Hi,
While I am streaming music via Bluetooth to my car and using Google Navigation, a problem occurs. When the Navigator tells me what to do next, I can't hear anything (no music as well).
So, so far, I have found 2 MAJOR PROBLEMS with the Note 3 :
1- You won't be able to play music after making/receiving a phone call. Error message: Unable to play during phone call. If you use another music player app other than the stock one, such as Winamp ... you can play the music, but the sound does not come out from the speaker at the bottom, but the speaker on the top.
2- This Bluetooth issue.

Were you able to find out the fix for these issues? I am having the same problem.

Until now, I have not found a way to fix this annoying problem yet.
i have the same issue
Normally, i stream music with bluetooth to my car. sometimes i use waze at the same time. whenever a directional prompt or police warning comes on, it used to pause the music and the lady speaks the direction. The music then resumes and everything was fine.
Now, when the prompts come on, the music cuts off (but doesn’t pause, because when it comes back on its at a later part). Sometimes the voice prompt makes it thru but is choppy/garbled, or sometimes no voice at all. This behavior is the same for waze and google maps navigation.
I tried the setting to make it use the phone speaker instead, but it’s the same thing.
I noticed that this first happened after I installed the Themer app. I didn’t find the themes interesting enough and uninstalled it. I’ve had this issue ever since. I’m tempted to factory reset the phone, or better yet, root with RDLV since I’m still on MI9 as I understand RDLV wipes the phone anyways…

Are you having the same problem with streaming music via bluetooth not working ?
When you turn on your bluetooth to connect with the car, the phone will be put in "call mode" which doesn't allow you to play music at all? And even if you turn your bluetooth off, the phone will continue assuming that youre on a phone call, and doesn't let you play music.
At least right now, I and one other person in this forum are having the same issue.
It really drives me crazy.I think its because of the update to MJ5, I never had this problem when I bought the phone, only after update. . But now I can get back to stock, since their is no stock firmware for it yet.
my problem is with navigation prompts (either waze or google map) not working with I am streaming music thru bluetooth. when not streaming music the directional prompts come thru just fine. i can stream music to the car with no problems about being in call mode

I've recently brought a new car stereo and bluetooth gateway - both of which connect to my G1 fine, however...
When I connect them (e.g. when they switch on, as both connect automatically), it starts the music player on my phone playing a random track!
This is becoming very annoying, as I typically listen to Podcasts, not music. So my question...
Is there anyway to stop this happening?
And/or automatically start BeyondPod to be the app that launches on a bluetooth connection?
Note: Am running Cyan 4.0.2 on G1, with JG-Cyan theme (default music player, with slightly different skin).
I am wondering if there is a way to stop this also. I have a Ford with the Sync system and when I call someone there will be music playing in the background until I shut off the music player. lol.
Mine is straight with the JVC KW-NX7000BT head unit. What are your guys spec? Are you rooted? What rom? And do you have the newest radio?

Not sure what you mean by 'Mine is straight'.
My head unit is a Clarion FB289, connecting to a rooted G1 with Cyan 4.02 Rom (with JG-Cyan Theme). As far as I'm aware I have the latest radio.
As the problem/action happens with two different BT devices, gotta be something to do with the phone/ROM (?)

When I said mine is straight just meaning mine doesn't act in the way you guys are having. Go to your settings on your phone and go to about phone and look what your baseband says. Most likely you prolly do have the newest radio but you just wanna check. Without having the newest radio you can run into BT problems.
It has done it not rooted, rooted with JF 1.5, cyan's 3.6.8.1 through 4.02, Hard and the 1.33.2005 SPL, always the latest Radio.
I guess it is the BT device.
New Development
I'm mainly using BeyondPod to listen to podcasts (go figure...).
But was playing with the settings following the last update, I realised that the 'enable headset buttons' wasn't 'on'.
Since switching it on, when I connect to bluetooth devices, it starts up BeyondPod, rather than the music player...
... better for me, would be nice if nothing happened!
+2 year old thread - same problem. Still. It's kinda funny, but then again it's really, really frustrating.
On the same token, cars usually request access to the contact list - and I've found that the phone allows this even if I don't explicitly allow it. If I happen to look at the phone right when the car system makes this request, I can see the notification and I get to "Allow" or "Cancel". But if I don't do anything, it automatically allows it. What gives?
This has to be a flaw of Android. It's a HUGE security risk too. I use rental cars frequently when I travel and I really don't want to give all my contact data to a car that has a new driver every other day or so.
I have a Motorola Atrix btw, not an HTC Dream. Maybe a mod could move this to a general Android forum.

If this does not work try the solution below. I just went out and trouble shooted with my radio. Seems like when I make the pair from the phone to radio I have the problem. When I make the pair from the radio to the phone its a non issue. The first phone I paired was my Galaxy note I went into the radio settings and searched for my phone; paired the phone and it maintains the connection perfect. When I switch between cd, aux and BT audio the phone stays connected. Calls come in voice switches to speaker and then after call if music is playing it resumes via what ever method it was playing pre call. ie CD, FM/AM or media app (pandora).
On my GS2 I tried making the connection from the phone first. ie making the phone seek the radio's BT signal. This is where I had problems. The stock music app would start after every call. ie send or recieve. I also got the annoying music starting everytime the device reconnected. ie the phone would dissconect everytime I switched the radio's input method between cd, aux or bt.
Soulution 1) Make the pair from your head unit and not the phone. Temporairly set your phone to visible and make the pair that way.
Solution 2) Headset block. Stops unwanted headset controls. In this case play on connect. Just remember to open app and hit the toggle button to on on your first use. found in the Play Store.
Solution 3) More of a work around. Media Button Router : App that lets you select what app you want to auto open on BT audio connect, or you can have it just display choices and cancel them out when you turn on the screen.
Both work well with the first being the better of the 2, but the second addresses you secondary criteria "or automatically start BeyondPod to be the app that launches on a bluetooth connection".
I think its solved now my this thread RIP. It frustrated the heck out me, but nowhere actually had a solution. Hope it does not come back in 4.0.
hi
Well Dec 2012 and I am still struggling with this...
I have a Subaru and a Subaru Factory radio with BT streaming. I cannot do "solution 1" as the car stereo does not have option to search for available devices.
The problem I have is not only the above but more...
0. I have the XXLSJ based Neatrom (Jelly Bean) on my galaxy S2
1. It automatically launches either "Power Amp" or the default JB music player. (earlier it used to do Power Amp, but lately it is doing the JB player)
2. I have switched off bluetooth controls in PowerAmp.
3. There is no option for switching off bluetooth in the default JB music player.
After I start the car, I usually switch on "google listen" and the try to play the podcast I want to hear,
next it starts playing and in a secon or two gets muted, (as some music app tries to autolaunch I guess)
then I do vol+ or vol- on the car stero and it starts playing the podcast, and then the phone freezes (hence it mutes again)
and I get a message "poweramp force closed" at this time if I am luck the bluetooth connection stays or sometimes
it resets, and then I have to go through the procedure again!
If I am lucky the bluetooth stays and I am able to listen to the podcast...
If I use the seek+ or seek- buttons on the car I can switch podcasts which is fine, but the Meta-tags shown on the screen are
not of the podcasts, they are still comming from poweramp. If I hit vol+ and vol- on the PHONE (not the car) then the meta-tags
switch to the next or previous song. Note that as the metatags switch I am still listening to 'google listen' and not poweramp.
I would have liked this to work cleanly.. but well...

Hi all,
I have an O2X and a JVC KD-X50BT digital receiver installed on my car. With this setup I'm supposed to be able to play my phone's music through car's speakers using the bluetooth from both devices and also answer or make phone calls, everything without the need of getting my phone out of my pocket. Since I installed CM7.2 a few days ago every time I pair both devices I get a message in the receiver "WAIT VOICE Optimus 2X" and I can't do anything, it seems like the receiver is waiting for me to say something. If I click "Back" button (it's the only button I can click =S) in the receiver the message disappears but the music won't play even if the player in the phone shows the music is playing. The only thing I've found that I can do is go to the properties of the BT pairing connection in the phone and disable the "phone" profile leaving only "Media" profile enabled. By doing this I'm able to listen to my music but I lose the phone capabilities in the receiver. If I enabled again the phone profile the music mutes and the "WAIT VOICE" message appears again.
With CM7 comes installed the Voice Dialer app. which if I open it while paired with the receiver the message "WAIT VOICE Optimus 2X" appears and if I close it the message disappears. I have tried uninstalling this app. and also TTS Service and Pico TTS but nothing works. I really don't need and don't want to have voice commands, for that I have the receiver which comes with a microphone and a lot of options for calling.
This never happened before with the stock ROM and yesterday I tested with a second Android phone with stock ROM and it paired with no problems and with both "phone" and "media" profiles, no "WAIT VOICE" messages or anything like that, everything just perfect, music, phone calls, messages, everything.
So, before CM7 everything was perfect, any ideas? maybe a service running in the background that launches some kind of app or something when it pairs? an app that makes the receiver think that I entered in "talk" mode so it is waiting for me to say something?
Right now I have a piece of useless technology installed in my car that I can't use and I'm not going to sacrifice phone or music capabilities =/!
I've had this problem in the past with my old GNex, but it seems much worse on my new Moto X. i've been unable to find a solution, so it's come to asking the XDA crowd.
I use bluetooth audio to stream music from various app's through my Jeep's stereo (Using UConnect if that has any bearing on the situation).
I've had the moto x for about a month. When i first got it, this didnt seem like a big problem, but within the past week or so, maybe even since the most recent update (though i do not have solid proof of that) its become a real problem.
When my phone associates to my UConnect, it immediately opens up google music, and starts playing whatever it can get its mit's on. If it has local cached content it plays that, if it doesnt, it'll go out to google music and get something to play. Even if i have nothing queued. Its like its on a mission to entertain me (even at the cost of my monthly data allowance). If i close google music in the notification area, about 50% of the time, it'll just open itself right back up again. If i pause it, it'll start playing again in a few seconds. If i open google music, clear my queue, and close google music, it'll put something back into queue, and start playing that.
All of this would be fine, if i only listened to google music, and had something queued all the time. but i dont. Sometimes i do use google music, other times i'm listining to di.fm, or some other media app, like podcasts or whatever. or sometimes, i'm not even listening to media from my phone, rather satellite or something. In which case i may not even realize that the phone has started playing media, until i check the phone for some other reason.
I assumed that this was my UConnect asking my phone to play something. Like an auto "play" command sent to whatever bluetooth device is connected. However, i cant find any way to tell UConnect not to do this, and the more i fight with it. the more i think its something on the phone, not the UConnect.
I found this thread, while starting this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2564580 which is the same issue, on a different device. Unfortunately it doesnt look like it's gotten a good answer. It links to an app that is supposed to kill off media apps that start right as bluetooth does, but that seems like a hack rather than a fix. Regarless, im going to try the app. I'd like to know if there's a better fix though.
Ive tried looking through google music's settings, nothing in there about turning this off.
Has anyone had this issue? Have you found a decent solution?
Thanks!

I had this on my GNex, Nexus 4 and my Moto X and it's very annoying. I'm not sure if it's not just related to the type of bluetooth device you are connecting to though as I don't remember this happening when connecting to a set of BT headphones or a portable radio, only in my car. I'm rooted so I have just either uninstalled Play Music or used Titianium and froze it which is what I did on the Moto X since I want to easily have a stock system for OTA's.

I've thought of doing just that. The problem is, i use google play music. Just not all the time. I'd rather it didnt just pop up and start playing.
On my GNEX, it was Apollo player in Cyanogen that kept popping up. But all I did to solve that was delete all local music. Google play music was never a problem on that device.
Your right about Apollo player doing that also. What's so screwed up is I could be playing a podcast get out of my car for a few minutes then get back in and once I connect BT Pay Music starts even though the podcast is active and paused.
Have you noticed it happening on other BT devices other then your car?
Beamed from my Moto X

Im a relatively light bluetooth user. My Jeep is really the only bluetooth device i use for media output. I do have a headset (media headset, not phone headset) that supports bluetooth, that I could test with that.
I have 4 bluetooth devices (two headphones, and two receivers hooked to audio systems) and have never seen this behavior on my moto X, Nexus 4, or Nexus 7.
However, Assist has a setting to resume playback when it detects you are driving; have you checked that?

Nope, not set to do anything while driving. I dont have that profile enabled.
One thing I did do, which may or may not be related, it tell google now what to use to handle my music (and i set it to google play music) requests. Maybe i'll try turning that off to see what happens.
OK, i just tested it with my headset.
Connected bluetooth, it didnt do anything automatically.
I fired up DI.FM's app, and played some music, it played through the headset as expected (verifying that the phone and the headset were actually successfully paired).
I turned off the headset, the phone disconnected bluetooth within a few seconds.
Turned the headset back on, bluetooth reconnected, nothing happend.
So, i figured i'd try to emulate a "play" command. I pressed play on the headset, and it fired up DI.FM (the last media app i had open) NOT (this is important!) NOT google play music!
Every time i get in the Jeep, its google play music that opens, regardles of what the last app i was playing media on was. Why would this be different? Also, it only tried to start anything after I pressed play.
Is there any way to diagnose whether my UConnect is sending a play command? Some sort of bluethooth debugger or something?
Just for grins, try setting a different app than Play Music in the Assist settings to see if that app is then opened.

Switching didnt help.
Also, removing the google play music check from the google now search options, didnt help.
Im going to give the auto-kill app listed in that other thread a try, see what happens. Still seems like there should be a better solution here. Its not like android to make an assumption like this and not let you turn it off.
the issue is not how you're connecting. the issue here is Google Play Music if i'm remembering correctly. on an SGS4, if, for example,Google Play Music and Spotify are installed alongside each other, even if the last app i was using was Spotify, when i reconnect to BT Google Play Music takes precedence and will start playing something. this is why i do not have Google Play Music on my device.
Hi all,
I've spent the last day trying to solve this issue and searching for answers on xda and elsewhere but there doesn't seem to be a solution. I have an HTC One, rooted, s-off, and running ViperOne. I recently upgraded my data plan and no longer have to worry about conserving my data each month so I started using Pandora in my car via Bluetooth. Bluetooth connection from my phone to the car has never been an issue. However, when I run Pandora, initially it has no problems connecting and will start playing a station right away but then when a song ends (and the screen has turned off), I always get the message that Pandora is unable to connect. Once I wake the screen, it magically starts playing the next song. Then when that song ends, the connectivity problem happens again and the only way to get it starting again is to once again unlock my phone, which is not exactly safe if I'm driving along and trying to be a safe driver by not fiddling with the phone. I've tested this out in the same spot in my home using my home wireless internet, and it works flawlessly. Even when the screen is off, the next song will play. Once I'm back on LTE, same problem happens again. I've already disabled the Power Saver option to not turn off data connection when the screen is off and turned off Sleep Mode. I'm wondering if this happens to anyone running stock software on their HTC One? Going through the ViperOne thread, it has appeared to be an issue for others as well. Thanks
Im on stock TMO HTC One and have streamed pandora, siriusxm and google play music many times on my way home with no issues.
Mainly through the headset jack. But for a few weeks i did use the HTC audio bridge A100 to stream music via bluetooth and that also had no issues.
Try to test another BT device OR if your vehicle has a stereo headset jack input try that. See if you get the same results.
Thanks for the quick reply. The problem seems to occur whether or not I'm using Pandora in my car via Bluetooth or just running Pandora by itself in my house as background music.

Any luck finding an answer to this? I'm having this same problem with TuneIn and XiiaLive, and haven't been able to find anything.
I've also completely uninstalled Viper Audio, so I'm thinking that isn't the issue.

I ended up wiping and re-installing Viper and the problem didn't happen anymore. I have not had any problems since. I think the thing to make sure of is that on whatever app you're having trouble with, to make sure you're not restricting background data for it in Data Usage.
Hi,
I have VW Passat with AA (MIB3 based system). Android Auto works in general, but there is a problem with applications like ReplaIO, Spotify and sometimes even TuneIn.
Those start to stream audio "into nowhere". The sound volume control does not work then either from the panel or from the steering wheel. What I do to enable sound?
I need to run ANY Google based app, like Youtube or Youtube Music/Google Play Music, then stop it and switch to another app. Then it plays correctly, with sound.
Anyone got same behaviour in the car? What is the reason? Any workaround? This is not happening when same phone plays via Bluetooth, there is always the sound.
Only via AA connection, there is a problem. Later, after my manual workaround as above, switching the sources (FM/DAB/BT/AA) works correctly.
But if I disconnect the USB cable and connect it again... no sound from AA
Please help.
As far as I know, this is an ongoing bug. To reenable audio when the bug occurs you can simply dial to some phone number (best and easiest is if you call a number with an automatic answering machine), wait for the answer and then disconnect the call. Immediately you will get the sound back. In my car, when it happens, there is no sound at all, in any app, the only way is dialing.

Well, for sure the problem exists, but it seems we need to live with that. No fix until now from Google. I wonder if this is related to Android 10, have anyone tried that with earlier versions?
In my case (just tested), the phone call does not fix that. The only way for me is to play some song from Youtube Music, pause that and switch to Spotify, for example. Then it plays normally.
I suspect this bug is related to sound focus/sound routing/mixer.
This bug is related to AA only and it is happening in Android 9 also, maybe not everyday, but from time to time. I have a Note 10+ with Android 9 and a Peugeot 3008. In my case, the trigger is, almost always, the lack of internet connection in my underground parking. If the phone is connected to my car's display through AA, and if I try to play internet music (spotify or other internet radio app) before I get out from the parking and before my phone gets connected to the internet, then the music app gets stucked and the sound from any app disappears. Only making a phone call and waiting for somebody to respond or restarting the phone does help.
