Nexus 4 Battery comparision Dalvik and ART - Nexus 4 General

Battery comparison between Dalvik and ART.
I got Better Battery backup in Dalvik compared to ART
Dalvik Backup almost 13 hours with 3.20 Mins Screen time.
ART Backup 13 Hours 30 mins with 2.19 mins Screen time.:crying:
With Light Usage around 50 Mins Screen time ART backup is good.
I got almost 31.13 Mins Back up in ART where as in Dalvik it is only 26.37 mins

Something's up...I have the exact reverse of this. I manage btwn 4-5+hrs under art and avg of 4.5hrs with dalvik. I'll capture a screenshot next time I run down the battery.

strange thread, false battery "benchmark" ?
You don't seem to have same usage of your phone according to screenshots, especially wifi and VM used :
- half time/usage wifi on dalvik
- whereas wifi always on on ART.
i managed to have almost 2 days of battery with wifi, 2g data, 4h SOT on ART, on Nexus5 KRT16S port.
That's why i say "strange" about your OP...:
Your battery doesn't seem to be calibrated, you didn't use also your phone the same way with each VM.
No information on kernel + rom used, nor android release, nor dalvik tweaks ?
Did you use apps 'badly" optimized for ART ? as whatsapp...
IMHO Better to use a battery benchmark tool too.

Here with ART on my part. Mainly web browsing and hangouts, used the play store for a while too trying to find a widget i like.

I'm sold on ART. On my Nexus 7 FHD running stock Android and frankokernel, I can go several days without charging and just a couple hours of use (screen off=WiFi off). There's no way I would ever bother with Dalvik again. It was a hack from the start to avoid paying Sun for a JavaVM. Good riddance to Dalvik.
I just got the cracked screen repaired on my Nexus 4 (a feather touched it). So I will be using ART with it once KitKat installs.

I will use ART once they update it in 4.4.3 or whatever to not crash a lot. My own modded launcher doesn't work with it, and I'm not dev so I don't know any magics to get it to work.

what sorcery is that?

Battery life is good enough for me.
Using Stock rooted KOT49H + Hellscore kernel + ART
Super smooth and better than dalvik when opened an Apps or Games.
Thats my opinion only

There are no impacts, because lithium ion batteries do not need calibration.

and let it charge to 100% without using it too much

Your Android OS is draining your battery waaay too much. Does MIUI still have the Android OS bug? Reboot into recovery and clear cache and davlik cache, and continue monitoring the Android OS. It should be less than 10%.
Hi.
Thanks for the advice.
I did what u said. battery usage android os 31% and sys 29% but when i change for unplugged usage it shows sys 18% OS 9%. The previous is the total usage. Do u think its fine?
Hi, I'm using MIUI Mint Berry Edition 1.10.28 and the battery is very good, perhaps you should give it a try. Another trick is to delete google talk if you don't use it

I believe the default options in Google Talk is to have it login automatically. I never used it before, but when I first got an i9000 I remember going through apps I didn't use, and noticed that Google Talk—even though I never, ever used it—was signing it and staying signed in the entire time I had my phone. I quickly got rid of it (although you could probably just turn off the automitic login).
hi guys!
THX for the ideas but I got one yesterday from another forum. I just wiped in recovery mode the darwick memory or what and now its perfect. I charged the battery fully yesterday at 17:55. Was playing and using wifi ,still have around 20%.

wipe dalvik , wipe cash , format
then put miui on your sdcard and flash it
after that , clear dalvik cash and wipe cash partition again
calibrate your battery using battery calibration app ,
reboot.
the problem should be solved , but i must tell you , miui is battery HUNGRY and u will NOT get more than 3-4 hours screen time
You could try Juicedefender. That should buy you some time!

I find apps like this normally do the opposite, Just another service eating up CPU power. Also don't judge a ROM's battery from the 1st charge. Calibrate and the battery tends to settle.. Though IMO Cm7 ftw, 2 days usage from it

I sort of agree, but it depends on how much battery the app is saving you. Sure, it takes some CPU usage to be able to work, but if it's saving you 5x as much battery by doing so, then it's obviously beneficial. Lots of people swear by Juice Defender, so it must work as such.
Hello ppls. I've seen a lot of posts about high battery drain. I am wondering about my battery life.
So, i unplugged my SGS at 10am,said 100% when i unplugged it dropped to 96% (i read its normal, the protection against overcharge), left at 10.30 listened to 1h of music,15m of just twiking, writing 1 sms,at 13:30 already 59%
Faze II: 15m on facebook via wifi,wrote 5 sms,played 10 mins- 39%
III 1h music +10m gaming+ 15m twiking, at 8pm 20%.
IV about 5m of audio recording, and probabably about 10m of gaming->10% at 12:30 am next day.
No 3g, wifi only when using internet apps, using juice defender ultimate.
I'm using Darky's rom 10.1 . I bought the phone with this rom, and i can't flash a new one cause i can't connect it to my pc in anyway(same on other pc's too)
To the battery : Is this normal? Thx

High battery drain

I am using tha stock ics but the battery gets empty verry fast.
With 1 hour using Facebook With 3G the battery gets from 100 to 60 and less easily.
When I am not using it at night and With 2G it empties 10 easily.
Can anyone explain me where is the problem?
I am putting a pic with using viber and Facebook With 3G

Did you wipe the cach and dalvik??? Worth trying this to see if this resolves the issue but backup your files first.
If not then, back everything up and try and full device restore.
Is that a full stock of LG ics? I think not much you can do about that. Other than trying one of the custom ROMs and getting battery efficient kernels.

Also here I report high battery drain.
Stock ICS ROM, rooted at first, then tried a battery usage data reset with no result.
Factory restore, same.
Wiped caches and dalvik cache (with CW recovery), phone bricked.
Un-bricked and reinstalled ICS stock, with CivZ_StormTrooper_rev3 kernel mod. Now with No Frills CPU & Juicedefender free, less than 10 hours without using phone (just data / h3g mode on).
First item in consumption list, "Android OS".
Any ideas?
Thank you
First. you should think about using an custom ROM based on stock. carburano Rom is Good but also Jishnu Sur´s rom is Awesome.
If you afraid to Root you Phone, it´s as easy a 1 2 3 nowadays just use this awesome Tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
Reason: Many of programms you don´t need are removed my first consumption is WIFI. So even if i have WIFI on all day, my phones is steady till the night.
Second. Reset Battery status in CWM
Third. You using a damn smartphone dont expect s**t that this will hold many days this is no Nokia 3210 BTW if you use it that means u use Battery Facebook BTW is one if the most active Programms i know. There´s "high drain" in Order.

Leaving phone without PIN (white keyboard with PIN request) drain 5% battery in 2 mins.
Battery usage lists

Detail on Android OS says:

Keep awake 12m 36s
I'm not sure if before ICS upgrade the "keep awake" time was so high, but I remember it was more lower than Time On. Just now Android OS is passed to 1st place in consumption list
How can I discover if it's an Android or battery related problem?

Without changing your system you could give "Juice Defender" a try, just look up in Appstore. I have no experience with this app, but it trys to defend your juice
I handled it by using some custom rom (recommending 4.1.2 and not 4.2.1 -> better battery life so far, look up some CM 10 ROM)
in dev forum pengus77 is working on some awesome kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097788) that also raises battery life enormous.
with all that stuff my 2X works very nice since a few days.
BUT: read instructions befor you do anything please!

Battery Life?

Can someone gv me more tips and trick for battery life, ive customize my device at minimum, but its still drain fastly. Still dont know why.. Here what i did.
.brightness lowest
.data, wifi, blutooth, nfc turned off if not used
.extended battery on
.i dont play games.
Cpu spy showing deep sleep well when i didnt touch my device, but android system is showing the highest in battery life. Im abit confius about that. Shouldnt screen is the highest? Hmm.
Sent from my LT25i using xda app-developers app
Here is my ss. Why the hell android system is the higher? Ive used many android device before, seems this is not normal. Deep sleep is going well according to cpu spy.
battery life is really relative
it varies on users to users
it depends on many things:
- brightness display settings, auto vs manual
- apps installed, some are consistently running on the background
- data connection, this is the biggest drainer, depending on your area, you may get strong or weak signal(weak means your phone will tend to consistently trying to look for better connection from the network resulting to more drain in battery)
- etc., etc.
bottomline, don't worry about it too much unless the drain is really really horrible
personally, my TX is horrible in 3G but that is expected
Thank you for replying, may u check my screen shot, i just upload it. and please tell me is this also happen to ur device? normal/not normal?
I once had this problem and solved it by wiping cache and dalvik cache. System isn't supposed to use most resources on the phone
But even with system using that much battery you don't have a bad battery life.
I usually don't end up with 50% battery after 12 hours (usually I'm already drained by then )

My battery life got really bad with 4.4.2

I've been running for about 10 hours now, usually my battery life is around 60-70% at this point, but I installed 4.4.2 yesterday.
I'm sitting at 31% with only 40 minutes of screen on time...
Hopefully we get a 4.4.3 soon to fix this.

same here, after updating to 4.2.1 and even 4.2.2 my battery life is worse. Part of it might be the increased vibration strength and speaker volume. More power is being used for every day tasks such as using buttons.
I've been noticing higher battery numbers for the Google keyboard since the update.
I've killed Google Now as it was destroying my battery after the 4.4.2 update... screen is still the biggest killer of my battery though...
I went back to Nova Launcher immediately... no constantly active Google Now listening.
I've got 52% at 13h 23min on battery.
That's the *only* thing I've done after updating to the 4.4.2 OTA. No root, no mods.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I've got Lux installed for brightness control. Screen's a little dimmer than usual overall because holy COW I don't need it so bright all the time. Screen is still the biggest battery eater.

I noticed more battery drain immediately after installing the first update and it's the same on the most recent one, 4.4 had incredible battery life.
Noticed same thing here. Same usage pattern and same apps as with 4.4 but battery life almost exactly 1/2 what it was. I'm hoping this will improve after a couple of charging cycles.

Root and stay stock or ROM?

I am new to the N6 world and I am not happy with the battery performance getting around 3.5 SOT and max of 12 hrs of overall battery usage. I am so tempted to root, CM12.1 and Franco kernel. But I am hearing bad battery results with CM12.1. I know everyone has different way of usage but if you can share your experience it will be great. I have three pus email accounts one is exchange, twitter, instagram, Google+ (manual sync), screen brightness is 10%, no adaptive brightness, no ambent display, no location, i use Google now, rarely play games, dropbox, Google drive, one drive, turned off all Google sync except for contacts, calendar... etc.

You can squeeze another hour of SOT with a custom ROM and kernel. I usually get 4 to 4.5. Everyone's phone is unique but benzo kernel gives me very good battery life regardless of the ROM it is used with. It is based off hells core kernel which many people agree is among the best.

Good luck!
A custom ROM with settings with by Kernel Adiutor (or Synapse,...) *may* help. There are so many factors, including use (which you've touched on), areas of travel/use (and therefore reception), baseband version,...
Regardless, your willingness and patience to experiment with different kernels (recommend hellscore/benzoCore or blu_spark as starting points) and ROMs are very helpful!
Has anyone tried CM12.1 it seems like a very clean interface?

Try the M3 stock. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The battery is what it is, you can get some improvements however I think most of them exist in how the device deep sleeps. JDX 3.01 (rom) is in the thread. Good luck.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
All custom kernels.can be tweaked for battery life. The choice.of kernel is pretty much irrelevant, unless you can't be bothered to learn the tweaks
Also, ROMs.have very little influence on battery life unless it's bloated and poorly coded. Although in.not saying CM is either of those things, typically cm ROMs have been poorer on battery life than their aosp cousins.

My N6 - stock 5.1.1 - Franco Kernel.
For battery life I am using apps with a black background when possible.
No G-mail but K-9 Mail.
No wallpaper 'No wallpaper app'.
WiFi interval changed to 200 with build.prop editor.
Flashed Black Google Now launcher
(Needs Google.app updates uninstalled).
Disabled not used g-apps.
Disabled not used services.
Actually today I am bit surprised of how well the battery behaved. I got 4 hrs SOT, 3 hrs of talk time, listing to music.
Here is what I did and I believe that pumped up my battery performance.
1. Switched network to 3G.
2. No WiFi.
3. Wiped cache from boot recovery.
I will keep an eye on it but if that's the case then I will just stay stock until M is out.

Yes agree, I noticed that too (switching to 2G).
Probably the 4G network is to weak for indoor use, and maybe bad signal causes more battery.
Hope you don' t mind that I add another point.
4. Restrict app background data of all apps. (Settings - Data usage - < per app setting > )
