Battery question mark on boot - Motorola Droid 4

http://imgur.com/OxMh838
I just replaced my battery in the Droid 4, since my previous battery swelled up and started leaking. Motorola said they would cover it, even if it was out of the warranty, but they returned my phone with the battery ripped off, saying that "user mistreatment" was the reason they couldn't uphold their promise.
So, I installed a new battery from Amazon, and this is the issue that I get.
I was able to get into Android for a while, but after the charge died, this is all I get. I've tried quite a few things to be able to flash, anything, but no luck.
Any ideas out there? :/

I've seen that with a duff battery (broken connections) - I'd get a replacement, and see if that cures the problem.
Cheers,
Steve

Heh, well this is the replacement battery. Was hoping a brand new one wouldn't be broken, and don't really feel like spending another 35 bucks on this phone. Guess it's time to trash it. Thanks man.

If you are seeing that on both batteries, then I would check the connections on the phone. Between the two screw battery terminals, there are a couple of connectors that stick up - gently give them a scrape with something abrasive. If there is some dirt of corrosion on there, then it may be possible that they aren't making good contact with the terminals on the battery cable.

Gonna ask a stupid question.
Do the screws need to be in for it to actually register a battery?

I would say so, as the screws are part of the power contacts, and also ensure that pressure is applied to the data contacts.

I don't understand why it would work for one day, then stop working once the power is drained. Would that not mean the contacts are connecting?

Did you fix your phone? i have same issue, i have clean connectors but i have not success

No joke haha I called htc and they said to put another one on there was 163 bucks and they could keep it up to 3 weeks. That sounded so stupid i laughed. Is there any way i can buy one and replace it myself? Anyone know of such a place lol?
That piece of rubber crap really ****s me
I constantly pull it on and of to charge my phone in my car, I ended up cutting it in half with a pair of scissors! so that the usb port is exposed and the sd slot is still covered by half the rubber.
As for the battery back don;t get me started on how many times I drop my phone per day cause the back cover falls of!
currently have double sided tape on the battery to try and keep the back on.

Lol, i hear ya
Its really annoying to me, perhaps the only flaw in the phone.
So far I have had no luck finding a standalone battery charger so I find that I have to recharge via the USB port, which means pulling that cover open frequently.
If it comes off entirely, does it go back on?
What are others doing with theirs?
Hi Guys,
i know im reviving an old thread here, but i am getting one of these tommorrow.
What happens if the rubber cover is simply cut off? Does it really detract from the phone?

Fix Broken microUSB Port

So the microUSB port on my Captivate stopped working the other day (can't connect to pc or charge without applying significant pressure in a certain direction) and I'm thinking about fixing it my self.
I'm really just looking for some advice from people who have done this before. What kind of soldering gun should I get (or will the Radio Shack special work)? What kind of soldier should I use? And should I think about buying a new micoUSB port from one of these parts stores?
Thanks in advance!
I wouldn't fix it myself...there is more to it then you think

I'd stay away from radioshack soldering irons. I bought a cheap $30 Weller iron and it is way better. The repair is not horribly hard. The worst part is removing the bad one without lifting a pad. I lifted a pad on one I tried fixing and screwed up one of the pads and a tiny bit of the trace. Needless to say I could not fix the tiny damaged trace and sold it off for parts. But the new usb went on without a hitch with some good solder and some desoldering braid.

Do you think it's possible to fix it without replacing it? IE Just apply more solder or try to re-solder the current contacts?

It's virtually NEVER the connection between the leg and pad that is the issue, but rather always the inner connector that touches with the pins on the USB cable itself. So basically no, re-flowing the legs to pads won't do anything. I always ohm through the leg to the pad before replacing them to check if it's an easy fix but that's never the case and the whole connector ends up being replaced...
Download Jig Works But Won't Charge/Connect USB
I think I am having the same problem. I can use a download jig that I got from MobleTech some time ago, but the USB will only connect if I fiddle with the connection and will drop out almost immediately. I first noticed it because the phone was not charging overnight. I was running teamhacksburg ICS and thought I had developed the charge bug, but appears that I might need a new USB connection. Have tried differn't computers with same results. Is it safe to say I need a new USB port for my Captivate or are there some other things I should check. Thanks for the help.
If it's finicky like that then yes almost certainly.
So how would you go about replacing your USB port on your Captivate? or is it not worth trying for most people? One of the pins on my port came loose and got smashed to the outside shell. In trying to bend it back, it broke of course. So now no Download mode from Jig and no computer recognition.

I never got a PM but I followed the clues over to mobiletechvidoes. Once you add usb repair to your cart and check out you will receive an email about sending in the phone (after an hour or so) and I have just sent one in. It says send the phone without a battery or battery cover and I went ahead and wiped the phone just for safety.
Anyone ever find the link or know how much this costs?
in my sig if i remember correctly it is about $35
I paid $35 and it worked out well for me! Mobiletechvideos.com is where I signed up and they were fast and professional.
Fixed with vice grips
Just did this and slowly applied a little pressure and adjusted for more pressure at the end of the USB metal connection. It's a sturdy fit now and I'm not losing connectivity.
So the fix is to replace the connector altogether? Does anyone have a digikey part # or equivalent?
My issue seems to be that it charges, but I have no data connection. The pins don't need a reflow. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare micro usb cable to splice and check continuity on hand.
Is there any way I can talk with the enumerator chip to make sure it isn't fried, or should I just do the continuity check?

Anyone else had the USB port become mildly loose (moves back and forth if any pressure is put on the cable)? I believe its on its way out.

It has a screw to remove it so it is safe to assume it can easily be replaced.
I don't see why it wouldn't last long. Don't man-handle it and it shouldn't be a problem at all. I remember seeing a thread in the main S5 forums a week or so ago...with a handful of people saying they already broke it. It's just a little piece of rubber holding it together, but some people apparently pry it open without any care in the world...lol.
Well I got the device with a tiny miniscule scratch on it. Like a pinhead sized one. I wanted to know if I can replace it in the future just in case it gets worse or whatever. So the value of the phone holds up. I'd swap it but I'd look like an idiot since it's so small lol
I'd be tempted to remove the door entirely - it's a pain having to remember to remove the door every time I want to charge my phone, especially when docking it in my car.
It is a replaceable part, assuming that Samsung makes it available (The part). To date, they have not. Some people have broken their already and tried to have the phone replaced and Samsung said no, as they consider it to be a cosmetic damage, like a scratch or crack.
I was worried about this same thing, so i bought one of those aftermarket QI wireless chargers and use that most of the time to charge. Takes longer, but the battery lasts a lot longer than my S3 so I only need to do a charge at night now, as opposed to late afternoon as was on the S3 so I can just let it sit there for 6 hours plus.

I'd guess it isn't normal opening and closing that breaks it. I keep grabbing it along with the USB when I unplug the phone, I could easily see ripping it out by carelessness. I'd hope that Samsung tested it for 500+ cycles.
The little flaps on other phones I've had never broke off.

Battery replacement

Good morning.
With Tapatalk I couldn't find any thread related to battery replacement, so excuse me if there were (surely) other threads like this.
Sadly the Magnector X2 ruined my battery, and now I want to replace it.
Is it simple to remove the back cover, and most important, to mount it again?
Are there any good batteries, or should I buy an original one?
Thanks
Has nobody already changed the battery?
I have no info about the replacement but how did the magnector ruin your battery? Using one myself

i would not recommend the battery change of a xperia z3c unless you know what you are doing.
i did it for myself a few weeks ago and needed a new backcover also (thats the cheapest part) my motherboard was nearby to broke cause the sticker used on the motherboard is very adhesive.

When the charge level is near 100% the led start blinking off and on (green) when the phone is off, and when the phone is on, the icon of charge appears and disappears continuously.
After a year doing so, the battery discharges much quickly than before.
So I've thrown away the magnector and I'm using the normal micro-usb port.
For this reason I wanted to replace my battery.

Note 5 N920C battery replacement

Hey guys!
Two days ago I've bought myself a Note 5 N920C used. The phone looks good, and it works perfect, but the battery doesn't work as intended.. it drops from 40% to 6% in 2-3 minutes, while updating some Playstore apps.. with the screen turned off.
So.. my question is, where on Amazon (UK preferably), or what model should I order ? Are there genuine batteries, or all of them are fake ?
Thanks!
Anyone, anything ?
I should be able to help you, I once replied to this - but XDA forums is pretty broken for me with Chrome on Android. (~1 minute page load times)
I've had to replace my battery twice.
Have a look at this picture:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1...xy_Note_5_Battery_Pic1_large.jpg?v=1466274913
Please make sure all of these things exist - to increase your chances of a genuine battery.
-Hopefully the listing stays 'genuine'. (say on ebay)
-Note the Samsung logo.
-Note the serial number & date up the top, fakes/replacements don't have this format or it doesn't exist.
-Ensure everything else looks sound.
-And check the MAH (capacity).
There are some things you really need to know before cracking it out. Mind if we voice call? I found out some things the hard way. Those disassembly videos tend to gloss over some things.
(Like just how much you really have to heat up the back, best technique to pull off without breaking, how damn sticky the battery glue is (may pierce battery), etc)

Hey dude, thanks for the reply!
Yes.. not having XDA forum on Tapatalk.. is really a hard thing to browse around!
I will take the phone to a GSM shop, so that they will mount the battery inside.. I am afraid to mess with it.. because I'm pretty sure I will crack the back glass, haha!
Thank you very much for all the details!
P.S. What model of Note 5 you have, and what model of battery you bought ?
How much is a shop going to change it for? I think you should do it yourself imo, $16 for battery, $4 for tools, $15 for heatgun - if you break the back, it's only $9. Imo, you should get the experience, as you may need to replace the screen next time.
I have a 920c, all of the Samsung variants have compatible batteries for this device.
As your old battery is no good. It should be quite easy to heat it up and get in with the tool kits which provide guitar picks.

Oh.. you have the 920C like I do! What battery code did you had inside your phone ?
Keeping in mind I don't live in the US, here the prices are a bit bigger for a heatgun, and for the tools..
A gsm shop that has a lot of good reviews, charges around 55$ for everything.
I surely hope that I will not need to replace the screen anytime soon.. haha! That is the most expensive part of this phone!

I think you'll be quite surprised at the prices, you're in Europe. I'm in New Zealand for one. There is often free shipping for such items.
Here is what SCAM/FAKE batteries can look like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-G...606736?hash=item3aed41aa10:g:kgMAAOSwqXZZwSZI
https://www.amazon.com/Quality-3000...89&sr=1-8&keywords=note+5+replacement+battery
Here is what seems to be a legitimate: (Note Samsung logo, position of QR code, black seal edging, 'CELL MADE IN KOREA, ASSEMBLED IN CHINA')
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-EB...443227?hash=item4d63a81b5b:g:upkAAOSwufpZwIPS
Here's why I don't trust a shop:
-They may put in a fake battery.
-They may leave the seal damaged, and you won't know.
-They may damage the backplate rather than replace, and still charge you the same.
-They may put the back on and leave dust in the camera.
Here's why it's good to know:
-You have the tools for good.
-You can replace parts in the future, you may need to replace the battery or display or camera or usb port.
-Could work out cheaper - despite buying tools.
As someone who's replaced the screen twice and battery twice. (Samsung support sucks when you're on holiday) I can honestly say Samsung has cheap build quality. The battery is much easier than say - a screen replacement. All you can break is the back and the old battery.

Thanks for the link. Repairing this phone is really not difficult. Using the right amount of heat the back comes off without breaking in about 7 minutes and removing the battery requires some more heat and a little bit more prying. Replacing the digitizer requires heat and some patience.

Hi - did you have to replace the adhesive during battery replacement process?
Or re-use the existing one?
I am expecting mine battery to arrive in couple of days just wanna be sure I have everything before I start the procedure.
Thank you
So I took the plunge and bought a battery someone else suggested from Fry's electronics. It was only 15 bucks and I picked it up in person. It was EXTREMELY hard to remove the back cover, even after heating it a lot. I ended up basically destroying the back cover to get into the phone. So far the battery seems to be running OK, but I'll be able to report back on its performance in a few days.
In case anyone is still monitoring this thread. I went ahead and found a battery at Fry's electronics for 15 bucks and went through with the replacement. I completely shattered the back glass in the process so I had to get a replacement. So far it's been very good. I went from 3 hours screen on time to about 4.5 hours. Basically, I'm getting 50% more battery life overall and don't have to charge the battery in the middle of the day any more. Accubattery showed that I had 1800mAh of life left in the previous one and this one shows about 2700-2850 depending on the reading.
Here's the battery I got. It was only 15 bucks and I picked it up in store too.

I had to replace the back glass, but I can tell you that the glue should still be plenty strong to hold the glass on if you don't break the glass in the process. I put the broken one in its place for a week while the replacement came. Although it was in a case, It was still held on firm by the glue that's there, and that's with me having peeled off most of the glue since I had screwed it up so badly anyway.

Quick charging works perfectly fine. I don't really use NFC so I can't test that out, but as far as I know the NFC capability is not built into our batteries in the Note 5. If you have an easy way of me testing it out then I can try it out for you.
I believe you are correct about how the NFC is not built into the battery itself. I will go ahead and order this battery and give it a try.
Thanks again!

I believe you are correct about how the NFC is not built into the battery itself. I will go ahead and order this battery and give it a try.
Thanks again!

How is that battery working out? I want to replace mine as well and am looking for a reliable aftermarket one that won't last only 2 months or blow up my phone.
