I started to experiment different custom roms for the old 4X and could not find a decent backup app .
tried titanium backup but i got no app data , tried my backup pro , backup master and another couple from the market but to no avail .
finally i lucked out with Helium ( from team cyanogenmod ) it gave me all my apps back , all settings and saves , sms and call log . for contacts i just exported them to ext sd and imported back on new rom ( zaiben ) .
if anyone has a better solution , please post .

It is not recommended to restore your settings and system apps on different ROM because in most cases they are not compatible..
All your apps and contacts are synced with google, so when you install new ROM, google automatically restores it so really there is no need for backup. Your messages, setting, call logs can only lead to FC`s and for ROM not working properly..
And what if you don't sync your data with google?
the one that always work for me is Go Backup Pro.

Then you are removing half the reason for having an Android device.
Maybe I just sync/ back up my data to my private FTP server. Can somebody recommend an app for that?
thanks for all the interest
i started this thread because having a good backup app makes testing custom roms a lot easier .
i will try the go backup pro next time , thanks for the idea .
L.E.
just got the blackscreen bug in zaiben rc7 . changed to official miui and tried go backup pro . got the sms, call log and contacts . however , the apps needed to be installed 1 by 1 ( 57 apps ) and they did not have their data ( had to start over in subway surfers ) . gonna stick to helium for apps .
I use rom toolbox. Better than helium and titanium in my opinion

Hi guys!
I installed in first CM9 build of 17/05/2012 and every thing was good. But GooManager ask me to make an upgrade to the 23/05/2012 build and i do it.
After the flash i installed the Semaphore kernel 1.2.0, a datafix to avoid the storage message and finally i install the Gapps.
I reboot my device, open titanium backup and restore my apps. But when i open most of my apps it's make me a force close. Slightly angry i reflash the JVU 2.3.6 rom and restore again my apps, and the same problem appear.
Consequent 2/3 of my apps are unusable.
Please help me !!!
PS: my device is Samsung Galaxy S I9000
actually kernel: Semaphore 1.2.0
actually Rom: CM9 build 26/05/2012 (IMM76I)

thx
There has been an issue with a recent version of tb, I experienced it too. I think latest version resolved it. Restoring app only will work.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
what was your previous rom? this happened to me after restoring Titanium backups.. May be because of the data fixer, i don't know...
Thanks a lot men i resolved the problem. It was the apps data who causes conflicts .
happy to hear that congratulations
This doesn't seem like a great solution. Most of the time the point of an app restore from TB is to get the app data. I have this problem anytime I upgrade a rom or switch to a new one. This never used to happen pre ICS at all, but even then early on in teamhacksung roms it worked fine. On AOKP/CM9 it doesn't.
How can I restore apps+data after a factory reset/rom upgrade/switch and not have 2/3 of my apps crash?

Actually I am facing the same problem as well...
Did a backup of "everything" and wiped and installed another build von CM9 - almost all apps I tried to restore WITH data are crashing, which is quite annoying, because I loose all my accounts / savegames / etc.
Before switching to CM9 this restore was never a problem...
Maybe your option with the symbolic links will work - hopefully... stay tuned...
update: does not work - even after enabling this setting, app restore works, but apps+data still leads to a crash
Make sure you use the latest version of tb. There was a version which created a lot of these problems a while ago.
But in a few cases, I don't know any other solutions than restoring app only. Then try your most important app data backups one at the time. It's most likely that your backups became corrupted, that's also a good reason to keep a backup history of more than one.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
that's all you can do now I think, one at a time and find which ones work, tedious but that's the way it goes when you flash a lot, I just don't value too much data I in my apps, and let's face it....game data really isn't that important
Lol.. Freebies here..
If my post helped, don't mind hitting THANKS ;-)

All the settings - but ok, it is definitely not the end of the world - on the other hand, just backing apps without data? From my point of view, data should be restorable as well...

First of all , are your last rom a STOCK based or CM7 rom?
If STOCK:
Return to your last ROM, restore your contacts and sms with TB, then use an app as Mybackup to backup your contacts and sms, finally flash the ultimate rom again and restore!
If CM7/9/10.1;
You can import/export contacts using CM7/9/10.1 with the default phone app to your SDCARD/SIMCARD and viceversa, I don't remember about sms, but I think it's possible too
It'll create a file into your SDCARD with .vdf extension, with this file you'll only need push on it to restore all your contacts in whatever ROM you'll use
BOTH > STOCK METHOD WILL WORK!

I flashed that but the Theme is in Chinese and has no swiftkey app I was unable to find any difference.
I had to wipe all in recovery because the phone was restarting when removed from USB. But now I don't have that bug.
MiUi is surely very very buggy but lets hope we get updates soon I just got my Mi3 so the stock ROM of mine is different from previous phones ?
Clear data of Themes App

Actually MIUI is stable enough right now...
The version we get in India out of the box is good enough too (just a few minor bugs here and there, nothing to worry unless you have OCD )
Yes, a reset/wipe will remove your Gapps... That's because these apps dont come as system apps on Xiaomi phones...
And to get rid of the Chinese language in Themes app just clear the data of Themes app from settings (Its not a permanent solution but will atleast make it usable for now) If you get the same problem again just repeat the said work-around..
Have fun with your amazing Mi3...

If you have made a Nandroid backup (backup via the Recovery), then you could use the Titanium Backup app to restore parts of that backup.
I think that is a payed function in the app, but i am not sure about that.
Hello guys, I'm using the last release of xiaomi.eu beta but I'm considering give a shot for other rom. JDC, LOS or RR which one you guys recommend? Maybe some rom with android 8.0?

Please take a look in the Developer section.
There are several and everybody has it's own favorite.
Just try several and make your own choice, depending on the features you need/want.

As far as i know, it only has the app and app settings, and i don't think it has app data in that backup.
I am afraid that you lost the data.
Sorry.
Hi Guys,
What's the best way to transfer app with app data from old phone to new? Most applications like Xender only move the app and requires customisation after this. I have had some success with Migrate, but is there anything better for the job?
Thanks
You could give Swift backup a go

After using Titanium Backup for many years, I recently started using Migrate and I still use it because I found that with Android 11, TB had some issues.
Is there any issues you found with Migrate and I why you want to try other app?
Cheers!

Migrate is good
Alpha backup has done for me also a good job.
Titanium was the best app, years ago. They forgot to engineer on time...
Is the free version enough to copy app data and bring to new phone?

Good way (if rooted) is here
Migrate is a new app to help you switch custom ROMs
Tired of custom ROM switching being an annoying task? Migrate will walk you through the process of switching to another custom ROM with your data intact.

But I'm using alpha backup pro

Swift backup is very good too ! For root..
And free
A year ago I used OandBackupX (opensource and free) and it worked fine.
You can download it from F-Droid.
Titanium Backup is deprecated
for me titanum backup did the job and it restored most of apps with their data but for some apps it require instaling them first then restore the data only
btw you have to be rooted

I'm trying it with "Abra", a crypto wallet, just to check with one app instead of all at the same time. The build version is 995
I have used swift backup few times without issues. Beware though it encrypts the backup and needs to be signed into same Google account for restore to work.
