galaxy gear special price - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hi guys, I bought a galaxy s4 recently and now "samsung exclusive" offers me a galaxy gear for 150€ (half of the official price at least in italy).
I'm a bit excited with the idea of rooting it and putting Null rom... my simple questions are:
1)my gs4 is rooted too, using SlimBean rom. Do I need some samsung app to deal with the phone?
2)battery life of the phone and battery life of the watch if I leave them connected the whole day?
It's worth to buy it? The price is good?

the price is good, and for the rest it varies. without fomey rom, it's not even worth to think about the watch.
not sure if galaxy s4 works without stock rom, surely some people were able to use it with custom, but there is more hassle with it.

thanks for the reply, I have 4 days to decide... then the offering expires.
My phone has to stay with custom rom, I simply hate touchwiz....
So the question is: galaxy s4 + galaxy gear, both with custom rom... can they work together? How?

There are threads, people can tether the Gear to many Android devices, Read about it yesterday, Search the forum
All that was meet is with stock 4,3 ROM on the support S4 the process is easy, I hate Touchwiz too and I run Nova Launcher and delete bloatware.

the thread about using your GG with any Android phone is right below your post.

Which Phone do i consider if i want to trade my galaxy note off.
I would ideally want a cheaper option or preferably in the same cost bracket. i cant go for s3 or iphone 4s as they would be expensive. what i was planning is getting a galaxy nexus. Is it worth it? is it better than note, if i am looking for change? Please help
Note 2 or Note 3
edit, if you want a phone in same cost bracket go for s2 / galaxy r or ace 2

S2 would be a step backwards.. atleast with google nexus it would be amazing shape and i ll get the latest updates.
GNex. As somebody already said, S2 will be a step backwards, and for that matter even GS3 will be. Yes it has some cool stuff but for lots of us, its still not an upgrade. Go for Nexus or the Nexus 7 tablet and a cheap phone. Why I recommend 7 is because I don't know how you will manage with small screens now, for me it's next to impossible.

If you don't know what phone you want, why are you selling the Note ?
Anyway, how about new Sony Xperia handsets ? They're pretty nice.
Or Galaxy Nexus, this one seems to be perfect.
Or get the Galaxy S2 and Nexus 7 tablet if you don't mind carrying two devices with you. You should be able to get both in Note's price. I know many people consider S2 as "step backwards" but honestly i don't see the difference between S2 and Note in terms of performance...

I was getting slightly bored with my note. i love the device though and i am not hell bent on exchanging it. just wanted to explore options.
As for nexus 7, i dont see myself carrying 2 devices. so i would prefer only a phone. moreover i dont like tabs

After doing my research, i came to a conclusion that i would be stupid to trade my note for anything below S3, HTC one X.
But i really want to try GNexus. the downside is it isnt available here in india, n i'll have to use it without warranty.

Should I buy the S III Mini?

Hi guys,
Asking for your advice, it's new phone time and I have a BlackBerry Curve 9320, the only thing it's got going for it is BBM. I did have a Sony Xperia U but it was slower than even the BlackBerry! I was fond of Android but when it was able to run smooth for short periods on that phone but eventually I couldn't take it anymore and I got a BB. Anyway I had enough of the BlackBerry now as it's had it's fair share of knocks etc. Taking into consideration that BBM is coming to Android and iOS in the coming months and that Android apps can be run on BB OS10 I am in two minds whether to go for a Samsung S3 Mini or a BlackBerry Q5? I like both phones but since the S3 Mini has been around for at least 6 months I am wondering will it be a fast phone with the 1Ghz dual core processer and 1GB of RAM? Any help? What do you guys think of your S3 Mini's?

I would consider the alternatives if I were you.. If you have something like the Galaxy S II or the Galaxy S II Plus at nearly the same price as the S3 Mini, get that. Or wait for the S4 Mini, huge upgrade over the S3 Mini.
Yeah wait for S4 MINI , though quite expensive at nearly £400's.

S4 Mini has Snapdragon processor. So its sources won't be private like ours.
If you ever tried to develop anything you would appreciate time, and hard work that has been put into development. So with all due respect gtfo.

the last time i checked this was a developers forum and not an end users forum
have you actually done any ROM or app development to contribute to these forums?
show some respect to the developers here
clearly you have not done any research into why there is not much development for this phone, otherwise you wouldn't be saying the crap that you are saying
@thejamesrankin
if you had done a search you would have seen some comments on existing threads on what people thought of this phone
it's a great phone if you are happy with stock considering the money that you pay for it
if you want a phone that you can do dev on then i would recommend going for a phone that has a snapdragon processor

I want to ask almost the same question, but I currently have Samsung Galaxy Gio, I want to buy a new mobile phone but with limited money availability, I am considering Galaxy S III Mini, in my country it's around $280, what I want to ask about is:
Is it fast and very stable ?
Can it stand a good number of apps without getting slow ?
Is it really good for it's price ? Or there is better mobile phones with same price ?

Thanks a lot.
Well, I surfed a little in development things since my Gio has a really low internal memory so I searched a lot to get a light ROM for it, but for the S III Mini I won't need a similar thing, will I ?
Coming from LG Optimus Black, I have little to no complaints about S3 mini.
But, I wish I would have bought the LG L7 II over the s3 mini as it's far more cheaper but a little downgrade from s3 mini but overall pretty same specs to me.
I never used all the 1gb ram anyway, 768mb is all I need.
Got the phone 3 days ago guys! LOVE IT! Best phone I have spent money one, it's worth every penny I spent. The build quality comparable only to the Nokia 6300 and Samsung Galaxy Ace I have owned years ago. The screen is lovely, I have never owned a phone with an amoled screen before but I thought they looked pretty when I seen them on other people's phones. Now I can truly appreciate the amoled screen and how it makes blacks look truly black and colours stand out so bright. Obviously for someone who is coming from a Blackberry I think it is a very smooth, fast phone. I have yet to see it lag. I think it eats up the battery a bit too quick though but I think it's my fault and I will do a quick search to see what it brings up in relation to power saving. Now I am on the look out for a theme that resembles the Samsung theme but darker or even pitch black I think it would be cool. Also a way to change the lock sound would be nice to know about?
James.
Very nice device but as from this afternoon I will be an owner of a Samsung I9305 Galaxy S III 16GB mainly due to 4G and my country provider upgrade package.
My son will be very happy to receive the SIII Mini
Thanks to all Devs for their support and ingenuity.

Will the Gear get ROMs? Use with other phones?

I know it's VERY early, but that 30% discount at Tmobile is tempting me. But I don't plan on getting a Note 3 or a S4. Currently I'm very happy with my LG G2, although I am considering swapping out to a Nexus 5 depending on what that ends up being.
Anyway I'm trying to find a use for the Gear without a S4/N3. Is there ANY functionality that would prove useful just running it by itself?
Do you guys anticipate any ROMs released in the future to have it work with other Android phones, or just to add stand alone functionality to it? Or is it a totally closed system and hopeless?
Right now it's an n3 or nothing. Have not heard of any roms really

Right now without a compatible device to pair it to you can't even use it as a watch, as the pairing process is what sets the time etc, and there is no way to bypass the screen instructing you to pair it with your device. After it's paired it will function as a watch, camera and pedometer without being connected to the phone but that's about it. No idea on roms but I have heard Samsung will be releasing an SDK for developers to create apps for it.

The app was updated so it can be installed on an S4 from the Samsung store yesterday I believe. Pretty sure it doesn't support all the functions on the S4 tho until it gets 4.3.

[Q] Is the S5 worth it? I need your opinion!

I have a Tmobile Galaxy Note 3 unlocked which I use with AT&T.
I am debating on trading for an AT&T Galaxy S5 16 GB.
the question is.. is it worth it to do straight up swap for 16gb S5 since my Note 3 has twice the memory and more power.
Please let me know what you guys think!
Most definitely, I had the s3 with latest rom & I have to say this s5 kills it in battery life, speed, smoothness. Plus the camera is phenomenal. This is probably the best phone out currently. Plus we got root, the easiest ever and recovery. I have already debloated and installed V4A, PLUS most all my favorite apps.

If I were given the chance to go back in time and remake my upgrade decision, I wouldn't have gone with the S5. I didn't do my research about the bootloader and knox, which I had no problem with on my S3, and I am now considering trading my sister for her Nexus 5.
If it had unlocked bootloader I still wouldn't go with it. I feel like Samsung is slowly turning into Apple. Giving you outdated tech and saying it's new. Why didn't they put a better processor in the phone? Why didn't they put 3GB of ram in the phone. Why only 16GB of internal space? Why so when and if they push the Galaxy S5 prime/ Galaxy F they can give you what they should of in the first place? I'm on a rooted LG G3 and I love it. Glad I picked this phone.

I seriously doubt you'll actually need 3gb of ram. I understand that samsung decision to not include it when the tech is there is stupid but nonetheless, anything above the current flagship standard is frivolous (unless we suddenly reach the next generation of mobile apps and gaming). That being said, just the water resistance and battery alone is totally worth an upgrade. I've never had a phone that even comes close to the s5's battery and I've had them all from older galaxies to blackberries to iphones

Looking at the specs on Phonescoop, the note has a bigger screen and more memory, a little slower processor, not as good a camera. If camera is super important to you, you might want to switch. I'd guess the processor speed difference isn't noticeable to most. Think about it in depth before you switch. Also although the camera is better, there is still not more than 4x zoom. I love my s5 but this sounds like a really close call for you.

I had the note 3 and sold it.went back to the s4 for a bit and now the s5. I think you shouldn't have any regrets after switching. Phone is tough http://bgr.com/2014/04/02/galaxy-s5-drop-test-video/
I would go with the S 5 Active or the HTC (M8). At least with the M8 you can unlock your bootloader and get root.
All we have for the S 5 is root and safestrap (Which is awesome) Thats all you should have for the Note 3 right?
Dont get me wrong, you will be happy with the S 5 but a lot of people are extremely happy with the HTC M8.
HTC actually had an 30% sales increase since this phone and business is looking good for them!!!
Samsung is going the wrong way in my mind. They want more corporate peeps.....
PS: I had the Note 3 before this S 5 and I like the S 5 better.

S5 still remains the best phone

Report: Samsung Galaxy S5 Remains Most Popular Samsung Device in USA as of February 2017
https://www.xda-developers.com/repo...ar-samsung-device-in-usa-as-of-february-2017/
I agree, but Samsung slaped in the face every S5 user there is with their update policy.... we didnt get anything with 6.0.1 only icons..... since they upgraded S6s and S7s to Noughat and gave em all new software they could have atleast updated S5 software to S6s or S7s.... but we didnt get anything S5 software is the same as in 5.0 (and something even from KitKat)..... thats rly not fair
I see why the S5 would be so widely used. It's the last of Samsung's devices that features a removable back and expandability, water and dust resistance, an IR blaster, the HRM, a fingerprint scanner, a 1080p panel, microUSB 3.0, and optional wireless charging all in one package. It's a shame the Plus variant with an 805, 3GB of RAM and a QHD display was not the standard, but the main phone is still pretty good.
The only thing that irks me from this device is the OEM software situation. Samsung surely gave us the middle finger when the 5.0 update was launched and we got a nerfed version of the new MD TouchWiz that wasn't even close to all the changes in newer devices (heck, even the crippled S5 neo got the new TouchWiz) and on 6.0 just getting new icons (which weren't even the new ones for the other MM devices!) but not seeing anything else is insulting.
Thankfully, we're on XDA and on this place we do what OEMs are too lazy to even care about. I thank all the developers that have worked to make this one of the most supported Android devices right now. Long live the S5, long live XDA!
Amazing support from developers, removable battery, IR blaster, NFC, waterproof. What more could anyone ask for?
One gripe with the device is the build quality (maybe the fingerprint sensor, but I don't use it much anyway). Certainly doesn't feel "premium"...
I just got my wife's hand me down S5. I am uneasy about the S5 custom roms. I am on Boost mobile. I came from the S4 with Wicked X. Can anyone offer suggestions for a custom ROM? I am currently on rooted stock.
Until Samsung wake up and add back all of the S5's features to the S9 or something this will be the best samsung phone forever. I love my black beauty because of its useful capabilities like IR, NFC, Removable battery, Micro SD card slot, water and dust resistant, full hd display, exclusive touch wiz features and what not. The only thing that made me sad was the lack of a FM chip for listening to radio.
And to those who say 6.0.1 is only "new icons", sorry but you're wrong. Android 6.0.1 brought us a lot of major goodies under the hood like the amazing Doze as well as other battery saving and performance improving additions. Before, on kitkat, i always had around 200mb free ram which wasn't enough in some cases. After the update to 6.0.1 i have 500mb free ram 80% of the time and it never drops below 300mb free now. This significantly improves battery as well as performance.
So we should be thankful that Samsung gave us this amazing opportunity to renew our phone.
PS: kitkat didn't have support for 4G although the hardware supported it so we couldn't use it.
I don't talk about android 5.0 as that was a disaster.

And if you are the one looking for simple stock but fast rom then go for xxx no limits or alliance rom.

there r many roms from s7 port. I guess every variant availabel. search in s5 rom section (exynos or snapdragon).
There just isn't much out there that competes with the S5 for customization potential. My phone runs Lineage 14.1 and is encrypted and runs really smooth and battery lasts a decent amount of time. My whole family uses the S5. Yes, the phone sounds dated but it's not. I like being able to swap batteries when it's dead and be at full charge in minutes.
I agree, with the S6 Samsung turned to the wrong direction. And now this "edged" S8 - uuuarghhh... XP
I'm still using a S5 G900F for private and a Note 4 for office use. Plus I just bought another refurbished S5 before its too late to get a "new" one again.

If you can get it cheap, go for it. The development community is awesome and receives regular (and official) support for popular ROMs including lineageOS and Resurrection Remix which is usually not found in newer budget phones today.
I'd choose a phone for custom ROM availability, and not just purely on updated specs.
Look at my signature, that phone's a beast. Nothing is better than it, the S7 was close to perfect and ofcourse it didn't have an IR blaster nor a removable battery so that threw it off the table... If you can get an S5 - get it! The only better phone out is the Note 4 but they're kind of similar
I have a S5 Neo. It is also similar good for me. I take this instead of the normal S5, cause it is waterproof without a cover over usb.
