know a relatively cheap plug/cable to buy?
I'd like to just buy 5 or 6 of them to have and just have a standard one in the house, since I have 3 Nexus 7 tablets, 3 phones and various other things that charge with Micro USB.
Thanks!

It'll charge two devices at about 1.6A or so, one at around 1A, the rest around 800mA, not sure about total real-world current if you're charging a bunch of devices at once.
But for me, it's perfect. I'm usually just topping off my G2 and Nexus 7 as I go to bed, and have other cords dangling out for my kids Nook Color, wifes Nook Touch, etc etc.

Is there a particular cable that works best for charging?

Nah don't worry about the crapple part of it, every port on it will charge at the "rated" speed with a normal USB cable on an Android device. In reality, it's about 80% rated from what I've seen, so like the 2.1 I've seen 1.7 out of, but that's not bad. I've charged my OG Note, LG G2, Nexus 7 2012 etc, all charge fine. Not as fast as their stock chargers, but the G2 charges at 1.5-1.7A so it's more than fast enough.
No special cable needed, you don't need a "charging" cable for sure. But there's a whole thread about the best cables to use for the G2. It's very picky about voltage sag, and cheap or very long cables it will drop down to a slower charge regardless of how much power the charger can provide. You might look at that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460881) if you're having specific issues or want to pick up a specific cable.
I haven't had any cable problems myself, except for connectors being too loose or too tight (G2 connector is weird).
BTW, I've been watching the last few days, and this charger does output higher output, it's just the G2 is kind of weird.. It'll ramp up and down what current it'd drawing, or something.. Like 1800 one second, then 1000, then 1200, then 1600, etc.. I realize that the reading has whatever the device is using removed from it (2000 in, 200 used = 1800 reading) but the G2 uses like 20mA idle, so..
Anyway.. I've seen as high as 1960mA according to Android Tuner.
I just bought a Belkin from Wal-Mart for $20 and its output is 2.1 amps my phone charges fast!

Has anyone heard if the Nexus 6 will magnetically attach to the Qi chargers like the Nexus 5? I'm a little worried it won't because of the curve on the back. I'd really like to use it as a car mount.
I've been wondering the same thing and have not heard anything yet. I use the AirDock in my car with my Nexus 5 and I love it.

The Nexus 5 didn't do that for *all* Qi chargers, only specific ones. Most don't have the magnetic pins to hold phones.
That being said, nobody has any idea at this point whether the Nexus 6 will...but my guess is no.
Edit, sorry, posted in wrong thread.
I asked both Google and Motorola Customer Service if the Nexus 6 supported the magnets for aligning the charger. Neither customer service was able to answer the question unfortunately, but your mileage may vary.
Google now lists support for the Nexus 6 in the Nexus Charger documentation.
Device Placement
"Nexus 6: 2.5 inches (64mm) from the bottom of the device"
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6073618?hl=en
This might imply it has the metal pins, but does not explicitly state that it does. But that placement doesn't seem very balanced without some form of magnetic help.

Sadly, wireless charging is just a footnote to most reviewers, especially in the US where most phones don't come with it without paying for an extra add-on item (either a case or a sticker for the inside of the phone). Most reviewers are either rushing to get the review out and didn't get said accessory, or don't own a charger so don't bother. Sad, really, because wireless charging is a feature that a lot of people would love if they knew it was there. In your car, especially, the ability to just stick your phone in the holder to both charge and secure it and use a bluetooth adapter for hands free/music playback is a REALLY nice feature. Less fiddling with wires feels like the future.

Yep! I'm getting ready to buy the Air Dock soon (after they announce the new one sometime this month) and then I will get the bluetooth adapter to do exactly what you are talking about
Should get the Airdock, it is great, but version 2 is coming soon with improved charging coil, among several other features. Either way, the Airdock is great, I have three!

I just finished this video. It better be working in mine. I use wireless charging all the freaking time. I would much rather have this than fast charge if I had to choose. But no, I haven't seen any reviews with it yet...

Got this from Reddit. This video shows the N6 on a Qi pad charging. From this and with Google's and Moto's pages showing Qi is supported I'm going to say that he must have had a bad unit.
I really expect to be able to use this with my airdock, ill be super dissapointed if the N6 doesnt have the metal plates for the magnets to grab....
Magnets on Nexus 6
They are either not there or are not activated by the Google qi charger from the play store like the Nexus 5 was.
One thing I will say, I have to set my n6 a bit more to the right than center to get it to connect and, more importantly, I set it on my qi pad at 11:30 the other night at 58%, woke up the next morning at 8am, 64%....... Very unsettling. Battery has been too dead every morning since to risk testing it again but my N7 charges just fine.
Seeing as though power banks are a dime a dozen and there are a billion knock off brands out there, I tend to only trust a few brands that have proved their worth. Here is my review of the newest offering from Tronsmart. I am on the trade in your Samsung every year plan, so this will definitely be useful for any of the upcoming Samsung flagships. It the best of past, present, and future.
Look/Feel
First impressions were very good. The Power Bank was packed well, in the typical Tronsmart purple/white packaging and came with a good quality USB-C to USB A cable for charging the bank itself. The bank itself has a good sturdy feel and seems to be made well and out of quality materials. The matte and glossy black make it look very high end. There are white leds to indicate the remaining power level in the bank. The power button has a nice tactile feel.
Performance
The Volt IQ did a good job of recognizing the my phone and applying an appropriate amount of power. It recognized the various devices I plugged in and adjusted the voltage and amps accordingly (Bluetooth speakers, headphones, droid mini, tablets, etc).
The Power bank charged my S7 Edge with typical QC 2.0 voltage and amps (it supports Quick Charge 3.0, but my phone doesn't).
- The highest I saw was 9V @ 1.62 A.
Overall impressions are excellent, I would buy this product again. It is well made, did not get hot, performs great and looks nice. The 12000mah is plenty to charge my phone 3 times from empty to full, or my kiddos tablets 3 times. It is a reasonable size and weight compared to others I have purchased. I have no desire to carry a brick sized power bang with me.This one is ideal for travel, camping, beach trips, or just heavy phone use days. I do wish it came with a USB-C to Micro usb as micro is still the norm and will need a few years to fade out. I'll be ordering one so I can utilize both ports at once.

Besides power banks never give you the exact capacity it tells just like the usb drives for example.

Great use of the calculator. It was just an estimate. Besides, I rarely kill my phone to empty, so this would definitely give me 3 nightly charges.
